Actor Andy Griffith died on Tuesday morning in Dare County, North Carolina, reports WITN.com.
Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie confirmed to the website that an ambulance went to the 86-year-old's home at 7 a.m. this morning.
Griffith's good friend and former President of the University of North Carolina, Bill Friday, told WITN that the actor had passed away. The AP and CNN also confirmed the news. Details surrounding the actor's cause of death have not been released at this time.
Griffith was best known for his role as Sheriff Andy Taylor in “The Andy Griffith Show,” which ran from 1960 to 1968, and later known for his role as a criminal defense lawyer on "Matlock," which ran from 1986 to 1995. The actor was honored with the the TV Land Legend Award in 2004, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2005. Griffith was also a singer and musician, and his 1996 album "I Love to Tell the Story: 25 Timeless Hymns" went platinum.

Agree about the color episodes. I can think of 3 or 4 of them worth watching (mostly the ones where Don Knotts came back as a guest). Really the only decent non-Barney color episode I can recall is "Eat Your Heart Out"

She had a massive penoris, according to Gomer.
Actually, that actress also played in the episode where the three female prisoners (in prison-issued pumps) had Barney and Floyd hostage at O'Malley's place. In that episode, she was "Naomi," a convicted husband-beater.

Holy shit that is scary, someone that knows as much if not more about the Andy Griffith Show than myself. I travel a lot for work and I take the series DVD's on the plane and watch them. The flight attendants always go by and laugh. I don't quite look the type to watch Andy Griffith I guess.

My favorite episode is that one where the old lady buys all that meat and the freezer goes out!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

LOL. I like you.
My grandfather met Mr. Griffith in the late 60s or early 70s in a swanky hotel's restaurant. Andy was alone and eating breakfast. Gramps walked up to him and said he just wanted to thank him for his great work on television. Andy stood up, shook his hand, thanked him in turn and asked Gramps to join him for a bite. He didn't, but I think that speaks to what a down-to-earth guy he was.
I was a little sad he became so liberal in his later years, but I can't say I blame him. My mentor, the late, great Dr. Mike Eldridge, was as liberal as they come. He was also as good a man as I've ever known.

It's funny you mention your grandfather having met Andy.
My granddad, still alive and kicking at 90, has this irrational yet burning hatred of Andy Griffith. Whenever he sees him on tv, he shouts, "That is the meanest god damn man that ever lived!!!"
Once I asked him why he hated Andy so much. The reason is that some old fool that my granddad drinks beer with swears that Andy Griffith cheated him on some business deal fifty years ago.
This same guy also swears that Elvis Presley stole one of his guitars. ::)

no, wes used to babysit him if im not mistaken
You're both wrong.
Wes was Andy's first Little League coach.

Aunt Bea disliked Andy Griffith in real life. So I always thought she was a bitch for that and cheered when she died. I always read Andy was a kind person.

Francis Bavier was a royal bitch, and she died in filth (she was a hoarder as well as a Crazy Cat Lady). I've heard a lot of things, good and bad, about Andy. I'm sure some of each is true. He was probably capable of great acts of kindness and service, and at the same time capable of almost unspeakable pettiness and cruelty.

Yes, but when you pursued her, you were on the verge of committing statutory rape.

Unfortunately, half of them were already dead before she croaked.

Got a decent pork chop sammich as well. Andy Griffin was buried 2 hours later after he had passed away on his farm. In North Carolina, its not a requirement to be embalmed.
I'm sure he and Don Knotts are catching up on thing.... :'(
