Just started doing this exercise a month or so ago...am interested in hearing what kind of weight people tend to shift on this (no one else at the gym seems to do it)...talking about barbell T-bar rows, not the machine.
Not including barbell i can do 200 for 8 (I KNOW, BRUTAL!!).
-
kg's?
-
Alas, no...give it a few months though.
What kind of figures are you throwing about, 'Redwine'??
-
Most I ever got was 3 plates.
-
I do them Ronnie style, bb stuck in one corner and pulling with a parallel, close grip handle, with the body at about 60 - 70o
I do 7 plates for about 6 reps (2 sets). Terrific exercise

Agree...have to be my favourite back exercise besides deadlifting, only wish i'd discovered it sooner.
Great weight by the way.
-
Most I ever do is three plates (45's) because any more I feel like I'm using just my arms. I prefer the Ronnie Style in the corner though.

That's interesting 'Big_Wiggs'. Although i'd have to say that going by your avatar alone, I'd have thought you couldnt get much of a back workout from just the 3 plates?
-
Good going Jamal.
Thanks but my name is not Jamal or any other stereotypical "black" name you can come up with, Ricky-bobby.

Mate, you're a big f*cker and you obviously know what you are doing, but you have to realize you are never going to get a pump in your back like you do in your arms or calves when you train them. The back muscles can handle huge loads (I'm purely talking weights here ;D) and a guy your size should be swinging some crazy weights in Tbars. The added weights will give you more thickness too

120kg for 6
6 plates? Great weight there big guy.

Good going Jamal. Learning to read and doing something with your life.

thank you
but you are not too shabby either
-
most i did was 5.5 plates for 5 i think
-
4 45pound plates when I was fat and used poor form.
-
I do them Ronnie style, bb stuck in one corner and pulling with a parallel, close grip handle, with the body at about 60 - 70o
Terrific exercise
I agree. I loved doing them this way, compared to the manufactured version with one end attached to a fixed end, that's on a platform you're standing on.
I never used 45's when doing the rows stuck in the corner-I preferred 25's for better ROM, and I think my best on that was 7-6 plates prior to my back going south.
On the aforementioned T-Bar Row, I think I've used 4 45's, and on a supported T-Bar, I remember going up to 5 for a good 6 reps.
Nothing spectacular....
-
i use 5 pound plates for a "better stretch" i'm up to 5 of them on the bar now for 6 reps.
-
I love T-bar Row, but only when my lower back don't fcuk with me. ;D
-

are u using the one with the pad that you lean on, or the OG way with the bar in the corner and a close grip thing

WTF...what is a 5 pound plate....

yeah i bet
BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I row 50 lbs + the bar for 150 reps so I'd say about 700 lbs for 3. That could change by the end of this thread though.

20 plates minimum/100 Nibiru-reps - using the eiffeltower as a bar.
p.s.: always use strict form!
-

...interesting take on T-bars, kiwiol.
Quick question though... why don't you just do the exercise properly?
"Ronnie style" is just a pseudonym for good old fashioned cheating. Seven plates? WTF? That would equate to barbell rowing 315... but let me guess, you probably actually do 315 for reps on rows. I suppose they must be "Ron Harris style" rows.
Epic 3'' ROM.
Am I the only person doing bent-over rows bent over?
The Luke
-
I don't t bar row
I should though

I use the OG way with Bar in the corner. and I also use the V handle for grips

Hahaha you just flew off a tangent dude - Ronnie style refers to sticking a free barbell in one corner and having someone put their foot down on the bar so it won't flip over when I load up the weights and do the exercise.
I do BB row 315 - underhanded, with straps. I do them after I do deadlifts which is my favorite exercise
And FYI, I take great pride in my form and use full ROM in every exercise. Why don't you post a pic of your back so we can see who does them properly?

I can squat four plates for reps (using a 2'' range of motion). Does that make me as strong as your bosom buddy kiwiol?
By the way, I loved your claim of benching 225 lbs for 24 reps on the other thread and I've made you a bet if you're man enough to accept.

