Canada's economy will continue to grow with the enormous oil wealth potential they got. Potentially one of the richest nations in the world in 10 years.

Canada's economy has been growing thanks to a number of natural resources, only one of which is oil. Plus the country's matured in the last 15-20 years and has one of the most modern infrastructures now as a result of it.

That and the fact that the more moderate Canadian approaches are more appealing given the politics and economy in the US for the last while.

I just have to look at our brotherland in the West, Norway, to see a similar situation.

Sweden's always been ahead economically.

But Norway's got some of the biggest oil resources in the world, and all of it state owned, so a big part of the income from all that oil has been put into enormous "oil funds", that are supposed to be used "sometime in the future".

And the Norwegian people is very wealthy, they rank among the wealthiest nations in the world in fact.

25 years ago... totally different story. :-\

That oil sure meant the world for them.

The only thing that sucks with Canada compared to USA, is the weather.

I couldn't stand living in Canada, if the alternative is to live in a warm nice Cali weather.

Although, the nature up there is supposed to be crazy beautiful. :-\

O, Canada! More Americans Heading North
The Number of Americans Moving to Canada in 2006 Hit a 30-Year High

By MARCUS BARAM
July 31, 2007 —

Blame Canada!

It may seem like a quiet country where not much happens besides ice hockey, curling and beer drinking. But our neighbor to the north is proving to be quite the draw for thousands of disgruntled Americans.

The number of U.S. citizens who moved to Canada last year hit a 30-year high, with a 20 percent increase over the previous year and almost double the number who moved in 2000.

In 2006, 10,942 Americans went to Canada, compared with 9,262 in 2005 and 5,828 in 2000, according to a survey by the Association for Canadian Studies.

Of course, those numbers are still outweighed by the number of Canadians going the other way. Yet, that imbalance is shrinking. Last year, 23,913 Canadians moved to the United States, a significant decrease from 29,930 in 2005.

"There has been a definite increase in the past five years the number hasn't exceeded 10,000 since 1977," says Jack Jedwab, the association's executive director. "During the mid-70s, Canada admitted between 22,000 and 26,000 Americans a year, most of whom were draft dodgers from the Vietnam War."

The current increase appears to be fueled largely by social and political reasons, says Jedwab, based on anecdotal evidence.

"Those who are coming have the highest level of education these aren't people who can't get a job in the states," he says. "They're coming because many of them don't like the politics, the Iraq War and the security situation in the U.S. By comparison, Canada is a tension-free place. People feel safer."

One recent immigrant is Tom Kertes, a 34-year-old labor organizer who moved from Seattle to Toronto in April.

Kertes attributes his motivation to President Bush's opposition to gay marriage, and the tactics employed during the war on terror since 9/11.

"I wanted a country that respected my human rights and the rights of others," he says. "We joked about it after Bush won re-election, but it took us a while to go through the application."

Kertes, who moved with his partner, is happy in his new home. "Canada is a really nice country. My mother is thinking about it. My stepfather has diabetes and has health issues. So, he'd be taken care of for free if he moved up here."

Not that Kertes doesn't get homesick every once in a while. "I have no intention of giving up my citizenship. I have an American flag at home on the wall I didn't have that in Seattle. All of a sudden, I'm a nationalist. On the Fourth of July, I really missed being home."

Jo Davenport, who wrote "The Canadian Way," moved from Atlanta to Nova Scotia in December 2001. She also cites political reasons for her move, saying that she disagreed with the Bush administration's decisions after 9/11.

"Things are totally different here because they care about their people here," she says, explaining that she's only been back home once or twice.

Your shit is doing nothing but stirring up tension between Canadians and Americans.

Your shit is old, and a disaster to every intellectual conversation.

How about trying to evaluate each and every situation instead of being your old usual hateful self?

Your shit only hurt those who tries to make a serious argument against Bush or against certain events in the US administration.

Oh Hedge, you have noooo idea. CRAZY BEAUTIFUL!!!! I was at a truck show out in Fergus this weekend, it wasn't that far removed from the city, but the country-side was soooo beautiful, ...and if you ever get a chance to go out near where OS is... you'd fall in love. A train ride across Canada is some of the prettiest country you ever laid eyes on. The Muskokas are amazing!!! totally amazing! When Kurt Russell was up here shooting, there was some footage that needed to be shot in the Muskokas, ...next thing you know, him and Goldie bought a summer home up there. And if you ever google some shot of Banff, or the Laurentians...

You will fall in love. One of my personally sponsored distributors from the Netherlands just recently flew out here with his wife, and 2 small children. They stayed for a couple months, and they rented a large motor coach, and for 4 weeks, just drove all over the place exploring Toronto, as well as the rest of the country (they got extremely good mileage too, ..but that was to be expected afterall.  ;) )

To make a long story short... he's now exploring his immigration options to permanently move to Canada.

