Ripped from a very cool interview at Aintitcoolnews.. link--> http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30869
9. Mr. Stallone,
You mentioned in your book “Sly Moves” that for many of your films, you
thought about how each character's physique was representative of how that
character was portrayed as dramatic character in their respective films.
How did you approach Rocky's psychical being in “Rocky Balboa,” and what did
you do to achieve the desired effect?
Thanks, and keep up the great work. You are an inspiration to us all.
Sincerely,
John Reilly
For ROCKY BALBOA I trained with very heavy weights like a power-lifter, and I duplicate that in the film itself. Here’s an interesting tidbit: for months before the film a couple of high-ranking executives who shall remain nameless insisted that I let myself go, and in their words, “Pork out.” I wasn’t following their reasoning, and they explained themselves by saying, “Rocky should just be an average guy and not in shape at all, so he represents the everyday man.” Strangely enough, I followed this advice and one month before the filming I couldn’t fit into my boxing trunks. I looked in the mirror and thought this would be too much for the audience to swallow - that Rocky would be completely overweight and out of shape and manage to get in the ring with the world champion. Though I like eating junk food as much as everyone else, I had to go on a crash diet of high-protein (mainly beef) and many, many supplements. I had to lift weights until I could barely stand. So the results were a more believable approach, that although Rocky is well over the age range, he physically appears to be in competitive shape.
-
How does many many supplements equate to steroids?
-
eh you know what he means ::)
-
Yes ephedra + creatine + protein + ginsing + andro + cla + glutamine = many many supplements. 8)

What a load of BS, he comes out with this crap before every muscle film he does and Jo Public eats it up, anyone who knows anything about training sees through this Psuedo training bullshit Sly dishes out pre film premiere. As if he wasnt madly in shape for this months beforehand ::)
-
Alex, true those are many supplements, but you, me, and Rocky all know that none of those supplements will transform him from "completely overweight and out of shape" into what you see filmed in Rocky 6 in only 1 month. "Many, many supplements", to me, means not just a light cycle.. but something Stallone seemed almost hesitant doing, aka heavy dosages. ;D
-
He's talking about his INSTONE supplement line.

It is possible but we all know that Sly is a fighting till the end! If there is any actor that could do that naturally, my money would be on him.

i ordered free samples of that shit about 6 months ago
WHERES MY SHIT
-
How does many many supplements equate to steroids?
It's called CODE-SPEAK. Sorta like, you know ... um...
Well, hard to put it into "You need to have a basic understanding of Life" terms, but I'll do my best:
He can't, well.. REALLY say roids because, they are what's called ILLEGAL.
Like .. (hmm.. trying to find a good example)
Like .. Although it isn't, it should be ILLEGAL to hijack a thread, but you get away with it so much, it's considered LEGAL.
So imagine Stallone trying to protect himself by not sounding ILLEGAL.
Understand?
If not I have a good handbook on this stuff called "HOLY SHIT I HAVE A LIFE" version 2.601 in a WORD document, if you like.
PS
STALLONE LOOKS GOOD FOR HIS AGE IN THE TRAILER.
-
I'm sure that even tho while in his twenties, Stallone needed handfuls of deca from Franco to achieve his massive 170 pounds for Rocky movies, he was able to reach a lifetime best in his 50s using only INSTONE supplements.
-
cell-tech
-
Rocky 4 He was juiced to the gills when he fought the Russian...at least he looked like it.
-

may sound stupid, but actually why not?
the guy is 60, has a lot of time on his hands and more than 40 years of training on his back.
He isn't really what you would call a mass monster.
-
Sly is 60 he can get anything he wants prescribed to him totally legal lol...Hell I pray that I look that great at 60...
-

Well, that is certainly a point that has to be taken into consideration.
Yeah, he probably is on some test. ;D ;D

I wouldn't doubt it for a second...Most active guys his age are on some kind of test therapy..May it be patches, gel, or injections...

Yeah, you're probably right.
I'd even think he probably has some GH running too. Low dose probably, but should help him getting ripped.

I have trained multiple guys at the gym that were in the 40's and their doc's had them on GH to lose weight...It is very popular for male performance doc's to prescribe it I have noticed...