Kiwi Has a strong and good enough back to handle 7 plates. who's questioning that. The pic is nuff' said

315 on bent-over barbell rows with a full range of motion and proper form... interesting considering both Arnold and Lee Haney did them the same way.
Both Lee and Arnold only ever worked up to 225 lbs, but I guess they couldn't be a beast like you kiwiol.
315 on bb rows, oh brother...
The Luke
PS-why would I post a pic kiwiol? There's already video of me (and my back) online... and I have a full page picture-article in the Dundrum Gazette this week. I don't hide behind my an internet personality unlike you losers.
-
Quoted poundage means nothing until you see how it's performed. Look at Coleman, standing almost straight, kicking with his legs. That's a deadlift/row combo - not just a row. This is not a diss on Coleman, just making a point.

Arnold and Lee didn't suck cock either, and you do - if I can give you that, why can't you accept my rowing poundages ???
I'm strongest with my back - I deadlift 5.5 plates off the floor for 4 - 6. Rowing 3 plates is not that big a deal for someone weighing around 220 lbs with decent muscle.
Also, how the Hell do you know Arnold and Lee didn't go over 225? Did you stick with them through the whole workout through their whole lives to be sure of this fact or did you read it in FLEX where it was probably written by the same writer who makes Ronnie sound Aristotelean? ;D
Arnold has deadlifted close to 700 lbs on stage. Trust me, both him and Lee can row at least 4 plates as long as they are not rowing with their torso parallel to the ground (which isn't the best way to do it)

How can you know this??
There are a good few exercises where the pros (especially of that day) would be lifting similar or less weight than what you might see in the gym on the average day. Doesn't mean that they couldn't lift more, just that they chose not to for whatever reason (if this was bb.com i'd start to talk about mind-muscle connection right here).
Judging by Kiwiol's pic i'd totally believe his T-bar and bent over row claim. In fact if he told me a little more on the T-bar row i'd still believe him.
-
Kiwiol is wide.

"i have no reason to lie" :P
yeah i have the same back position as barbell rows except i guess sometimes i just get carried away with it all and start jerking the weight w/ my ego.
The best advice that i could give you (although you didnt ask for it) is try to make sure that when you first lift the barbell off the ground to 'assume the rowing position', make sure that you lift with your legs and not your back...my lower back used to hurt until i started doing this. Worth a try, if you're not doing it already.

Very good point Van_Bilderass, most trainers can handle 315 for bb rows... but you're a fool if you think you're doing the exercise properly with that weight.
The pro bodybuilders who do (did) their rows properly (Arnold, Lee Haney, Mike Quinn etc) rarely, if ever, go above two plates each side.
To put things in perspective... a 200 lb bodybuilder who could row 315 properly, for reps, would also be able to do pullups till his pelvis hit the bar (for reps). A balanced 200 lb bodybuilder who could row 315 for genuine reps would also be able to bench 400-450 for reps.
Have you EVER seen a bodybuilder at the top of a pullup with his torso parallel to the floor and his lower stomach touching the bar? I mean, other than kiwiol of course.
These ego-trainers just infuriate me... 315 rows with a full range of motion would be equivalent to being able to do pullups for sets of 40. Retards.

sweet fast replies here, although i should be asleep meh..
yeah i try and lift with my legs, but thanks for the advice, my lower back pain is pretty chronic even while i try to keep spinal rigidity through most movements w/ out slouching.

Cheers mate. Anyone who has seen Dorian row 405 in Blood and Guts, with good form or Ronnie rowing 5 in The Unbelievable will know The Puke is full of shit. Ronnie's form is a bit loose and he swings it up a bit, but you can tell from the way he handles the weight that he can do it just as easily strict

Nope. He kicks with his legs and simultaneously lowers his torso to meet the bar. Someone link to video of this.

Why would someone who can row 315 have to be able to bench 400??? Although i could see that you might expect someone who could row that much to also bench 400, as they would have to be pretty developed to row that weight in the first place, I don't see how a row of 315 MUST equate to a 400 bench (which is what your post suggests).
I've never seen anyone do a pullup with the form that you mentioned...but then again i've never seen anyone try.

