this is true---ive read articles and studies before that say it specifically affects growth

not sure if its only a minuscule amount which doesn't really outway the benefits of being able to train harder

anyone know specifically why and what this does to your body??

It may, but it is obviously not major as many pro's take tons of the stuff.

I highly doubt it will affect growth if you take one once in a while

I do wonder why you would take ibuprofen before a workout since it makes you weaker ?

Yes, recently there have been a couple studies on short term effects on muscle growth with the assumption being that chronic use of NSAIDs would be worse.

The condensed version, is that one of the biggest triggers for muscle growth occurs as a response to inflammation. If you inhibit the inflammation with Advil or aspirin you stop the process that could otherwise result in new muscle tissue down the road.

Damn, I guess I have to take the A out of the ECA stack. It's actually been working very well for me.

250Ben250 that's is one crazy avatar. Is there a version on Youtube I can see in full size. ;D

I wouldnt worry about the A in the ECA, you're probably taking a baby aspirin/low dose as it is (@ 80mg). Its when you're popping 2-3+ a day around your workout that would probably cause some negative effects.

I haven't seen a you tube version, I got the gif off another site. Some dumbass mom wasn't watching her kid and she wandered out onto the dance floor during the chinaman's routine. I can't take credit for the "Finish Her!!!" and "Babality" either, some other creative soul had the Mortal Kombat insight.  ;D

Yeah, I heard/read about this a while back. But as it is, I rarely take anything, no matter how beat up/sore I am anyways. Of course, if you're on drugs it probably won't make much of a difference.......

NSAIDs cause many intestinal problems mainly in the form of gastrointestinal bleeding. Not only do  NSAIDs kill 30,000 people every year due to bleeding ulcers, they can also cause kidney damage which will raise your blood pressure.

Aspirin is good prior to a workout as it thins the blood and allows it to travel into the muscles easier creating a better pump - it also alleviates pain during hard training to failure sessions and can actually improve a workout by a few extra reps.
Never heard of using ibuprofen though - although common sense would say that as a painkiller it would have a similar effect to aspirin for pain tolerance.

It's not the Aspirin that does it but the Magnesium in the Aspirin.

True - that would make sense as I used to take magnesium on it's own along with zinc and vit c and had some excellent workouts.

They're both NSAIDs and would have the same effect on the signals that cause muscle growth. Aspirin prevents platelets in the blood from sticking together, you're blood flows more easily as a result, ibuprofen doesn't have as much of an effect on platelets but can thin the blood slightly, moreso because of its anti-inflammatory effect.

It's probably something that doesn't warrant too much worry...but since people seem to love obsessing about every minor detail about what can effect growth (except for worrying about eating good and training hard...lol)

I think someone already posted how the inflammation response has much to do with growth, and growth potential.
The omega 6 fatty acid derivitive arachidonic acid is a perfect examplt.  Arachidonic acid is a powerful growth regulator of the body...and it is an 'inflammatory' fatty acid.

I think a few supplements are actually using high dose AA as a means of growth promotion.

Any of the NSAIDs are going to reduce inflammation, which in turn, has the potential to reduce the growth promoting abilities of the inflammation response.
