there is no doubt about it dave knows his stuff.. he is a very intelligent guy. many would consider him a genisus when it comes to contest prep..but he has made some bad choices and many it seems won't let him live it down

hahah, this whole interweb thing is tricky. I think it's just a fad anyway.
-
I understand your point, Flex. S. ... I've always viewed Dave as a very, VERY intelligent person. He definitely knows his shit ... oh, well ... GetBig will be GetBig ( still like this Board better than the others though ;) ). :-\
-
He got busted knowingly selling fake dope, and he has one of the worst bbing diseases known to man named after him, Palumboism, do you think that's a coincidence?
-
Dave is obviously pretty good at what he does and he is an intelligent person, at least as far as book smarts are concerned (selling fake gear = stupid and uncool).
He always had plenty of mass and excellent conditioning. The reason he did not turn pro was due to his structure, but that is obviously out of a person's control. He helps bring his athletes bodybuilders to the show as big and conditioned as possible.
-
He also prepped Billy Guns.
hahahaha gold ;D
Yeah he seems like a bit of a tool, but he must know his stuff ;).

i guess not
anyways what i tried to say the first time was that i agree that dave knows what he is talking about..i think alost of people would consider him a genusis in the nurtritionand drug department however his lack of judgement has caused alot of hate or dislike for the man. like derek dave seems to bring alot of his past problems on himself.
on a side note i have met him on several occassions and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet though...ok i am done with my ramble
-
My main problem with Dave is....
WHY DOES A MAN WEAR EYELINER ??? Where I come from, if a dude puts on make up and goes out in public, "he" would get "his" skull kicked in, no questions asked.

Yes, but on getbig, this is not good enough...it's not possible for anything for anyone to be "good enough."
I'll go ahead and make a prophetic claim here. Mark my words, in the next 10yrs max, the Dave Palumbo style of dieting and contest prep will be the norm. Bodybuilding is always in an evolving state, after all, that's part of it's very nature. But it always takes a lot of time for new ideas and methods to be accepted by the majority.

I don't care if he does this or not. As far as I'm concerned, he could walk around with a strawberry douche wrapped around a chain on his neck...this wouldn't make his advice or ideas any less valuable or worthwhile.

Why do you defend Dave Palumbo so much? Does he work with you closely?

Dave is my guru. He's also one of the nicest most genuine guys out there...zero bullshit when dealing with him. Dave has done a good deal for me, and I can't stand seeing a good person ridiculed, especially when the ridicule is BS and most of the ridicule stems from people who obviously haven't the first clues as to what's going on or what they're even talking about.
You would take advice from someone with a strawberry douche on a chain around his neck :-\
Why, you got good advice to offer, lol?

In all fairness, can't we assume that since:
Dave is my guru.
You probably pay him and he would then naturally appear to be:
He's also one of the nicest most genuine guys out there...zero bullshit when dealing with him.
I would certainly hope that he:
Dave has done a good deal for me
His reputation is one that he has garnered based on bullshit that has been taken out of hand throughout the forums and by word of mouth, not to mention that some people here might have been "sold" fake shit by him, that might have further caused them to get complications of some sort, which would in turn, make them ridicule him...
and I can't stand seeing a good person ridiculed, especially when the ridicule is BS and most of the ridicule stems from people who obviously haven't the first clues as to what's going on or what they're even talking about.
If he is good to you, that is all that counts, but to come on here and defend the guy as much as you are doing, takes a lot.
You seem to be a good friend.

Sure, I've paid him for "guru" advice, but Dave has done things for me without any money exchanging hands and helped me with several things...both bodybuilding related and non bodybuilding related.

People will always bring this up...I understand, it's hard not to. But I've defended this as much as I know how, I've said what the actual truth is...people can believe it or not, that's up to them...but I gain nothing out of it either way.

Dave's a 260 pound man who wears eye liner and has blush on his cheeks. Not a good combo Dave.

i think alost of people would consider him a genusis in the nurtritionand drug department
I think his technical knowledge of drugs and to a certain degree nutrition is pretty pathetic, for a guy promoting himself as a science-minded, schooled guy. I'm sure he has a lot of practical experience though, which is very valuable. Of course you learn a lot by experimenting with different combos of drugs and have clients do the same. But a lot of the stuff he has written about drugs has been laughable. If you are going to talk science at least get it somewhat right.

The newspapers wrote about his operation when he was busted. I find it hard to believe he didn't know it was fake or counterfeit. But who knows, maybe he was duped as well. Seems unlikely though.

Bump for truth. Plenty of guys (like Alex A) get shredded to the gills without any of that zero carb, moderate fat BS. There is no single system that works for everyone except that if you consistently take in fewer calories than you are burning, you will lose weight. Just watch Survivor and see every single person drop 40lbs regardless of their carb intake (rice, bananas, coconuts). Dave spent 10 years competing at the National level and being a science-minded and curious guy, he probably experimented more than anyone else with different hormone combinations. If he's such a nutritional genius, show us a single natural guy he's done wonders for. I mean, why take advice from someone who did it differently than you're trying to do? Ask a good natural bodybuilder how to build a physique without drugs and ask a hormonized bodybuilder how to do it with drugs. Anything else just don't make sense.

