Title: MAN VS WILD BEAST
Post by: alexxx on April 26, 2007, 08:03:54 PM
If you ever had to get into a fight with a lion or a tiger what sort of skills would you need to survive?

This is hypothetical ofcourse. Yes Stark your thread made me think.

I am guessing your speed would need to be very high on the list along with agility, strength and stamina.

How strong would you need to be to defeat one of those creatures?

Or would you rather be a ninja like Bruce Lee?

You would need good eyesight and steady hands for shooting it with a rifle

I'll be super honest with you, and these are things I have learned by working with Animals also Apex in the time I have worked in a zoo in germany.
They Lions Tigers and other big cats totaly outclass us, they are faster harder and know how to do the dirty quick kill.
As long as we have a gun we stand a chance but only you and a big cat? Good luck is what you need.

Now lets assume you don't have a gun on you.

Option 1) Outrun it: read this http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004737.html
Those guys run as fast as 50 mph, so running is not an option.
Option 2) Climb on a tree: Are you kidding me? Those mofos are distant cousins of my housecat. They outclimb you any day  easily.
Option 3) Fight it: lions weigh up to 500+ lbs. plus they are damn good fighters. thats why they are classified as PREDATORS. so guess what? fighting isn't an option either.
Option 4) Lay on the ground calmly and wait for help to arrive or the animal to loose interest in you: This is IMHO by far the most promising approach to handle that kind of situation.... but you never know.

btw: having lived in africa i know that most lions aren't man eaters. which also increases the chances of getting away with option 4, namely not to provoke the animal.

phenomenal lack of intelligence - a ninja like Bruce Lee?  ::)

anyway i think you would need excellent wits about you, i.e. read the situation and establish the level of threat to you. If you can get away with lying on the ground then do so, fact is if it chases you there is nowhere you can go on foot to escape it. Most important thing is luck i guess, which nobody can control

You're not supposed to run from these animals ever. The best thing(if you're unarmed) would be to stand your ground and try to punch and kick the shit out of it if it attacks.

The pics that I put up of me with the animals is from a ranch my friend had in Acton, CA that trained animals for the movies.  They had numerous tigers, lions and a panther.  I feed them a couple times and I gotta say it was some of the scariest times of my life.  The cages were all together and there was a walkway in the middle.  Cages on each side.  I would have a wheelbarrow filled with raw chickens.  When I wold get to the cages ALL the cats would start to yell.  you could literally feel the sound vibration and it was loud.  I would place a chicken under the fence of the cage.  They only thing separating me from a 600 pound tiger would be a fence.  I could feel his breath and see down his throat.  There is no feeling like it.  When you see these cats in person it gives you a whole different perspective.  Not at a zoo where it is 100'+ away.  I mean inches.  You just don't understand how big and powerful these fucking cats are.  They had a male lion that was just unreal.  On all fours it stood my height.  It's paw was easily bigger than my head.  I only got to play with the tigers.  The male cat I guess was too iffy.  The panther too was impressive but you had a sense of "maybe I can kick his ass".  But when it came to the lion or tigers, forget it.  No way.  WHen the bear took me down was the scariest moment I have ever had in my life.  But, I don't think it would have compared if a big cat did it.

That is some good insight Kieth, thanks for sharing. I think a panther would also be a cat you don't want to mess with! Check this out!

One of trainers had me go in the cage with the panther.  These cats are so cool.  When you are close you can see the spots like the jaguar.  Then he had me leave and he came in and stood in the middle.  The cage I would say was about 8' wide x 8' tall x 12' deep.  In the back of the cage was a wooden shed for them to sit on or sleep in.  The cat got on top of the little shed.  He then had a whistle and blew it while taking his hand and sticking it out and turning in place.  The cat then jumped on the fence and literally ran around the inside of the cage on the fence without hitting the ground.  He would jump from each side to the other and ran in a circle on the fence.  It was unreal.  He could leap so far so easy.  It was trick they taught him he said.  The panther looks like a really large house cat with big teeth and long claws

Unreal! The flexibility, coordination and accuracy on those cats is something else!

thta is awesome. yes there really is no escape from these big cats if they want u. that said, since you cant run, the only thing to do is to stand your ground like a true iron warrior, perform a front-double bicep as its running towards you then die with your boots on fighting it tooth and nail with hand-to-hand techniques.

