I would like to hear feedback on this!
-
Problem here is that thru his many recent irrational rants about race and other topics...
added to his drug use...
and his admitting to "carrying the water" for a party whose beliefs weren't his own...
I'm not sure Rush is that credible at this point.
-
He's ruining whatever is left of his credibility. Global warming has already been recognized by all parties as a major concern. What does rush stand for anyways? Entertainment, nothing more nothing less.
-
RUSH: What you're saying is it's a natural thing that helps keep the Earth's temperatures moderate?
DR. SPENCER: Yeah, that's right. That's right. All the scientists agree with that.
Um, has there EVER been a topic where ALL the scientists agree, in scientific history?
This guest just spoke for ALL SCIENTISTS.
Is this guest credible?

You're right to point out that a consensus of scientist's opinions isn't necessarily conducive to an accurate conclusion. For this reason, we no longer believe the earth to be flat - and I can confirm no sea monsters are blocking our journey across the Atlantic.

Apparently the group for which Dr. Spencer works or has worked has been the beneficiary of Exxon money.

I don't know how accurate that is. I'm just stating what I found when I Googled Roy Spencer.

I'm so shocked that I'm going to need to lay down for a while.

Rush Limbaugh has to be some kind of secret negative propaganda agent for the extreme left in the USA.
Nobody can be that stupid. That gullible.
Because everything he's trying to pull is too easy for the Democrats or the Left-wings to counter.
Bringing some "expert" on, who is discredited by a little Googling?
Limbaugh's is either insane or in the business of trying to swing voters toward the Democratic Party.

LMAO....how is he discredited? Let me get this straight....the left is right because their "experts" say so, but when someone from the right brings in an expert, he's wrong?????

Um the pro global warming expert isn't on the right/left's or ExxonMobil's payroll.

I'm not judging whether he's right or wrong.
All I am saying, he was so easily discredited. It was very easy to find on Google that he was on a payroll by Exxon.
That's just bad research by Rush Limbaugh's team, or rather, zero research.
Let me ask you this: What do you think the chances are that Rush Limbaugh's research team knew about the scientist being on the Exxon payroll?
If they knew how easy it was to find out that information, why would they then put him on the show?
That is a very good question IMO.

My guess is that Rush knew but he simply depends on the credulity of his audience of ditto heads to believe anything he says without question.
My question is why Rush is contradicting the President? Maybe he's working off the old talking points.
From the "Open Letter on the President's Position on Climate Change" released by the White House on Feb 7, 2007
Beginning in June 2001, President Bush has consistently acknowledged climate change is
occurring and humans are contributing to the problem. Consider the following statements by the
President:
“First, we know the surface temperature of the earth is warming…There is a natural
greenhouse effect that contributes to warming…And the National Academy of Sciences
indicates that the increase is due in large part to human activity.” – June 11, 2001
“My Administration is committed to cutting our Nation's greenhouse gas intensity…by
18 percent over the next 10 years. This will set America on a path to slow the growth of
our greenhouse gas emissions and, as science justifies, stop and then reverse the growth
of emissions.” – February 14, 2002
“America is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that will enable us to live our
lives less dependent on oil….they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global
climate change.” – January 23, 2007

So Mr. I you think Bush is wrong about climate change? ;D

Mr. IO - take a break from your "alian" posting and come back to this thread

who gives a shit if global warming is true or not.. some people are just using it for political gain
fact is- we putting shit into our air and it needs to be stoped, how can we not agree on all of that

Because the effects may be minimal, and the economic impact of shutting down industries would see you living in a hut with the rest of the toothless unemployed.