Totally uncommon in europe. ;D
-
One can take it any way... "Many many supplements" can mean just that OR as one member mentioned -- a code! :-X
-
stallone, i believe, is in the supplement market now so i believe this is why he mentioned it, no code, he wants to make a killing here like everywere else.
btw, this guy has made more fucking money than a small nation from his physique (he can't fucking act). does anyone actually think this man is not going to take shit to look the shit?
stallone was shredded for rocky, rambo, etc. yes, he was 180 or whatever but he is what, 5'6 or something. anyone in the know knows that you don't get in that condition ie rambo 111, rocky 4 on fucking egg whites and oatmeal.
some of you guys equate it like this, 'ok, i'm 200 and i've got this big ass and gut with no idea what my abs look like but, yeah, i reckon i could drop about 30 pounds and be ultra ripped like rocky so...
SORRY, doesn't work like that. when you start dropping fat the first few pounds seem to fall away in a simple equasion ie eat less, more cardio = weight loss.
true, but then you get to this point where you're finally beginning to see your abs and whoosh, you're body starts to rebel because it doesn't know what you're doing. it still thinks your stuck in a cave with a hungry saber tooth sitting outside, better drop this extra muscle and store some fat quick.
so what do you do? you increase the cardio and drop even more calories and drop a little more weight, except now you're losing muscle and your metabolism is slowing big time.
so the tough keep going until it reaches it's inevitable conclusion: you now weigh 150 with noodles for arms and you feel pretty limp dick...but you got some abs :D and you look nothing like rocky :'(
-
If he's smart (which he is ;D), he'll use this as an opportunity to pimp out his supplements. Hormone replacement or not, he looks incredible for a man his age...
-

yes, i thought i made that clear ::)
-
Everyone knows that Stallone has taken steroids in his life. Come on now. Especially for this movie. I bet he will have more muscle mass in this movie than all the others. I saw him in that show the Contender and he looked pretty jacked. Big arms and chest. The guy's 60. He's juiced. So what? Lots of actors do. A lot of actors don't work out or nothing and they gotta get in shape for a movie in just 2 or 3 months. I'm sure that Vin Diesel and a lot of those guys juiced. I even heard that Will Smith juiced to play Ali. Remember people who work on movies have like 14 hour days. Barely time to eat or do anything. Let em juice! What's the big deal? If they wanna be real safe about it they probably take a little primobolan or something like that. If I ever juiced when I got old I wouldn't go crazy with the needles and all that stuff, just do a little primo or winstrol. Just enough to keep what you got.
hahahaha, gibberj thinks that Stallone has "big arms and chest", what a joke.
-
i ordered free samples of that shit about 6 months ago
WHERES MY SHIT
You should be thankful. I was given some of the pudding as a freebie. Fugging tasted like that glue paste we used to eat in kindergarten. :D
-
I don't think that he used steroids...there is no need for them!
Shawn Ray went from not working out to getting in a near competition shape by only taking a few sips of Goat protein. And according to Shawn Bill Wilmor picked up 20 tubs of Goat juice from Vyotech when he signed with them. Look for Bill to place very high at the next O if not win it all.
Now my friends with Goat protein at Stallone's disposal why would he need to take steroids. And the rumor is Shawn stacked Goat juice and creatine...oh my god..that combination of poweral supplements has to be illegal in some states.
Vyotech..providing you with the best Goat Juice.

You must remember to not use it all at once. Personally I don't think that you train hardcore enough to start stacking this with creatine yet

how can you argue with fine imported Goat juice?

Yep..this is the next step in human evolution as it relates to bodybuilding. I am waiting for the ad with the guy in the white lab coat to tell us so.
"The Protein
Goat milk protein has the highest bioavailability of any protein on the planet, in fact it comes from one of the world’s oldest domesticated animals whose milk is very similar in chemical structure and properties to human milk. Goat milk has been touted as one of the premium sources of nutrients in the history of the world. Everyone at one point or another has heard of the benefits of goat’s milk. But not everyone has jumped on the bandwagon, yet!"

