You know at the end of the day it all comes down to marketing and promoting the sport.Dont keep riding the reigning MR OLYMPIA at that time for NOT promoting the sport.Yes he does have an integral part to play in *superficially* promoting the sport i.e in making appearences, trying to garner the crossover appeal(that is achieved if said champion has the charisma and social aptness) and so forth
But heres my point IFBB, DONT leave it to the MR O to do everything. The people behind the scenes and in charge of the IFBB have all the power to make decision. And decisions and actions have got to be made to expand the sport in terms of media coverage.
Why doesnt the IFBB try getting some television exposure? Two things problems with that :
1) Yes i know i may be ignorant of current IFBB efforts, but so what? TRY HARDER and get it done Hook or crook.Promote the sport
2) I can understand that one may argue that the IFBB doesnt have that mainstream appeal and these physiques may not be well liked by the general public and then theres steroids and whatever.Uhm excuse me i look just over the shoulder of BB and i see wrestling and i can be absolutely amazed at what vince mchmahon has done with it.Hello this is something in which ppl cry `fake` over all the time and feel as though it insults their intelligence, how much more of a side freakshow is wrestling? YET you can go into almost any country and find a WWE show on TV- and wrestling is raking in the millions and million. What?? you mean a freak show like THAT can do it? It shruggs off that negative media and turns around and with such effort that you can see celebs that are fans 0of the shows. Then what is it with the IFBB?Im sorry , but as pessimistic as anyone want s to be, with the right efforts, even if you can improve BB slightly
(10% say) , well thats still an impprovement
Why cant I, and avid BB fan from across the globe, not watch an Arnold Classic Event ever? Why *INTERNATIONAL* Federation of BB? I dont know how it works in the US, whther yourll can watch the Contests , like Ironman and ASC or whatevr.Hello , BB`g is a VISUAL sport, it needs to be seen.Im tired of looking at pictures id love to see the show
-
it is not a "sport." it is a drug monster, chemical freak show!!! it is chemical guerilla warfare. it will never be accepted, period. period, period, period.

So then what should they do? Anybody can give their suggestions/input.Heres some of mine:
I dunno if anyone would like the idea of a Bodybuilding Monthly/Weekly Tv show.Something like this is seriously lacking, and shocking that it hasnt happened.Let ppl follow their sport man.Give training insights , nutrition advice, news topics, follow the career of a young upcoming BBer, follow results of show and give commmentary. Why is this so hard? Isnt a thing like this PROMOTING the sport? Damn straight
And further based on that, get this type of show to INTERNATIONAL markets.Create a following.Show the contests internationally, the Olympia, ASC, GP`s etc.I mean we get NOTHING right now
Promote the sport. How many affiliates does IFBB have? how many countries do they have under its banner?
I was so shocked when Dan Solomon THANKED Kevin Horton for taking *pictures* of the GP`s.I mean no disrespect to that statement or to Horton , in fact theres nothing wrong with that statement, but it indicates just how much the IFBB is currently doin to cover their own shows, that its as if someone did a FAVOUR to take pics of an event.I think it needs to get a bit more proffesional than that

great idea, call it,"the human pin cushion." c'mon, the type of extreme nutrition espoused by competitive bbers is so far out of the average piece of shit person's grasp it's ridiculous! joe 'q' public is threatened by these physiques, because they(bodybuilders) show him what a slobby piece of shit he is. and are you going to show the drugs? nobody would want to see nattys anyway.
bro'- it's a fringe, freak, perverted display of ego/narcism/bulking/ocd/ running amok- and i love it that way!

Ahem but excuse me, you will have your NICHE market whereever you go.ATLEAST that should be well taken care off.IFBB has how many countries right now in its org? That alone proves that its worldwide and has its markets man.You can compare every aspect here to wrestling (sorry for that constant comparison, but its true and directly comparable) If somene in in South Africa doesnt like wretsling they would turn it off, but the ones who are fans are gonna watch. So atleast take care of your audience and dont alienat them
I heard some post on here that its such a MISSION to searach and FINS results of a certain GP or something.WHy should that be? Bottom line is that the proffesionalism needs to improve alll around in the IFBB in every facet
-
Its too simple to make this marketable and enjoyable, but they are clueless.
-
The IFBB has had a worldwide newsstand presence for the better part of three decades and you'll be hard-pressed to find a dozen people outside your circle of bodybuilding friends who even know what "IFBB" stands for. Of the millions of people watching Kim Lyons on NBC's "Biggest Loser" each week, how many know that she's a former IFBB "pro"?
The opportunities have been there, but the decision-makers on the publishing side of the house have chosen not to exploit them.
-

