Title: The value of Peanut butter
Post by: dalkiel on March 14, 2007, 02:42:49 AM

Some of you mentioned incorporating peanut butter into your diets  How does it help? Is regular peanut butter like Kraft workable or should it be natural peanut butter?

Thanks in advance

Any peanut butter will do.  Its full of 'healthy' fats, especially good if you're dieting.  If eaten in small amounts it can reduce your cravings for sweet stuff too.

Lots of protein etc, have a couple sandwhiches full of peanut butter, washed down with milk. Bulk-tastic.

I disagree.

Normal peanut butter is full of sugar and most have transfats and softeners added to make them stay smooth.

Only natural peanut butter is good, the rest is crap.

Guess I didnt think it through, although in small amounts it shouldnt matter too much?

Skippy on wheat with all natural boysenberry jam toasted is awesome.

If you do cardio in the morning, you will be able to do 2x as much with better intensity on an empty stomach I have found.

Try it for a couple days.  Everynight has got me fat so I cut it down.

Skippy does have sugar, but, it tastes good too.

Adding a scoop of PB is great to add to your protein shakes, slower absorbtion = fuller longer....

Get the natural where the PB and the oil needs to be stirred together...

The chruncy natural stuff with no salt or sugar added is awsome on any diet, but you ruin it if you put it on carby, sugery bread, I mix it then refrigerate it and eat it straight from the jar.  You can get shredded eating PB, not just for bulk diets.  Just have to watch the amounts cause it is very calorie dense.  When getting fat I have been know to eat a jar a day!  about 3500-4000 cals in a jar

"These results "contradict the conventional wisdom that intake of high-fat foods leads to obesity and heart disease," the Harvard researchers conclude. Consequently, they recommend that everyone who seeks to avoid diabetes replace refined grains or red or processed meats with more nuts and peanut butter.

That's well and good for those lucky souls who don't already have diabetes. But what about those of us who now suffer from it, perhaps because we didn't eat enough nuts and peanut butter when we were younger? "

There is a guy at my gym who is absolutely ripped and he tells me he goes through a large jar of Almond butter each week.   He mixes his protein drinks with almond butter and water.

peanut butter is one of God's greatest creations.

Anybody try a double-decker PB&J as  a snack?   Tastes great, lots of good fats, good source of energy , and kills my sweet-tooth cravings...what more can i ask for?

The idea of PB as a good fat and a lean muscle builder is lost if you eat it on bread or with jelly or "Fluff"  ::).  Too much sugar there, unless you consider getting fat "Bulking".

Everything in moderation.  Eat too much of a good thing and you'll get fat.  Remember,

1g protein = 4 calories
1g carbs = 4 calories
1g fat (good or bad) = 9 calories

2 Tbsp Natural Peanut butter = 200 calories

Too many calories will still make you fat.

One or two slice(s) of bread with peanut-butter can be considered as a whole meal. If you keep that in mind the high nutritional level shouldn't be a problem.

Agree with this 100%  Portion control is key.

I saw a thing of discovery channel the other day on " How its made " the product was peanut butter.  Its filled with trans fats.  Unless you get natural peanut butter or almond butter, But then its so expensive you are better off buying some tuna. If you just want to put on some mass, peanut butter is great, but keep in mind I said mass and not muscle.

Almond butter is more expensive than PB, but natural PB is no more expensive than the processed stuff.

Here is an awsome treat! Take some raw, unblanched almonds and add to natural chunky PB, refrigerated and stired of course.  Just eat a couple spoons of PB then pour some almonds in.  Tons of calories and good fats   ;D

wal mart has this peanut butter and the brand is like natural butter or something...anyways its got 10 grams of protein, 160 calories, omega 3 and 6 fats, 4 grams of fiber, for 2 tablespoons its only like $2.50 a jar, pretty crunchy and way better than other "natural" peanut butter that is oily and has no taste.

How much is a portion?

About 2 table spoons is average, which is about 200cals or so.  I guess a portion size really depends on the person and the caloric intake they require to achive thier goals.

yes PBJ is awesome for bulking.  Its relatively cheap( unless you buy the natural organic stuff ).  Plenty of good fats and protein. I used to eat 4 sandwiches per meal three meals a day.

You can find some good ones for less than $3.00 a jar. Not organic but just ground up peanuts, no sugar and salt or hydrogenation added.  Your basic jiffy super chunk, which by the way is awsome!! has way too much added sugar and salt added.

I have also come to the conclusion that peanut butter is also really the DEVIL, just in another form. WAY too easy to eat too much of that stuff, which I have been doing lately, stuff will make you fat fast!
