Never.  But now I will.

Looks like too much fun.  I don`t think most people here have photoshop/Creative suite as it is around 1699 dollars and then another 1700 for the rest.

I am learning how to use it.  Good stuff.

Not at all.  I actually got a deal.  My computer came with it all.  I also got dual 8800 Geforce cards in SLI mode.  AMD Dual Core processors, liquid cooling, 1 terrabyte of Disk Space.  Sony Blu-Ray Drive.  Plus many other things.

Splinter Cell looks like a dream on it.

Damn thing is over 7 times more powerful than the new PS3.

Oh I see - in that case it looks like you got a pretty good deal - I'm still running a geforce 6200 card with Intel Pentium 4 - I'm going to upgrade sometime in the middle of next year so I can get a core 2 duo processor and 8800 graphics. I'll wait til Vista comes out as well.  :)

Get an SLI capable motherboard so you can run to Geforce cards at once.  Makes a HUGE difference.

Not hard to come by...had this the day it was released...and didn't pay a dime. Plus I have around 50 plug-ins for it. Trust me, after this, there is no editing software left worth getting.

Two points, Intel Core 2 Duo's are the class of the dual core processors right now, the AMD is a distant second. And those Blu-Ray computer drives are around $1,000 a pop and up until just recently there was no software available that could play Blu-Ray disks on a computer. I hope your computer came with WinDVD BD or you won't be watching any Blu-Ray movies.

Also, I hope you bought a high end LCD to go along with all that graphics power.

You are wrong.  AMD are the top in most gamers opinion.  Clearly a step ahead for what I want to use this computer for.  I bought an HD LCD and will soon be moving this computer to a 40 inch LCD.

I already have Blu-Ray discs and a few movies.  Blu-Ray will take over soon as most major companies and movie studios have signed on.

I also have 2 other drives as well with DVD burning.  So no problem there.

AMD though, clearly outperforms Intel`s new chip.  I have had both.

I would say you're wrong on this point. We switched to AMD Opteron proc's because the Duo's couldn't beat them in bench mark testing. Woodcrest might change all that but right now Intel is getting slaughtered.

Show me benchmarks using the equivalent CPU's where the AMD wins. Intel Core 2 Duo owns.

Blu ray is a dead horse. What was the last Sony backed media format that was a success? Microsoft has its full weight behind HD-DVD.

How much RAM does this machine have? 16Gb?

All sounds like mindless gloating to me.

Put the crack pipe down. Almost all the hardware sites agree that AMD's Quad FX platform is a waste of money. The Core 2 Duo series is by far the best choice for gamers.

Oh, and thanks for letting us know that all the major companies support Blu-Ray. You might have heard of two little companies named "Microsoft" and "Intel". They both support the HD-DVD format.

Nope, I'm right. The Intel Core 2 Duo is the king of the hill, AMD has nothing close right now. I can post link after link after link showing tests of the Core 2 Duo kicking AMD Dual Core's ass but you won't click on them and neither will anyone else.

And don't be crazy, the fight between Blu-Ray and HD DVD isn't even close to being over. They both have their strong points and their weak points. The deciding factor might be that HD DVD's cost a little less and have two hugely powerful backers in Microsoft and Intel. It's still a fight either one could win so who knows right now.

You didn't mention if you have WinDVD BD or not, without it that Blu-Ray drives are just for burning. And I hope you bought a lot of high speed RAM.

Also, you could have built that system with everything you want in it and saved about $1,000.

And after getting ripped off spending all that money on a system right before Vista drops I hope you got a free upgrade coupon or download to Vista Ultimate from the computer builder.

Dual-core desktop CPU bout: AMD vs. Intel
By Rich Brown, CNET.com on 07 December 2005

The winner is...

It wasn't even close.

After reading the round-by-round account of our dual-core desktop CPU prizefight, it should come as no shock that AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips are the runaway victors here, laying out the Intel Pentium D and Pentium Extreme Edition 840 chips pins up. If we had to call out one chip, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is an outstanding bargain given the competition, but as our results show, any AMD dual-core CPU will serve you better than its similarly priced Intel equivalent. If you're wondering why there's such a striking performance difference between the two companies' processors, it likely has something to do with the memory controller. Among the technological differences between the two, AMD's memory controller -- the component that sends information back and forth between your system's CPU and the memory -- is an integrated part of the Athlon 64 X2's chip architecture. Intel's memory controller, however, exists as a separate piece of silicon on the motherboard. The additional distance between the CPU and the memory controller adds to the processing lag time and likely plays a part in Intel's lower scores.

Whatever Intel's strategy, it doesn't seem to have held up. We're very interested to see what happens when the next generation of chips and chipsets start hitting the market in early 2006. But until then, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 should be your dual-core processor of choice.

Hey Prof. Hawking, I said the Intel Core 2 Duo chip. Now you're going to make me post all those links. What a tool. That test you posted is from a year ago, LOL. You're such a clown.

The E6700 isn't even the top end E6800 Extreme part, and it's taking on and beating the FX-62 in all gaming and multimedia tests by at least a 13% margin and often as high as 20-30%.

