I'v never been there, but have some business interest's there. So i will be heading to Dubai soon. I did not know much about the city, but im shocked to see how much more advanced it is then New York and LA.. How is it that a city in UAE, can put NYC and LA to shame :-\. I wonder if Trump is buying any commerical real estate over there? If i were him i would be!!

Dubai is in fact part of the United Arab Emirates.
Matt you have " business interest's " in an area that not only have you not visited, but don't know where it is? Or do you mean that you are looking at business opportunities there? Years ago, I worked for a hotel chain that had built a property there and I was one of the trainers sent over for 6 weeks to get the staff in place to open the doors.
It's foolish to suggest that Dubai is more advanced then NY or LA . . . The architecture is progressive and very unique, but that is where it stops.

Hey Only, got a friend over there doing some architecting (there's a secure job for the next few years!) and he say they are creating a huge map of the world out of islands in the lagoon -ie. each island is a country and seen from (high) overhead it looks like the globe. Far out! (also too much money and too little brains, but I digress...) :o

Don't know what kind of business you are interested over there but I was a U.S. contractor (EOD consultant)in Dubai and in Doha, Qatar...... unless you are a multimillionaire, I do not see you really making any money worth the time and effort over there....if I had to choose I would go Dubai it's more libreal and they are ok with westerners and have many European contractors who live there. Also be ready for extreme heat w/ humidity, there is no US city that comes close to how hot/humid it gets there...I had permanent ass juice flowing right when you walk out of building w/ AC....it's something you never get used to :-\

I've been to Dubai.
Stayed in the mina-a-salam which is regarded as the finest hotel in Dubai.
The Burj -Al Arab is the 7* hotel which faces it. The reason it has a seventh star is that it has it's own road direct from the airport.
The is another 7* hotel is neighbouring Abu Dhabi (the emirates palace).
I went in the Burj and it was full of idiots - 70yr old women in Channel track suits and far too much suntan (vulgar basically).
The place is bling - even the airport had Bentley's for sale and gold bullion bar shops.
Nov to April is the best time to go, any other time is absolutely roasting and unbearable.

KOLKATA (Reuters) - Activists in Kolkata battling to curb HIV/ AIDS infections in one of Asia's biggest red light districts have recruited an unusual group of people to help fight the deadly virus -- the customers of prostitutes.
Kolkata's notorious red light area, Sonagachhi, is home to about 10,000 prostitutes, who live in brothels lining the narrow lanes in the north of the city, catering for the needs of more than 25,000 clients every day.
While most customers are either unaware of AIDS or not interested in safe sex, anti-AIDS activists say they have enlisted almost 200 regular clients to Sonagachhi to teach fellow visitors about using condoms and having frequent blood tests.
"We spend so much time in Sonagachhi that we thought that it was also our duty to protect these girls from AIDS," said Deepak Bhattacharya, a businessman and frequent visitor to brothels.
"There are also thousands of men who come to Sonagachhi and refuse to wear a condom," said Bhattacharya. "And that is where we step in."
India has the world's highest national HIV/AIDS caseload with 5.7 million infected people.
Although the country reported its first case over 20 years ago, many sufferers still face acute stigma fuelled by a lack of awareness and misconceptions about the disease.
Every evening, Bhattacharya and his other colleagues scout the brothels for fellow customers and sex workers, talk to them about safe sex practices and encourage them to get involved in the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in the area.
Bhattacharya says while some clients are not interested to be counselled on HIV/AIDS prevention -- particularly in such personal circumstances -- there are some men who are more open and even take away leaflets.
The project run by Darbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC) -- an umbrella group representing around 65,000 sex workers -- took off at the beginning of 2006 and has so far counselled around 5,000 clients and prostitutes.
"About 80 percent of clients and sex workers counselled now use condoms," said Bharati Dey, DMSC's project director and a former prostitute.
But activists say there is still a lot of work to do and estimate that about 90 percent of the men who visit Sonagachhi do not know that AIDS can be contracted through sexual intercourse.
The World Health Organisation says infection rates amongst Sonagachhi's prostitutes have dropped to five percent from 90 percent over the last decade thanks to community-based HIV/AIDS prevention projects. But the infection rate could go up if clients do not take the same precautions.
"This move is working very well and is the need of the hour as AIDS has definitely increased in India," said Prabhakar Chatterjee, a senior WHO representative.