Maybe he thought, "Since I'm not the more masculine one in this marriage, might as well loosen up a bit"?
-
My main concern in dealing with him, if I were to require the services of such a 'guru' (which I do not, although I am 'pro size') would be what he actually did with his physique. I appreciate that he was hampered ultimately by his structure, however at one time he did have a good physique, which he subsequently ruined (hence Palumboism). I'd be too worried he'd do the same to my body if I was working with him...
Does that not worry you at all, 'Arnold Jr'?

A good person doesn't sell fake gear. He knew it was fake. End of story. Did he pay back the people that he scammed? NO! If he truly didn't know he was selling fake shit he would have paid back his victims.

I bet you are wishing you could get that dealer back who sold you the Oregano you thought was pot but seriously, move on. You really going to approach the feds and tell them you bought from Dave and want restitution?
-
I think Dave is a very smart guy and knows his shit! He has alot of experience as well. I just do a different type of prep entirely than any of his guys. Like Special Ed said, no one system works for everyone.
Personally I like to eat carbs. Boy do I. WHo doesnt? some nice suggary oatmeal after your cardio, several cups of rice throughout the day to keep you going. etc. Its very good for the brain too. When you deprive your brain of sugar too much you start to go crazy. Or atleast I do. I could never diet hard on low carbs and keep my sanity with a full time job, wife, 23 month old, home to take care of and all my own prep and training to do. I have before and it was a nightmare and I never got that hard in the back, hams and glutes.
But his techniques are working on these guys hes helping. And I will tell you, Dave is a really cool guy too. I dont know him very well, but he seems to not only know his shit but he is a down to earth guy. Plus he made me feel alot better after prejudging when he took me to a mirror to show me how screwed up my tan was with all the oil making me look way smoother than I should have. Look at my 3 day out pics, with no tan or Oil and I was 100 times better. Anyways, Daves a good guy!

You're right, any diet that is a restricted calorie diet will cause you to loose weight...the idea behind his diet is simply keep a little more muscle then otherwise...that's it, no voodoo promises or outrageous claims.
Dave spent 10 years competing at the National level and being a science-minded and curious guy, he probably experimented more than anyone else with different hormone combinations. You know, and this may be a big shock to some of you, so sorry for spoiling your afternoon...but nutrients are "nutrients" whether you use hormones or not.
Most people miss the point of using hormones. it's not so you can discover some new found method(s) it's so you can do the right things you're already doing but do them just a little bit better.
Point being, natural or not makes no difference with this diet.
I think Dave is a very smart guy and knows his shit! He has alot of experience as well. I just do a different type of prep entirely than any of his guys. Like Special Ed said, no one system works for everyone.

First off, hate hearing Nationals didn't go so well for you...you were no doubt ready for that show.
Just wanted to address some things you mentioned:
When you deprive your brain of sugar too much you start to go crazy. Or atleast I do. I could never diet hard on low carbs and keep my sanity
When your brain gets starved like this you're right, it is tough, you feel very lethargic, kind of spaced out, etc. Everyone knows what it feels like to have your blood sugar drop...it's not fun. But here's the deal, if someone puts up with this for a few days, usually 3-4 max, that uneasy feeling goes away...you end up feeling better then before...very even feeling, more then enough ability for concentration, etc. But that's the thing, most people can't or simply aren't willing to give it the 3-4 days needed.
Personally, I've dieted every way there is to diet, and if for nothing else other then the way you feel on the diet, then this Dave diet is the best.
-
I didn't compete this year, but wanted to knock my BF doen a bit and try something new, so I gave Dave's diet a shot.
It worked great for me. I only ran it for 10 weeks, but that was long enough to see that it worked well for me. i'm now following his off-season nutritional protocol and am leaner than I have ever been at this bodyweight.
I've never met Dave, don't know him couldn't even tell you what his voice sounds like, but his diet theories seem to work well for me.

I agree. If he truly was a nice person he would be going out of his way to repay each and every last person that he scammed. He seemed like a friendly dude when I saw him walking around the expos, but ripping people off is a dick move and that is not open to debate.
-

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I've seen him say that after a while on his diet your muscles start to fill out from the essential fatty acids as they accumulate. Or something like that. Stuff like this is voodoo "science" as far as I'm concerned.

