When the new Mustang came out I bought every magazine it was on the cover of and to my despair they said the 5.0 would be scrapped and would never come out which greatly disappointed me but now.....
From the Jan. 07 Motor Trend Magazine
The Mustang continues to be one of the few bright spots in Ford's product range, and Dearborn intends to make the most of the reborn ponycar's popularity. The recently announced 325 horsepower Shelby GT will be joined by two more Mustang variants in 2007 - an all new Bullitt and the long rumored Boss...................
The new Boss, which will introduce Ford's all-new 5.0-liter Hurricane V-8. Due late in the year, the limited-edition Boss will get a tuned 425- to 435-horsepower version of the Hurricane, a stripped-down interior (though air-conditioning will be available), and less sound deadening.
The idea is to replicate the original Boss Mustang's race-special feel. Only 1000 cars will be built.
Slightly detuned from Boss spec, the Hurricane will become the regular GT's engine in 2008, when the Mustang will get a major face-lift. Insiders report every exterior panel is to be changed and updated, with the base cars getting a more aggressive look similar to that of the current Shelby GT500. The GT500, meantime, will become even more extreme looking.
An all-new Mustang is due 2010, a year after the new Chevrolet Camero and Dodge Challenger launch.

Yup, the only people who will have shot at them are the owners of the dealershps themselves..

Nah won't look quite like that, I wish I had a scanner to put up the pics. Same color orange though. They also havea new Bullitt Mustang which looks exactly like the one Steve McQueen drove.

Myabe you could do them a favor and they could hook you up.
Seriously though I see lots of knockoffs coming in the aftermarket scene but I am just happy to see the 5.0 back.

You can't really consider a special limited edition of 1000 "back" It would be back if it was in the standard GT. If 5.0 fans jump at this like I suspect, Ford will have successfully shot themselves in the face again with the "1000" Ford said they would have a GT500 for every buyer willing to fork over 40,000... They undershot the demand bigtime the results can be seen by visting any mustang forum with a GT500 section... Pissed off people left out of the promise... Unless you're willing to pay 20,000 over msrp ::) I love my 06gt but I just wish Ford would quit self destructing like this... Never before have I seen an auto manufacturer bitch slap their most loyal customers like Ford has recently.

Couldn't disagree more, but this is always said by some when a new mustang is released so your comment is expected.

I I think the Mustang should be progressive. Sure it s apony car, but now, the Evo's and Scoby's have now replaced the Mustang as fast and affordable "ponycars". The Mustang needs to use heritage design cues, but that is it. The Mustang GT now , by virtue of evolution should be taking out BMW M3's ;D (not on the race track).
The IS350 has more HP (less torque) than the Mustang, and is quicker and more responsive, and this is a 4 door car with a V6 >:(. The 350Z, which is a direct competitor to the Mustang, gets 300 HP (07 model) and is quicker to 60 than the current Mustang, and it too has 3.5 liter V6, and better build qaulity.
The design, ugh. They needed to evovle the design of the last gens' it was hot. Redoing the 65-69 Mustang, means that they lack innovation and new ideas, so they are playing to nostalgia. The claim that the reason why the car still has a Live rear axle is because the drag racing population wanted it. BS. V6 Mustangs outsell V8's 8 to 1, if not higher. They didn't want to spend, or could not spend the money on designing a new rear axle. These are the same people that said that a manual transmission would not go into the Lincoln LS, because "they don't have a manual tranny that can handle the torque". Yeah, you make a Mustang that has higher torque than the Lincoln LS, but you can't put the same manual in that car. BS.
I can't stand it when our American car companies put out mediocre products that seem half finished

You had your years of mustangs that we all thought didn't look anything like a mustang. For us the design is pure mustang heaven enough said. We see beauty in the retro simplicity. It was love at first sight for me ;D I understand why you don't like it, but that being said, for selfish reason, I don't care that you can't appreciate it ;D There are plenty of us who do 8) But I understand where you're coming from. I had similarly motivated thoughts about other stangs.

Oh, I appreciate the 65-69 Mustang. A while back someone near my parents house had a 65 Mustang fastback, withe the 289. It was orange. I had visions of tuning the engine and giving it that "G-machine" look. With 13-14 inch brake drilled brakes, 18-19 Torque Thrust II's, Hooker headers. Well I finally got the nerve to ask, and I got the guy's number from the wife. Sure enough, he sold the car a couple months laterr. But that for understanding. I only wish I was able to have those cars back in the day.

I would take my friends factory super charged 1967 Shelby Cobra GT350 over what Ford can put out today.

Positraction would be nice.

I mentioned t before my 86' black GT 5.0 was one of my favorites cars. It was beautiful looking. It was so quick. It was the last year they were carbureted. And it was a convertible.

