Think whatever you want about his physique, I think he is a great guy

Dave is alright by me. He takes a lot of shit on the boards and has a good sense of humor about it. He deserves more respect than he gets imo.
-
Why listen to Dave Palumbo regarding advice on bodybuilding supplements and hormones? Because, as you can see by looking at him ;D, he has done it all....everything. He knows what works and what does not work. He knows how the body reacts to various chemicals and what amounts to use. Have you ever seen the picture of him where he is running cross country? The guy had little potential (I say that with respect Dave heh) but he is so one with his training and steriod use he made it to the pros. I've listened to him quite a few times on MD No Bull Radio and he is a nice guy. Yeah, he went too far at one point, but if there is anyone who can make the necessary corrections and comeback, it is Dave.

Really?? :o
When exactly are you saying Dave won his pro card?

What is Palumboism or Palumbism ?
Palumboism is a rare, complex disease only seen in the nether ranks of competitive bodybuilders.
The condition is first characterised by the sudden development of an enormous midsection whereby the entire width of the trunk, ribcage and pelvis grows disproportionately whilst the oblique muscles will thicken rapidly and the abdomen will become distended with the patient unable to hold in their stomach.
The condition is further characterised by chronic metamorphasies of the facial and cranial features, culminating in thick folds of dermal tissue round the mouth and thickening of the Levator labii. Mandibular and mental protuberance hypertrophy and overall cranial hyperplasia, accompanied by a dramatic increase in the size of the frontal ridge follows. Premature aging is also common with Palumboism
(http://www.sicktracks.com/images/neanderthal.jpg)
A particularly spectacular symptom used to confirm diagnosis are disproportionally small limbs on the otherwise gigantic upper body. This is first observed in the upper limbs, where the arms seem to remain in a catabolic shrinking state compared to the torso who's internal structures are growing out of control in all directions. The reasons for this are not yet understood. The quadraceps muscles of the legs also seem to be ever shrinking.
Overall a more neanderthal type structure develops:
In advanced Palumboism the outer dermis takes on a crackly brittle look, almost as if the patient has been glazed or varnished like a ceramic souvenier. The color of the skin will become uneven displaying varying hues and shades from grey to bright orange throughout the entire body, whilst the skin may appear weathered and abnormally aged.
There may also be a high level of vascular distension which never seems to go away in the patient, this will often result in veins having a 'worn out' apperance.
Perhaps the most unusual and distressing issue is that the patient seems totally unaware of what is happening to him.
Post mortem examination of patients sometimes reveals large quantities of a foreign oil-like substance in the biceps and anterior deltoid muscle heads.
What causes Palumboism ?
It is not fully known what causes the disease, although it is speculated that a genetic predisposition combined with an over reliance on high and never ending doses of various anabolic drugs accompanied by a gradual 'shut down' or mutation of the patient's own endiginous endocrine system possibly awakening dormant cro-magnonesque genes are causative factors.
Although Palumboism shares some symptoms with Acromegaly it should not be confused due to the additional conditions described above when making a diagnosis.
Treatments
There is no known cure for Palumboism, as long as the patient remains on his drug regimen there is little comfort and the condition will continue to deteriorate.
Promptly discontinuing drug use may halt further development of the condition although it cannot be fully reversed.
Palumboism in women
Although Palumboism can occur in the female sex it is extremely rare for the condition to reach the advanced stages witnessed in men, therefore accurate and prompt diagnosis becomes more difficult.
Whilst it should be noted that female Palumboism must not be directly confused with the seperate condition of virilization which is more commonly encountered, more cases of female Palumboism are being diagnosed and reported everyday.

I know it was 10 years after he started lifting. Which is less than Chic's 16 years hehe. But seriously, if anyone can find the picture of him he is sooooo skinny. It is unbelievable. Going to post some of his better pictures.

Now if he could only apply that intelligence to finding a cure for the disease named for him, he'd win that Nobel prize for sure!

Me & him go to the same gym, he's a nice dude.
-
I know he came here and tried to bash me, but I actually like the guy. He is very nice (most of the time) and he puts on a great guest posing routine with Collette. I just think he had a couple bad days when he was here

If you want a good laugh, Google "Palumboism"... you'll get 10+ pages of results. This thing has made it to every bodybuilding board on the web, several of them in foreign languages! ;D
It NEEDS it's own Wiki article and Urban Dictionary entry.

I agree!!! Dave is one of the nicest, most sincere people in the fitness industry!!

Amazing V-taper.
What kind of sit-ups did he do to get those fantastic abs?

