I tore my bicep completely off. Not a partial tear. It rolled up to my shoulder. I didn't attempt to lift anything remotely heavy for around 5 months. The first pull up I did put fear into me. I thought it would rip off again. The way the surgeon explained it to me since he operated when the rupture was fresh the tendon would grow back into the bone in time. He secured it in place with metal anchors to the spot it was torn off. He said every week delayed in the repair results in the odds of success going down. I still foolishly deadlift with an alternate grip. I should be doing double over hand with a hook grip but that hurts by thumbs terrible.
Just put your thumbs across the top of the bar, kinda like most people put them under when benching and use wrist straps. They're very inexpensive. Problem solved.
Mine tore off of the forearm completely as well. I guess my "luck" in my tear was that I wasn't lifting weights. I heard it pop, and I felt it disconnect from the forearm. I don't know about when you did yours, but I remember driving home and thinking how I imagined it hurting much more and the sound being louder than what it was. I could see it just sagging down when I put my hand on the steering wheel.
Anyway, mine only moved up about 2-3 fingers width, and since I knew what happened I called the Ortho to see if they could get me in right away. The best they could do was 8 am the next morning. Although it didn't hurt when it happened, it did start to hurt as the night wore on and I was fucking pissed... so I threw back quite a few shots that night. I went in the next morning, and he looked at it and tried moving my arm which made me jump and want to punch him. He said it was torn, but made me do x-ray or else insurance wouldn't ok the MRI. X-ray confirmed. MRI was scheduled for 1 that day, and I was having surgery by 10 or 11 the next morning....that day is a bit of a blur as it was likely for you too. I had to have another surgery, because of a bone obstruction that grew where they drilled, so I was in and out of PT for a year. Was terrified to go back to the gym for almost 2 yeas after that. Got sick of feeling and lookin like shit so I'm on the comeback trail since November.
I've only tried deads once so far. Did a whopping 115 for 15. I'm such a beast!
How long did it take doing deads to feel like your old self, and go fairly heavy? Assuming that happened?