Wow... at least the admission that money is the most important thing is somewhere in there.
-
Wow... at least the admission that money is the most important thing is somewhere in there.
Oh yes, money, which brings me to Al Gore - who is making a fortune from doomsday prophesising. And yet you refuse to demand he drop the money bag and turn the lights off.
Unfortunately, what I meant by my above statement is not that you'll have to stop sleeping with the flat screen TV on. No, no. To stop what some would have you believe is man made global warming, you'll have to stop using power entirely. If this is what you honestly believe is to become of the world, then you will prove you have the courage of your convictions and do exactly that.
Installing low voltage light bulbs is about as effective at stopping the earth from warming as peeing in the ocean is at melting the ice caps.
-

i agree on that,, i should add in the polluton needs to be stoped without taking away our rights and stoping industry.. alternatives-not elimination
-

Unfortunately, if you believe in global warming, you can't have it both ways. To stop this apparent doomsday, you'll have to give up your car and your gas belching ways. That is, unless, you don't actually believe the world is ending.
-
Because the effects may be minimal, and the economic impact of shutting down industries would see you living in a hut with the rest of the toothless unemployed.
this is you making a joke right? Industries come into existence and go out of business all the time. Other than the very very very small group of people who own these assets and control the "energy" market, I seriously doubt that the rest of the people on the planet would even notice or care. Also, if viable alternatives were developed you would see new industries develop. I'm not really sure I get the correlation between oil and being toothless in a hut.
-

Uh, okay then. You'll have no problem pointing out other times in history when entire industries were wiped out overnight based on a scientific theory. But don't worry, no one will 'notice or care' when the fossil fuel derived energy source is turned off. How much of an impact can having no energy have on our lives, anyway?

i dont believe in global warming,, i believe in politics.. i just know there shit in the air and it shouldnt be.. they're trying to scare us into thinking well all die soon unless we vote for al gore cuz he'll clean up the whole world -but hell stil be flying in his jets and wasting energy on his mansions

Take Al Gore out of the equation, do you still not believe in Global Warming? I'm openly critical of Gore on this issue but I still believe in the main issue.
Gore is a blowhard but Global Warming isn't just political spin.

dude, no industry is going to be "wiped out" by "scientific theory".
People are going to keep burning oil (of all kinds) for as long as there are people and oil
the point is to consider the effects as best we can and consider all alternatives/improvements whenever possible
I'd be all for growing fields of hemp or some other kind thing that we could burn in replace of fossil fuels but I don't think that would really help the main issue
obsolete industries?
How about the horse drawn carriage industry?

i dont care about 'global warming' at this point, because its become a political term. i believe in pollution, and it needs to be stoped, i dont think the earth will stop revolving any time soon -like they want us tobelieve, but we need to develope alternative sources

You can't tell the difference between an industry becoming obsolete due to technological advancement and industry being shut down because of doomsday predictions? Okay then.
Everything you said before that I agree with.

I can see that
can you explain to me or even give me one example of an industry being shut down by doomsday predictions
seriously - what do you think would happen if Bush went on TV tomorrow and "shut down" the global oil industry
of course the answer is absolutely fucking nothing
he can't do it nor can anyone
given that, why would anyone not look at the generally accepted cause and effect and vigorously work toward alternatives?

Rush's guest spoke for every scientist on Earth.
I'm not so sure a good scientist would make such giant assumptions.
-
let's just put the global warming/climate change issue aside
I'm sure we can all agree that our global economy is dependent on a resource which we know is finite, will become more scarce and therefore expensive
YES or NO?

No, and I don't want any industry closed down. Try and keep up with my posts.
You can go ahead and try and develop 'alternatives', but if the predictions are correct (and I think they're not even close) then I'll already be living under water by the time you solve this one.
Therefore, the only option is to eradicate burning fossil fuels.
-

No offense but I hope not everyone thinks about this issue the way you do. No one wants us to believe the earth will stop revolving, they want us to believe that change is needed and a good thing.
Small changes can make a big difference if many people participate.
I'm a firm believer that we need an alternative source of energy not so much because fossil fuels are running out but because of what I believe are their negative effects on the environment and because we're too dependent on too few people for those fossil fuels. .
-