Dude , look after your core market atleast , that means you and me are included in there.Do something that would satisfy US.Definitely there are limits to the appeal of Pro BB and its mainstream acceptance, but thats something for down the line.Charity starts at home, look after you current audience that you have here , and are reading these boards and posting here.If youre telling me that you wouldnt appreciate watching some sorta weekly or monthly Bodybuilding sho, then wow.Cos when i heard they were doing a Radio show, then i was thoroughly happy and i listen every week and i thought `wow its about time`
-
And another thing im going to say thats going to be unpopular i know, but i will say it
You see arnold, he was BB`s greatest, 1 off.Thats because he took the sport into the limelight.Who has there been since that has had that crossover appeal? And ill tell you what , the IFBB does have someone in their mdst that has that capabilty right now and that is Gunter
I know that his physique isnt well liked by many, but so what..He`s got mainstream appeal, but how can i judge that? he IS verry sociable and a great personality.Compare that to some guys who just dont wanna speak up , how are they going to represent the sport. You dont have to make him MR O , but use him in the right way and watch
I know this will probly get bashed , but whatever.Think objectively and you know its true

i listen to the radio show, and it's archives, and i'm to tally unimpressed. that's coming from me. do you honestly think outsiders give a shit? hell no! they think it's stupid!
see, for most regular people, if they can't see a "reason" for the size, it doesn't compute for them. to the average piece of shit, if you aren't a doorman/bouncer, or a football player, than why do you have the muscles? they are still in their larval dormant stage, and it will NEVER change.
bro'- it's so much lies and hypocracy(sic?) no one talks about the drugs/amounts, and they lead people to believe that m-tech and other bull cum residue like that will actually help them grow!
a few years back there was american muscle, but that was just a show catering to up and coming bodybuilders and the (closet ) or open gay muscle worshippers. i do not mean that offensively, either. bro'- it's a gay fringe freak thing, just let it be and enjoy what you can

um, bob chick gets way more work than gunter. what's so appealing about gunter anyway?

Like i said , thats fine, and i acknowledge those limits. So leave the `other` ppl out for now.Start concentrating on yourself for a second. And think if *YOU`* as a BB fan has been appropriately catered to.THATS my argument.Start worrying about and cater to the fans more adequately.Clearly you are unhappy and unconvinced by efforts as they are right now.You say the PBW is crappy, well atleast its an improvement, and i enjoy it
-
the key to anything is education. as far as bodybuilding is concerned, as long as it's covered in lies and chicanery by these erstwhile "muscle"scallawags, then no one learns. for instance- what if all bbs with serious or even minor health issues that were definitely the result of aas, talked about it openly.
wouldn't that be informitive to know that if you exceed 6-7 gms/week, that the liver will, in fact, splatter, and the liver will quiver?
instead, nobody says shit, and instead blames it on falling off their pogo stick or some shit, you know?
until there's integrity, there'll be nothing.
now, that would be cool! what if for the bigger people, like hvywt or super hvywt., they made pogo sticks but with dual gas pressurized off road shocks! that would be cool!
-
Okay im going to say lets leave the arguments of mainstream appeal alone now and focus just on the fans.Fa interest
When PBW weekly popped up, it was a definite step in the right direction. It gave the athletes more exposure and gave the fans more insight, something that was never there previously. It promoted the sport of BB`g , yes it did, it gave the athletes some exposure and promoted the show , set uo fan interest , all those things.MD even started to do something and embraced the web , they improved their site and started their own show too.Now im saying a logical extension after radio would be TV.To do a show keeping fans intune and abreast of current developments and whatevr
Whichever way you wanna slice the ifbb has to man up , because they have fans all over the world.SO they still have yet to reach into those markets and do something.Step yo game up
-
Bottom line:
A weekly show promoting the sport with a little bit of nutrition and training info, some news within the IFBB, spotlighting an up and comer or current pro, and highlighting a show, would all be good and many bodybuilding enthusiasts and fans would tune in. But no one in the industry wants to ante up any money for that. It's a monopolistic industry thanks to the people who created it. They are all banking right now off of doing nothing. In that aspect, the companies surrounding it have become lazy.
-
but it'll still be selling lies and snake oil!

