Title: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE to REUNITE
Post by: the shadow on February 03, 2007, 12:41:15 AM
AWESOME :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Reunion (2007)

Members of the band have reportedly been offered large sums of money to reunite for concerts and tours, and have turned the offers down.[3] Despite rumors that there was bad blood between the band and de la Rocha, when they were asked about their relationship with de la Rocha during an August 28, 2006 interview on Rockline, Commerford said that he and de la Rocha see each other often and go surfing together. Morello said he and de la Rocha communicate by phone, and had met up at a September 15, 2006 protest in support of the South Central Farmers, who tend one of the biggest urban farms in the United States.[4] Morello and de la Rocha were photographed together at the protest, the first photograph of the two since the band's breakup. [5]

Billboard reported on January 19, 2007 that there were rumors Rage Against the Machine could reunite at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.[6]. These rumors were confirmed in a Los Angeles Times article on January 22[7] and later on the band's official website.[8] The band is billed to headline the final day of Coachella 2007 on Sunday, April 29.[9][10] Billboard reports that sources suggest this will likely be a one-off,[11] but Morello has not ruled out future RATM activities.[12] Kerrang! reports that more performances have been planned.[verification needed]

The reunion performance will primarily be a vehicle to voice the band's opposition to the "right-wing purgatory" the United States has "slid into" under the George W. Bush administration since RATM's dissolution.[12]

Rage made a great first album and some ok stuff in between filler for a few more.  They don't under any circumstances need to make another album.  Why? because they do the same shit every song.. pick up a bass or guitar and play a few rage songs from their first album and you'll have the tools to quickly figure out any song they have made.

i think so they have a very unique sound..dude their unique guitar and bass rifts are impossible to figure out.sometimes their lead guitar player has difficulties in figuring out his own riffs.rage is one of a kind

The first album is an undisputed classic. Great production, great lyrics [although i don't agree with any of them], great guitar [like an angry jimmy page], cool ryhtum section.

However, my abiding memory of RATM is seeing them play live at a festival where they inevitably played 'killing in the name of'. The problem was the audience was full of students that paid a fortune to get in, paid a fortune for food and drink, and had just paid an insane ammount of money to the goverment - who had introduced 'tuition fees'. Fuck you i won't do what you tell me? ::) ::) ::) HYPOCRITES

Their sound is unique, it was just kind of the same thing every album though.. so much so that I'd often find myself playing bass for some of the first album and accidentally tabbing songs from their later albums.  Realistically the unique element is morello.

The basslines for the first Rage cd are up there with Pearl Jam's ten as one of the most fun to jam along with at home.  Shit, I think I might put on that cd today :)

The REAL question is, will Rage Against the Machine touch upon the most catalyzing and divisive issue of our lifetimes?  The highly scrutinized event which triggered the wars and domestic controls.

no they're a shitty rock/rap infusion band and they're a bunch of fucking commies. Why don't they donate all the money they've made from record sales and donate to junkies who don't feel like working? Then they'ed honor thier socialist beliefs.

Hah yeh.. I got so sick of playing those songs every day.  I can still knock out bombtrack years and years later after not playing bass for ages.  It never leaves you.  The thing that bugged me about the later albums is that I could stuff around with the know your enemy/bombtrack tabs and generally accidentally end up playing half the new songs.

Zach is god!

shadow,
RATM guitar and bass isn't all that hard.  I learned the first RATM record in about a week on bass when I was a beginner.  They're eighth notes at worst, all in E or D.  It ain't rocket science.  get a whammy pedal and a wah and you can cop anything morello does on guitar.  They're cool as hell, and creative, but not hard to learn.

actually here you go....