It does work and won't require us all "becoming cavemen".
-
Hi, 240. Cooled your reactor yet?
you're funny. you dont like to take positions. you criticize others' positions. but when you are asked outright to explain your stance, you won't do that.
Politicians do that. And people don't trust them because they lack conviction.

like I said before.
Assume I'm stupid and dumb it down a bit
You should be able to summarize your position in a few sentences or a paragraph
tell me what you believe

I don't think you're stupid, so if I haven't spoken to you like you are yet then that is the reason.
My global warming position is that whilst I agree the scientific consensus (which by no means is an accurate one) is that the earth is warming due to human intervention in atmospheric gases. I understand the World's mean temperature has risen around .7 of a degree (Celsius) in the last century; however it has not risen since 1998, which seems to contradict the trend.
I am a sceptic of global warming, but I don't rule it out entirely as a possibility, however I have strong doubts our planet is heating to hell. I do not fear rising sea levels, nor do I believe my backyard will soon be replaced by a desert. I consider reports from both sides of the scientific debate, and I note a large array of global warming doomsayers far overestimating effects that are far outside the realms of possibility.
I do not think you should stop driving your car or watching your TV. I am against the ratification of Kyoto, which has not worked for Europe, as we see their carbon emissions falling nowhere within the given targets. In fact, the US has done more than the nations that have ratified it in decreasing the carbon it pumps into the atmosphere.
Men like Al Gore are hypocrites of the worst kind - he wants to make an entire class live below their means so that he may continue his outrageously lavish carbon-emitting lifestyle. All of this, when he is seemingly convinced the world will end shortly if we do nothing. Add to this his hysterical inaccuracy and you pretty much have your stereotypical global warming prophet. Green is a religion; make no mistakes, except that its believers are far less likely to live by their holy document (an Inconvenient Truth) than your average Christian.
I hope this clears my position up for you, please let me know if you have any ambiguity. Thank you.

I think you and I are in agreement on most things but I discount Al Gore to zero so let's not conflate AG and all the stuff that's attached to him.
With the fact (yes/no?) that our global economy is dependent on a finite resource, should we not be motivated (and also incentivized) to find alternatives not only for our own need but also as an inevitable new emerging industry?
-

Absolutely, I support the development of alternative energy sources so long as they are a pragmatic economical choice. Right now, nuclear energy is the most pragmatic of the available energies.
-
Gore was the second most powerful man on earth for 8 years.
he is one of the top 10 influential people in America today.
He is an oscar winner.
He is the most powerful person, doing the most to help the cause, on the planet right now.
And he would be less effective in this if he rode a bike and lived in a tent.

Totally.

would you agree that it's imperative that we not only conserve the scarce resources we now have while also doing whatever we can to develop alternatives, expecting that someday those alternatives must replace fossil fuels?

Do you believe Al Gore's Oscar win would have given his movie as much coverage as it did - if he had accepted the award via video feed from a hut in a field in Tenn.?
-
Yes I would.
sounds like we're in complete agreement. Like I said before, I discount Al Gore to zero. If he drops dead tomorrow all the same issues still exist. The right wing is masterful at stirring up emotional issues to distract people from the real issues.

Where the hell is Mr. I?

Why are you calling it "doomsday global warming"?
Can't this be an issue without the hyperbole? I've never heard anyone say the world is going to end and I've certainly never talked about Global Warming in those terms.
How can living a cleaner life be a bad thing? If we all made little changes it could have a great benefit. Even something as simple as carpooling is a good thing.
This whole issue has been too politicized.
-

If he actually was willing to set that example? That would have been probably the single biggest moment in TV history. Instead, we had him waddling up the isle in a $10,000 suit to get congrats from Leo.