I've told this before on here.  Once one of the tigers got loose.  My friend was working with the Grizzly and was walking him back to the cage.  Apparently the tiger ran towards the bear.  The bear stood up and the tiger jumped at him.  My friend said the grizzly took a swipe at him and the tiger literally spun around and landed 10' away.  The tiger weighed at least 500 pounds.  The grizzly weighed about 650 to 700 lbs.  This same grizzly is also the one I was begging to play with all the time until my other friend lifted up his shirt and showed the scar he got from the grizzly when the took him in his mouth and shook him around like a rag doll.  My friend was skinny less than 200 lbs and was 6'6".  He got something like 600 stitches in him.  Looked like a shark bite.  It was then that I decided to play with the black bear who still attacked me.  The weird thing is that I used to go and play with the animals all the time.  Not jst once.  I figured they would be used to me by now.  But guess not.  But like I said until you are standing and touching and feeling just how big and massive and strong these animals are you have no idea.  Just amazing.

And of all the animals this elephant scared me the most (until the bear thing).  The strength of this guy was unmeasurable.  Super strong.  This pic the girl trainer took.  I was playing with the trunk and blowing in it and then the elephant put it around me and was dragging me into his mouth.  I said to the girl hey it won't let me go and she said it likes me and don't try to fight it will just get mad.  Holy fuck!  SO it ended up sticking my head in its mouth.  I remember the first time riding they told me to grab its ear and put my right foot on it front left leg.  I said no way I will tear it ear off.  I was about 320.  They said no problem.  So I did it and oh my fucking god this thing thru its head back and I went literally airborne onto its back.  It was unreal.  I remember I had on shorts and was getting on a plane back to Hawaii in a few hours.  When I got on the plane my legs were all red on the inside and hurting bad.  The back of the elephant is so rough and the hair is so hard.  Anyway, the elephants strength is just awesome.

In the old day, until the government in Kenya made in illegal, the Masai men had to kill a lion with only a spear, to prove their manhood.

You reminded me of something.  Of all these bad ass cats and bears around my friend said he was the most scared of the Rottweiler.  I saw it once.  It was a fully trained attack dog.  At literally a spoken word he would attack to kill.  And it was a big fucking dog.  You just joogled my mind to that.

yeah those fuckers you could try and fight but their jaws would break anything they bit into

only reason im scared of such big cats and bears is because im inquisitive (not to a point of stupidity) and that they are unpredictable .. sweet story tho Keith.

Yes big cats are very unpredictable.  You can see it when you look at them.  In fact the one big male lion they had was so scary.  He was literally my height on all fours which makes him about 8'+ when standing fully erect.  His paw was easily the size of my head.  I told this before but one of the trainers had me pet the lion through the cage.  The lion starts to purr, so I did too.  It was unreal.  I was right up against the fence close enough to kiss this huge lion and petting his face through the fence.  It was cool.  Then he tells me to turn around with my back towards the fence.  So I did it.  Well instantaneously the lion jumps on the fence and I fall forward and he is standing there yelling at me.  I swear to fucking god if the fence wasn't there I'd be dead from a heart attack at the least.  That was scary.

Another story (short) I decided to take my two daughters to the ranch.  They asked me a zillion times and I said no and my friends who are the trainers said no.  Just to risky.  Well this day they decided to let them come but they weren't allowed to touch or pet the animals just look at them.  So we are walking along the lion cage which is really big  It is a different cage than the other one.  This one is open with a tall fence around it and allot of trees and stuff.  So we are walking and they told my daughters not to look the cat in the eye.  Well my youngest and dumbest daughter didn't understand what that meant and  as the lions was walking along the fence with us she stopped and literally just stood there looking at the cat.  I mean less than a couple seconds and the cat went crazy like it wanted to eat everyone.  Very scary moment too.

Same day they were training a new grizzly inside an electrical pen.  It is just a small area that they put up this wire that is electrical.  It is to teach the grizzly not to go past it or near it.  During filming they always use this around the cameras and stuff just in case the bear goes crazy.  Well I asked to feed it   and apple.  The wires went up to about 5' off the ground.  Now this grizzly was about 7' tall not really big.  So I have the apple and was sticking it out so he could grab it with his mouth and I guess he slipped or whatever into the fence.  We all went backwards very fast and he got shocked and fell back and the trainer then grabbed him really quick.  It was a little hairy.

Same trip they had a baby grizzly and a full grown german shepard that lived together in an old trailer.  They let them out and for over an hour these two were having so much fun.  they would not stop.  It was so fun watching them play.  My kids loved that.  I have ics somewhere of this shit but who knows.  They may be in LA.  This pic is of me playing with one of the black bear cubs.  It is no stop action with these guys.  A great cardio workout.

There were two cubs, Fred and Wilma
