This is hands down the best magazine cover concept ever to hit the shelves. This will without a doubt be the best selling bodybuilding issue of all time.
A few snap shots of the cover, which I had a chance to get this weekend. Props to Peter, Chris and the team at Weider for this incredible concept.

wow...thanks Isaac
Big time praise...Arnold made the covers for sure...as soon as he saw the life size cutouts, he turned on the "actor" and just made the shoot amazing...from our little idea, to what it became because of him.

Can you go back to 1980 and put mentzer's name on the Mr O trophy?
-
I've been banned there once simply because they knew I was with PBW.
But then they reinstated me.... ???

You'd need painkillers too if your trophy was stolen.

I don't think they liked my post.. I thought FLEX was their competition not M&F?

God, that's so sad.
Talk about insecure.....
-
The first one's really good. I wonder how accurate the sizing is. Something tells me the BB version of Arnie should be just a touch larger/taller, but maybe not (he's shrunk since then).
-
would sell better if arnold wasn't wearing clothes with his current look
E

I have the cutouts
I hate you! :(
-
When I saw the cover I was in awe! The shit was so fuckin' great! Muscle & Fitness have outdone themselves with this cover! Way to go! 8)
Now this cover is "fantastic". I haven't seen Arnold strike this pose since...well, 1975. ;D

I'm sure Cara will be happy to clear things up, must be a misunderstanding.

I had stopped bying M&F ever since Arnold left as editor...I was pissed when they did the pole position survey and Dina won and then they switched editors and it never showed...anyway, I couldn't resist the cover yesterday, I can't wait to read the what..30 pages about Arnold...but then it will be no more M&F for me....unless they put Dina on the cover!

why does everyone think everything is "shopped"...
of course we do clean up stuff to the image, bring out saturation etc, but even though Arnold may not be in BB shape or anything, and he did just come off of a broken leg, he still looks awesome for 60, and it's pretty obvious that is really him....if we had photoshopped him we would have done more to him.
Also, Arnold never left as an editor of the mag, he is still very much involved in his columns every month...it was the payment part that changed...he does them for free now just to stay in touch with the BB community.

so what happened to the pole position contest? I have switched to Flex so I kept it in the family...I like the deal on Stephanie from Survivor, would like to have seen more of an article on her..she is in great shape

Pole Position was simply one of the articles that was taken out when the editorial direction shifted back to being more of a training magazine. Pole Position was more of a fluff piece, rather than what M&F was known for, and even though it did feature Dina, a Pro competitor, it was felt that comparing the Fitness/Figure women to exotic dancers wasn't the way to go. M&F tries to portray the women as athletes, but who can still be sexy, rather then blatantly going that route.
The HotBod section where Stephenie was featured is also more now geared towards female athletes/personalities in other sports and fields that have an athletic look to them (but still hot). If you were into M&F Hers, there will be more Stephenie in an upcoming issue.
Glad to hear you didn't go to far, and are a FLEX reader

Isaac,
Great job taking credit for the covers! Can you now copyright a photo of a photo or are you claiming copyright over the covers? Legal minds want to know!

I can't wait to read the what..30 pages about Arnold...
Try 60 pages! 8)
And not only that, this is only part one of a two part "Arnold Special". Stayed tuned for the August issue. :)

looks shopped. arnold looks taller and slimmer than i imagine he is
Taller because he's wearing shoes. Slimmer because he's not a 23 year old Mr. Olympia. Hope this helps. ;D
-
very cool cover... made me buy it ;D
Made me buy two. ;D

Well - this cover(s) are hand done probably one of the best I have seen in any bodybuilding magazine. When we got the magazine at the Colorado Pro, the reaction was simply awesome. Not only from me, but from all around me. The interested was great. It was like five covers on one magazine.
When I walked around the expo with it, many people stopped just to check it out. Not one unflattering comment. All were impresses.
Simply, the creative minds of this type of cover was pretty cool.

No problem, anytime..
Seriously for the people at M&F, this is the type of creativity that the folks want to see ;)

im not gonna buy a mag because of a cover so maybe after 3 threads about it you can talk about the content?