Jesus christ, way to point out I missed somthing... How about you cool down, I didn't go attacking you jackass...
-
What's with the Mustang GT500 being a pig? Almost 4,000 pounds :-X. Sure it has 500 HP, but it does 0-60 in 4.5 secs. That ain't cool, especially compared to the 400 HP vette, that mags have done.
Then lets go to the badging: SVT badging and Shelby badging. Is it a SVT or a Shelby. Obviously it is a SVT product, but not a Shelby produced product, only a Shelby endorsed product.
I like the the limited edition (300) SVT Cobra's that came out back in 2001 in red only.
-
All I know it this is good news, we're in the middle of Muscle Car War II ;D It is good news that this will be in the 2008.

Yes, okay now, be truthful. Would you take the Camaro with supposedly 400 HP and I.R.S. or the Challenger, over the Challenger....
I'm still waiting for the ok for the Chrysler Firepower
-
I'm not sure what you mean by the challenger over the challenger but The Challenger looks awesome!!! I want one!!! I am a huge first gen camaro fan so was really excited about the new camaro until I saw it... I think it looks like shit. The front end is all wrong.
I made my own camaro concept:

the overall quality of American muscle cars is horrible... if your looking for straight line speed theyre great... but theyre horrible in practically every other category...
the interior of the new mustangs is soooo unbelievably cheap looking... + handling nd overall features are sooo far below the competition its disgusting... how ford brain washes all these morons not to cross shop with other vehicles is pure genius on their part... ive owned a mustang GT as my first car, totalled it it of course :-[, thought it was great... until i cross shopped a little (yes i was a moron) and realized that i was paying a ton for CRAP... currently the 350z, RX8, and s2000 blow the mustang away in virtually every conceivable way cept 0-60 time... i wound up buying the RX8... amazing car...

if you have ever driven a mustang with independent rear suspension you wouldn't be saying that ;)

expand on your thinking, this is many a persons complaint about the mustang.

The IRS in the limited Cobra seemed pretty sweet. I never rode in one, because only 300 were made. Today's IRS are a lot better than anything 20-40 yrs ago. They were thinking of adapting the IRS from the Lincoln LS/Jag S-type platform for the Mustang, but decided not to >:(.
As I said before, in this state of car evolution the Mustang ( if it were made in Europe) should be hunting down M3's. I Beleive that if Ford wasn't in such dire straits with money, and if they put money into the Mustang that it would be a world beater.
Right now Ford isnothing more than a car company that makes good trucks, not a Card company that makes good cars, unless they are from Ford of Europe.

the 03&04 cobras had irs and you cant launch it the cars are to "torquey" given the rpm range and the car just shudders and hops and is completely worthless thats why so many of these scca guys switch over to a 8.8 axle my 03 cobra was strictly for road course and the irs held me back so i built a 8.8 out of a gt and was much better
and i am not hating on anyone, but anytime people ever talk about improving a car and they have never owned the said car, while their favorite car is a euro just doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about
i have won several national scca titles and have driven most of your dream cars,so i am not talking shit i am just giving you info from experience if any body has any questions pm me because i will probably forget about this thread

325 horsepower isn't jack shit. They are neat cars for sure, but some people(usually young kids)get one and they think they have a hot rod.

This man knows his what he is talking about. If you can't hook it up there isn't any use having it. I can imagine an IRS car wheel hopping bad...shit even the old GM a body cars with coil spring suspension in the rear (if left stock) would wheel hop badly enough to rattle your teeth out.

its really bad when your cobra has a turbo instead of the stock blower and has 960hp and has broken 6 sets of halfshaft because of that trusty irs ;)

I'm not a car guy? I know plenty about the high performance aftermarket. I didn't buy a hot rod...I BUILT MINE. I have never messed with forced air induction at all, just carburated. I don't mess with the IRS stuff. Mine has ladder bars and coil overs and a spooled 12 bolt with strange axles and 5.14 gears... ;D I don't do corners.

Thanks for correcting me.
About the IRS, why is it that BMW and Mercedes (especially Mercedes) can make high torue monsters with IRS suspensions? The SL65 has 700+ torque, and des 11's, stock-- with the air conditioning on but is limited to the mid 11's because of the 285 section tires.
If we're talking drag racing, then yeah a solid axle like the 8.8 or 9" is best, but for handling IRS is best

Yea, I will take the Challenger and the mustang. I have been talking for some time that I would really like to see these two cars in my garage. I know my mustang isn't a BMW but with that said, I didn't expect that from her when i forked out the money. I haven't lost sight that part of a mustang's appeal is its affordable price and what happens to these babies with a few mods. Mustang has to be one of the most popular American cars to mod. Now if I had gone into my purchase expecting greater things, I would be pretty disapointed and I don't see all these things happening to the Mustang without a substantial price increase which WILL translate to less buyers. Mustang is what it is... a Mustang.
-
I just bought a new pontiac GTO and it is awesome. It drives like a muscle car, unlike the mustang. The new mustangs feel like sedans when you drive them. Anyone looking for a modern day "muscle" car should definetly take a look at the 06 GTO. They're not making anymore til 2010 to compete with the other muscle cars coming out in that time frame.

