Title: JOJ's NEW LIFT CLAIMS IN FLEX MAGAZINE!!!!
Post by: alexxx on January 10, 2007, 08:53:15 AM
Apparently the little bugger can press the 150s for 12-15 reps overhead in his offseason. Now last I heard he could barely get 150 x 4 reps with while training with Coleman on incline chest. How can this be?

bullshit.

Here is the full quote!

"With his full quota of carbs(who talks this way anyways) and calories in the offseason, Jackson regularly presses 150-pound dumbbells(sp haha) for 15 reps, uses 100 pound dumbells for 10 reps of side laterals, and upright rows are 335 for 12 reps. He's hoisted as much as 405 for eight reps for upright rows."

Most bodybuilders can't even deadlift that much and we are supposed to believe he has used those for upright rows? Who else here can upright row what they bent row?

Who talks like that? Hmmm...try magazine writers with vocabularies.

Why are Jackson's strength claims so far-fetched. I've pressed with 105s and I'm nowhere near as big as Jackson is.

Yes we know magazine writers are girlie men.

so from pressing the 105s you get that you can also press the 150s or what?

Ummm....NOOOOO!!!

My point was that, if I can press 105s, I don't find it all that difficult to see how Jackson (FAR LARGER AND STRONGER THAN I AM) can handle 150s (especially, if he's in off-season mode).

I am sure he could press them for a few but with no range. I know that magazine writers have a nack for stretching the truth. Johnnie could be ending his workout with a few reps of them.

Flex does them with full range and he does not consider himself the strongest lifter.

So, you believe that Wheeler (a guy who wasn't known for having phenomenal strength, relatively speaking) can handle 150s; but, Jackson, who is at a similar size level and a bona-fide powerlifter, somehow can't do the same?

I like that, people who train heavy but make the muscle work and don't boast about their lifts (flex,Lee).  I really don't care that ronnie can do the 200s and then scream yeah buddy.

JOJ does 10 or 12 easy reps with the 150's on incline in his "power bodybuilding DVD"...

I think they meant bent rows instead of upright...that's alot of weight.

if you watch his videos you will see he is pretty strong...benches 495 for 3 reps.

8)

wth? i think everyone's seen the video of him "hoisting" 405 for bent over barbell rows, how the hell can he do that so poorly and manage to do 405 for upright rows for 8??!?

i find it hard to believe someone that would type "ummm... noooooooo!!!!" like some 8 year old girl could press 105s

Branch has said before that Johnnie would use 315 for a bunch of reps with the upright row.  As for the 150 shoulder press I don't believe it.  In a muscular development a few years back Branch said that he only does theat weight for 8 reps and that he would never think about going heavier.  Johnnie is a terrific squatter and deadlifter but to say he is stronger than Branch at pressing movements is crazy.  And also there is a huge difference between pressing 105 and pressing 150.  Think back to when you could only press80 pounds would you have every said 105 ain't no big deal.

johnnie has recorded powerlifting lifts of around 830 pounds in the squat and 814 pounds in the deadlift weighing 230 or so, with the deadlift happening a few weeks prior to the 2001 nationals. i don't really find his claim to be bullshit if he's full offseason.

Well it just goes to show you that it's not how much you lift to have a great physique. His physique is just average as far as the top pro's are concerned. His legs are actually below average in fact. Then again if you see his form and range of motion on his lifts, it explains it all. 1/4 inch range of motion lifts !

questionable lifts for johnie ronnie did reps with 160lbs

johnie i dont think is strong on pressing lifts at all.... his 405 bench and inclines... qustionable bouncing there.. and he struggled unlike branch...
upright rowing 405.... hmmm i dont think so...
.. i am yet to see johnie on video do any of there lifts..
also branch and johnie behind the neck pressing 405 for 15 or 20 reps i heard.  questionable...

Who cares if he has any Pl records. This is bodybuilding. If he wants to do better in this sport he needs to train accordingly. Otherwise he should Powerlift for a living. It's not doing him any good in bodybuilding.

I think it may have helped him in his back and chest thickness, but i agree 100% this is bbing.
