i say no it's never been done, if it has someone post a video, and i mean BARBELL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR, no Smith machine and no partials.
-
kevin levrone in m3.
-
In the video that I saw Kevin did it on a smith machine
-
i have pressed 404.5
but my camera is broken ;)

c'mon, here on getbig we have at least a dozen mass monsters who can do it for reps

Ed Coan reportedly did 400 on one of his tapes, Hoornstra 455x4.

Those people probably enjoy themselves, but those numbers are pathetic.
-
I remember a few years ago some hardcore powerlifter was in Flex saying he did like 365 for a triple.....
HERE YOU GO SF

The last paragraph.....
Learn more about Ed Coan by reading Marty Gallagher's new biography of him, entitled Ed Coan? The Man, The Myth, The Method. Ed also has a series of three training videotapes, detailing the squat, the bench and the deadlift. Watch Coan squat 975, deadlift 901, bench 575, even do a 400 pound behind-the-neck press. Each tape is about 50 minutes long. Both the book and videos can be purchased through Coan Quest, 745 North Torrence Ave., Calumet City, IL 60409. i still haven't seen any proof.

I've pushed some heavy weights for Smith military presses (325lbs) and I've seen maybe a handful of men do the same (or similar.....1 pushed slightly more than me on a Smith) in my years in the gym, but I ain't never seen anyone push 405lbs for behind the necks on a free bar.
-
What about 'hammer strength' ::)
-
kevin levrone in m3.
That was on a smith machine. A barbell is much much harder.
-
im sure one of these cage fighters on Getbig have military pressed 405, just go to the power lifting board-its full of 500+ benchers-all lifetime naturals ;D
-
bump for more lies.
-
How about the Barbarian Brothers? they were strong in this movement ( as well as others )
-
How about the Barbarian Brothers? they were strong in this movement ( as well as others )
nope they never did it.
-
ok so far no go on Levrone, Coan, Hoornstra and Barbarian Brothers, who else wants some punishment?
-
Kazmier?
-
Hasn't onlyme done it?
-
Kazmier?
nope, he standing push pressed 365 or so but no go on the 405 free weight seated BN.
-
Matt Duvall?
-
Matt Duvall?
hahahahahahahaaa, no he claimed 635 for 2 to the front, 405 behind the neck would be a warmup, him and "Joe Onasai" must be training partners. ::) ;D

YES BACK WHEN I WAS 19 AND 20 DID IT ALL THE TIME FOR SHOULDERS BEFORE THEY STARTED TO HURT NOW JUST TO THE FRONT

no offense Lee you're a cool motherfuccker but i've gotta doubt that until i see proof, was it the Smith machine or a free barbell?
-
I bet The Matawan Muscle Machine could!

Go on, say what you really think!

eddie moyzan did it for reps no joke i was there
I saw him do that at Body Dynamics in Bethlehem. 3 or 5 reps if I remember correctly. No one beleives how strong that guy was.

free barbell to the bottom of his ear?
-
free barbell to the bottom of his ear?
Maybe a bit higher. I bought the Jeremy Hoornstra video and he did 455 for 2 to the top of his head. Still pretty impressive as most people would get injured even holding that.

yeah i hear ya but i meant to the bottom of the ear or lower, who knows 455 to the top of the head may mean he could do 405 for a single all the way down.
-
No one has done it raw for full reps.
it would seem next to impossible.
-

NO IT WAS FREE BAR....YOU ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION...BUT YOU ASKED I HAVE NO REASON TO LIE ABOUT CRAP LIKE THIS.....

I know you guys are not fans....but whe Greg Kovacs was younger he use to do that like a fkn piston.......guy moved a ton of iron....
-
isn't there some dude called the "buffet slayer" that did it in the cage starting off the pins at the chin seated? HUGE LIFT! It was in one of those powerlifting clipcollection vids.
-
Seen plenty of strongmen get 500+ on a behind the head push press. It was an early 90's WSM, back when Ver Magnusson and Gary Taylor were competing (in the same comp). As far as seated.....I have never seen anyone go past 315 and cant imagine why you would. Too much strain and, like Lee found out, eventually you will mess your shit up!