After years of wandering in the wilderness, Intel has recaptured the desktop CPU performance title in dramatic fashion. Both the Core 2 Extreme X6800 and the Core 2 Duo E6700 easily outperform the Athlon 64 FX-62 across a range of applications—and the E6600 is right in the hunt, as well. Not only that, but the Core 2 processors showed no real weaknesses in our performance tests. (I would say that Core looks like a more balanced architecture than Netburst, but at this stage of the game, Netburst just seems slow almost across the board.) No matter what you're hoping to do with your PC, a Core 2 processor should be a very solid choice.

If you paid over three grand for Adobe CS2 you got taken for a ride.

Apple sucks.

I have a G5 as well and now its collecting dust.

Picking a Winner
If one format wins, a number of experts predict it will be Blu-ray due to its higher number of manufacturing and content partners.

Forrester Research analyst Ted Schadler said in a research note on October 5, 2006, that Blu-ray will win out because it has more support, with over 100 manufacturers compared to HD DVD's 10. According to Schadler, Dell, Apple and Sony will ship PCs with Blu-ray drives. HD DVD has Toshiba in the PC fold. "This deeper support will translate into a broader assortment of products, more retail shelf space and a bigger marketing budget," he said, adding that the Playstation 3 will also make inroads for Blu-ray.
These groups have huge corporate egos and major financial issues at stake and at least for now, it appears that this dual battle will go on for some time.
--Tim Bajarin, analyst,
Creative StrategiesHowever, content is also important. Schadler predicts that Blu-ray will eventually have more movie titles due to its broader support from the studios. "Content is key. The new formats are (for now) read only. This makes content even more important than in Betamax vs. VHS," says Dreze.

"At least with Betamax you could record sitcoms (off your TV.) Here, all you can do is play pre-recorded content. If there is none (available), there is no benefit from buying the player."

Tim Bajarin, principal analyst for Creative Strategies, agrees that the content selection coupled with the Playstation 3 and manufacturing partners favor Blu-ray. "With the studios backing (Blu-ray) and the potential for millions of Playstations eventually getting into consumers' homes, there is a possibility that it could end up with the larger share of this market," says Bajarin.

Not everyone is in the Blu-ray camp, however. Werbach questions whether either side will win. It's unclear, he says, why consumers will want a physical disc when they will have digital distribution for high-definition movies through either Microsoft's Xbox or cable operators who have invested in video on demand. In addition, Werbach says that as storage densities increase, PCs or digital video recorders could bundle dozens of movies on hard drives with automatic downloads for more titles. "The next-generation DVD players had a window of opportunity if they could have delivered a single standard at reasonable cost, but I suspect they have missed it," says Werbach. "I personally have no plans to plug in yet another box next to the TiVo, cable set top box, VCR, DVD player, CD player and Xbox in my den."

Protracted War
With the exception of Dreze, who predicts that a clear winner will emerge in six months to a year, most experts expect a long battle between HD DVD and Blu-ray. "These groups have huge corporate egos and major financial issues at stake and at least for now, it appears that this dual battle will go on for some time," says Bajarin.

The one wild card is a high-definition DVD player or discs that feature both formats. According to Bajarin, such a player would ease consumer fears and spur some demand. However, Bajarin notes that a multi-format player is "by no means the optimal way to approach this problem. The ideal solution is for the two groups to come together, like they did with the CD formats, and create a single player/recording format or platform that meets the needs of all consumers."

But cooperation between the two parties underestimates the corporate needs of Sony and Microsoft. The goal for each: Relegate the other's format to Betamax-like obscurity. "I suspect it will be a while before either of the two high-definition DVD formats folds up shop, as Betamax did," says Werbach. "Sony will probably be the last to give up, because it will ship millions of Blu-ray drives in the next few years with the Playstation 3. But it will be something of a Pyrrhic victory."

Those Blu-Ray drives are $1,000 and the software to actually play Blu-Ray movies on a computer was just released. I doubt highly he's got one either. They're too new and too expensive to buy right now.

He clearly doesn't know what he's talking about with the Core 2 Duo debate.

Did you overclock the 8800? What are you using for cooling on the overclocked 6400? The stock heatsink and fans I've heard aren't quite up to the task.

Considering how large those BitTorrent files are you must have the fastest connection in the world to download half a Gig in five minutes.

If I were to do such a thing it would take me a few hours. That's if I were to do such a thing but since it's illegal I don't.  ;D

It was a test unit for Sony Blu-Ray Drive.

It was only turned on once.  The PC company was also going to use it for digital/video editing but decided to outsource their work instead.

I would NEVER buy from a manufacturer.  I have done that in the past and its not good.  You get ripped off.

Excellent, all you've proven is that someone wrote that on a piece of paper and took a picture of the paper next to the drive. Why don't you show a picture of your face next to the drive or your face with the reciept next to the drive? You're famous for faking things, you've proven nothing about your ownership.

Also, are you still fighting about the Intel Core 2 Duo being faster than anything AMD has to offer?