He'll have no trouble either. He's fluent in Dutch, German, French, English, Spanish & Hebrew.
...and if he doesn't want to rely on his network marketing income to assure the government he won't be a burden on the social infrastructure, he's also well educated with advanced degrees, and will have no problem being competitively employable in the IT industry. Infact, he's already checked into job openings that his current employer might have in Canada, so he can simply do a job transfer within the company.

Who in the fcuk would move to Canada?!?!?!!?!? It's cold, damn near a socialist country and the people even talk funny.

It would take me about three seconds to tire of hearing "aboot", "hoose" and "Kraft dinner", LOL! Honestly...... I'm still tired from the last time hearing them.

I have seen a few smoking hot Canadian girls who could probably keep me warm during the winter. But, there are pretty girls all over the place so that's really not an issue.

I'm from Canada; my friend there was just telling me a couple of days ago how sick she is of a maximum of about 4 months of nice weather followed by winter. Weather's something like that in northeastern US cities. The other thing is that Canadians are generally nice but not warm people, a little stiff & smug thanks to easy living yuppy lifestyles & british/french slight hints of stuffiness. Something like being in New England, not quite as severe as Connecticut.

So it's a trade-off; they've been sailing along without a recession & many jobs for many years now while we're under the leadership of idiots in the states, but the weather sucks and there's that typical Canadian aloofness, especially in places with a lot of english descends, like Toronto.

The best places to live would probably be British Columbia because the weather's not as severe and because they have more in common with the states than with the rest of Canada, and Montreal. The problem with Montreal is that besides brutal winters, the city was robbed of it's place as the dominant city in Canada decades ago because of the separatist crap that's led to the relocation of many corporate head offices to Toronto. So there aren't great job opportunities in Montreal relative to Toronto, especially without speaking French. Years of commodity-based growth has resulted in Toronto becoming one of the most modern metropolises on the continent, but is kinda boring despite the size - something like the banality of living in Minneapolis or Boston.

I could never live there, then again i could never live in a lot of American cities either and would choose Toronto over many of them in the cold weather areas.

I got some things for you:

-  Nasty dry dusty and very hot summers

-  Congested 50 Tahoe and Reno 80 everyday and on weekends sometimes

-  Too many freaking people

-  One of the highest crime rates in America.

Sacramento used to be nice about 20 years ago.   :)

I'm not saying you should move to Canada.  But Sacramento is not a very cool place.

You left out one very important thing about Sacto. THERE AINT SHIT TO DO HERE. Thats why I said hour or so (if you avg. 85mph) you got SF and hour half/2 hrs you got Tahoe. Really the only fun thing here in Sactown is Sac State where I go. And to get there I take the fucking 50 in the morning but before that I have to cross down Sunrise Blvd the most congested fucking Blvd in all of CA no doubt. Lucky for me Rugby practice at 4-8PM ensures I have no traffic on the way back. And the 80 is always fucked no matter the time or where you're going. But I dont mind that shit, its a nice place to live.

BTW we got hundred+ degree weather and I dont have a fucking AC in my car bahahaha So I drive with my windows down and my whole left side gets tanned...like negro dark and my right side is never able to match it no matter how long Im out in the sun. I got a fucked up tan all spring and summer.

I've never been to Canada in the winter...always the summer.

But I've never met a Canadian i didn't like.

Vancouver was awesome, Toronto good to.

 ;)

But instead of focusing on Jag.  Perhaps we can discuss why they are moving without turning it into a insult war.

Good call.

I think the most important thing, the major thing that makes the move possible, is that Canadas economy is solid, and it has a very bright future too.

Then all the other parts, such as people being disappointed with the politics of the latest president, and such, it could be triggers.

But unless Canada could offer great opportunities for living and working, it wouldn't be an alternative.

The stuff about Canada being socialist is bullshit. Anyone who can give any kind of evidence of socialism at work in Canada, please do so.

One more thing: Canada has the biggest oil reserves in the world. And Canada has enormous various natural resources.

In all likelihood, Canada will be the "rich frosty neighbor" for USA in the future.

Just like Norwegians are to us Swedes. ;D

So it's a trade-off; they've been sailing along without a recession & many jobs for many years now while we're under the leadership of idiots in the states, but the weather sucks and there's that typical Canadian aloofness, especially in places with a lot of english descends, like Toronto.

