It's only a movie - they should get over themselves. Perhaps there is even a grain of truth to it (uh hum "inquisition").

The facts:
Is the 2007 film 'The Golden Compass' based on books with anti-religious themes?
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp
The film The Golden Compass is a controversy among Christians-Truth!

I have seen it yesterday and even if I;m not a fan of such movies I have to say it was very entertaining.
-
To be honest most kids will be talking about the cool Polar Bear is rather than any theological arguments the movie is trying to make...or at least normal kids will be.
-
If they wanted to they could their panties in a bunch over just about every thing on TV and the Movies. But Christians aren't running around demanding a 2nd grade teacher gets killed over naming a teddy bear Mohammad.
One way or another some Christians will always whine about something that's made that doesn't fit into their beliefs. So what?
-
who gives a shit if its anti christian, is that not allowed?

I see you didn't even bother to read the links I posted. ::)

Yes, it is allowed. Who cares? Christians are just warning other Christians that this kids movie is anti-Christian. Are they not allowed to give a heads up?
BTW, it is mainly the Roman Catholic church freaking out and complaining over this. Though the author is atheist and has an agenda, he is mainly attacking the Roman Catholic church.

I wasn't responding to what you posted.
I was only making the point that Christians will complain or whine about many things, however they aren't ready to kill someone over it.
Calm down loco.

Funny how it is the most vocal and aggressive atheists who say Christians should not indoctrinate their children, never mind that Christian parents sincerely believe that Christianity is good for their children. Yet, here is this atheist author, Pullman, indoctrinating children with his anti-Christan children's books and now with this movie. A bit hypocritical I think.

Not really. Because based on their belief, Christianity is a fairy tail. They see it as no more the truth than your average fairy tail.

If they are going to indoctrinate children using atheist children's material like this, then these atheists are hypocrites for telling Christian parents that they should not indoctrinate their children. These atheists can do all the indoctrinating they want, but stop telling Christians not to do the same.

What they are saying is that Christianity is a fairy tale that Christians are telling their children as the truth. When they indoctrinate their children with atheist material they are showing the children the truth and not the fairy tale they believe Christians are. So from their perspective, they are not be hypocritical but from yours they are.
-
These are the same nutcases who freaked out over "The Davinci Code".
Who cares what some fruitloops think?

They are hypocritical because they are telling Christian parents not to indoctrinate their children, while they are doing the very same thing. So it's okay when they do it, but not okay when Christians do it. That's hypocritical. They can do all the indoctrinating they want, but stop telling Christians not to do the same.

Yes, the same nutcases who freaked out over "Harry Potter" too, but Harry Potter is not anti-Christian propaganda. And The Davinci Code was not a children's movie based on Children's books. The Golden Compass is different in that it is openly targeting children for atheist, specifically anti-Christian, indoctrination.

So what?
It's a freaking movie?
Why aren't these bitches complaining about star wars.
It's ENTERTAINMENT... You go to be entertained, you don't sit around and go, "Yeah, this movie is right, there is no god." If anyone thinks that's what happens, they're just idiots.
If a 2 hour movie changes someones ideas about their religion, they weren't into their religion in the first place were they?
If church wasn't so boring (ie, more entertaining) , more people might actually show up anyway.

That's what the author thinks too.

Not really, because in their mind sthey are telling the truth and Christians aren't.
In other words, it's ok to teach your children the truth and not ok to teach them fairy tales as the truth.
Hypocrisy would be telling someone not to kill, it's immoral to kill, killing is bad and then ordering them to kill innocent children ;) ;D Sorry i just couldn't help it. Because it's funny when you complain about hypocrisy in this case yet you believe killing children was the right thing to do in that instance we have talked about many times.
-

Well, "in their minds" Christian parents are teaching their children the truth. So why are these atheists telling Christians that they should let their children grow up first and then decide for themselves if they want to be theist or atheist? They are indoctrinating too. They are not letting children group up first and then decide. It's a double standard. They are being hypocrites.
In other words, it's ok to teach your children the truth and not ok to teach them fairy tales as the truth.
Do you tell your children that you believe in God or do you keep that a secret from them? Do you tell your children that you believe in "fairy tales"?

Hypocrisy would be calling the Jews child murderers when you support the legal murder of millions of unborn babies.

Get over themselves? Sounds like good advice. Perhaps, you should give that to some of your non-believing brethren who have aneurisms and strokes, every time they see a Nativity scene or a little kid has the audacity to mention Jesus Christ during the Christmas season.
As I’ve heard one pastor state, atheists are some of the strangest people you’ll meet (a number of them, anyway). Who else gets all worked up and bent out of shape, about something that they don’t believe exists?

Children eventually decide on their own regardless of their upbringing so that point is moot.

It doesn't matter what i tell them, the point is what atheists believe i am telling them.

First off, i don't support that. There wouldn't be a scenario I'd support it in, but there is scenario you'd order the murder of children in. Thousands of them.
And for the record, i have never supported it, i have never voted for it. However, you have told us what you'd do.
And even then, by definition, both God and i are hypocrites.........which is who I learned it from ;)

MCWAY, how's life in Fundyville? Been treating you well?

Hey, I agree with that too... Everyone needs to shut the fuck up... People get so worked up over bullshit.
If they all took a little of that energy and spent some effort on fixing real problems, the world would be great.

Up here in Ontario, the hilarious part is 'The Golden Compass' was on the reading list. One teacher was reading it to the class, when all of a sudden, both the Halton catholic school boards, and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic school boards, banned the books. The kids were right in the middle of it so most went to the municipal public libraries to check them out. With all the controversy, I'm sure it boosted ticket sales. The interesting thing is both school boards never said they banned the boooks as being anti-christian or anti-catholic. They said they banned them because the author is an avowed atheist. ::)

Excellent point.