Dave is not a 'good guy'. He used to sell fake GH and RAT POISON to bodybuilders. He is a vile crook that will soon get whats coming to him. [and if the rumours are true, he 'got it' quite a lot in prison ;)]

i think palumbo had better conditioning than dorian
Just LOOK @that hamstring pic above ! craziness !
why isnt palumbo a sought after nutrionest like nicholls yet ??

look 99.9% of people would not want to look like Palumbo does right now, so what's to appreciate?

just what i have heard over the years on the boards...Could care less either way...A person who was known to sell fake growth to HIV patients and also sells rat poison would have no problem telling people he was a doctor one would guess...

David is a smart man, very cool guy!
polumbo took the drugs too far and its obvious his physique was permernently damaged. or else he would have had a future in bodybuilding
-
Whats there to appriciate on Palumbo other then his HUGE HG belly and his inability to ever win a pro card, yet he parades around like he's one of the pro's???

Doom disapproves!

Sure he's a smart guy. If he was so smart he wouldn't have fucked up his body. The guy is a tool.

MAXIMUS PALUMBUS

I know two guys who had their prep done by Palumbo. One was a superheavyweight and one was a welter weight. He gave the same diet to both of the guys. How in the fuck can a superheavyweight diet on the same thing as a welterweight? Well they can't.
The superheavyweight lost 42 pounds in the first month of the diet. He kept telling Palumbo he was losing weight too fast and was told not to worry about it because it was mostly water. I watched the guys strength drop dramatically in one month with his squats going from 600 pounds for 8 reps down to 495 for 6 reps. Palumbo still wouldn't change anything. He was losing muscle fast.
Final results were a stringy, flat physique because Palumbo had him carb up on white rice. One cup to be exact. Yes, one cup of white rice was all the carbs he took in for the whole carb up. Is this guy fucking serious?
I am sure his crap works on some people. Problem is he uses a cookie cutter diet approach.
He is the very last person I would take dieting advice from.

42lbs of water?..........sounds like a legit scientist to me. ::)

im sorry but there are countless pro and top ams that get nutrition/supp advice from him. But ya, he did sell fakes and that costed him alot of respect.

Who are all the countless pros he has helped? I only know of Tony Freeman.
Like I said, I am sure his dieting style works on some people but the person I mentioned above isn't the first one I have heard him fucking up. When you diet, you make adjustments based on how you look. You don't just eat nothing for 16 weeks and throw in one cheat meal a week with no carb up and expect to look awesome. This is basically what he advises.
-
When it comes to competition dieting & supplementation (non-chemical & chemical), very few know better than Dave...
Yes, and it shows. ::)

personally i wouldnt take a guy who sold fake gear and looked like that as my trainer, no matter how much he knows
-
With the average IQ in the US hovering at 98, it's easy to see how moronic sub-98 BBers would follow the advice of a convicted felon who has distorted his own body to epic proportions abusing Oils, GH, AAS, IGF, etc etc etc
Competitive BBers are not considered the sharpest knives in the drawer, nor will they ever be. Thus, "a market" for distorted freaks like Palumbo.
-
I have used a diet very similar to his for a contest prep. I ate a tiny bit more carbs than Dave recomends. Well it works very well and I got in shape very fast and did not lose too much muscle. I agree with what the one guy said though too long on that diet without adjustments will cause you to lose too much weight too fast. and once your body is in high gear like that it is very hard to turn it around quickly. I would say timing is very important with dave's diet.

So he went from ego lifting to less ego lifting. Problem?

Ego lifting? You lost me there. The guy weighed 305 when he started the diet and was very strong till the diet took care of that.
When a persons strength drops that much, it is a good indicator of muscle loss which is exactly what happened.

I agree with you. I use a diet kind of similar too but I make adjustments. I also can't see how someone can start eating basically nothing at the beginning of the diet. Leaves you with less then nothing at the end of the diet and then no carb up. A recipe for disaster.

A long, endlessly debatable theory that lifts like those (600 for 8, 495 for 8, etc) don't build leg muscle like moderate weight/endless reps.

I can agree with that. The guy liked to train heavy though. My point was just how his strength dropped.

Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit on this. It's one of 2 things, either you're lying and just completely made this story up, or 2 your friend who Dave helped out, didn't actually follow Dave's Diet. If you're going to follow this diet you cannot cheat, you have to stay in ketosis, otherwise you're just screwing yourself...and this is out of Dave's control...and no, the set up cheat meal that is put in place on the diet is not what I mean by "cheating."
As far as strength, everyone on every type of diet loses some strength, steroids or not. Further, a lot of people negate the fact that extra water weight helps you to move more weight, and when it starts dropping they freak out.
Last off, it amuses me how many of you will knock this diet and Dave himself...a lot of self-appointed almighty guru's on here. Funny thing though, none of these self-appointed are making one red cent off of any of their advice.

