Title: New VIDEOS: Incline DBs 150s/160s
Post by: TooPowerful4u on September 15, 2007, 02:03:56 PM
I NEVER post on here... but figured eh what the heck... few nice lifts caught on tape warrant it....

Not too bad for 5.4% bodyfat (measured this morning 39mm clipped 9 point) low carbs and 6 weeks out eh? Weighing in at 209lbs this AM.  24yrs old. Video cuts off early in both since my cell only takes 15second clips, but the first one is 7 reps, second is 5 (ok 4 with a half rep on 5 plus static hold). Probably could have gotten more, but i NEVER let anyone give me a liftoff on BB or a lift out the bottom on DB's. It fucks with my head, set HAS to be on my own.

150s x 7

160s x 4.5

pretty strong. however, why don't you use full ROM at the bottom of the exercise?

Most experts will disagree with you. Locking out is not necessary, going down all the way is. Try it and see how your pecs change.

Time for the squadfather to verify these lifts.

FWIW I think you're lying about being clean.  But if you're not, then you've got some pretty awesome strength for a 24 year old to be handling weights like that for multiple reps (granted your form isn't the best but who the fucck cares?)

whatever. he's stronger than me, I suppose, but was just pointing out that his form isn't right. All I can use at my strongest is 110 for 6 reps with good form. He's stronger than me, more power to him I suppose, but I always wonder why people use certain form on some exercises

you are completely right there.  full range of motion...it depends on what your goals are.  you were working only chest there, very nice.

Strong guy for sure and a great physique.

But I bet you'd get better results with a full ROM.

Do you do 1/2 squats for quads? 1/2 curls for biceps? If you were to do a barbell bench press you would be stopping 10-12 inches above your chest...

My point is you are not getting the full stretch, and therefore not optimizing training your pectorals.

optimizing the ego is more important for this kind of dudes.

listen to gh15, leave the ego out of the gym for one hour and you will see great results.

those were more than half reps let's be honest, they were about 80 percent of full ROM which is still pretty good, give credit where it's due this is a strong guy for sure.

And il say to you.... MAXAMIZE every lift safely. If i go all the way down for the stretch, i still transfer stress to my delts and rotator (dangerous) and put my pecs in a compromised position waiting for injury.  I get my stretch on my fly movements or my lighter pressing movements (2nd exercise and on).  This was a mass builder, plain and simple....

And ya.. chest sux...

I was JOKING about being clean sheesh.  Show me a clean 24yr old hitting anything close to that at 200lbs and 5%ish bodyfat.  Use your heads, its obvious.  And panda... its none of your business what i use... and it wouldnt do you any good to copy it since 1.  i dont use much 2.  my diet is perfect with a balance of high protein moderate healthy fats (but enough to sustain strength, this is very important..and the right sources) and 3.  you are not me and i am not you so we will respond differently to different stuff... if iv learned anything in the past 5yrs is that DIET is probably 70% while roids are more like 10-15%.  The rest is training and rest. Those who are lazy tend to hold roids in THEIR OWN 50% regards when trying to build a good physique... and its because they never experienced what a long term perfect diet could do for them....

I agree with this......all the talk about full ROM is completely relative.  If you take that heavy rep and stretch way down at the bottom you've transferred stress to the shoulder joints and greatly increase the risk of blowin it out.   Better to shorten the ROM slightly.

And I have dislocated my shoulder doing incline presses with a 90lb db stretching deep at the bottom part of the rep.

full reps you would get no more then 5 reps at 100 lbs

Thats not too impressive, I do 6 sets (4 @ 45 degree angle, and 2 at 30 degree angle) with the 110s at 10 reps a set, and I do not use roids.
so 160s in a juicer is not really impressive...to me at least.  if you were natural, sure, great lifts.

yes half developed chest, just like Johnny O and his half developed chest, Branch Warren and his, yea Ronnie Coleman has NO chest  ::) ..... oh and Arnie's chest stood out so much because it was a genetically gifted bodypart and all the others were weak IN COMPARISON to it... nowadays bodybuilders hold more balance so you dont notice shit like that much..

