Title: THE FUNNIEST BULLSHIT POUNDAGE CLAIM I'VE READ IN A LONG TIME!!!
Post by: The Squadfather on November 18, 2007, 08:01:02 AM
hahahahaha, oh brother, "315 for reps press behind the neck on the Smith machine" ;D

Oh brother not this again.  ::)

I never said I could military press 315 - I said I could do 315 for reps press behind neck on a smith machine - big difference. A lot of guys can do it - it's nothing special.

Again squad time and time again, these guys bring to my attention what a weakling I truly am.  315 smith, shoulder press.  I couldn't even get one on that, and I thought my shoulders were pretty damn strong.

The other day a guy was training shoulders on the smith machine at my gym. He was using 315 lbs and asked me for a spot. He got 10 reps but only used about a quarter inch range of motion.

My shoulders are far stronger than most... i hit 75's for side laterals with only a little "body english" and cybex press 6 plates per side (used to hit 110's when i was 21 til i hurt my rotator going too deep, so i only do machine press' now)..... yet i can get MAYBE 3-4 with 315 on smith... no way that dude can hit that

no big deal, tons of guys at my gym do it all the time..then I squat 405 x10 x10 ass to grass

Haha - oh brother, Squadfather just can't get over the fact that I'm stronger than he is.  ::)

I have never lied on this forum - hundreds do but I can say on my father's grave I have put up 315 on Smith press behind neck. No word of a fucking lie.

That lift there in the picture is me doing 190lbs on the rolling thunder at the '05 Expo - lifting the plates off the ground with a rotating handle 2.5in thick. I watched a dozen or so people try it before me (some way bigger than me) and all failed. Just because a guy may look weak with his supposed "10in forearms" doesn't mean he is.

Haha - I love the way I get slated on this forum by a bunch of faceless internet "warriors" most of whom don't even fucking train.

Bring it on - I can take it.  :-*

I've probably trained in about six or seven different gyms in the last fifteen years and I've seen guys do 3 plates a side on press behind neck on the smith in every single one of them.

I trained in Temple Gym from 96-05 and there were probably about twenty or so guys I've seen doing it (not including Dorian) in that time.

At my old gym there was a clown who used to do inclines on the smith and load it up in similar fashion.  One day he asked for a spot so I gave him a real spot and he could only do two horrible reps with way more weight than he could handle.  He told me I gave him a shit spot, I told him he was a shit lifter and he never talked to me again.

I've tried that before. I would hate to see someone get hurt even if they are a moron. So I usually upright row the weight for them and then try to avoid them the next time they ask for a spot.

It bugs me when people lie about their lifts especially when they are smaller or the same size as me me yet claim to be able to lift more than me....I haven't tried 315 on bench but I think at the most right now I might be able to get one rep out...so when I see others like Vince Goodrum claim they get 8-12 reps with 315 or this guy claiming something similar its like WTF?!

I saw a guy about my size do 315 for reps on bench press yesterday--he got a lift off, and got it up about half-way unassisted on his first rep, and from there the spotter started curling, and by the end he had I think 5 reps...and the spotter was probably curling 60 lbs on each rep!  Perhaps thats the type of reps BigJ and Vince G are doing.

I spotted former 2nd place AAU Mr America Ric Poston 20 years ago doing seated barbell press behind the neck with 315 lbs for 5 reps. He was at the peak of his power , 5'10" and 230 lbs at his gym in Tampa, FLA . I was amazed at that and still am.
I doubt this guy can do "legit reps" with 225. The best I have ever done is 245 for 5 reps on the smith machine press beind the neck and not many others could meet or exceed that in my gym. I am no great lifter but well above avg.

Perhaps he was just not a gifted presser.
Gifted with a wide shoulder structure that can support that kind of pressing weight.

I frankly do not think 225 on a shouldre press is that impressive.
I HOPE that everyone here drops the behind the neck press, and starts doing them in front of the head.
It is a safer motion. Period. (Trust me, 1 shoulder sugery later, it is MUCH safer).