I'm guessing you are using a machine t-bar set-up? On a lot of machines you can't pull close to the body, which is what puts the lower back in a poor position. But try to stand as close to the bar as possible and arch you back throughout the movement.
-
Some people are asking how I know the old time pros never went above 225 for rows...
Simple. The same way I know they didn't bench 900 for reps... Because it's pretty much impossible.
I can row 315 myself, if I stand up.
At the bottom position of a row you should be able see (in a mirror in front of you) the back of your hips over your shoulder, if you can see your stomach in the same mirror while doing your reps, then your standing up too much.
Anything else is technically a deadlift, with a shrug.
The Luke
-
Nope. He kicks with his legs and simultaneously lowers his torso to meet the bar. Someone link to video of this.
Are you talking about Ronnie? No need to, cause I realize his form wasn't strict. I'm just saying he looks like he could do that weight with good form had it happened. You got to remember he does deadlifts prior to rowing.
And com'on dude - are you saying it's impossible to row 315? I don't do them with my torso parallel to the floor - I have a 60 - 70o angle with my torso
-

You can talk all the shit you want, but at the end of the day, Ronnie's back destroys yours. Keep commenting on his form like all the 130 lb 11" arm, 19 year old, zit-faced Personal Trainers do hahahaha

...in your opinion. In my experience, only a minority of trainers perform a bent over row with their torso parallel to the floor...so who's to say that the 60/70 degree angle isn't a bent over row? Unless there is some absoulute authority that i don't know about which decides these things, i'd say that both are rows.

The order of strength (assuming all exercises are done properly) is:
-deadlift
-squat
-dips
-bench
-rows
-curls
...claiming a 300 lb row is one thing, but simultaneously claiming perfect form is pretty stupid.
The pullup form I mentioned is essentially the exact same movement as a proper row, so anyone claiming to be able to row 315 properly should be able to do pullups to their pelvis line (unless they weigh more than 300).
Van_Bilderass is right... neither Dorian nor Ronnie ever did any bent over rows in their videos, they did a modified deadlift.
Rowing 3 plates is as pointless as doing heavy dumbbell rows and pulling to your chest.

Wrong dumbass. Your arms are nearly extended the whole time when you deadlift. But when you do bent over rows with an underhanded grip and pull into your stomach, you have a very good ranged elbow flexion - your arms go from being fully extended at the start of the exercise to bent all the way till your wrist is sitting alongside the top of your stomach.
Pull your elbows back while they are grazing the body - that's the range of motion your arms go through while your torso is around 60 - 70o to the floor. Just because it wasn't done in the olden days of glory doesn't make it any less effective / legitimate.
-
I always forget to do corner version ,stick to basic bar bentover and t bar machine,t bar machine i hit 4 plates for 8 or so,bent over 255/275 depends reps 8/10..i have to try the ronnie way.back training is cool, lots of movements and grips.

Sorry 'The Luke' but talking in absolutes with this kind of subject is ridiculous. The list that you've put in your post may prove true for the majority of trainers but far from all of them. e.g. that list doesn't describe my strength, and i'm fairly confident that i perform the exercises 'properly'.
Never tried to chin that way so cant comment on its difficulty. Judging by your logic lat pull down strength should equate exactly to normal chinning strength also, which isn't the case.
Don't see how rowing 3 plates is pointless unless you're rowing your way. I'm still pretty confident that Kiwiol will be getting plenty of back stimulation even with the extra angle...possibly better back stimulation (for him) than if he had done the exercise parallel.

i will try..

The Puke, here's how I do it, although I lean forward just a tad more than Dorian does - he's probably having his torso sit around 70o and mine would be closer to 60o

Well guys I'm off to the gym,
I'm not a big guy (5'5'' circa 200 lbs and a bit tubby), and I'm a lifetime natural. But I train very hard in an Arthur Jones HIT fashion doing full body workouts and using proper form. So when I hit the gym I do the following:
-Back squat (ass to the ground) ...315 for 10ish reps
-Deadlift (narrow stance) ....315 for 10ish reps
-Bench ...225 for 10
-Close grip bench (ez bar) ...200 for 10ish
-Dips ...bodyweight for 10-15
-Ez bar Rows ...200 for 10
-Pullups ...bodyweight for a few reps
-Curls ...100ish lbs
I'm certainly not weak (I deadlift 405 for 11 or so when I skip squats) yet 200 lb rows leave my lats so fecked I can't do pullups or curls properly afterwards.
But if you guys row 500 for sets of 10, I'm probably doing something wrong... just like the 50ish inch chest I got from flying with 20 lb dumbbells, must be doing something wrong.