ahaha...oooohhh ok, it's on 8) ::) I think you mean it doesn't drive like a ricer... You've never driven a classic muscle car have you? Pure bullshit, my mustang feels nothing like a sedan... Hop in a charger and tell me which one feels more like a sedan ::) as is, it is close a race between the mustang and gto and you probably paid near 10,000 more than me unless you got a can't get the thing off my lot deal. If I drop 10 grand into my car, you're in the rear view mirror guaranteed. Oh and your car looks like the mating of a Grand am and a saturn, pure fugly, sorry, the new GTO is one of the most critized cars on the muscle car forums. At least the stang doesn't look like a sedan like the gto. Is there even going to be an 07 GTO ???

Why brag about a car that you bought? You had nothing to do with how much power it makes. You may bolt on some stuff to improve it,but you still didn't build the thing. You no doubt have a neat car,but anyone can have one.

I wasn't the one bragging, did you quote the wrong person? The mod comment was a point about the price of the gto vs. the mustang. He tossed a jab at my car, I'm just defending, it's normal ;)

yeah,my mustang is set up for roadcourse(for now)and with a turbocharged 796rwhp(as of last week)without the cold fusion 200hp fogger system its a real bitch to hook up
but outrunning the sportbikes never gets old,i also have a 540hp hayabusa so anybody who wants to really prove their car has balls outrun that shit ;D
-
I don't think any of those vehicles you mentioned would beat a Z06 Vette.
neither do i... cept a zo6 cost nearly triple the price????...
my point was to compare cars with sim. MSRPs... thought that was obviouse?

Ah, hem. Being skooled. So as a SCCA racer, what class?
-
Live rear axles are inexpensive to manufacture. Ford uses them to keep costs down for the most part.
Berserker is right about dealer markup and potential customers being angered by their inability to buy one for close to MSRP. That will only last 6 months though and then the cars will probably be readily available.
To be honest Ford would be smart to modernize the car more. Racers that like the live rear axle are only a small part of the potential market. Adding truly modern running gear, suspensions, interiors and options along with a modern and attractive exterior design would open the car up to more potential customers than the typical muscle car attracts. And Lord knows Ford needs the new customers.

Once again from my original post ::)
"Slightly detuned from Boss spec, the Hurricane will become the regular GT's engine in 2008, when the Mustang will get a major face-lift. Insiders report every exterior panel is to be changed and updated, with the base cars getting a more aggressive look similar to that of the current Shelby GT500. The GT500, meantime, will become even more extreme looking.
An all-new Mustang is due 2010, a year after the new Chevrolet Camero and Dodge Challenger launch."

Ford Sucks...
Hope this helps.. ;D
-
Lose the live rear axle. Shed a few lbs. Then you have a real winner imo. The stang is a good car. I just wish they offered fully independent suspension.
This is part of the apeal of the mustang. Low bucks, high fun ratio. Being a diehard GM guy before becoming a Mopar buy, I actually considered buying a fox body about 10 years ago. Great for going fast in a straight line, and cheap to mod.

Not compared to other American companies otherwise overall yes they do except when it comes to trucks (but I love the Tundra's my family has owned 3 already and plan to get the all new model next year).

I lease and sell high end cars. I have sold two of the Shelby GT's in the last month. $45,000 MSRP and they both sold for $65,000. I am here to tell you there is no Ford worth $20,000 over sticker (to me)
I have a Z06 I am delivering this week which is worth paying sticker plus. It's performace is compared to cars that are three times its sticker price. Most of my clients that are buying these sticker plus American sports cars already have foreign sports cars in there garages. They just want the latest greatest thing on the market.

No car is worth that much money,in my opinion.

Yea, not worth 20,000 over... Retarded and this is the kind of thing I got lost on in this thread, Ford doing shit like this just pisses off the masses. Real stupid for a company in trouble. It's a fucking ford for shit sake, not a Ferrari, meet the demand and fuck the rich idiots wanting to look special.

The dealers are the ones marking up the cars, for the most part Ford doesn't control the actions of dealers. Once a dealer gets a car from the manufacturer what's to stop them from selling the car for as much as they can?

That may be true but they can have an effect on the dealer... Like with the GT500, they underproduced for the demand bigtime. Worse, Ford said they would have a GT500 for every person who had the money to go into the dealer and put money down. It did not happen or was just bullshit to begin with. The message boards are filled with people who got screwed out of their car they thought was coming to them. Some of them with deposts down. Bad business. You have a guy thinking he's getting his GT500 at msrp, maybe a little more and bang, the car he thought was his sold to 1 of 6 other people fighting for it at 60,000... oh brother, if they met production demand, that wouldn't happen.

If I pay 65,000 - 100,000 dollars for something it better have a damn toilet and refridgerator in it.