Hi Sly.
-
he looks incredible!! Hormone replacement simply equals good health....absolutely nothing in the world wrong with it, especially if you want to live a active, healthy and competitive lifestyle. Yet, he does not even remotely come close to admitting steroid use in this interview...your comprehension is questionable.
-
If I remember correctly wasn't he pretty damn big when he did Cliffhanger....I remember thinking 'well that is pretty much all the evidence I need, he's in the club' .... but that was a long time ago, maybe i'll go rent it.
-
hahahaha, i can't even imagine what some of you guys look like if you think Stallone is big.
-
hahahaha, i can't even imagine what some of you guys look like if you think Stallone is big.
I would personally suggest that Stallone, especially in light of his having recently turned 60, has an exceptional build. I would also wager that his physique during his theatrical career, and even now, is more impressive than the physiques sported by the majority of people who are unduly critical of him.

Stallone admitted to some steroid use in the 1980's on the Don Imus show a few years back. He said something to the effect of "I've tried the little blue pills before", and then changed the subject to other things.
-
Steroids? Any man his age should be on between 250-300 mg of Test a week for hormone replacement. Its healthy.

9. Sly:
No bigger fan here, and I am curious. What was your max on the bench press, squat, etc.? Back in the late 1980s-early-1990s you appeared to look the biggest/most massive.
Kirk
STALLONE:
I used to be able to bench press around 385-400 lbs. and then I severely tore my right pectoral so under my arm I have 160 stitches and I had to have a window cut into my shoulder bone, and cable laced through the damage, and muscle pulled back to the bone where it was attached. That’s why I’m so vascular on one side. It might be interesting to note that I received this injury, I was stupid enough to get into a bench press contest with former Mr. Universe, Franco Columbo, who was considered one of the strongest men in the world. The accident happened in his garage, which was inhabited, believe it or not, by this demented-looking one-winged spotted owl. I couldn’t make this up. When my muscle exploded, I fell onto the floor. Franco pulled the weights off of me and all I could see was my arm turning black and that friggin goofy, one-winged, mouse-munching f**cker flapping around in tight circles. By the way, my best squat was 550 lbs

Yeah right... insulin... ::)
Low dose test and low dose GH is commonly prescribed.
Where the hell do you get that insulin stuff from? Far too dangerous, especially for older folks.

I just watched the first 3 rocky movies last night. He started juicing in Rocky III in 1982. It is obvious come on. Look at the facial structure changes as well.

hahahaha, sorry i hurt your feelings by making fun of your hero, "upinthemguts".
-
Also worth noting it that the dude playing the current heavyweight champ is Antonio Tarver. A light heavyweight who fights @ 175lbs. That should be enough to make Sly look like a heavyweight. They'll have a ref, shorter than usual and small corner men. An old 3 stooges trick that made them seem small. That, plus all those supplements should make Sly look like a heavyweight.
-
Like him or not, juice or not, Stalone is one of the few Hollywood types who really hits the iron and shares the same passion as we do. I remember being a kid and seeing "Rambo, first blood part two" and thinking he was the most muscular man I'd ever seen. He set a new standard, and to this day, we rarely see an actor in as good as shape as he was 20+ years ago.
-
hahahaha, sorry i hurt your feelings by making fun of your hero, "upinthemguts".
Again, you're an idiot. There is no hero worship. I just want to look that good when I'm that age.
It's easy tell what you're all about. You come off as an ignorant juice head who has no afterthought for the future thinking you'll always look great with no possiblity of ageing. Typical meathead. Get your mom to pop the zits on your back And think about what kind of stupid name YOU HAVE before you rip on mine, jerk off.

Sly strives for the greek ideal look, with his money and knowledge (he is a mensa member) you dont think he could add more mass if he wanted? For slys frame the greek ideal is around 16 inch biceps which he has, dont confuse him with someone trying to be a bodybuilder who cant.

Mensa, a group where you have to have at least a 130ish IQ to join, he's a member. What I mean is he isnt stupid, has plenty of money and obviously knows how to train and get in shape so if he wanted 20 -30 pounds more mass im sure he could obtain it.Like I said though he has stated many times he wishes only to have the physique of the Greek ideal, look at any greek statue, they are muscular yet lean and in proportion.

