One of the greats of the 90's.. Mr O worthy physique.
-
those are some of the fullest biceps ever
fucking crazy
-
i always liked his build back in the day. guy had great shape and symmetry.
what happened to him? where is he now?
-
Thats real BBing.
-
No gut or gyno and he's got good calves. Wouldn't place in a national show.
-
I have always amired him. I think he would win some shows nowadays. But he decided it wasn't worth it to compete with Dorian. It was Dorian and JP and Dillit and Nasser. When you look awesome why would you want to kill yourself to look like them?
-
One of my faves from the 90's. He never got much press. Look at what the majority of the pros look like compared to Claremont. If Darem Charles can win all of the shows besides the O and the Arnold. Then CC could be easily winning these shows today. Ahhh, The 90's................
-
Him and Ian Harrison were both amazing in the 90's and sorely overlooked.
-
He was a great physique standing on his own but he's actually a relatively small guy anyway - put him next to Dorian or even the smaller more cut physiques like Ray and Wheeler and pales into significance even more. I've seen him guest pose and and he never seemed to display a lot of confidence in himslef.
Still an excellent physique though - if he'd been around 7-8 years before he was, he would have blown most top guys away.

Well buddy let me help u with that assesement : I met Clairmonte in 95 in Romania While guestposing for the European championship. He is aqt least 6' and weighed at the time in offseason 136 kilos...also had a measured arm of 58 cm....his thighs also were absolutely huge. By the way : Dorian would not dwarf him . He came in smaller at shows , smaller than Dorian , because he was not willing to abuse insulin and everything there was to abuse...instead chose to look fantastic.
-
No he is not one of the greats.. just because he has an aesthetically pleasing physique doesn't make him one of the greats.. he's obviously never had the heart to continue competing, and has never put the complete package come game time..
That's just like calling Troy Alves one of the greats of the 2000's..
The greats of the 90's include early on Lee Haney, Vince Taylor, then Dorian, Shawn, Kevin, Flex, Nasser, and later on Ronnie Coleman.. Then below them other guys like Chris Cormier, Mike Francois, Paul Dillet etc...

At least he'll have his liver and kidneys ;D
He was VERY overlooked...his problem was he was soft spoken, never talked trash or even rarely interviewed. I think his last O appearance was in 95, where he was placed 10th behind a soft wheeler and francois!
Awesome physique...smart man though for leaving ;)

I like Charles him and Alq Gurley never got their due respects. I remember on one of the Gran Prix his wife made fun of Fux's wee-wee, and that is the way she put it. And she was hot as well, I believe she was from the Caribbean like he was.
-
I thought Clairmont was from Britain?
-
My goodness. Charles was what bodybuilding was supposed to be. Nobody dare talk shit about his physique. if it wasn't for those lard ass judges, charles could have win a Sandow

This is 299 pounds with 23.1 inch arms or there abouts. Do you believe this? I don't.

that was charles wife

Him and Ian Harrison were both amazing in the 90's and sorely overlooked.
Ian Harrison had a very ugly physique. Muscle shape was bad, proportions were off.
Clairmonte was...okay. Not in the same class with Levrone, Ray, Yates and Wheeler, but not too far behind.
-
he was in the 97 mr olympia. yates was soft spoken and didnt do too many interviews and look where it got him.
lol, yeah the difference between him and Yates was.......about 15iu/day ;D
-
cc looked great - by himself.
he didnt have the size or conditioning to make an impact.
the bigger guys dwarfed him and the guys who were shorter and weighed less outconditioned him.
for those to say, he just didnt want to do insulin or whatever, is a pathetic cop out.
he was most likely using, milos was one of the 1st and look at him.

Sevastase - with all due respect (you squat some good weights man) but with Clairmonte you're way off - I didn't say Clairmonte wasn't good - he was an excellent physique and his condition was second to none - but there were just so many guys at that level better than him. He was competing in bodybuilding during the golden era where he had to beat guys like Dorian, Shawn, Flex, Kevin, Nasser etc. His placings were totally deserved under the circumstances when it came to the Olympia - he was a second or third tier bodybuilder at best during that time. I've seen him in person too and he wasn't as big as you say - he only got up to as high as 250 in the offseason and stayed relatively lean all year round - his arms were no bigger than 21in at best (his best bodypart). Like I say, a great physique, but there are better. I don't think he was overrated at all.
-
He came across reluctantly from the NABBA where he was dominating and had ran out of competition.
how would it look if someone from the NABBA also placed highyl or even won an IFBB show after moving across organisations?
CC was an excellent BB. Another victim of politics and screwed up judging which awards none of the basic BB fundamentals.

translation: wasnt big or conditioned enough.

