Training 6 weeks ago i did the unforgivable, Military pressing 2 plates a side which is not to heavy for me clean, i tore my rotator cuff seriously.I am fucking pissed no medical insurance ive had tears before but nothing quite as serious as this.I cannot lift my arm above my shoulder with out seroius pain.
I have dropped40 pounds since the accident, Why eat when it will turn to fat.
Should i get medical insurance without disclosing the injury anyway does anyone no the cost of the surgery for a rotator cuff injury by a first class Doctor and how long does rehab take.
Im up a fucking creek without a fucking paddle. >:(

GET INSURANCE NOW!
I tore rotator, no bench for a year... You could be different but why take a chance.
I had back surgery L4-L5. No heavy squats no rows, not even jogging on the road.
Hernia surgery, cramps in my abs. No more than 1 set.
Forget if anyone minimalizes it here. Over protect, and heal

i tore my mcl and it took 2 months to walk right again, forget about heavy training durin that time. didnt require surgery though because the acl was intact. for a rotator cuff it's pretty likely you need surgery, so i'd get on that right away

I tore a left testicule pile driving this stripper in the back of my car about 10 yrs ago! I was on a heavy "pro-hormone" stack ::) and when I went to the doc he said "...damn son where are your nuts?...I can't even find them to know if you tore one!!!" A quick HCG program and many percs later I was a o.k. Hope this helps!!! ;D
-
Yeah, I think I'm going to go down in weight on military press. That exercise ruins shoulders. Flat barbell bench is another. Good luck.

That got a laugh.
-
well you can allways work on your legs while your shoulder heals.
do them 2 times a week. with proper nutrition they will grow like weed.

Hey bro, seriously...I didn't know till the wig popped off!

I tore the distal biceps tendon in my left are 2 years ago and was out of work for 6 months. I did legs twice a week and really brought them up, as my upper body was ahead of my legs. The arm healed up, and my symmetry actual improved because of it.

1) A dislocated shoulder at birth due to getting stuck in the birth canal; I was 11lbs
2) A broken nose from standing behind a metal swing with a child on it when I was 5 years old.
3) A torn left quadriceps tendon from falling while barbell lunging
4) A torn achilles tendon from calf raises, weakened from heavy stationary lunges
-
I dislocated my shoulder last year, and it kept me from upper body training for about 3-4 months. Lost 20 pounds because I was eating like shit the whole time.
-
get insurance asap dont tell them anything. wait about a month and go to the Dr. I broke my wrist in 5 places on a quad. broke foot on rollerblades. broke hands hitting shit (I used to have a bad temper) broke ribs on quad never tore anything though
-
Last year I had a complete rupture of my right achilles tendon. Made a hell of a noise when it went too.
-
Ripped my pec benching. Had surgery last year. Still isn't the same. Luckily, I have been able to keep a lot of my size. Just found different ways of working around it.

I had the exact same injury about 4 years ago. Sounded like a gun shot when it snapped. I wouldn't wish this injury on anyone. Did you recover ok? My right leg still doesn't have the power it had before the injury.
-
From 20 years of lifting I've worn the cartilage out in both my shoulders. Bone on bone. The only thing I can do, and I've been to 3 sports orthopedics, is a double shoulder replacement. Check it out, it is the end. I live on pain killers and can do many lifts, but someday the pain will rule and I will get the operations and hang up my lifting belt:'(
-
Left Pec tear and right Quad tear. I don't recommend either.
-
I'm still trying to get past a pretty bad shoulder injury. :( I too am thinking of hanging up the seated military presses and just going with raises from here on out. :-\

Full thickness rotator cuff tear with surgery on left shoulder 3 years ago. Partial tear of rotator cuff right shoulder last year, rehabbed myself (I do PT work)
-
Full thickness tear of the left rotator cuff 3 years ago, had surgery, 100% better. Partial tear of right rotator cuff last year, rehabbed myself (I do PT work) You must do int. & ext. rotation work for stabilizer muscles and keep stretching. Layoff all pressing movements for some time. Try to work "around" the injury if you can, I used mostly dumbbells and machines, kept my reps a little higher than normal (15-20) Do a lot of rear delt and scapula work...And remember soreness is good, blood and oxygen getting to the muscles for rehab, pain is bad, anything with pain stop it!

Great advice here.

i have been fortunate not to have any serious injuries the worst i saw was when my Buddy tore his pec and it was just dangling like a piece of meat

Im only 24 and Ive already had my first shoulder replacement back in April. I had pain in my shoulder for about 4 years but trained through it (Im a fuckin idiot). It got to the point that I couldnt do any barbell, then andy dumbell and finally I couldnt even do Hammer strength towards the end. I had a few injections, but I finally had the operation. My shoulder strength is 100% and Im close to 100% on chest exercises. WORD TO THE WISE...Get your body looked at by a doc if it hurts.
I also had my knee scoped in January of this year (to remove scar tissue from an ACL). I also had foot surgery in July of this year. Ive been busy with operations, but Im hoping Im done for awhile.
Just listen to your body guys

Wow... In over 25 years of lifting I never have gotten seriously hurt, thank God.
A kid who works at my gym tore his pec last year while benching 225. I've been doing dumbbell inclines as my primary chest movement for several months now because barbell benches were starting to give me sore wrists. Dumbbells put a lot less strain on your wrists because you can find a comfortable groove versus being locked into a fixed position with a barbell. After reading all your horror stories, I don't know if I'll ever go back to doing regular barbell benches again.