Well guys I'm off to the gym,
I'm not a big guy (5'5'' circa 200 lbs and a bit tubby), and I'm a lifetime natural. But I train very hard in an Arthur Jones HIT fashion doing full body workouts and using proper form. So when I hit the gym I do the following:
-Back squat (ass to the ground) ...315 for 10ish reps
-Deadlift (narrow stance) ....315 for 10ish reps
-Bench ...225 for 10
-Close grip bench (ez bar) ...200 for 10ish
-Dips ...bodyweight for 10-15
-Ez bar Rows ...200 for 10
-Pullups ...bodyweight for a few reps
-Curls ...100ish lbs
I'm certainly not weak (I deadlift 405 for 11 or so when I skip squats) yet 200 lb rows leave my lats so fecked I can't do pullups or curls properly afterwards.

I love how he posts and posts but never actually addresses anyone else's questions/criticisms. He reminds me of a horse with blinkers on running full speed into a concrete wall. Although obviously 'The Luke' would be running faster than any horse.

I use the OG way with Bar in the corner. and I also use the V handle for grips
maybe your angle is a bit messed up that hurts your back?

Gayer than one of Oprah's male fans

kiwiol,
I won't address all the "Luke is so gay that..." bullshit as all it shows is that you can't argue a point. The gimmick account circle jerk only confirms it... you guys mustn't get any respect in real life if you have to indulge in this mutual reinforcement; it's infantile.
You claim to do your rows with a 60 to 70 degree angle. I know that you sincerely believe you are correct in this assertion but you are sincerely wrong.
By your logic I'm doing my rows with a zero angle... which is obviously bullshit, as it would imply I'm not even bending over... the angle should be measured FROM the vertical, NOT from the horizontal. I do my rows at 90 degrees and you do yours at 30 degrees (90 minus 60). I'm three times more bent over than you are when doing rows.
So keep telling yourself, like all the other delusional ego lifters, that you are rowing at 60 degrees (which sounds pretty close to 90 degrees doesn't it); don't ever let anyone tell you that you're rowing at 30 degrees... just keep doing all your lifts "Ron Harris" style. He posted vids of his 315 lb rows and it was laughable (at least he was man enough to admit he'd been fooling himself).
While you're at it you might as well just go whole hog and start training Kamali-style...
What I don't understand is why everyone respects these weirdos... it's pretty obvious the "Squad" is comprised of dim-bulbs. Anyone with even a little gym experience would know that this partial deadlift/shrugging bullshit started when gym morons attempted to ape the form of Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman.
No one ever considered the fact that both Dorian and Ronnie were actually bending over as much as they could do comfortably allowing for their swollen midsections.
I guess a high post count doesn't equate to lifting knowledge.

How do they drive? Or sit?
Your obsession with 90 degree rows is comparable to the moronic common belief that the flat bench press is the only way to develop your chest. Its like saying the incline bench is a pointless exercise.
Kiwiol's confusion over how to measure an angle neither detracts from his argument or supports yours...everyone understood what he meant.
For someone with such alleged intelligence, you're an idiot.

Pad on your torso is a different exercise = chest supported row. This eliminates cheating. I think I used 120kg at the most, but I'm sure it would vary between machines.

Now that I think about it, yeah I think chest supported row is sometimes called machine t-bar row. I just see it as a different exercise. You definitely can't use the same load because you can't cheat.

Is this genuine? How many reps are required? So bend over until torso is parallel to the ground with an arched back and pull the bar to the stomach? This have to be 110% strict or is a tad bit of swing allowed? Might have to take you up on this ;D, before i do...no bodyweight stipulations, natural stipulations, etc.... right?