that's nothing, Lee was doing it at 19 so that means he must have been doing 315 at 14. ::)

please, most getbiggers are capable of this lift in their offseason. as most are on their precontest diets right now, this lift is not practical. if you havent won a WBBG Mr Olympus contest, maybe you shouldnt post here! Excuse me while I have my 50 Hoffmans liver tabs now.

all these claims and no proof as of yet, somebody on here must have some proof of a legit 405 seated barbell press behind neck.
-
all these claims and no proof as of yet, somebody on here must have some proof of a legit 405 seated barbell press behind neck.
I remember years ago Mike Francois said he routinely worked up to 365 behind the neck with a freebar; although again there is zero proof.
Kovacs was nothing but hype and then fizzled out......I don't by any of his printed lifts.
I think Levrone's 8 plates on the Smith is the closest we're gonna get.

i would believe francois' poundage claims before any other bber.
the guy trained at louie simmonds' gym so you better believe they would have kicked his ass if he made shit up re poundage claims.
the fact that he trained there in the first place whilst competing in bbing just goes how humble the man was. westside guys didn't have much respect at all for bbers back then (do they now?) and they certainly mocked francois, but in the end they respected him for backing his shit up.
mike could easily trained at much more friendly ground like golds or something and had everyone tell him how wonderful he was.
guys like yates and francois are sorely missed from bbing.
-
scott markey took a 405 pounder to the back before.
said it was a real bear of a weight.

bullshit.

It probably has been done by loads of people - the difficult part is finding the videos - I mean FFS the barbarian borthers were doing 365 so there's bound to be dozens of strongmen out there who could do the 405.
Standing is harder than seated IMO, it's just that they've never really incorporated it into the WSM otherwise they would be tons of videos.

The guy may be full of shit, but if anybody is close to 400 seated military, it will be a huge ass powerlifter. I think looking at his other lifts may be a clue as far as his credibility.

The World's Strongest Man
from the Northeast Georgia Tour in
Touring the Backroads of North and South Georgia
The fourth house on the right has a suitably massive monument noting that it was at this house that Paul Anderson (1932-1994), the world's strongest man, was born. When he was five years old, Anderson contracted Bright's disease, a liver ailment which nearly killed him. He recovered and was 180 pounds by the age of 14. He played football in high school and went on to a scholarship to Furman University. It was there that Anderson began lifting weights with his teammates.
It was immediately clear that Anderson was built for weightlifting as he broke University records with his first lifts and within weeks was setting unofficial world records. He resigned his scholarship and returned to Toccoa to train in earnest. He fashioned homemade barbells out of car axles and buckets of cement, setting up a gym in his father's garage. He developed his own theory on weightlifting in that garage, that he should train each muscle group to withstand weights greater than those in competition. Anderson traveled with an American team to Russia in 1955 to compete against that countries top weightlifters in the first athletic competition between the teams since World War II. The Russsian favorite Alexei Medvediev equaled the Olympic record with a 330.5 pound military press. When Anderson took his turn, pressing 402.5 pounds newspapers reported that the Russian audience rose to its feat as one chanting Chudo Prirody meaning "wonder of nature." In the Olympic triathalon the weight lifted in three lifts--military press, snatch, and clean and jerkCare totaled for an aggregate weight lifted. He lifted 1,130 pounds total and broke four world records on that tour.
The following year Anderson traveled to Melbourne, Australia for the 1956 summer Olympic games. Anderson was suffering from a 104-degree fever at the time of the weightlifting competition. The 23-year-old Anderson went toe to toe with Argentina's Humberto Selvetti in a three-hour duel that ended at 3 a.m. Melbourne time with Anderson setting a world record with a 413.5 pound jerk to equal Selvetti's total of 1,102 pounds. Following Olympic rules, the gold medal went to Anderson as the Argentinean weighed 12 pounds more than the 304 pound American. At that time his body measurements were astounding. The five-foot ten-inch Anderson had 34-inch thighs, a 52.5 -inch chest, 23-inch neck and 9-inch thick wrists.
In June of 1957, Anderson made the lift that secured his place in the weightlifting pantheon as the "World’s Strongest Man." He had a table special built, on top he placed a lead-filled safe and parts of junk cars. The total weight was 6,270 pounds. As a crowd looked on, he crawled under the table, tightly gripped a stool and arched his back to lift the table off the floor.
The publicity stunt started Anderson's professional career. He went on the road putting on weightlifting exhibitions to raise money for the Paul Anderson Youth Home he created in Vidalia in 1961. It provides a stable home for homeless teenagers, who live on the grounds while attending the local high school. On graduation, the teenagers go out on their own, often having spent two years at the Youth Home.
In the early 1970s, Anderson was giving as many as 500 speeches a year, lifting weights at each performance, often lifting a table full of large men on his back. With a strong Christian message, Anderson often found himself using his God-given talent to lift weights in churches, where the pulpit had been pushed aside to make room for the weightlifters show and talk. He used the speakers fees to underwrite 70 percent of the Youth Home's budget, with the rest coming in through donations.
Always a take charge leader, Anderson was known for running the youth home his own way, even though he was often on the road with his wife and staff handling the day to day work. When a staff member or supporter would offer changes or suggestions, he would listen and perhaps use their advice. But when pressed to make changes, such as opening the home to more youths at a time, he was fond of saying, "What does it say on that sign down by the road." If someone slow to catch would go so far as to reply, "The Paul Anderson Youth Home," he would reply, "That’s what I thought." He did this so frequently that "Whose name is on the sign" became the slogan that backed up policies at the successful home.