You're not kidding. There was a guy 10 feet away from me that said he heard mine snap. All in all, my receovery after surgery went well, but it has taken considerable time to bring my right quad back into close proportion to my left. Curiously, the most noticeable defect is my right calf muscle. It is still atrophied since the surgery and hasn't come back the way I had thought it would. At this point, I am not really hampered in the gym, but I suspect if I tried to return to some of the sports I played a few years back, that I would notice, as you unfortunately have, that one is never totally the same after such an injury. Oh well, at least we both have a cool looking scar as a conversation piece, eh?

I feel for you man. Shoulder injuries are bad. Your shoulder will never be the same again. I tore my lower triceps tendon 2 years ago doing heavy flat dumbbell presses. It wasn't pretty. I was lucky enough to get surgury booked for the next day. It was last minute. It shelved me for 8 weeks. I was lucky I was only in the cast for 2 weeks. Brutal. Best advice I can give you is cut your losses, let it heal properly and when you get back in the gym train smarter not harder. Mayby pre-exhaust your delts with some lateral raises before doing your presses so you won't have to go as heavy. Your muscle won't know the difference and it'll grow regardless. Trust me. I learned my lesson. Good luck to you.

Anyone had ACL replacement surgery?
How was rehab and are you 100% in your lifts today?
Thanks

overload there should be no reason why you cant recover 100% from an acl surgery, especially in gym exercises where the movments are straight on and there's no pivot and cutting / quick change of direction movements. how did you tear it in the first place?
-
Let's see, dislocated right shoulder 7 times, dislocated left knee 5 times, blew out lower back and couldn't walk for about 2 weeks, stress fractured right wrist, broken toe on left foot, various sprains and muscle strains.
So far nothing that has required surgery....just rest and some rehab on my own.

i train for strongman and powerlifting comps...well until now.
i started playing indoor soccer to stay in shape with the company team. during the first game i went to change directions and i felt and heard it pop. the guy defending me said "what the hell was that"...it wasn't as painfull as i thought it would be and i even finished the game. i figured i just sprained it really bad but it swelled up bad the following day. i got an MRI and sure enough i tore the bitch...i'm getting surgery in february.
i learned that taking 10 years off from soccer, gaining 60 pounds during that time off and then playing full speed on turf = torn ACL...lol
most people say i should be 110% 6 months after the surgery. i'm just curious what people on here have came back from it. it has put a very abrupt halt in my powerlifting schedule.

man that sucks! but you gotta listen to the body, get it fixed and let it heal up. you'll be back in teh gym you know enough how to train and eat properly.

Yep, you are bankrupt and fucked. This is why medical insurance is so high, clods like you, we have to pay your way.
-
yeah you should be fine, just complete the PT's rehab exercises and schedule and dont skimp on them as the knee starts to get better. look at all the pro footbal players who have come back from knee blowouts...deion branch, carson palmer, mcnabb (then injured his other one)...its a recoverable injury
i'd pass on the full tilt soccer shit from now on and save your maximum efforts for a sport you'd say was worth getting injured from, if you can say that at all. just do regular cardio to stay in shape.

About 4-5 years ago new pro Robert Washington tore a knee kicking a football for fun on a football field. When you've lifted for years without doing many other fast-paced/contact activities and you jump full speed back into an activity you used to do you're much more likely to get hurt. That denser muscle mass isn't used to bending and stretching quickly like that......good luck on the rehab.

this just proves that lunges are a shitty exercise, and quite useless too if i may add

This is what i've been told by several guys who have had ACL replacements. one of the soccer players on the team has had BOTH of his replaced and says they are better than when he was in high school. he told me to do "more" PT than they tell you to and be intense about it.
the surgeon doing mine has done several NFL players and triathalon people...he's positive i'll be 110% after the surgery.
Jr. Yates - i had no warning...i thought my knees were indestructable until this point. i've never had knee pain my entire life.
MOS - that is exactly what happen. i run sprints every other week just for cardio but i never change directions. my body couldn't take the new pressure of cutting back and forth.

And yes, my soccer days are over...lol

Thanks Guy Grundy and BigAnt for your messages of concern,I saw a physio and most of what she said went right over my head but there is a slight tear but the main problem is the joint itself.NO Operation needed just 3 to 6 months of Rehab depending on how i respond to treatment.
I am in a state of relief. ;D

Five years ago I tore my left pec partially off the ribcage when doing incline bench. Took nearly 16 months to get over and my dreams of looking like Sergio were dashed :(. It's never quite been the same since and now just do weighted push ups. There was a ton of scar tissue as well and a speciallist cleared it with a cortisone injection and 16 months of pain was over. Still thank my lucky stars cause I didn't think I would ever lift a weight again.
SERGIO!!!!

Torn right labrum. No repair. Constant pain. Serious neck injury from the same accident. My neck will sometimes lock up and send stabbing pain down my neck.