...pulling to the pubic bone/lower stomach while bent over at 90 degrees and maintaining an arched (not simply flat) back is pretty much impossible with 3 plates... at least impossible to do strictly with a shoulder width grip.
It's a pretty facetious bet, but that was my point. All these guys rowing with weights they can barely deadlift are deluding themselves... that picture of Dorian Yates doing a modified shrug kinda proves my point. The proper form is something akin to the arch of a Nautilus pullover machine movement, most of these three plate rowers (and I've trained them) can handle, maybe, one plate with proper form. Try rowing three plates on a high rowing bench and you'll get the idea.
To use three plates properly you should also be able to curl two plates strictly and bench 400 to 450 pounds... that kinda puts things into perspective.
Perhaps I should just video one of my workouts.

Would this be acceptable form?
I just started playing with this variation and I was getting like 6 very strict reps with 250lbs, after doing pulldowns and face-pulls. I was a bit stricter than this guy I think, less knee bend throughout. I think I could do 315 for a couple of reps in a few weeks.

Yeah so are Arnold and Franco freaks of nature? Those pictures of them rowing 3 plates on a bench must be worth a lot of money.
...did you see those pictures in Flex magazine perchance?
I've seen pictures of Arnold squatting with four plates, only to later see the same picture with five plates on the bar... only to then see video from which the photo was taken wherein Arnold is squatting only three plates (still good for a taller guy).
I believe Franco could row three plates with good form and Keith (onlyme) claims he has personally witnessed Franco rowing four plates... but Franco only rowed to his upper ab (okay if you have low lat attachments and short arms, but not optimal). A proper row with three plates is about as rare as a five hundred pound bench press... but everyone on GetBig benches five hundred.

I've seen the pictures outside of Flex and the rows were not just done to the upper abs. A five hundred pound bench isn't that rare anymore with gear and PL, plus the aid of Tap out gear. Also consider than pulling is usually easier than pushing it's not hard to imagine someone rowing 315.

I think these videos are proving my point...
Van_Bilderass is close, but seriously dude, if that's 250 then you'll probably only row 150 properly... I'd practice with 75 and then work up from 100.. but do it, it'll give you big lats really quick. Many of the guys I've shown how to do this don't bother doing anything else for their lats; it's that effective.
Let's start a campaign to bring back real old school training!
No one does any of these old-fashioned exercises properly any more... it's all big weights, poor form and steroids to make up the difference.
I've watched skinny guys doing piss poor flyes with 100 lb dumbbells, I felt embarrassed working-in on the bench to struggle doing flyes with 20 lb'ers. My only consolation is that my side chest pose is so impressive.
No one does rib-stretching any more... why? I added 9 inches to my chest measurement doing rib-stretchers and am now the only barrel chested gorilla looking dude in my family, both my brothers have slim builds whereas my chest measurement is nearly 80% of my standing height.
Rant over.

Glenn Pendlay explaining the row technique I posted videos of.
Rows: Well, the best way to do them is to start with the bar on the floor every single rep. Your middle back will have slight bend to it. You pull the bar off the floor quickly with the arms, and by a powerful arch of your middle back. You finish by touching the bar to your upper stomach or middle stomach. At no time is there any movement of the hips or knees, no hip extension at all, all that bends is the middle back and the shoulders and elbows.
This is hard to do and you have to have good muscular control to do it, or you'll end up straightening up at the hips along with the arching of the back. But if you can master doing them this way you will get a big back. This works because the lats actually extend (arch) the middle back in addition to other functions, just like with glute-ham extensions compared to leg curls…you always get a stronger contraction when you move both the origin and insertion of a muscle, flexing it from both ends so to speak.
The bar returns to the floor after each rep. The bent row is actually best done as an explosive movement and the bar is moved fast. I have trained many people who could do this exercise with 350 or more lbs. I myself have done reps with 425, Ed Coan, who also knows how to do them properly, has done reps with over 500lbs without his back ever coming above parallel with the ground. That is stronger than Dorian Yates or Ronnie Coleman, by the way.
I did rows with Coleman once, actually, and I was far stronger than he was. He could not do more than 350lbs strictly although he could do over 500lbs by standing almost all the way up at the completion of each rep. Ed Coan is probably the strongest person on these, although one power-lifter I trained did manage 525 for a double done strictly.
Rows look at an anatomy chart. if the scapula and upper arms are held in a constant position, shortening of the lats WILL result in arching of the middle and upper back. i AM NOT saying that the lats are primarily responsible for upper back flexion... what i am saying is that they can assist in this.
i also HAVE done EMG work on various different rowing techniques... and there is not doubt that rows performed as i describe them will activate the lats more completely than done any other way i have ever seen. i have done EMG work on a large quantity of people for rows... and ive always found that these kind of rows activate the lats most completely. and besides, even if you dont buy the fact that they activate the lats better, hell, you can always be content with the fact that your getting an erector workout.

