And Raki is Greek, also named tsipouro in the mainland and tsikoudia in Crete...
listen...
Raki is Turkish..... Turks hate Greeks and it's the national drink... I've been to both Greece and Turkey...
OWNAGE:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rak%C4%B1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rak%C4%B1)
Raki (Turkish: rakı IPA: [rakɯ]) is a usually anise-flavored apéritif that is produced by twice distilling either only suma or suma that has been mixed with ethyl alcohol in traditional copper alembics of 5000 lt (1320 US gallon, 1100 UK gallon) volume or less with aniseed.[1] It is similar to several kinds of alcoholic beverages available in the Mediterranean and parts of the Balkans, including pastis, sambuca and ouzo. The general consensus is that all these liqueurs preceded arak, a similar arabic liqueur, but it remains a theory. In the Balkans, however, raki refers to a drink made from distilled pomace, similar to Italian grappa, Bulgarian rakia, Greek ouzo and tsipouro, Cretan tsikoudia, Cypriot zivania and Spanish orujo.[2]
In Turkey, raki is the unofficial 'national drink' and it is traditionally drunk mixed with water; the dilution causes this alcoholic drink to turn a milky-white colour, and possibly because of its colour, this mixture is popularly called aslan sütü or arslan sütü, both literally meaning "lion's milk" (aslan and arslan also mean strong, brave man, hence milk for the brave men).

Woo,first i wanna tell you that we hate turks even more to be honest.Second turks lie about everything and declare that anything greek is turkish. If you ask them they will tell you that the aegean is turkish, the islands are turkish, mousakas is turkish, sirtaki is turkish, parthenon is turkish etc.So it doesnt surprise me that they say raki is turkish BUT it is GREEK.Also only ouzo is mixed with water and from white becomes ice colour.Raki is white, and is served cold in snaps...

And i live here,i know what is whose and the culture.I am not a tourist or visitor...

Athens of course is a short stop for sure.
The Islands if you want to party it up.
-
those were the stops we were looking at doing. i was just wondering if there is anywhere that is not really well known but still very worth while.
-
My father-in-law lives in Athens and has a vacation home in Loutraki; the wife and I may fly over there one of these days. I've heard Loutraki is beautiful (and all of Greece for that matter)

Hi GR, I've been to Crete 3 times.. I love it there.
I've stayed in Malia, Piskopiano and Koutouloufari (sp?). I worked out a few times in the gym on the main strip in Hersonissos. Great island and the people are so welcoming and friendly. I'd like to retire to Greece.. a nice little village like Koutouloufari would be perfect 8)
-
Koutouloufari is very beautiful,so you've trained at flex gym in hersonissos main road, thats nice. But south Crete is even better than the north side.Whoever comes here, certainly comes again...
-
Yeah, that's it Flex Gym!
I'll be sure to check out the south of Crete on my next visit :)

I remember taking the car ferry accrost from Italy. I was struck by all the nice houses on the mediteranian w/ solar pannels.
This was way back in the Mid 80s.
I bet that ocean front is not cheap at all.
Very nice.
And the little hill side homes in Athens. Really cool.
I walked my boot heels right off in Athens. ;D
-
Athens is a lot different now compared to the 80's.Bigger and more beautiful and modern...

It was nice back then. Seem hard to go wrong there really.
I been many places. Athens, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Bangkok, Madrid & Barcelona are among my favorites.
Athens was real cool. So much ancient history just sort of fenced off.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but raki is Turkish, as well as baklava and bourek and much more. Take my word for it, and if you don't want to, then search a little and you will see.

Brutal first post Absolute, where are you from, what is your background to make such statements?
-
It doesn't matter where I am from, but what I said is true. I can't believe you actually think those foods are Greek. They are Turkish and they came to the Balkans from Turkey, during the Ottoman Empire. Just do some research and you will find out. Find the answer in some neutral place, don't ask Greeks or Turks. And if those foods are Greek, how do you explain the fact that they also eat it in Albania, Bulgaria, ex-Yugoslavia (especially the parts that used to be under Turks - Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia...)? How do you explain that? As far as I can remember, those countries used to be a part of the Ottoman Empire, not a part of Greece... LOL :) So, that food came from Turkey, not from Greece.

What does that have to do with food and where it came from? Besides, I know a lot of tourists that prefer Turkey over Greece. And why are you writing "Turkey" in quotation marks? As if it wasn't a real country? You know what, Greeks are too sensitive about their country, they think they're the best and whoever says the opposite they go mad.
P.S. I'm not Turkish.
-

In the time of Troyan war, Turks were not where they are now. Those people that lived there were not Turks at all. They came much later.

You're so ignorant. If you knew anything about history, you would know that. So, basically you're saying that Greeks introduced their cuisine to Turkey during the Troyan war?
1.) Those people WERE NOT Turks back then.
2.) Even if they were, are you saying that Greeks taught them about their food, and then forgot their own food and Turks had to remind them about it thousands of years later? Ridiculous.
3.) If that food is Greek and not Turkish, why does it have Turkish names? Every single name is Turkish, Greeks just adjusted them to their own language.
-

reality check: did you know that Greek language is considered the "mother" of most languages? how many years of "history" does "Turkey" have? couple hundrend maybe compared to thousands of Greek history.
So, get your facts straight fuckin barbarian.

Really nice. That is so typical Greek. To call everyone else barbarians. And when you don't like the truth, you offend the person who said it. THOSE NAMES ARE TURKISH, HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH GREEK LANGUAGE. You didn't have them in the ancient times. They are Turkish. I know you would like to change history and erase those 500 years of Turkish occupation, but you can't. Neither can you erase all the Turkish influences that came to your country. So you better stop trying.

You're still insisting on some "proofs"? Read any history book, that's where you will find proofs. For God's sake! You owned me? You didn't own anyone. You can't even spell it. I know you guys hate Turks, but that's not a reason to deny what is Turkish and call it Greek. Trying to steal Turkish food, how low is that? You're really giving a bad impression about Greece. Any foreigner who reads this will see what kind of people you are. And as I already said, I'm not Turkish, so I don't care.

And youre claiming that Greeks introduced their food to Turks during the Trojan war, which means that those people living there were Turks, and then you say that Turks have only couple hundreds years of history, compared to thousands years of Greek history? Where is the logic there? You change the facts the way it suits you. Your nickname should be Stupid panda, not Fat panda... LOLOLOL :))

look you spastic, read my posts and read yours. and try to keep up.
you are the one claiming the turks were different people not me. i simply pointed out the Greeks took their food to troy, which the Trojans kept. You then threw a meltdown making wild claims with no factual basis in reality.
I then proceeded to point out that you were a fool, and were talking bullshit - which could have been refuted by a simple reference from a historical scholar.
There are thousands of references from historical scholars that prove the Greeks as a civilization were around long before the Trojans/turks.
please refrain from embarrassing yourself further Paris.

I never said that the Turks were different people, I just said they didn't live where they live now during the Trojan war. Have you ever heard about migrations of people? Turks moved to today's Turkey much later.
Also, I have never said that Greece wasn't around long before Turks. Of course Greek history and culture is older than Turkish, but during the Ottoman Empire, the Turks brought a lot of their culture into Greece and now you have a lot of Turkish influences, including the food. And no matter how much you hate Turks, you can't change that.