Lee Moran was a validated 617 bench presser. He did it wearing a Hanes Beefy-T and wrestling singlet. He had phenomenal pressing strenght. Lee could not BTN press 405, not even once. Kaz could bench a little more, and even he couldn't do it.
Ted Arcidi and Ken Lain were both legit 700+ benchers and they didn't claim a 405 BNP.
I say no one has done it.
-

Honestly, who do you think you are? You are a nobody that spends all day posting bullshit on a BB board. Dude you have not done one thing in your life in this industry. You posting here is like me posting on a NASA board. You are good for one thing on here and that is laughing at. You gotta be one of the most insecure I have ever witnessed. And I bet 99% of the members of this board agree. You constantly try to put people down to make you feel good about yourself. That is very sad. Dude, man up and do something. you talk too much and have no action.

Squadfather is owned yet again...
Squadfather, You never answered my question jackass, what do you do for a living, and how much do you make?

Wow:http://www.criticalbench.com/behind-neck-press.htm (http://www.criticalbench.com/behind-neck-press.htm)
Ted Arcidi seems to be claiming 400 X 2-3 reps
I'm pretty sure Arcidi had an offical 725 USPF bp.
-
ok so far no go on Levrone, Coan, Hoornstra and Barbarian Brothers, who else wants some punishment?
do you honestly think any one of the guys who could do it needs prove themselves to a slovenly lard-ass such as yourself?
just because you couldnt press 135 behind your neck without it getting caught in the rolls of fat on the back of it doesnt mean others cant.
now, step away from the keyboard and go have another krispy kreme.

I finally realized that if you say it's bullshit then it must be. You have so many credentials and experience and years of lifting you have easily got to be the #1 authority and expert in everything that has to do with lifting and bodybuilding. We are so honored to have someone of your stature and expertise here on Getbig that you quite possibly could be god's gift to weightlifting, bodybuilding, powerlifting, olympic lifting, martial arts, toilet flushing, cock sucking, and ass kissing. I have been directly involved in the gym industry since 1978 and I have in all my travels and experiences never met anyone with so much shit coming out of their mouths I can smell it through my computer. Dude seriously you are Getbig's official "Red-headed stepchild" Keep it up cause me and my neighbors love reading your shit. And if you ever get to a real gym start lifting so at least you can talk with just a slight bit of experience to back you up. Till then, keep babbling it's hilarious.
-
The problem with Arcidi is that most of the time he did a standing version, I remember from photos and written descriptions of the time they were more like a behind the neck push press. I also remember he had elbow problems(calcium build up), I wonder about the range of motion.
I have no proof, but if I had to guess, Ken Patera or G. Taylor might have been able to do it in their prime.
-
I have a guy who is going to be training me starting next month. I have not lifted hard since around August last year. I haven't lifted anything at all in the past 8 months. Maybe one set here and there. I have not trained heavy since around 2001 or 2002. What would you guys do if I could do a seated front press with 315 for 10 reps with at least a full one second stop at the bottom and full extension. I will record it and post it. Now that gives me a challenge. Since I haven't done that in quite awhile. I would do BNP if my shoulders are alright. If I can do the 405 I will give it a shot. But this challenge is to inspire me and give me a goal so I will train harder. This is with free weight and not the smith machine. I will be 49 in december. I just decided to do this right now. I know it's not that big of a feat but for me at my age and the lack of lifting it will be a good start.
-
good luck. go for it. 8)