-
Check my previous post. Do you think Ed Coan could row strictly with 500lbs?
...yes I'd say Ed Coan could Pendlay row with 500 lbs as it seems the Pendlay row is simply a flat-backed version of what I do. Except that your video showed you pulling the bar straight to your upper stomach. When I say pull to the lower stomach I mean just that. I touch the bar to my upper thighs and that means pulling in an arc, which is much more difficult and requires keeping the elbows at your side.
So using your 250 lb rows as an example, Van Bilderass:
-start using an Ez-bar as this will help you clear your knees during the lift
-start using an arched back throughout the movement (that'll cost you about 75 lbs off the bar)
-start pulling to your lower stomach/upper thighs (that'll cost you another 50 lbs off the bar)
-don't let the bar rest on the ground (with an arched back your hang position will put the twenty plates about 6 inches or less off the ground)
..however, that strict movement with 125ish lbs will build significant muscle. More importantly, you will be able to "feel" your lats the same way that you feel your pecs while doing a bench press.
Just to show off my encyclopedic knowledge of all things iron... I'd hazard a guess that my projected 125 lb working row weight for Van_Bilderass is (as it should be) 40% of his current working deadlift weight, and approx 60% of your current working bench weight (assuming no imbalances).
Am I right??

Just to show off my encyclopedic knowledge of all things iron... I'd hazard a guess that my projected 125 lb working row weight for Van_Bilderass is (as it should be) 40% of his current working deadlift weight, and approx 60% of your current working bench weight (assuming no imbalances).
Am I right??
The Luke
I thought I made it clear in my post that that guy wasn't me. I just did a search on youtube for this variation. I'm stronger than that. I have pulled over 700. I don't know what I could row like that. I'll see in a few weeks.
Are you saying that the variation you talk about is the best lat exercise? Glenn claims his is the best, also according to EMG studies.

5 plates for like 6-8.. I tried 6 but it dragged me down and almost broke my back. ;D

Sorry for the confusion Van_Bilerass, my mistuke.
Never heard of EMG studies (assume it's similar to a NMR scan?), but claiming a straight pull is THE most effective lat exercise means you've simply never done a proper arc. Anyone with a basic understanding of anatomy knows the lats don't fully contract unless the back is arched as they act as the antagonistic muscles for the pectorals.
A good row isn't simply the inverse of a bench press... it's the inverse as reflected in the plane of the inflated ribcage when the back is arched... a subtle yet crucial difference.
The Luke
-
I'm guessing you are using a machine t-bar set-up? On a lot of machines you can't pull close to the body, which is what puts the lower back in a poor position. But try to stand as close to the bar as possible and arch you back throughout the movement.
nah i find a corner, an olypmic barbell and a v-grip
i can't breathe on the machine set-ups

Yeah I know you should arch for maximum recruitment. Pendlay said in that post I quoted that you should arch hard.
On the subject of inverse benches, I recently read where an accomplished coach said inverse bench presses (hanging from a bar set in a power rack for example) were the best and most important back exercise. You can't arch on these, at least I can't. Don't know if he's right or wrong.

AT METROFLEX WE HAVE A METAL PLATE THING SOMEONE MADE IN A SHOP THAT SITS OVER THE BAR AND WHEN PUT IN THE CORNER LOCKS IT DOWN! It's pretty damn cool! I do t-bars with 7-8 plates depending on how my lowerback feels. Trust me...even if you do big barbell rows, t-bar rows have a whole different feel. I can typically get 8plates for 8-10 reps for a few reps.
I prefer the chest supported rows no more but close grip t-bars have their place.

