Hey guys just interested, I know it is hard to judge a man's intelligence by his Job or posts ;) but of the top of your head... who do you concider pretty intelligent, well spoken, I know Katz was a teacher Arnold was not a dummie and Chick seems like he has quit a brain are there more?
Edit: And don't just post names, I would like to know.

Garrett Downing, definitely.

Chick seems like he has quit a brain
You're kidding, right?
Back before 240 became a pussy he used to make Bob look like a chump almost daily on here. If debating skill (or lack thereof) is an indicator of intelligence (or lack thereof), Bob ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Labrada's an engineer, and also runs a fairly mainstream company.

I know that chick got owned bad on getbig on a large variety of ocasions...but... purly judging by War of the Worlds, his way of talking, the approach he has on life... I say the man is not dumb.
BTW: The owning TA gave him back in the days because he said this one retarded (cannot remember name) Bodybuilder who plans a comeback AFTER he got a kidney from his sister... Chick said NO WAY!!!... that was classic.

To be honest, I don't think Chick is stupid. He's a college grad and has good people skills, and is confident.
However, I think he has a big ego and slight insecurity which manifests itself in an eagerness to prove himself without thinking things through. He makes huge statements to justify/defend flawed positions, without stopping to think about the effects of these statements.
A few days ago, he jumped at the chance to insult Lee Priest by saying 2 of his 3 IFBB wins were "gifts". While it made him look good in the short term to make 5 anonymous people go "LOL" in a forum and reinforced his own self-worth, it cast a huge shadow of doubt on the entire IFBB judging system. If the majority of Lee's wins were "gifts" as the IFBB rep put it - what other IFBB titles were "gifts"? Bob has only spoken on the legitimacy of three IFBB shows (the three Lee did), and in his expert opinion (and official capacity), 66.6% of these show titles were awarded to the wrong man.
That's huge, man. As a fan, I want to believe all shows are judged fairly. I don't want to believe this sport gives 2/3 of titles to the wrong guy. Bob's admission leaves the fans at a loss for what to believe in:

I like Chick. He's good for the sport. It's my own opinion that ANY leader with an indefinite appointment will grow complacent in his duties as relationships solidify. It's my opinion that they should rotate IFBB athlete reps every year. I am sure that Rich jones, with his MBA, could stir the pot a little bit and shake out an Olympia prize money increase that isn't BELOW the inflationary rate. I am sure that a Rick Collins (although not an athlete), could put into place a union system and medical (read: gear) protections, within a year, which would stop guys from getting screwed by the brass and popped by the popo.
It's nothing against Bob, who I think is a good face of bodybuilding and did the right thing with the Titus mess by distancing Craiggers for the sport. But fresh blood is good, and there are a lot of brilliant, experienced, and creative people in the sport who would be able to implement lasting changes given the opportunity.

How about when he claimed you were making racist posts of bb.com? That was a pretty big ooopppsss for him.

How about when he claimed you were making racist posts of bb.com? That was a pretty big ooopppsss for him.
Yes, he did accuse me of that, using an AOL IP address as his ironclad evidence. When I (and others) explained clearly that AOL IPs are proxied and come from a bank, he dismissed his own evidence as hogwash, yet maintained his claim, as I couldn't prove it wasn't me. I then offered to take a polygraph for a $10,000 wager, and he grew mute on the topic. I guess readers can make their own judgment on that one.

Is it a coincidence that of the current guys it's euros like Gunter, Marcus, Milos & GH15 that despite the second language are more articulate and have class?

-Franco Columbu: 1 Doctor of Chiropractic and 1 phony PhD.
-Tom Prince: 1 probably phony MA in English. (Dude can't spell/speak.)
-King Kamali: 1 phony (incomplete?) degree.
-Ronnie Coleman: Graduated from university cum laude, proving that you do not have to be able to speak English to do well in higher education.
-Chick: Genuinely witty.
-Flex Wheeler: Very, very close to being genuinely articulate.
-And Arnold? He possesses a power greater than intelligence:charisma.

I have to disagree. I think his writing in MD sucks (but then again I haven't read an issue of MD in a long time).

Well, witty may be a stretch. If we're talking the typical 18th century wit, then no... but by today's standards, I think he does all right in that department.

So let me get this right...you're accusing me of casting doubt on the entire IFBB udging system? Are you talking about the same system I've been lobbying to have CHANGED for the last 4 years? Boy, I cant get nothing past you....
Your math skills are flawed...I singled out Lee Priest specifically...as I believe in 2 out of the 3 wins, the runner up could just as easily been awarded the title...I didn't say ALL pro shows. I like how you used a specific example to illustrate the results of ALL the pro shows...
My opinion doesn't leave the fans at a loss for anything...they have their own opinion which may or may not be the same as mine. I didn't come up with the current judging system, nor do I judge.

Bob, you love the sport, you're good for the sport, and you're doing a good job. Let me be clear there.
It'sj ust my opinion that rotating athletes rep would allow others with skills and ideas in certain areas to shine in the position. Also, in any longterm appointment, there does become a bit of complacency as you and those you negotiate with share common interests. Bringing in a man like a Collins - who can in no way be bullied like a competitor can - would allow the bodybuilders to let a tough guy kick ass and build the union, without suffering politically.
Bob, you did great lobbying and we saw the judging improvements at the arnold this year. As far as the Priest comment you made - I have only seen you comment on the legitimacy of 3 show outcome - those 3 that Priest won. If you have commented publicly on the legitimacy of other shows, great. I haven't read those posts. I only recall this week you said that 2 of 3 of Priests' wins were gifts, which I found shocking because unlike many out there, I think the best man almost always wins in IFBB shows.
So don't think I'm beating on you, I'm not. You're THE face of BBing not named Cutler/Coleman/Heath/Priest, and you speak on behalf of all IFBB Pros. So of course, your words are going to be scrutinized in this, the most influential forum in bodybuilding. You're doing a great job, but it's just one fat man's opinion that rotating out IFBB rep would get more sweeping changes done and more importantly, that raise in price money greater than the inflationary rate. that's all. peace.