Yes i was thinking the same thing a while back. CC was just in a era where there were the best of the best. Darrem had nothing on CC. He should have waited a few more years.
-
i always love how people say that so and so was not willing to use insulin ect ect.. as a excuse for the size or condition of a competitor.. NO ONE.. except charles knows what he took and how much.. many of the "most pleasing" physiques are the biggest abusers.. the genetics for great size is just not there..
-
what happened to him? where is he now?
He is a personal trainer in London
-
::)
Are u saying that I'm making it up ? I have also chatted with Sonny Schmidt for 2 hours since I was one of the very few who spoke fluently . He was as big as Doz offseason...and still had a small waist ...By the way ; his thighs were 80 cm in circumference .. so u do the math..
-
translation: wasnt big or conditioned enough.
err no..actually wasnt big enough with GH gut.
and we all love that addition to BB dont we?
-
Charles was part of the ERA when BB'ing was fun, besides the top tier well known (Flex Kev etc etc), there was Charles, Porter, Roland Cziurlock and one of the most overlooked...Aaron Baker
-
Charles had one of my all time favorite physiques. Symmetry and shape to die for.
Carlo
-
that's the kind of healthy looking bber that has no chance of really winning.... like ahmed haider
-
Mr. O - Not even close
Puny tris, no real back. Chest seems flat.
-
Wasn't he like sub 5'6"
-
::) ok kiddo...
Is "Kiddo" a Romanian word like "Chowchescu" ?
-
Had too long of a torso and short insertions for this lats and chest. Great conditioning, great proportion, no weak bodyparts. Genetics is genetics. Heck if you could have taken eight inches off of Mike Matarazzo's torso, he would have been a multiple Olympia winner.

True that. Genetics is infair man.

no, more like "isn't". Sorry you can't see beyond the tip of your "nosery"...
-
no way Charlie was as big as Dorian off season, Charlie was a hobby bodybuilder in dedication in comparison to Dorian, Charlie used to relax during the off season take it easy and play up a bit, cant remeber him being 300 pounds ever, he competed at 110kg, he was a bit like Kevin leverone, sort of grew into the show, but always had sick looking arms, i would say off season he was 120kg and a bit softer he never really monstered out, but just had a classic shape,
-

What ever u say dough boy ;)
-
Sub 5'6"?? No. He was close to if not 6'0".
-
And for the guy who said he weighed max 250 pounds in the offseason, tell me then HOW he was 250 pounds onstage in 1996?
-
Sub 5'6"?? No. He was close to if not 6'0".
You're right he was 6'0' tall
-

You hit the nail on the head. He should have done much better than he did in '93-'95. After that, he declined a bit, but probably because he didn't see the point in pushing his body as far. Why would he? NABA guys have almost always gotten crapped on in the post-'60s IFBB.

Saw Clairemont defeat Wheeler at the 93 British Grand Prix as I was living in that country at the time. He genuinely deserved to win that show. Charles was just that little bit behind some of the other guys in terms of thickness when they were all on and was held back accordingly but should have placed higher on several occasions.

In Spanish GP 93 he won also and i was there 8)

His physique was ideal! Wish there were more like him.
-
charly was allways well over 20st off season, and had a great phys,,, he'd competed for yrs in nabba, so his career was alot longer than some might think
-

X2! In my humble opinion....Charlie displayed a physique that very few could touch....
Clairmonte, Baker and Ray got the shaft more than anyone....These three blokes all had the best physiques in the 90s......the guys today look more like bulls.
-
went to see a local show where he was guest posing ..i think it was 1989 after he'd won the nabba mr.u.
the guy was a freak to see.
massive wheels, piles of muscle all over. those who are saying he didnt have enough mass may be right when compared to , say, dorian- who i saw the following year and didnt look any bigger i must say...but all i can say is how much muscle is enough?
both of them already looked like primed beef ready for slaughter..