4th Branch

The voice of racism preaching the gospel is devilish
A fake church called the prophet Muhammad a terrorist
Forgetting God is not a religion, but a spiritual bond
And Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Qu'ran
They bombed innocent people, tryin' to murder Saddam
When you gave him those chemical weapons to go to war with Iran
This is the information that they hold back from Peter Jennings
Cause Condoleeza Rice is just a new age Sally Hemmings
I break it down with critical language and spiritual anguish
The Judas I hang with, the guilt of betraying Christ
You murdered and stole his religion, and painting him white
Translated in psychologically tainted philosophy
Conservative political right wing, ideology
Glued together sloppily, the blasphemy of a nation
Got my back to the wall, cause I'm facin' assassination
Guantanamo Bay, federal incarceration
How could this be, the land of the free, home of the brave?
Indigenous holocaust, and the home of the slaves
Corporate America, dancin' offbeat to the rhythm
You really think this country, never sponsored terrorism?
Human rights violations, we continue the saga
El Savador and the contras in Nicaragua
And on top of that, you still wanna take me to prison
Just cause I won't trade humanity for patriotism

[Hook]
It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain
Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view of the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle
A bandana full of glittering, generality
Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality?
Read about the history of the place that we live in
And stop letting corporate news tell lies to your children

[Verse 2]
Flow like the blood of Abraham through the Jews and the Arabs
Broken apart like a woman's heart, abused in a marriage
The brink of holy war, bottled up, like a miscarriage
Embedded correspondents don't tell the source of the tension
And they refuse to even mention, European intervention
Or the massacres in Jenin, the innocent screams
U.S. manufactured missles, and M-16's
Weapon contracts and corrupted American dreams
Media censorship, blocking out the video screens
A continent of oil kingdoms, bought for a bargain
Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin'
The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason
A desert full of genocide, where the bodies are freezin'
And the world doesn't believe that you fightin' for freedom
Cause you fucked the Middle East, and gave birth to a demon
It's open season with the CIA, bugging my crib
Trapped in a ghetto region like a Palestinian kid
Where nobody gives a fuck whether you die or you live
I'm tryin' to give the truth, and I know the price is my life
But when I'm gone they'll sing a song about Immortal Technique
Who beheaded the President, and the princes and sheiks
You don't give a fuck about us, I can see through your facade
Like a fallen angel standing in the presence of God
Bitch niggaz scared of the truth, when it looks at you hard

[Hook]
It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain
Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view in the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle
A bandana full of glittering, generality
Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality?
Martial law is coming soon to the hood, to kill you
While you hanging your flag out your project window

[Talking]
Yeah..
The fourth branch of the government AKA the media
Seems to now have a retirement plan for ex-military officials
As if their opinion was at all unbiased
A machine shouldn't speak for men
So shut the fuck up you mindless drone!
And you know it's serious
When these same media outfits are spending millions of dollars on a PR campaign
To try to convince you they're fair and balanced
When they're some of the most ignorant, and racist people
Giving that type of mentality a safe haven
We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do
We die in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards!
We don't get weapons contracts, guy!
We don't get cheap labor for our companies, guy!
We are cheap labor, guy!
Turn off the news and read, guy!
Read... read... read...

They are an excellent political band who did say things to make you think about the way the government is working... They did influence people and thoughts, they are not, however, the most influential band.

STOP LYING..YOU CAN'T PLAY ANY RAGE SONG

Rage = very easy to play. Morello is from a guitarist point of view nothing special at all. He usually plays straight pentatonic solos (his riffs = mostly pentatonic as well), and his technical ability is not very good. He can do some ok alternate picking, but that is it. So far he has not proven to be able to play over any complex chord progressions, he has not done any difficult technical stuff or recorded anything that should be a huge challenge for a mediocre guitar player.
He has been quite innovative with the effects though, and he has a unique style, but reproducing Rage's bass or guitar parts is very easy, even for an intermediate guitar or bassplayer.

Debussey does not think Rage themselves even gives a shit about how difficult their songs are..

KISS must have about a zillion 2 chord songs... not like it keeps any of them from making money.