For the record. 315 on a smith is a good lift for anyone.
I have done 315 for freeweight barbell press. 6-8 reps routinely.  340 ish for 4-5 reps.
It just takes time to get up to that ##...

Before Everyone here goes all bullshit.... I am a gifted presser. I allways was..   I can not dead lift for shit though.....

I think it is all about your genetic structure, and the time and effort you put in.

hahahahahahhaa, bullshit until i see proof.

Why?  Not everyone here is 18 years old with 3 years of lifting under their belt.
Not everyone here NEEDS proof on everything.

Stop the behind the neck pressing. It is an unsafe motion, and I believe that there is little difference that a front press.

I didn't say it was nothing special.  Do you even bother to take the time and read?
I said with good genetics, and wide shoulders, an advanced lifter north of 200 lbs, in time, should be able to post up a solid ## on the shoulder press.

The smith makes it easier by not having to balance the weight.  I only know maybe 2-3 other naturals that can military press 315 like I can.  I know TONS of non natural competitors who do it easily.

I know a lot of 180 pounders who out deadlift me constantly.... I am simply not good at that motion.
Everyone has a lift / motion that they are good at.  I was allways good on any shoulder motion.

You are a fool. Plain and simple.

EXACTLY!!!!

The reason I made the claim of the 315lb press behind neck was because someone started a thread a while back about "what is your best lift?". (It might even have been me)

I responded that my best lift was the press behind neck on a smith machine and that I had done 315 for reps. No word of a lie. I've also done 495lbs on squats on smith machine to parallel and can also leg press 15 plates a side on a Cybex legress. Those were my three best lifts. All of those lifts were done when I was injecting test and deca four times a week and I weighed 248lbs.

I'm pretty shite at everything else - I struggle with deadlifts - I can barely get 400lb off the ground and I'm also weak on general back and bicep work too.

The guy you see in the photograph lifting the Rolling Thunder at the Olympia Expo is me but it was long after I came off gear and had lost weight - I think I was down to 220lbs in that pic if memory serves correct.

For the record, I'm currently training back up to my heaviest weights at the moment and as soon as I do so I promise I will post either pics or videos - now that my pic is out there, I've got nothing to hide and I love proving people wrong so stay tuned.  :-*

So you only have a pic at your "current 220" and none at your jacked 248??

Also, I find it hard to believe that you would deadlift only 30% more than what you do for shoulder press.  Even if you're genetically stronger in pressing movements the difference should be more, as most normaly people deadlift well over twice what they can shoulder press.

I have never ONCE said "free weight". I might have said "press behind neck" and not tacked on the "smith machine" bit but I know for a fact I have never said it was free weight.

I know I can't do 315 free weight so I wouldn't even try to claim it - I don't lie on the internet - I treat it like I am sitting in a room face to face with someone. Every lift I have claime on this site is 100% genuine and has been done at least once in my life.

POST A PICTURE OF WHEN YOU WEIGHED 248 LBS!  AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU CAN ONLY DEADLIFT 30% MORE THAN SHOULDER PRESS.  OR THIS IS ALL BULLSHIT!!

Well it's been a year little J so where's the pics ;D

I was eating about 400 grams a day whan I was weighing 245lbs at my heaviest. My carb intake is relatively low all year round - probably only about 550-600grams.
The most protein I had in a day was over 500 grams but I can't remember the exact amount.
I'm taking a break from training at the moment and just eating crap - I weighed 205 this morning but I'm going back to the gym at the beginning of October. Gonna get swole!  ;)

If one of you guys could do one single rep of 315 with a barbell in the press behind the neck can you please film it.  Just bring the bar all the way down to your shoulders like you were going to squat it and press it out.  I would love to see it posted here.  What I bet I see is a half to maybe a three quarter rep.  Bodybuilding poundages are becoming so delusional it speaks volumes of insecure egos.