Surely you've got some source for this claim right?
BTW - according to Wikipedia (not the best source but not the worst either):
The film has grossed over $24 million in the U.S. and over $42 million worldwide as of January 31, 2007, making it the third-highest-grossing documentary in the U.S. to date (after Fahrenheit 9/11 and March of the Penguins).[17]
Al Gore has stated, "Tipper and I are devoting 100 percent of the profits from the book and the movie to a new bipartisan educational campaign to further spread the message about global warming."
-
I'm not really sure but I know it played in regular movie venues in my area
Here's the totals...
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=inconvenienttruth.htm
According to this site: http://www.stjoan.com/er6/inconvenient/inconvenient.htm
"So strong is this impassioned environmental crusader that 100% of the profits from his film and eponymous titled book will go to a non-profit bipartisan effort to support bold action to confront global warming."

Is it? Perhaps you should close your mouth and do some research:

Just one example of how Al Gore acquried that mansion using global warming profits.
That actually means he pays other folk to use less dirty power themselves, or take out the carbon dioxide he pumps out. It’s a bit like paying someone to starve so you can gorge.
But there are at least four problems with such offsets, the first of which is very particular to Gore. And that is Gore buys his offsets through Generation Investment Management, whose chairman is . . . Al Gore.
What’s more, GIM’s business is not to itself remove carbon from the air, but, it says, to “buy high quality companies at attractive prices that will deliver superior long-term investment returns”.

Is this question for me? If so, the answer is that no one man has ever used an entirely hypocritical stance to alienate people from the global warming cause.
His film has been exposed for, at best, exaggerating the truth, and at worst, lying about the effects of 'man made global warming.
-
As a lurker, I would like to implore that you guys please stop owning BRUCE? Not only is he incapable of articulating well, but now you all show that he's randomly spewing crap.
Don't feel like you have any need to provide proof for your claims. You may return to 'lurking' now, as I'd be far too inarticulate to perhaps school you on a few issues. Or would I?

So you can't name one man who has done more to promote awareness of the global warming issue?
I thank you for your answer.
People, bruce and I are in agreement that Al Gore has done more for the cause than any other human being in history.

Not a single site you present discusses how much money he's made... How do you know how much money he's made?
I provide links that talk about him giving money away, you provide links with his name on it.
What research is this? That's not research at all.

Bruce is a truly magnificent man who has shown me the error of my ways in being a follower of the global warming and 9/11 scams. Furthermore, I accept that my web-pages are sub-standard and that I cannot, indeed, see my lower abdominals.
Since you think it's okay to speak on my behalf, I've returned the favour for you.

Uh, okay - you keep telling yourself he hasn't amassed a fortune using scare-tactics. That house he lives in using more power than both of us do in a year in one month has grown itself in some masterful manipulation of Gaia, the spirit of the earth. Also, pretend you didn't see he's the head of a carbon credit business that earns millions taking people's money for eco-sins.

Puhlease... So because you have no proof... I'm delusional...
When it comes to Global Warming and Al Gore then... You're a conspiracy theorist... right?

Did I not just show you his business's website? Which part would you like filled in for you, since you're incapable of independent thought?
For anyone else interested on Gore's profiteering from the global warming scare, read this:
http://billhobbs.com/2007/02/more_on_gore.html (http://billhobbs.com/2007/02/more_on_gore.html)
As one commenter posting here and on other blogs has noted:
Hmmm. The Goracle is chairman and a founding partner of Generation Investment Management LLP, a boutique international investment firm that invests other peoples' money, for a fee, into the stocks of 'green' companies. ... So when Al beats the drum for possible future global warming, he's also drumming up business.
And profiting from hyping the "global warming" crisis.
In a nutshell, Gore consumes large amounts of carbon-based electricity while he trumpets a growing "global warming" crisis that drives up the value of "green" companies like the ones in which he buys carbon offsets invests in their stocks.
A primary rule of good investigative journalism is, "Follow the money." The media - and perhaps the SEC - ought to take a deeper look at Gore, Generation Investment Management and his carbon offset stock purchases.

