there was an interview portion where him, his girlfriend and Ed Pariso are sitting and talking and Branch said when he was younger that he would eat prodigious amounts of food on the day after shows and soon after stuff like a whole large pizza, three entrees at Italian places, five and six pints of ice cream in a day, regular meals plus two double steakburgers from Steak and Shake, he said that he once gained 40 pounds in two days after a show, what do you think?

Yeah happens to alot, I gaiend 50 lbs within 24 hrs, put me in a very bad situation healthwise, it's one of the biggest dangers after diuretics in bodybuilding. After I gorged after the contest, I slept for 14hrs, and they said I was in some crazy dream.

thats crazy and totally unhealthy i think it depends also on how much wieght you lost. i remember my friend told me he gained his 30 something pounds back in a few weeks. me on the other hand it takes took me from june to almost the start of sep. to add back 30 pounds.

i know some guys who have gained over 30lbs in a couple of days after a show..so its no unheard of...i know one guy who claimed 50lbs...

hahahaha, tell me about it, i can't imagine what his drug stack is, he said that he woke up at two in the morning craving a milkshake and no place was open so he went to 7 eleven and got some ice cream and milk and mixed them together and put them in the microwave, hahaha crazy dude.

That's pretty much the road I was on when I was competing. It gets out of hand and you do thigns for the present and you don't think to the future. I went, well I had to go to the hospital after I had gained all of that weight, you could retty much see blood seeping near my tibia, I had terrible shin splints could not walk for more than 10 feet, it was crazy. I was pretty foggy the first 24 hrs after my contest I had overdieted for this show, but workouts were badass, I started back working out after a week.

Total lie!!! I have eaten 6000 calories in one day and actually lost weight the next day.

YES, after my 3rd show I tapered off of everything, and ramped down on the T-3 correcltly, and took 2 mgs of lozol a diuretic that treats high BP and swelling, it was alot better, I also did not gorge and instead focused on rehydrating myself, and resting.

That is a sad condition of neurosis that Branch has exhibited.
It is due to his poor dieting practices. He does not realize that he could have been drinking Milkshakes since day one and could have looked the same or better.

It is dangerous, and unnecessary, I know that now. Go to any bodybuilding show though and you always see a EMT, and at least 1 or 2 competitors collapsing from dehydration, your BP gets so low it's almost a flatline.

you stupid fuck. many bodybuilders have gained back 30lbs in 24 hours after a competition...of course its not all fat. its called WATER!
very unhealthy..but so is the whole bodybuilding lifestyle at elite level.
sad thing is that alot of guys do alot of unenessary stuff...they take everything to far...sure have a big mac after a competition..but dont go overboard..increase the calories gradually so your body can handle it. common sense.
like chick always says: avoid extremes.

I've done 30lbs after a show, mostly water weight though, And it brought me back to my precontest weight. The effects of the dieuretics and sodium loading after the show makes you store water like a dam.
So I guess 40 to 50 on a guy the size of a pro is believable.

Just felt that I sould add that, as I am an exercise physiologist with a minor in nutrition, and I cannot believe the quantity of false information you spill to these kids. I hope they have enough sence to take advice from someone who is a professional in the field instead.

You have a level of maintenance without any activity. Lets use an arbitrary figure of 2700.
What this means, one could eat up to 2700 and be fine and not gain an ouce of weight. Now, add 3300 to that to get the remaining 6000.
3300 calories stored is less than a lb of fat.

No. Obviously not.
Now, to get away with EATING 6000 calories frequently is VERY easy. Energy can Neither be Created nor destroyed so it has to be either stored or used. What we want to do is USE.
So lets say yesterday you ate 6000 calories and 2700 was your caloric threshold. You are now 3300 calories in surplus. The energy has to be used or it will be stored. Clearly a lot will be used with basic metabolic functions and activity, but we want to be sure.
So the next few days, we will drop calories to 2000. 700 under your threshold. By day 5 3500 calories alone will be burned from the deficit alone. You are now in the clear. 3300 calories is now only a memory and not on your body.
Too easy. People fail to see food as what it is, energy. Nothing more.

I follow pretty much the exact things Adonis has talked about in this thread. Calories are king fellas, plain and easy. However I try to take in adequate amounts of nutrients, and a multivitamin. The key here is to supply nutrients that your body needs in the bare bone, precise amounts to do what you need it to do.
A pound of muscle is what, 600 calories. If you ate 100 calories of appropriatley balanced carb/proteing/fat above maintanence, you would put on a pound of muscle a week. Of course you would need to actually stimulate that much muscle for that to happen.
Adonis is also dead on as it applies to dieting. One could eat doghnuts all day and still lose fat. However if the bare minimum protein was not there, they would also lose muscle.

Ernie Taylor said he gained 50lb the week afetr a show, just satying up eating all the junk you haven't been allowed for 12-16 weeks. Of course the lbs of regained water make up a lot of it.

Boxers usually gain 10lbs of weight after weigh in (middle or super middle weights). These guys are not on 1/8 the juice the pro's are, some of them none. I'm sure its fat gain but mostly water gain. Their digestive systems get overloaded, so the sheer weight of the food as well.