if i tried 400lbs bnp my shoulder joints would still be at the gym.
i guess people have different shoulder joints than others. i need by stabilizers functioning so i don't even do bnp.

still no proof from you though, post some legitimate proof of you pressing 405 behind the neck and i'll admit i was wrong publicly.

Ive just started doing them seated again and can get 275 to the front bleow my chin for 7 so if i can get back to 315 for a good 10 reps i'll video it also.

Nobody gives a shit if you admit that you are wrong.
That's like a Retard finally admitting that they are not so good at eating spaghetti.
If you want to admit something, how about posting what you do for work and how much money you make?
How about admitting that you lied about the pictures posted, claiming that they were not you.

if you go to the fitshow.tv.com ..i think thats it..... or just type in the fithsow at google ...or theres an archive of all there shows on bb.com and pariuz pudanaswki does it for 2 reps i beleive he lets the bar rest on his traps then presses from there..i think its under like season 2 or soo
-
even if a guy could do 405 BNP, he'd be a moron to do it- I mean I would guarantee that it would lead to an injury eventually

I think we're posting about 405 BNP. Maybe you had this thread confused with another. ::)
-
I mean there are many effective ways to train the delts without engaging in such a risky exercise injury-wise, such as the front presses, dumbbell presses, smith machine presses, hammer presses, machine presses, etc
-
Several years ago i went to a gym in Chicago, i was visiting a relative and went to this gym only the one time. There was a fat guy -probably 5-9 300 pounds at least-and everyone was watching him do front shoulder presses standing-this was a standing mount about shoulder height. He pressed what was probably 380-400 pounds. I saw this. It was impossible to tell if he was a juicer he was so fat.
I think Paul Anderson could definitely do it.
-
pudanawski does it twice a week..225*6 reps 315* 3 reps 375*3 reps405 for like 2....there videos of it....he does it all the time....and doess it all the time

this thread is about SEATED PRESSES BEHIND THE NECK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR, not standing presses, push presses, smith machine presses, dumbbell presses, partial presses, seated presses to the front, Pudz push pressed on his video ands it was impossible to tell how much weight it was, he was using bumper plates.

Hell yeah, Keith. The time is now.

I have a guy who is going to be training me starting next month. I have not lifted hard since around August last year. I haven't lifted anything at all in the past 8 months. Keith i'll tell you what, if you do a LEGITIMATE 405 seated press behind the neck and post a video of it i will start a thread apologizing and conceding that you are the King of the World, deal?
-
Angry Retard Alert...
Someone must have taken away his Jello
this thread is about SEATED PRESSES BEHIND THE NECK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR, not standing presses, push presses, smith machine presses, dumbbell presses, partial presses, seated presses to the front, Pudz push pressed on his video ands it was impossible to tell how much weight it was, he was using bumper plates.

bump.

Squadfather...regarding Kovacs back in the day....what makes you think a man 400+ lbs ( weighed 365 lbs. onstage at Night of Champions dieted down) with 26 inch arms couldnt do press behind necks with 405....You negative a-holes have no idea of the poundages a young Kovacs used REGULARLY..not for singles, but for reps and sets.....guy made big bb'ers (250+) look like fkn kids standing beside him.....