My bad, I thought you were ^^^^^^^^^^^^Isaac Hinds - Lift Studios.com -2007. I guess another Isaac Hinds - Lift Studios.com - 2007 is trying to take copyright to that image. You should sue that guy for impersonating you! ;D
-
Hey Issac,
When is the second Phil Heath DVD coming out?
When will the first one be available for sale on BB.com?
-
Only thing amazing to me w/these covers is that they didn't do like the comic book industry does.Make all the covers w/separate editions so collectors will buy all the issues of each cover thus upping the revenue.

What's up Special Dick? Yes my name is on the PHOTO, considering I snapped the pic and posted it big whoop. Where does that stake claim for the cover creation or concept? Hope you have Jr. Nationals booked, you seem bored and desperately in need of something to do. 8)

Exactly...although I would've bought all of them. ;D
-
They're all cool but this one's weird 'cause modern-day Arnold is holding the pose just like when non-bodybuilders hold a "pretend" BB pose and don't quite know how to place their arms, twist, etc.

Hahahaha...legal meltdown. What exactly is that copyright notice staking claim to? Copyright applies to original works. What is original about taking a photo of someone else's photo? Hahahaha. I'm gonna take photos of all of your photos and stick my name on them and sell them to MuscleHunks.com.
And then I'm gonna challenge you to a steel cage match at the Junior Nattys followed by No-Limit Strip Poker back at my hotel room! Be there, sucka!

He's wearing a suit...

arnold still looks big as an old guy

He's wearing a suit...
Took the words right outta my mouth, Chickster. I'm sure the suit gives him some restrictions.

yeah...wish we'd come up with that :-)
So who came up with the idea?
Was it Arnold? :o Did Arnold come up with it!!?! He's amazing!!

On two occasions for brief spans, M&F offered two versions of covers in the same month, as a market test to see what appeals each would have.
In my region (central Illinois) stores carried only one version, and then a different store carried the other, so that at first I was unaware two versions were available. The true test for customer choice would be to have the two versions on the same mag rack, so that, being aware, a choice would be required from the buyer.

Joe Roark....
Why is it that in "Arnold Schwarzenegger Timeline" [July 1997 & July 2007 Muscle & Fitness issues] when mentioning Arnold's magazine covers, Health & Strength and Muscle Builder are always mentioned, but Albert Busek's Kraft Sport Revue never is? ???
You mention Health & Strength as Arnold's first magazine cover, but I would think this is....

I choose to tear the covers off both and pay the pro rata page price of $0.08 cents per page.

Muscle and Fitness getting much better nowadays!
With the Myth Sergio last month and this month the Oak!
Can't wait to see what they come up with next!

You may indeed be correct, and the reason I did not include the mag you mentioned, is because I was unaware of its coverperson history sequence.
Some of Arnold's early contest details are now coming to [a different] sequence thanks to the efforts of David New who bought the then contemporary mags in Germany, had relevant passages translated, and invigorated the traditional storylines and sequences. It is a confusing, tangled trail, and the final reality of what happened may not yet be known. David plans to further investigate.
Perhaps there is another, earlier Arnold cover appearance than the one you show? I simply do not know, but thank you for the correction.

I believe Kraftsport revue issue 20 (not dated but published Dec '65/Jan '66) was Arnold's first German cover. He wasn't on the cover of issues 1-19. He appeared inside Der Muskelbilder (a Weider publication in Germany) before that (beginning in Spring 1964) but not on the cover. I can't say whether magazines from any other European countries (ex-UK) had him on the cover before that but it seems unlikely. I've been told that there were no Austrian BB magazines during that period.
Arnold made the cover of three more issues of Kraftsport revue (issues 28, 29 and 30) before his first appearance on the cover of H&S on 2nd March 1967.

Shhhhh, your information overload may short circuit Sebastian's alien brain.

Can you go back to 1980 and put mentzer's name on the Mr O trophy?
NOPE!! He wouldn’t have won that show, period (Arnold or no Arnold). I don’t have a problem with Schwarzenegger winning that show. But, if the title were to have gone to someone else, it would have been Chris Dickerson, NOT Mike Mentzer.
Besides, Mentzer couldn’t beat Frank Zane. What makes you think he should have beaten the Oak?

hahahah epic 2yo reply but you're right MCWAY.
Funny coincidence.. I was reading the exact mag that started this thread on the way back...
There's a brutal 6days a week training split from Phil Heath..
