Title: Just courious....
Post by: TestDummy on January 13, 2007, 02:58:08 AM
How manny of you are fighter guys and how manny are just fans of fighting?  I've been a big fan of MMA since I found the first coppy of UFC at the vidio store back in the 90's but never got into training. Anyway I got tired of being pushed around by all the real big guys at my gym so I went and got a "tap out" shirt and beenie and walk around the gym with a pissed off look on my face and they all leave me alone now I guess they think I'm a fighter guy and I might beat there ass.....

 ;D

There are a lot of guys who wear a "Tap, snap or nap" t-shirt who've never rolled at most shows.  To answer the question, I box and train BJJ when I have the opportunity, and have had 1 ammy MMA fight.

Thats why I refuse to put anything Crap out on my body or my car.... I've been training MA and MMA format for about 14 years...Tap out has become a fan sportwear... I would say that 70% of the people who sport it on the street have never trained its cool. I just cant stand it. I always ask guys if they train when they wear that shit and they almost always reply "train what"

Too many "knock off" brands in Hawaii.  Some knucklehead made "Purebreed" clothing line a blatant knock off of Purebred (Enson Inoue's line).  There is Tap Dis, Tap Dat, I'd Tap Dat, etc, etc.  Everybody acts like a figther here, wears the clothing, gets tons of tats, etc, etc.  You will never know who is good and who isn't.  James Tanaka, is a black belt in BJJ under Rickson Gracie, took second in the Pan Ams in 2003, weighs a buck fourty and looks like an import driving asian teenager.  He would tap most BJJ black belts, and has a killer stand up game, is great with weapons, and is a former Marine Recon advance scout.  Give him a 1911, and he would make most SWAT trainers look silly.  So you don't have to look and act the part.  In fact, most people that do are prolly the posers.

That is TOO F'n FUNNY!!!

Seriously, the only person in my current gym who wears "T.O." gear (not all the time) is my training partner. And yes, he did train AND FIGHT in MMA until about a year ago. Work, injuries and a son took priority. He still works some with his trainers, but mainly just to keep in shape.
And yeah, he's got the big ugly knuckles, cauliflower ears and a big, thick neck. That could be why nobody ever questions his involvement. ::)

A lot of guys are genetically gifted when it comes to ear cartillage.  James Tanaka never wears ear guards, and his ears look fine.  He also can sub Egan and Enson Inoue, and can hang with just about any BJJ player his weight.