This appears to be nothing more than an investment group. So What? Alternative energy is going to be big business and he's in a position where he can make money by investing in these companies. Good for him or anyone for that matter who choose to risk capital to make money.
What exactly do you mean when you say "Just one example of how Al Gore acquried that mansion using global warming profits"
How do you know when or how he acquired his mansion and please document the "global warming profits" that were used.
Even if he made all his money from his investment fund I couldn't care less. It's a free market. Go start your own investment fund and join the capitalist global warming gang bang.
btw - I've always thought carbon offsets were BS but I don't see how he's actually making money from them

Uh, right. So you don't actually argue that Al Gore drumming up the global warming scare to engage people in buying carbon offsets from his business is Gore profiting from global warming?

There's nothing hypocritical about investing based on your beliefs. He'd be a hypocrite if he was investing in Exxon.
He's not breaking any laws. Sheesh so I guess if Bill Gates hypes the internet he's only doing it to pump up Microsoft stock?
There's also no issue with investing other peoples money for a fee.

You are indeed a fool. The argument I put forward is that Al Gore is profiteering from the global warming scare.
Do you disagree?
If so, The Cage? I'll make sure you get set straight, if, of course, you're brave enough to face off with me there.

Not really, especially when he was talking about global warming 15 years ago as a Senator so no... I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I'm facing off with you right here dipshit
I'm a fool because I don't believe in your moronic theory?
First of all you've shown me no proof that AG or his group has made any profit. They could just as easily be losing money or breaking even.
Second, I could care less if he's making a profit. I think his actions are consistent with his beliefs.
And just to be clear, NO I don't believe (nor have you shown any proof) that he's interested and promoting this issue solely for the purpose of pumping up his portfolio.

You have insulted a two-term Vice President. Please provide evidence.

Why don't you try refuting some of my points or at least supporting some of your claims with facts rather than just congratulating yourself

I was having dinner with a group of friends - 5 republicans, 5 independents, and 5 worthless unemployed hellbound liberals.
I didn't have time to ask, but I ascertained that they all believed this "Generation IM" is a far left source of misinformation, designed to put Alex Jones into office in 2012.
Furthermore,

You systematically ignore all rebuttals and just keep chirping away saying the same thing
BTW - I see nothing wrong with the philosophy of AG's investment group

I have to go lay in a hammock and watch my Rainbows play today. yes, I'll post 315 times while grading college papers and running a FT business, and yes, I will still deliver good responses.
Rule #1: You can make up anything you want on the web. You can dropout and still be a univ professor if you believe in Clinton values strongly enough.

no suprise there
presenting an argument supported by facts is clearly a challenge for you

No I dont. No, because you'll just say the same things... you'll point me to a website that says he's on a board of investors... You invest too... do you invest in things you DON'T believe in? If he believes that alternative fuels will save the planet, and he invests in THOSE... that's very consistent with what he speaks about.
Now, if he invested in Exxon-Mobile, then I'd have a problem.
Your term "profiteering"... interesting.
prof·it·eer (prŏf'ĭ-tîr') Pronunciation Key
n. One who makes excessive profits on goods in short supply.
That's what oil companies do... Alternative fuels would be designed to be in HIGH supply.

I don't even support Gore on this issue but reading how moronic the dissenting view has been on this thread I think I might have changed my mind.
BTW, 240's point is a good one. If Gore has a positive effect on the way people view Global Warming then it's a very good thing. I may not like the man but I see that point and I agree with it.

No shit. It's funny how Bruce thinks he's implicitly providing evidence about AG being a hypocrite, but 1) his points are not cohesive and 2) he lacks fundamental debating skills, so all he's doing is making himself look like a fool.

Care to share with the rest of us which parts are incoherent? The irony is that you would accuse me of lacking 'fundamental debating skills' and yet your 'argument' contains not one piece of information or evidence.
Oh, and just so you know, providing actual resources for you to take note of is not ‘implicitly’ providing information – which by definition is an oxymoron anyway, as evidence given is by nature explicit.

I'm glad you saw the irony in my statement, as it defines your whole argument. In your mind, you believe you have provided evidence to support your view (insert -> implicit), but none of what's provided is useful for this debate.