...a little? ...slight? Who're you trying to kid? I live here remember? There's nothing slight about it It's more like a lot

-  Too many freaking people

U.S. POPClock Projection:   302,509,719

According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the resident population of the United States, projected to 08/03/07 at 13:50 GMT (EST+5) is
302,509,719

COMPONENT SETTINGS FOR AUGUST 2007
One birth every................... ...............   7 seconds
One death every................... ...............  13 seconds
One international migrant (net) every............  27 seconds
Net gain of one person every................... ..  10 seconds

a population of 302 million and we're talking about 10000 people? more people die daily than flock to canada...sounds like canadians have a bit of a inferiority complex.

Lucky for you, ...it's not a gas pill additive per sé.  :D ( ...ummm,  Additive was the word you abbreviated right?)
It's a combustion chamber treatment, that improves the conditions inside the chamber where the fuel gets burned.

In total 100% agreement. The other night I was talking with some Americans, and one guy used the term embarrassing to describe what was taking place. I was so surprised that he used that term. In my way of thinking, I wouldn't care how embarassing something was. If it was a problem that was a threat to your way of life, fix it. There's plenty of time to be embarrassed later once the problem is solved. In the meantime... solve the problem. (http://www.jaguarenterprises.net/images/em/shrug.gif)

It did make me wonder if alot of the 'circle the wagons' mentality is more about embarrassment than it is belief.

Question for jag, and other canadians:

How does it feel to live in a country who is likely heading for extreme wealth in the next 20 years?

umm... not entirely sure how to answer that in writing without having the ability to relay vocal tones and facial expressions. So often my words and my meanings are misconstrued on here, and I doubt if my sentiments were expressed, this time would be an exception, so I think the less I say about this, the better. Obviously I like it when my country does good, ...but at the same time it feels kind of like... oh I don't know, ...how would you feel if you knew returns on your investment portfolio was about to increase 7000 to 8000%, and everybody knew it, ...while at the same time, your next door neighbours (Bonnie & Clyde) had invested quite heavily in Enron? Your excitement is gonna be tempered with concern for your neighbours ability to keep up with his own house payments, ...and knowing your neighbour as well as you do... well... we'll see what the future has in store for us both.

One thing I'd like to see is that wealth being reflected in people's lives. At one point Alberta was 'the' place to be. Robust economy, plenty of jobs, low housing costs, lots of opportunity. It was so prosperous, that Ralph Klein didn't know what to do with all the money, ...so he gave it back to Albertans. They were known as Prosperity bucks. Every man, woman, child etc., in the province got a cheque. Use to be guys would go out west, easily get a job at 6 figures a year, buy a home with a few acres of land for $100 - $200 K ( a home which in Toronto would easily be in the 7 figures). Nowadays the market is so overpriced, people can't buy homes, ...and those that can or do, ...are about to see the bottom fall out. There's alot of wealth in Alberta, ...specifically oil wealth, ...but at the same time, they have some of the highest fuel prices in the country.

Iraq's oil boom isn't delayed, it's relocated to Canada
As Baghdad burns, destabilising the entire region and sending the price of oil soaring, Calgary booms

Naomi Klein
Friday June 1, 2007
The Guardian

The invasion of Iraq has set off what could be the largest oil boom in history. All the signs are there: multinationals free to gobble up national firms at will, ship unlimited profits home, enjoy leisurely "tax holidays", and pay a laughable 1% in royalties to the government.

This isn't the boom in Iraq sparked by the proposed new oil law - that will come later. This boom is already in full swing, and it is happening about as far away from the carnage in Baghdad as you can get, in the wilds of northern Alberta. For four years now, Alberta and Iraq have been connected to each other through a kind of invisible seesaw: as Baghdad burns, destabilising the entire region and sending oil prices soaring, Calgary booms.

Here is how chaos in Iraq unleashed what the Financial Times recently called "North America's biggest resources boom since the Klondike gold rush". Albertans have always known that in the northern part of their province there are vast deposits of bitumen - black, tarlike goo that is mixed up with sand, clay, water and oil. There are approximately 2.5 trillion barrels of the stuff, the largest hydrocarbon deposits in the world.

It is possible to turn Alberta's crud into crude, but it's awfully hard. One method is to mine it in vast open pits: first, forests are clear-cut, then topsoil scraped away. Next, huge machines dig out the black goop and load it into the largest dump trucks in the world (two stories high, a single wheel costs $100,000). The tar is diluted with water and solvents in giant vats, which spin it around until the oil rises to the top, while the massive tailings are dumped in ponds larger than the region's natural lakes. Another method is to separate the oil where it is: large drill-pipes push steam deep underground, which melts the tar, while another pipe sucks it out and transports it through several more stages of refining, much of it powered by natural gas.