The positive comments are appreciated...
If there are people that think they can bring more to the table than I have, then I encourage them to run for the position next time it's up for election...it's not a lifetime appt.
As for the prize money...Ive successfully gotten the back end of the purse increased from zero to + $4,000...I would say thats a pretty substancial increase over and above the inflation rate. I thought it was more important to make sure everyone got a piece of the pie instead of just giving more money to those allready cashing in...

That would be a good idea. However it seems athlete disinterest is so high, and attendance at the meetings is so low, that this would be ineffective. I don't know if this atmosphere was deliberately fostered by the powers that be for the very reason of preventing a strong unified athlete presence... or if it's just the nature of the beast in a sport that is so inherently selfish.

It's a substantial increase for the bottom guys, sure. But goatboy demonstrated the specifics (I can dig them up if you want). From 04 to 05, then 05 to 06, the yearly inflationary rate increased more than the Olympia winnings. In other words, the value of an 2004 check was LESS than a 2006 check, even though the amount is higher, because cost of living has increased by a higher % than the prize money has.
So while 0 to 4000 was terrific, there is now a very clear need to at the very least, raise that $4000 to $4,120 this year, given an estimated 3% inlationary rate (I am sure you coudl adjust it to meet the actual rates). Every year, the prize monies should be raised to meet the inflationary rates, just as sponsor fees, ticket fees, etc are raised the same. (And this goes for all shows, not just the O). I am sure that ticket prices don't remain fixed at 1995 prices - neither should prize checks.

From that Wikipedia entry: "Coleman graduated Cum Laude from Grambling State University (GSU) in 1989 with a degree in accounting. While attending Coleman also played football with the GSU Tigers under famous coach Eddie Robinson. After graduation, Coleman became a police officer."

Yeah, Debussey read that, but still can not believe the cum laude part, unless the roids had some serious stupification effect on that big hairy monkey.

Bob sounds smarter when he is near a phone and can call Manion or someone at Weider for the answers. He is funny though. I like his comment where he says being the Athletes Rep is not a lifetime position and anyone can run against him at the next election. I hope bodybuilding.com does a free webcast of that debate. Now that would be awesome to see.

Intelligence is an encompassing term, and I would say it encompasses both academic intelligence expressed in terms of IQ, as well as practical intelligence in dealing with people (EQ), and the ability to adapt and overcome a variety of challenges you will see in the real world from day to day. There are many schools of thought on exactly what intelligence is and its definition varies slightly depending on the source, but it is generally accepted that intelligence isn't strictly defined in terms of one or two qualities but is rather something multifaceted which can be examined from a variety of angles.
There are definitely some smart pros out there - Lee Labrada for example. He is an engineer by trade from what I read.
Rich Gaspari was also very academic and read about nutrition in great detail regularly and spent two years in college studying the subject. His ability to analyze himself in terms of his response to nutrition in very specific and documented ways was proof that he used the actual science of nutrition to his advantage and actually understood it beyond simply a surface level. If you read some of the Gaspari ads, you will see that he also understands the clinical trials of his supplements quite well. Even as a very experienced reader of scientific literature, I find some clinical studies to be challenging to read. Let's not forget that Gaspari's ability to found a nutrition company is something he deserves credit for as it proves his practical ability in the business world.
Milos Sarcev is one smart cookie. He seems to be highly intellectual and has a deep understanding of physiology and human dynamics as they relate to bodybuilding. I suspect I could talk to Milos for hours on topics of nutrition or training and he could give me very detailed and accurate information.
Mark Dugdale is smart both in the way that he articulates himself and how he manages his own very successful company.
Shawn and Bob both present themselves very well and also articulate themselves well, but I'm not sure if they are just really good speakers or if they are very intelligent. Shawn is smart for quitting gear cold turkey and actually moving on in life. That was an intelligent life choice. Bob was smart to focus on bodybuilding.com and move away from competition. That was also an intelligent decision. Gunter is another pro who articulates himself well, but be weary and do not be swayed by the looks of anyone in assessing intelligence - looks do not always correlate well with intellect.
This list is far from complete. However, sad to say, it is easier to compose a list of the smartest pros than the dumbest pros. I hate to admit it, but the stereotype of bodybuilders not being so bright appears to be an accurate one to me.
It makes me wonder if the neurological input required for muscles to perform optimally for growth somehow hinders brain functioning in other areas. Just a thought. :) Occam's razor - more than likely, those building muscle in the gym, on the average, are making up for something they are lacking elsewhere, so you will simply find more less than brilliant people taking up bodybuilding to begin with.

I have always been suspicious of TP's supposed master's degree. His writing is abysmal, for example... Any idea where he got his degree from?
Seminary requires the cultivation of habits of mind that are rare indeed--need to be smart.

I don't agree that Ronnie is necessarily unintelligent. While this is a distict possibility, I think people base their opinion of his intelligence on his speach, which, while is an indicator perhaps, isn't a direct correlation.
There have been many peopel who don't speak well, yet as still highly intelligent. I'm not saying this is the case.....however it is possible.

Any dumb monkey can graduate with a degree.
But Debussey highly doubts that Ronnie graduated "cum laude". Cum Laude = graduating with honors, the lowest of 3 honor distinction. No fucking way Ronnie = smart enough to graduate with honors unless he sucked dick or somehow got a few extra points of goodwill from playing football.
