Title: Why is there such a big difference in these pics??
Post by: Captain Slin on October 05, 2007, 11:32:28 AM
Look at the difference! The conditioniong is out of this world in one while the other one looks like they are off? They even look more muscular in the better version... hmmmmm.....

its called increasing the contrast in photoshop, the light gray areas become whiter and the dark grey areas become darker, thus popping out the muscle. Thats why comparing photographs is not as good as seeing the real thing.

Yes, cause everyone knows bb contests are judged by pics.   They gather all the bbs, snap some posing photos, develop the film, gather in room and look at the pics and determine the next Mr. Olympia.

First version of photoshop was released in 89-90. I'm pretty sure the mags used other photo editing/enhancing methods before photoshop became the standard as well.

They are actually different pics taken at tlsightly different angles.  Look closely at the competitors in the background.  You can even see them standing slightly differently.  Angles plus different lenses make all the difference.

SLIGHTLY different angles... but the pictures are still very different.

It's the lighting that makes them look different. In the top picture the photographer used an on camera flash which washes out the detail, while in the bottom pic only the stage lighting was used which is much more natural and dramatic. The lighting makes all the difference, shoot the pic right in the first place and you won't need to mess with photoshop.