"Yes, it's heavy weight, but your ROM is incomplete.  If you lightened the weight and got a full stretch you'd better develop your chest."   This always coming from some 175lb guy with a 35" chest that can barely press a watermelon talking to the 240lb guy with the 50" chest who lifts twice as heavy and is twice the size.

Ahh cmon, youv never visited a health club where a 140lb soaking wet trainer has come up to you in front of a client trying to impress them and tries to critique your form and what you are doing wrong and SHOULD be doing for a better physique?  I cant lie... half the time i take the SquadFather technique... but i ALWAYS use the same line...."so if i do it like that, i will look like you?" (then look at his client and smile big and sarcastically) haha... boy do they get mad

6 sets doing 10 reps of 110s (thats all my gym has), i am sure i can do the 120s, maybe 130s for no issue (at least for "4.5 reps").

As a matter of fact, yes I have been in that situation.   A trainer was walking a man and woman around showing them machines and movements and I was incline pressing and I heard him say, "and see him, those are incline presses for upper chest development; although, he should probably bring that bar down to his clavicles for a better stretch."  I stood up and said, "sure, but then I'd look like you and I'd rather not take a step backwards."   Now, I knew the trainer so it was all in fun, but I know what you mean.

No im saying he does the 110s for 10-12 (like you) but probably weighs much less and is lower bodyfat with a better physique.  Just telling you that you are not special for a natural.  BTW... i was pressing 90s for shoulder press (before i hurt my shoulder) at 20yrs old naturally for 8 reps.... thats with 1yr of lifting.  Bite me  ;) :-* oh and i took off 6 months 2yrs ago when i was 22 after a show i was burnt out... came back in to the gym and my 2nd week back hit 110s on incline for an easy 8.  Sorry to burst your bubble... i can do those 6 months clean with no training.... ever have a hurtz doughnut?  say it slowly.... ;)

Im not claiming to be GREAT... just sayin i had a nice lift at a low bodyweight close to a show on low carbs (alot harder than offseason).  There are some naturals who can hang with me or better...but it sure as hell aint you!  Heres one.....

In order to be natural and move this kind of weight, you need to be doing it a long time and pay close attention to EVERY aspect of bodybuilding, from the smallest macronutrient per meal to that extra hour of sleep per night... but if you are dedicated and driven enough (like Layne) it CAN be done

well, shit anyone can do 110s with half reps.

anyway, that does not mean shit, you do 160s and look like you never lifted, and someone like Vince Taylor uses 80 pounds and LOOKS huge.  go figure.

my point: 160s in a juicer is not impressive at all.

if this guy looks like he never lifted you must look like the next coming of Cutler. ::)

appreciate it, but dont pay worm much mind.  I hurt his feelings by pressing something hed never touch even if he did juice, hit the same weight as him when i DONT train or juice, and my training partner owns him at a much lower bodyweight and bodyfat with a better physique..... sometimes reality hurts  ;D

2p4u, did you get a shoulder problem/pain when bringing the elbows below parallel?

did doing them like you do now stop the pain or mearly ease it slightly?

i'm having some real shoulder pain all the time when db pressing, decline seems to be the most painful.

Incident changed my lifting for the better. Last year gettin ready for a show i was doin dips with a 125 DB around my waist x 3 sets 12... problem was i was going chest to the handles (WAY too deep and STUPID).  So anyway, had no idea what it was doing to me, grabbed the 125s first set incline DB figuring it wasnt a problem, lowered them and BAM whole shitload of snapping and crackling sounds.  Dropped them and jumped up FAST.  My shoulder joint and chest swelled up and hurt like HELL and tight for 3 full weeks. I slowly worked back into chest using machines doing half reps.  Then 3/4 reps.   Never could bring the bar or DBs ALL the way down mentally, but low and behold.... got stronger, and for the first time my chest didnt seem so weak looking.  It got thicker and thicker.  Lesson learned by mistake.... but it worked, its been working, and i expect it to continue to work.  I still go deep on some presses' but its always 2nd or 3rd exercise and lighter and higher reps 12+.  Gota stay safe, doesnt do you no good to get hurt.