Both techniques are costly: between $18 and $23 per barrel, just in expenses. Until quite recently, that made no economic sense. In the mid-80s, oil sold for $20 a barrel; in 1998-99, it was down to $12 a barrel. The major international players had no intention of paying more to get the oil than they could sell it for, which is why, when global oil reserves were calculated, the tar sands weren't even factored in. Everyone but a few heavily subsidised Canadian companies knew that the tar was staying put.

Then came the US invasion of Iraq. In March 2003, the price of oil reached $35 a barrel, raising the prospect of making a profit from the tar sands (the industry calls them "oil sands"). That year, the US Energy Information Administration "discovered" oil in the tar sands. It announced that Alberta - previously thought to have only 5bn barrels of oil - was actually sitting on at least 174bn "economically recoverable" barrels. The next year, Canada overtook Saudi Arabia as the leading provider of foreign oil to the US.

All this has meant that Iraq's oil boom has not been delayed; it has been relocated. All the majors, save BP, have rushed to northern Alberta: ExxonMobil, Chevron and Total, which alone plans to spend $9bn-$14bn. In April, Shell paid $8bn to take full control of its Canadian subsidiary. The town of Fort McMurray, ground zero of the boom, has nowhere to house the tens of thousands of new workers, and one company has built its own airstrip so it can fly in the people it needs.

Seventy-five percent of the oil from the tar sands flows directly to the US, prompting Brian Hall, an energy consultant with Colorado-based IHS, to call the tar sands "America's energy security blanket". There is a certain irony there: the US invaded Iraq at least in part to secure access to its oil. Now, thanks partly to economic blowback from that disastrous decision, it has found the "security" it was looking for right next door.

It has become fashionable to predict that high oil prices will spark a free-market response to climate change, setting off an "explosion of innovation in alternatives", as New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman wrote recently. Alberta puts the lie to that claim. High prices have indeed led to an R&D extravaganza, but it is squarely focused on figuring out how to get the dirtiest possible oil out of the hardest-to-reach places. Shell, for instance, is working on a "novel thermal recovery process" - embedding large electric heaters in the deposits and literally cooking the earth.

And that's the Alberta tar sands for you: the industry already contributing to climate change more than any other is frantically turning up the heat. The process of refining bitumen emits three to four times the greenhouse gases produced by extracting oil from traditional wells, making the tar sands the largest single contributor to Canada's growth in greenhouse gas emissions. The $100bn in projected investments from the tar sands have also turned Canada into a global climate renegade.

That money is the primary reason why, at next week's G8 summit in Heiligendamm, my country's oil-friendly prime minister, Stephen Harper, will join George Bush in opposing all serious attempts to cap or reduce greenhouse gases. Back at home, his government fully supports the oil industry's plans to more than triple tar sands production by 2020, with no end in sight. If prices stay high, it will soon become profitable to extract an additional 141bn barrels from the tar sands, which would place the largest oil reserves in the world in Alberta.

Developing the sands is devouring trees and wildlife - the Pembina Institute, the leading authority on the tar sands' environmental impact, warns that boreal forests covering "an area as large as the state of Florida" risk being levelled. Now it turns out that the main river feeding the industry the massive quantities of water it needs is in jeopardy. Climate scientists say that dropping water levels are the result - fittingly enough - of climate warming.

Contemplating the collective madness in Alberta - a scene even the Financial Times has labelled "some dystopian fantasy" - it strikes me that Canada has ended up with more than Iraq's displaced oil boom. We have its elusive weapons of mass destruction too. They are out near Fort McMurray, in the jet-black goo beneath the earth's crust. And with the help of trucks, pipes, steam and gas, these weapons are being detonated.

******************************

I hope the picture is becoming clearer for more of you. This is why I say that fuel prices are not going down.
High fuel prices are here to stay, ...what we're seeing now, is simply a primer... getting us used to it. Last night I saw people filling up at 96.7 cents a litre, excited at what they considered to be low gas prices. 18 months ago 96 cents a litre was sending people into a knipfit.  With increased pollution and climate change gasses going into the atmosphere contributing to ground level ozone, ...we have to take action. The use of fossil fuels is not going away... it will only increase... along with the pollution... so what can we do about it?

We can use FFi-MPG-Caps. You can see an animation of how it works by watching this video (http://jme.myffi.biz/hiw) <--click me
It will:

Soon, everyone will be using MPG-Caps to save money on gas, reduce emissions, and make money.

Just imagine that... making money, ...by saving money on something you have to buy everyday,
...and helping the environment at the same time? Getting paid to do the right thing by yourself, and community?

maybe the provincial and federal rates are combined but even that wouldn't yield a rate of 50% (remember these are graduated rates)