Debussey definitely right about these facts.

tom morello is an outstanding guitar player.he has been ranked as the 26th best guitar player out of a list of 100.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Morello

I truly don't think he's better than Zappa, Johnny Winter, or Bo Didley, so excuse me if I don't really give Rolling Stone's list "THAT" much credit.

That's just my opinion of course.

Rankings such as "Rolling Stone magazine's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" are not based on actual skill.. There are hundreds of thousands of guitarplayers around the world that = 100x better than 99% of the players on that list. You can find them in most conservatories.. Lists such as these are based on popularity and cultural impact, not skill. There are tens of thousands of 14 year old players that can play things Morello could only dream of playing..

Most people would never understand why this is true before they become proficient at the guitar themselves though.. Kurt Cobain is ranked as #12 on the list you quoted. Kurt Cobain could not play guitar at all, he sucked like there is no tomorrow. He made some cool songs though.

Debussey: Correct.

shadow:  He can be your favorite guitarist, that's great.  But debating "26th best player"... that's a popularity contest.  That's fine.  But you don't really believe he's the 26th best player in the world, do ya?  No way to quantify that, and it's obvious there are 10,000 better virtuosos in the world.

Maybe 1 of the players on that list really belong there. If the list was to really meassure the top 100, it would be filled with names most people would never recognize.

John Petrucci is one of the technicaly best guitarists on the list.
Joe Satrianni and Steve Vai are up there as well.  G3 is an amazing band.

A guy named Victor Wooten is an amazing basist on their basist list.  Plays for a band called Bella Fleck and the Flectones.

I like hendrix myself because he was so outside the box. Now i actually like SRV but its hard to really like him ahead of albert king because thats where his style comes from. and i Used to like Vai...he was a monster on the late 80's. Remember him in crossroads.

Debussey is talking shit. Shadow is right. Morello is great. Technically he might not be great, but who cares. He's creative. Might use the pedals a little much, but still done some great stuff.

Title: Re: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE to REUNITE
Post by: 240 is Back on February 06, 2007, 12:27:31 PM
he's creative, he writes some cool music.  he has millions of fans.

but "the greatest" is so subjective.  Aside from technical prowess, you have to compare styles.  Is a top shredder better than a top jazz soloist?  Where do the uber creative ones like Hendrix or Morello come in?
Title: Re: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE to REUNITE
Post by: Bluto on February 06, 2007, 12:32:55 PM
Well I look at it this way - say Metallica is going on a world tour, Kirk decides he's done touring and wants to quit alltogether... now Metallica won't have such a big problem finding a guitarist that can do his stuff live, but after the tour is done and they sit down to record the next album... will that same guitarist be creative enough to come up with the kind of stuff Kirk did, like the solo on "one" ?

Stop and think. Debussey and teh sushant Kapur is using different criteria. From a pure guitarist criteria Morello ain't shit. From a criteria that takes popularity, how the music "fit" into the culture and so fourth, Morello is an awsome musician WITHIN HIS STYLE.

Yes! Do you own "the legendary Oscar Peterson Trio Live at the blue note"? You can get most old jazz records at Emusic.com, and they have a free deal so you can try it out without any expenses.

If you love jazz and classical music, Emusic is a great and cheap service.

The great Joe Pass: He was a friggin master of playing substitute changes.

You are a funny guy Bluto. You ignore the logical construct of a discussion to project your own inadequacy to enjoy the finer and more complicated things in life onto other people via bashing. Science and complexity will always win over the contemporary concept of "cool". Exept for the truth of the universe, dictated by Jake Busey, aka Jesus.

That is exactly what Gary Busey would do when he tries to play insane. But Gary knows better. He is a fine lover of the good things in life.

Mitch would never do that.

Sushant Kapur is just a gobi negro.

Slippy loves a big dick up his ass.

Yaroni is a hottie with a double chin.

The Aliens did some stuff to Debussey.

And real musicians will always win over the top 20 lists.