I know what it is. I always thought Sly was kind of dumb. Maybe he just has a speech impediment.

Well you learn something new every day.

i don't know if sly is intending to look a 'greek ideal' and i don't know about his iq, but i think he is smart enough to realize that if being a pumped up welter weight ating the part of a heavyweight champion isn't beyond people's imagination then having the bodybuilder look sure would be.
can you imagine lee priest playing the part of a fighter: 'put ya hands up kid!'
'i'm tryin to jimmy. maybe if i put my arms like this?'
'what are ya gunno do when lang throws those hooks then, kid?
sly knew he was always going to be small and adding bulk was just going to make him look stocky and short which is not a good hollywood look.
better to get ripped to the bone, that way he looks strong, sleek, athletic and actually taller.
mensa? he was a friggin genius when it came to making the most from what he was dealt. ;)

'i'm tryin to jimmy. maybe if i put my arms like this?'
'what are ya gunno do when lang throws those hooks then, kid?
sly knew he was always going to be small and adding bulk was just going to make him look stocky and short which is not a good hollywood look.
better to get ripped to the bone, that way he looks strong, sleek, athletic and actually taller.
mensa? he was a friggin genius when it came to making the most from what he was dealt. ;)
Not true anymore, the heavyweight division is a joke,Roy Jones won a heavyweight belt at around 190, he started off smaller than sly. Also Marciano, undefeated his whole career at Heavyweight was around 175-180.

roy fought a holder of ONE of the belts, john ruiz. he was a paper champ that has been exposed many times. the guy wins by jabbing and grabbing and then mauling inside.
for some reason known only to ruiz, he chose to box centre ring instead with one of the greatest fighters last decade. if jones had fought a REAL hw like lennox (6'5") or either klitschko (6' 7+) he would have had his ass handed to him.
anyway, you can't compare roy to sly for ability, skill and athleticism. to do so is just ignorant. btw, jones about 5'11.5 and when was he the same size as sly? 11 years old?
anyway, my point was that sly made himself as believable as possible in movies. having a bulky bber physique would be too far fetched for the the movie goer...well, obviously not ALL movie goers ::)
marciano's success was based on wearing his opponent down with his granite chin and then puting the suzie q on him. again, the rock was about 5'10 and 183. not that small for the time and certainly not a pumped up welter weight, 5'6" 170 (tops) stallone.
-
Sly is completely unbelievable as heavyweight champ. I still like the movies, but come on! hahaha.
Guy is like 5'7'' 175.
Back in Marciano's day, heavies weren't as big. There were exceptions (Primo Carnera comes to mind) but generally they weren't huge and ripped.
The WBA champ is 7' tall lolz.
Roy Jones is a great LHW, but like the poster said, against a REAL heavy he would be demolished.

Stallone "admits" to Heavy Steroid use to get in shape for ROCKY 6!!!
If you just NOW only realized that Stallone was using AAS for all of his Rocky movies, you're seriously naive or stupid.
His face reeks of AAS......esp at this advanced age.
Do you honestly think a man of his current age could get in that kind of shape and lift that kind of weight in preparation for a movie without anabolic assistance?
The guy has been using AAS for years......since the 80's.
Wake up.

Assuming that Stallone has, or still does utilize anabolics, what of it? Everyday, on this very board, wonderment is expressed with regard to competitive bodybuilders, whose accomplishments are aided, perhaps substantially, by anabolics, among other drugs. Why then, should Stallone be subject to scrutiny, if in fact, his physical attainment were nominally aided? Especially, in light of his having demonstrated extreme dedication in the area of training and nutrition to display a physique that at 60 years of age, most others would be hard pressed to match, regardless of age. There is such a thing as giving credit where credit is due.

How profound. You're like bodybuilding Nietsche or some shit.

where do you all get this blubbering nonsense that stallone is 5'7"? he's at least 5'9" anyway if he was 5'7" he'd be lighter than 175. did you all see rocky 3? he was very lean and had no legs just like in all the movies except this one. he woulda been 160.
Stallone is not 5'9''
-
yea maybe even 5'10".
you're as pathetic as your pitiful physique.
hope this helps.