TPFU

very strong and good control of the bells and, yes, i agree with the poster who said there's a world of difference between 110s and 160s.

i do wonder about the dbs though? i totally agree with your reasoning on the rom and i have mentioned this in other threads. my question is, why dbs? obviously it's not a rom issue (as already pointed out) and if you used that rom with bench press you would be doing the equivalent rom of board presses (granted, much more difficult way you're doing it).

do you use the dbs so the muscles get more work from balancing the weights or is there some other reason?

no diss. as i said, very strong. curious is all. :-\

thanks, it certainly hasn't done you any harm, in size or strength, i will give it a go. your right about it not hurting when its lighter/warmups, just the main sets.

cheers. 8)

I use a LOT of variety, which i learned makes a world of difference, keep the muscle guessing.  I NEVER do the same exercises 2 workouts in a row.  And i wont start a workout with an exercise for maybe 3 workouts.

With the DB's, i still focus on feeling it where it needs to be, on my chest.  As you can see, my reps are WIDER than a lot of DB press' you will see.  That is how i best feel it in my chest.  The harder a muscle has to work on balance, the more fibers are contracted to complete the movement.  Plain and simple.  DBs are best, but again.... use sparingly.  I will be back to DBs in 3 workouts 1.5wks, so if i hit the 160s x 8-10, il give the 180s a shot hehe

Hey Slim, I wasn't asking you what your cycle was because I wanted to be on it. ::)  This was my backhanded way of ridiculing you for turning to roids when you're not even 25 years old yet.  It's posers like you, who are impatient to put years of "natural" hard work in, that give steroid users a bad name.

First of all, MELTDOWN.  Second of all, why are you fucking up your body's hormone levels when you're in your early 20s?  Are you too lazy/impatient to put in years of "natural" work to build a solid foundation?

Great lifts
just do what works for you....
i personally take the weight all the way down and to my pecs.. but i never fully lock out... to save my elbows and also that i dont rest on the top..
dont list to what the majority are sayin.. do what works for you.. if you were pressing 60lb dumbells.. you wouldnt get half the comments about range of motion.. ,.. but because you are pressing a weight most probably couldnt lift from the floor much less to partially shrug it.... thats why your gettin all the hate..
great lifts...man

And il say to you.... MAXAMIZE every lift safely. If i go all the way down for the stretch, i still transfer stress to my delts and rotator (dangerous) and put my pecs in a compromised position waiting for injury.  I get my stretch on my fly movements or my lighter pressing movements (2nd exercise and on).  This was a mass builder, plain and simple....

And ya.. chest sux...
I envy your chest ! and I'm positive you are stronger than me . I did 405 x3 at 210-215 with 100 mg d-bol in me. I don't know how much is 160's but I'm pretty positive I cannot do it. props bro and good luck with your show. I like hard workers .

Pretty damn strong.  I dont do flat bench.  Something like 90% of pec tears come from flat so ya... im scared... call me a pussy haha. Iv done 405x1 incline BB but usually its 315x8ish.  I go really slow and controlled because im paranoid, im positive it hurts my strength. But id rather lift a little less, than end up with a nasty looking unrepairable debilitating pec tear.

there's a great deal to be learnt from p/lifters when it comes to benching heavy as obviously they bench press the heaviest weight (in real terms as opposed to fantasy claims by bbers like trey brewer).

imo, the main reason why you don't tend to get pec tears with dbs is because you are forced to use less total tension ie weight of dbs you use is total of 300, when you are capable of significantly more load in that rom (315 x 8). in fact, if you actually bring the bar all the way down to the sternum in the bench you would be using a greater rom in that exercise.

my theory on the pec tears is: too heavy a weight (more than lifter is capable of) x too much rom = pec tear.

true... my left shoulder joint is KILLING me the last 2 days.  On elastijoint, which is a great product for it.  Im skipping shoulders today because of it, maybe my strenth was ready for it, but my body was not.... sux
