Both got a lot of hype, but neither lived up to it. At their respective best who was better? At their worst who is worse?
Both have paltry competitive records

you should take mr magoo under you wing!
-
Kovacs was another great gym bodybuilder and thats about it.
-
Kovacs at his best looks decent. At his worst he looks like a bag of smashed assholes.
-
Greg has a lot of promo and casual pix floating around but his contest pix are few and far between. I guess that says it all. :-[

Federov; he was great at the 2003 Russian GP and fought a tough battle against Coleman and Cutler
At their worst who is worse? I think Kovacs 04 Arnolds showing was among the worst ever on a pro show

From / To:

he looks disgusting in that shot.
-
Kovacs looks like a train wreck, heard his a real nice dude though
-
Yikes! :-[

jesus, is he a burn victim?
-
why does kovac embarrass himself with that body
-
why does kovac embarrass himself with that body
he wanted to be the first person to give birth on a bb stage.
-
When he was at his best, I preferred Kovac's physique, but when he was bad he sank lower than Fedorov. :'(
btw, why are those posing trunks so small? >:(
-
Fedorov (IMO) could have...would have...in a contest better than Kovacs
-

don't insult the smashed assholes like that.
-
Fedorov was hyped way more to win shows even the big O ???
Kovacs was never hyped in regards to actually winning. He was hyped along the lines of biggest or strongest bodybuilder
-
Kovacs just needs some more insulin and gh to fill out; he should hook up with Milos.
-
Federov was not really hyped for his physique but for the fact that he was the first Russian to compete in the Mr Olympia. Afterwards the press left.
Essentially, he had his 10 minutes of fame
Kovacs wasn't a great bodybuilder but a pretty good businessman who was able to promote himself as the ultimate bodybuilder, similar to Vic Richards except without the cult status

No one can promote themselves like you Vince. You are the ultimate bodybuilder/businessman/professional wrestler.
-
Doom disapproves of both. Bah!

Bullshit - Oleg Zhur was first russian at Olympia.
it was 2000 or 2001.

federov tanked because of a torn chest.. kovacs just tanked

Agree
Kovaks was the original big Muscle Tech athlete in the 1990s every one was raging about his strength which was amazing.
I also saw a pic of him next to Nasser and Nasser looked like a midget, he really was massive.
Greg Zulak of Muscle Mag fame was a big fan of him and one of the main reasons he got some much unofficial coverage at that time.
But he does look terrible now.

Doom is incredulous

Zulak did promote Kovacs quite heavily it seemed, but I'm not sure if he truly was a big fan or that it was part of his job considering it was MuscleMag/MuscleTech
;)

Kovacs actually looked pretty great for a couple of shows back in the day. Does anyone have that contest pic of him tensing one bicep with his other arm behind his head, displaying huge, relatively shapely arms and a small waist at that point?!?!?!?
-
Fedorov was way better. If Federov never tore his pec, i feel he would actually place OK at some shows, albeit small ones. Kovacs was ridiculously big, but looked like shit (in the later years) when ever he dieted down. But Kovacs sheer size was incredible. Supposedly weighed 400lbs in the off season.
-
Bear..the pic is from 96 Canada's in which Greg won his pro card....

Apples and oranges. Kovacs has vastly superior genetics for size and strengh than Fedorov - actually, more than anyone else -, but Fedorov has much, much better bodybuilding genetics. I can't believe you people put Kovacs and Federov in the same sentence ??? Fedorov is clearly a vastly superior bodybuilder: he finished third to Ronnie and Jay once, for fuck sake! Conversely, Kovacs tanked at the NOC, one of the minor pro shows. Can you even compare the two as far as bodybuilding goes?
However, even though Kovacs has arguably the worst bodybuilding genetics of all pros, he is an absolute titan when it comes to size and strengh genetics. No Human has ever been close to Kovacs in sheer mass and strengh. Here are Kovacs lifts:
-One arm dumbbell row - 300 lbs dumbbells for 4 reps
- Flat dumbbell press - 300 lbs dumbbell for 6 reps
- Front military barbell press - 440 lbs for 12 reps
- Barbell row 528 lbs for 8 reps.
- Lateral raises - 100 lbs dumbbell for 10 reps.
- T-bar row - 352 lbs for 6 reps.
- Deadlift - 810 lbs for 3.
- Leg press - 2700 lbs for 15 reps.
- Squat - 850 lbs for 2 reps.
Hope this helps! :)

Greg looks bad in those pics because he was trying to please fucksticks like you guys who hyper criticise every micro inch of their bodies.
He was trying to get "shredded", have "striated glutes" get "dry", and I love this one get "crisp". oh brother. ::) crisp is for crackers you morons.
It didnt take him long to learn that pleasing people with delusional expectations created by the overconsumption of morphed digital imagery was too dangerous and he wisely moved on with his life.

Both were hyped, but Greg was hyped to the point where he was actually boasting that he would win the NOC back in the day and then go on to win the Mr.O. At the 2001 NOC he got laughed off the stage. His strength claims turned out to be extremely false as anyone who has seen him train knows he does only smith machines and cables. He didn't even finish the 2003 GNC show, he placed dead last at the 2004 ASC (don't you have to qualify to do that show???) and he placed dead last at the 2004 and 2005 Toronto Pro shows. End of story. End of Kovacs. :-\

Your apologia for Kovacs is, at best, backhanded. He destroys his physique trying to please anonymous fucksticks? Smart. Very smart.
“It didn’t take him long to learn that pleasing people with delusional expectations...” Apparently, it took him longer than it should have. Bah! Your rhetoric is about as compelling as Kovac's physique... which is to say, not very.
Doom disapproves.

He tried it once, tried to give the judges and fans what they want, and it didnt work, because it is bullshit and unhealthy...I am glad he left.
The desire and demand by fans to want competitors on stage at near death conditioning, is borderline immoral

Very true. But at the same time Coleman, Cutler and Ruhl are much more freakier then Kovacs and they're still competing and making good money off the industry.

His body looks like my face. Bah!

No, as soon as you get a gut you start winning. Look at the former and current Mr. Olympia.