Yes, he's wrong... on the right track, but wrong nonetheless.
Rowing the way I've described is simple the business... you feel sick after a hard set.

kiwiol,
I won't address all the "Luke is so gay that..." bullshit as all it shows is that you can't argue a point.
The Luke
Calm down tiger - it's not a circle jerk, it's just a sense of humor some of us share in this board.
In regards to the angle, aren't you missing the point altogether? My frame of reference was the x axis and you are saying it should be the Y. No worries. Then going by your frame of reference, I'm rowing at 20 - 30o
I was just trying to give you an idea of the stance, not to mention even the bodybuilders themselves use the X axis as the frame of reference (including the mags).
Your problem is that you've got a very limited perspective and you think that that's all there is to reality. Guess what? Reality is way beyond anyone's comprehension.

Yet another confusion over frame of reference Chaos - The Puke is talking about the angle about your hips - standing straight would be zero and bent over to parallel will be 90o

how many plates will fuck up a bar..
no clue..ronnie has done them with 11-12 or more plates... a good bar won't give two shits about how many plates but the cheap shit I've seen lately at la fitness and stuff got bent with 8 plates because some clown dropped it thinking he could pick it up and row it.
-
I think these videos are proving my point...
Rant over.

You can't have an angle to the cross section of a round bar, you need three points to define an angle. Get yourself an introductory geometry book and try to edumacate yourself.

The level of ignorance regarding proper exercise technique on this board is absolutely astounding. Perhaps if some of you had been training for a little longer you'd appreciate that before Dorian Yates came along NOBODY did his retarded shrug-rows... sadly this is all you see in gyms today; morons attempting to ape the form of pro bodybuilders while using close-on the same poundages.
Of course many of you will point out that Dorian Yates had great lats... that's a silly argument. I have 18 inch calves (at 5'5'') and I don't train them. Does that make me an expert on calf training? (I actually am, but not simply because of my calf development).

Thanks for that 'The Luke'. However as far as I can see from that article rib cage expansion is only possible for teenagers, so not worthwhile for the vast majority of trainers.
Why would you want to look like the people on that site anyway?? Their chests are hideous.
You clearly know way more about training than anyone on here.
-
omgsoswole,
Thanks for the complement... sadly I think your assertion may well be true. From what I see in the gym I fear I may well know more about training than the vast majority of trainees:
-I do my squats properly, and consequently don't need to do anything else for my legs
-I do flyes properly with 20 lb dumbbells, and often feel nauseated from the effort
-I know a lot about calf training and ankle mobility, so coupled with my good lower leg structure I haven't needed to train calves for several years
-I do rib cage stretches and have perfect posture
-I do rows properly and seldom need to do any additional lat work
-I deadlift with an arched back and have regularly deadlifted double my bodyweight for reps without injury for the past 14 years
I actually did start doing my rib stretching exercises at age 14... which explains my fantastic results.
However it is possible to stretch the ribcage even till age 24 (the sternum structure is mostly cartilaginous, and doesn't completely "harden" till full adulthood just as skeletal growth can continue in rare circumstances till that age).

Yep, bet you didn't know Kiwiol was a white girl did you? ;D

I'm strongest with my back - I deadlift 5.5 plates off the floor for 4 - 6. Rowing 3 plates is not that big a deal for someone weighing around 220 lbs with decent muscle.
Kiwi,
Will you be entering the ADONIS YOUTUBE DEADLIFTING CHALLENGE? Being able to pull 550 for 4-6 should make for an easy win for you unless TROPONIN enters! The contest is to rep out 225 for max reps in 3 minutes. Straps/Belt okay. Hands cannot leave the bar. I think 50 reps will take the prize.

When was the deadline? How many have entered so far?

VB,
Enter anytime by uploading your video to Youtube with your screenname somewhere in the video. The deadline is in like a month, so you have some time to ramp it up and practice. Lots of people claiming they can get 40 no problem, but no videos yet.

Ed,
You really need to provide a little more incentive than what you've got going right now.

I think I can bang out 25 - 30 with 225. I am not really competitive mate - I'm incredibly lazy ;D