Your got the point.Thats why , if this is realised by the pro`s , one of whom is the IFBB rep.Things can happen.Dan Solomon came up with PBW and put it into play.Bob Chic has some stroke with the Ifbb.Shawn put on his own show.Sponsors read these boards. If anything just clicks for them and they decide that it is DEFINITELY in the fans best interest, it can happen.I think the IFBB is verry divided and individualistic
Its shocking cos their sooo much room for improvement and such potential to achieve it

MD allready tried the natural route it didnt work ...

Dormant, larval?
For the average man there are no justifiable reasons to look anywhere near a BB. It's the other way around, a lot of BB need to have big muscles to feel good about themselves...who's the silly git now...
A drop dead boring lifestyle of eating, sleeping, training, shooting gear, that's going to captivate jack-all. As long as BB is about freakiness there will be no mainstream appeal. When it gets back to more mainstream symmetric-balance there vwill be a bit more media interest.
And look at it this way, what does 'the sport' of BB have to offer when televised? it's still a line-up of big oiled up men. Wrestling has it's over the top action and acrobatics, 2 different entities.

I live in sOuth Africa right. And being a fan of this sport, why will i never get to watch the Arnold Classic or Olympia on my TV? Why with sooo many countries affiliated with the IFBB cant they get each country`s centre to at least promote the sport in that country.Throw the fans a bone man.Its is soo hard for us to follow the sport. We wanna see some events , watch some shows, you know - follow the sport
Dont make the argument that BB`g is too underground for acceptance.Bob said it on PBW , there are `Rock ,paper scissor championships` on TV , and you wanna tell me that Bodybuilding cant match even that ? Then its no wonder or sport is soo financial unstable and inadequate. And im almost certain that when bob chic mentioned on PBW that even the `rock/paper/scissors` was on TV , he meant it in disgust because why cant they put BB`g on TV
Fine if ESPN doesnt want to pick up a BB`g event in the U.S , but what about the rest of the world.Did any1 try to make a TV deal elsewhere to air BB`g events?
So its a bit sad on the IFBB`s part that they cant even promote the sport well within its own community. And if they cant do that , no chance of ever garnering a positive mainstream view of Bb`g

Monster display of the TRUTH-IN-YOUR-FACE !!!!!!!!! :o
This is one of the best condensed version of the reality of our sport. I highly doubt anybody could ever put it in better words than these......

Yes - Kim replaced the popular Jillian Michaels on the show and has begun developing her own identity pretty quickly.

HAHAAHAHAH!!! Ok "Rampage".

Dude , you need to stop that argument now.We not going down that road anymore.Forget mainstream for now, thats a topic we will talk about when the IFBB hits right with its current fans first
Talk about what it can do for *you* (a fan of BB)right now to increase fan interest and appease us.
Like i said the last straw is when you hear things like what happened with the webcast , and also things like `Gee i had to search the net for a while just to find results and pictures for a certain show`.I am saying the IFBB needs to promote BB`g in its own community properly first
Do you understand what i-AM-SAYING
???

What is with this obsession to bring bodybuilding mainstream? It will never happen. Like some else said, watching bodybuilders compete isn't something that appeals to the masses. I'm sure most people who go to the gym know that the "sport" of bodybuilding exists, they just don't give a damn. And mr.O, like any other contest, should be about who is the best bodybuilder, not who is "best" for the sport. Its not a personality contest.

#1 at the Olympia should be required to do ten media appearances for charitable organizations.
#2 at the O shuold have to do 9 media appearances.
Etc etc through the top 10. Even if it's only local news, it's Bbers giving back to the community. Lift weights with special olympics kids. Help train a wounded soldier recovering from war injuries. Give out BSN protein bars to homeless people even!
Bbers have to be seen as giving back. During last night's mon night football game, I heard that 20/21-year old Carmelo Anthony was rebuilding a rec center in baltimore. I know BBers don't have the cash to do that kind of thing, but they certainly have the time. If Cutler can fly to 35 guest posings a year to hock MoneyTech's products, he can travel to a LV medical center or homeless shelter ten times a year. Give back and the public perception of Bbers as selfish, vain drug abusers might subside.

Tru dat`.Respek
But ppl are always gonna feed us an everyready supply of why BB`g is gonna fail and will never be accepted.Im sorry , but they ARE wong.Pumping iron back decades ago showed how BB`gs impression was improved by just arnold.Okay but we wont get into the mainstream thang now, lets forget about that now , the topic is too vast
Im talking about current developments WITHIN the Bb`g community.Listen the athletes didnt even get paid out of the top 10 before , ppl fought for that to happen. The wasnt even an athletes rep before , and look @ the things bob can get done now.Things can change.what a breath of fresh air with the radio show was for fans
IFBB needs to step up - promote