Call bullshit on whatever you want. I witnessed it. He followed the diet exactly as it was laid out.
You said it was one of two things - I am lying or he didn't follow the diet. How about the third thing? This diet doesn't work on everyone which was this case. Do you think it is possible to lose 42 pounds in 1 month and not lose muscle? I doubt it.
Like I said before. This diet may work on some people but not on everyone. A diet needs to be tailored to an individual person and that wasn't done in this case.
One last thing. I am not knocking Dave as a person. I don't know the guy but I am questioning this diet. Bottom line is it doesn't work on everyone.

Your were talking shit on here that you were 4% at 248...you wouldnt be 4% at 225 so why lie? I got smoked in the heavies myself from holding water and not being lean enough but i can admit it. Its bodybuilding, your there to be judged, you dont like it dont compete. You want to meet me, anytime man. I will come right to you. But who the fuck gets an operation before competing and it looks like a flat out abcess? Should be a scar and stichs not a big boil. But hey whatever, glad your operation went ok. I even said you could be a good bb'er and win these shows if you got it right and stop trying to be a super heavy, because your not yet.
Not even shitting on you, just dont make claims like you have, i am certainly not any better then you at bb'ing but im secure in that and can take an opinion and use it.

How do you do your water and sodium the last week?
usuall cut water 3-4 days out, never played with sodium loading to be honest. This show i did try aldactone the night of and i think it hurt me and nothing else. I didnt listen to myself which i should be doing. All the guys i prep have overall wins and first places LOL....i just dont trust myself for myself i guess. I always needs a ton of cardio because i cant use fat burners or t3 since i get heart palps and i think that also flattens me out in the end. I will figure it out one day i hope.

Drop another 10 pounds, dry up and you will look great. Right at the top of the heavyweight class.
Yes I was not 100% I would say 90%, only my 3rd competition, being training for 6 years. Never touch a weight b4 that, but always looking for ways to be better myself on stage and in life

OK, so lets say this story is true, fine, it still doesn't make sense, not if he followed the exact protocol. You are right, every comp diet has to be tweaked to fit the individual, but if this guy ended up like you said, then there were underlying problems. First off, I know you said he was your friend, and we all like to trust our friends, but did you wittiness him eat every meal? Also, if he did in fact lose that much weight, there is no way that on a Dave style diet he lost this much without some other factor coming into play, i.e. DNP, or other rec drugs.
Again you're right, some diets won't work as well for some people, but still, there is a hole in your friends story somewhere. Oh, and one more thing I forgot to mention in my last reply, you said his carb up was only 1cup of rice, that's it. Maybe that's what he ate and maybe that's what he said Dave recommended, but this does not sound like Dave's advice for carbing up at all. To get the answerers, the best way would be to confront the two sources, your friend and Dave.

I know it was 10 years after he started lifting. Which is less than Chic's 16 years hehe. But seriously, if anyone can find the picture of him he is sooooo skinny. It is unbelievable. Going to post some of his better pictures.
he looks like john travolta in this pic hahahaha staying aliveeeeeeeeeee! ;D

He started the diet weighing 310. He weighed in at the Juniors at 236. That is a 74 pound loss in 16 weeks. Impossible not to lose muscle with that kind of loss. He was on quite a bit of fat burning stuff and was doing a ridiculous amount of cardio. This was what Dave told him to do plus he wasn't eating very much. He wasn't on DNP or any other rec. drugs. I asked him what he carbed up on and he said white rice, 1 cup. I guess he was loading on fat most of the time but it didn't work. He did come in shredded but totally flat.
He tried this type of diet a few years ago and the results were the same. Last year he cycled with carbs and looked better. This is why I am saying this diet doesn't work on everyone. He tried versions of it twice and it didn't work either time. I know he followed Daves advice to the letter. He showed me the diet when he got it from Dave and I immediately questioned it and told him he was going to lose a shit load of weight very fast because the calories were too low. This is exactly what happened.

Not dissing you at all but that's not water or thick skin (whatever that means). You just needed more time to get leaner.

i dont take it as a diss at all thanks, i thought the same thing but the calipers said otherwise. I was doing over 1 hour 30 minutes of cardio for weeks and dieted long and hard for 16. Some guys got it some guys dont lol.