Phony growth-drug case extends to New York man
He is 5th to plead guilty in the county
By Onell R. Soto
San Diego UNION-TRIBUNE
October 11, 2004
The check bounced.
So a representative of a Spring Valley printer that produced packaging for a human growth hormone contacted the manufacturer and demanded payment. The Swiss pharmaceutical company responded that it hadn't ordered packaging from the printer for its drug, Serostim.
And so began the unraveling of a counterfeit growth hormone ring that resulted in the conviction last week of the editor of a muscle magazine, a New York man who says he is a former medical student.
Four San Diego County men also have pleaded guilty in the case. Three of them have been sentenced to prison or probation.
Serostim contains a form of the human growth hormone somatropin. It is an important drug. Serostim was the first growth hormone approved by the Food and Drug Administration for AIDS patients who are dangerously underweight, a condition known as AIDS wasting.
The drug retails for about $1,675 per seven-vial box, and patients take a vial daily, according to a local pharmacist. Because of the muscle growth it stimulates, it's prized by body builders who seek a drug-induced advantage. But unless they get a prescription, they have to turn to the black market. When the drug's maker, Serono, heard from the Spring Valley printer, it turned to the FDA.
An investigation turned up a National City father and son Ronald Nollet Sr. and Jr., who began manufacturing counterfeit Serostim in April 2002, according to court documents.
The father, posing as a Serono representative, had ordered the labels and boxes for the packaging. But his check bounced, prosecutors said. At his house, agents found counterfeit labels and boxes. At his son's house they found vials of the phony drug and a machine to seal the drug in the vials, according to court papers.
The Nollets paid an Oregon company to make the fake medicine out of sugar, phosphoric acid and water. The vials did not contain the hormone, prosecutors said.
What's more, the process wasn't sterile. FDA scientists examining the contents found mold. The solution was highly acidic.
"The FDA is very concerned about this stuff," prosecutor Melanie Pierson said. "If it got into the hands of the intended users, which are AIDS patients, they could be seriously and perhaps fatally harmed." She said she knew of no AIDS patient who took the concoction.
The Nollets told investigators they put together the business with Brian Mohr of San Diego, who provided the funds and told them what to do, according to court documents.
The Nollets agreed to provide the fake drug. Mohr agreed to sell it, splitting the profits with them, according to the documents.
When FBI and FDA agents raided Mohr's San Diego house in August 2002 they found $34,400 in cash, boxes of counterfeit Serostim and anabolic steroids.
Mohr told them he came up with the formula for the drug from the list of ingredients in a box of real Serostim. He got 447 boxes of the sham Serostim from the Nollets in June. More than half of them went to Bill Young of San Diego for about $330 a box, according to the documents.
Mohr later talked with Young as agents eavesdropped. He told Young to try to get back the fake Serostim he'd distributed. As Young drove away from the meeting, he called people in Florida, New York, Los Angeles and San Diego County, according to phone records reviewed by investigators.
Young was later arrested and told investigators he shipped most of the phony Serostim he got to Dave "Jumbo" Palumbo, a bodybuilder in Long Island, prosecutors said.
In his magazine, RxMuscle, Palumbo advocates the use of muscle-growing drugs. The magazine promises articles based on "research data, practical knowledge, and 'in the trenches' experience."
On his own Web site, Palumbo says he studied medicine for three years, has developed a training program and has grown from 168 pounds to his current 258 pounds as a result of training and a protein-rich diet.
"Overnight, I went from the crazy 'lunatic,' mad scientist, to the 'man' with all the secrets," he says on the site. "Nobody realized that the big secret was nothing more than CONSISTENCY and relentless PERSISTENCE."
In pleading guilty in San Diego federal court, Palumbo said he injected some of the fake drug he got from Young. When Young first told him there might be a problem, Palumbo said he took some and felt fine, according to court records.
About half of the 200 boxes Young shipped to him were lost in transit, a prosecutor said.
Palumbo pleaded guilty to selling 90 boxes of the fake hormone to bodybuilders who didn't have a prescription for about $63,000, or about $700 each.
He faces 10 to 18 months in jail at a sentencing scheduled for Dec. 17, according to his plea agreement.
Young, 35, pleaded guilty last year to trafficking in counterfeit goods and is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 25.
Mohr, 31, pleaded guilty to mail fraud in 2002 and was sentenced to three months in prison.
Ronald Nollet Sr., 55, pleaded guilty to manufacturing and distributing counterfeit drugs and was sentenced to three years' probation, as was his 33-year-old son.
would it surprise anyone that when i was 'somebody' dave bought empty serostim boxes from me..

What's his offseason protocal like?
I'm eating about 350g protein, 200g carbs and @ 170g fat.
Carbs are from oatmeal at breakfast and waxy maize pre and post workout.
fats from olive oil, macademia nut oil, natral PB, raw almonds and omega-3 eggs.
I feel great, am getting stronger and staying resonably lean.
I tend to lose msucle if I have to diet too long/far, and at my height, I cannot afford that.

200g is still considerable low from an offseason perspective. Do you crave carbs especially postworkout or is the waxy maize enough to fill you back up?

My main problem with Dave is....
WHY DOES A MAN WEAR EYELINER ??? Where I come from, if a dude puts on make up and goes out in public, "he" would get "his" skull kicked in, no questions asked.

Thinking you are going to get your money back from a bunk drug deal is pretty dumb, but hey you posted it. If you expect the dealer to do that, whether it's Dave or not then you aren't too bright. A real man wouldn't do half the crap BBers do, like selling fake drugs.

Yeah people gotta remember that steroid dealers are still drug dealers. Does anyone really think Palumbo is gonna pay back 60k? Are you kidding me?