I'm sure the guy was strong, but not "Dugdale" strong. ;)

most of his heavy lifts were done on a smith machine though

THERE IS NO DOUBT ONLYME has done it.
I was just training today and i saw one of the guys at my gym who i know and he is expert in nutrition and bodybuilding not just some fool with great genetics, and he was moving over a few hundred pounds presses pretty easy, im sure he could do 405 pounds no doubt (remember this guy is one of the best bodybuilders ive ever seen and great physique).
behind the neck presses? im not sure anyone would want to move that weight at an elite level of bb where u use alot of weight cos behind the neck can really fuck ur joints.
-
Push press standing, I can see happening, but not a seated clean press, 405 is rediculous weight.

what about the guy at my gym?
he is the best physique i have seen outside of competitive pro's in real life.
he is vet of iron, great body and great strength, but gave up on competing i think, he got sick of it.

well i am not. if u dont want to believe me thats fine.
Him and another guy (who doesnt train anymore at this gym, was shorter but thick as fuck like a lee priest style physique) used to move extreme heavy weights, great genetics, juiced too.
on another level to physique u ever expect to see.
-
I don't honestly think there's aperson out there that can do this from the sound of things. Maybe from the front but that incorporates alot of chest...from behind the next, that's all shoulder girdle and arms! You'd hafta have the arms of MOS to achieve something like that.
-

why a person would do it behind the neck would be even more amazing.

I will ask him LOL.
I dont see him much anymore and i saw him today by chance.
He doesnt seem to be training as hard as he was a few years ago, but i'll find out. he still looked amazing though just not as huge as when he was training with that other dude (who was nasty as fuck, he didnt only have ridiculous size but looked pissed off 100 per cent of the time).

i say no it's never been done, if it has someone post a video, and i mean BARBELL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR, no Smith machine and no partials.
i've seen johnnie morant do it many times back in the 90's at diamond gym in jersey. there were many reputable witness around, such as the legendary BILL GRANT, IFFBB JUDGE/NJ NPC PRES. JOHN KEMPER, IFBB PRO GUY DUCCASSE, amonst others. he used to do it easily!!!!!ask anyone who knew johnnie, how strong he was???

hahahaha dude I can't help but laugh now everytime I read this. It's like a little league pitcher telling Nolan Ryan how to throw a fastball. I gotta give it you though you are consistent. Man you are funny.

Not sure about behind the neck, but i can do 385 to the front for 10.

I did this just the other day, but I had the flu which made it really difficult to clean it from the floor each time. I was video taping it but just when I got done I went to the camera only to find that three lesbians had been getting down and blocking the shot the whole time. SORRY! :P

It is possible, but if you really did that you are one of the strongest men in the world.
I would have to see a video to believe it.
Morant was a HUGE man (still is), but I would have to see him do 405 lbs BTN with free weights to believe it. It believe he could do 4 plates on a Smith.

yeah, many pros could for sure do it on smith- I saw Dennis James handle 4 plates on the smith at gold's a few years back with no problem in prep for the O (I think 03 or 04)- but those were front presses.
I don't think most people do BNP any more to be honest

As a total side....the bnp and pulldowns behind-the-neck are both shown in emg studies to be absolutely horrible movements for your rotators/shoulder complex...no athletic trainers do these movements anymore.

yep plus the range of motion is half then it is to the front..real men shoulder press to the front below the chin for sets of 315.
-
Behind the neck press is old school. Noweadays, we all know how dangerous they are. Stay away!

Go to some local gym and ask somebody to show you. Quite simple. After that you are a bit wiser, and you can honestly say that you have been in a gym...first time in your miserable little life.... ;D

you're still here skinny? go make up some more huge lift stories, hahhaa, you and onlyme would make great training partners, Laurel and hardy, hahahaa.

patera did a press behind neck in military position with 420 pounds 1971 kazmaier pressed in front seated 450 for three reps
-
in MD, Jonnie Jackson claimed that branch had done a set of seated barbell press 405 for 20
after being laughed at on getbig, branch got pissy and responded in MD saying it was done on a smith machine

pretty sure I saw a video of Hugo Girard doing it
I'll try to find it

pbn is a stupid exercise and the only people i've seen press the kind of weights stated here are guys that cheat on the exercise ie barely bring the weight down to the back of their head, never mind neck. even with that they coil and contort their body to such an extent that it ends up looking like a retard lifting weights.
the only lifts i'm interested in are verified power lifts or lifts that i've seen (personally/vid). so far i have not seen a legite one and i'm not losing any sleep over it. as i said, stupid exercise.
