Thanks for the props guys... and do the challenge! As of right now..I say Adonis is full of shit! The good mornings were narrow stance but, half were good and half were cut high. Yeah that was my second set.. I need to start working with 400 or heavier again.

It's really nice, enjoying myself some of that as we speak :)
I've tried Copenhagen once, didn't really like it that much. Do you use it under your lower lip or what? All swedish versions are meant to be used under upper lip.

bullshit. you got the reps and it was clean. if i have to put it up on my youtube account so it'll count i'll do it.

that was impressive as hell, man. looks like i really do need to try again. might go for the 315 good mornings on monday while i'm at it. got a triple with 385 last time and i don't think #3 was particularly pretty, not sure how well i'd do with 3 plates.

I will be getting 30 straight next time.  Not sure how much I can improve by the contest deadline so I won't predict any more than that.

it depends on how you failed, i think. if the problem was that your muscles gave out, you might be able to squeak out another few (30 sounds doable). if it's a cardio thing you could condition yourself.

i'm thinking i can at least match 40 next go-round, but it's definitely chancy. worst part is if i hit 40 i'll have to go for 45 since i'll be damned if i'm just going to top it by one.

why the fuck do you keep going on about cardio, seriously?

it's got fuck all to do with cardio you fucking moron. your body is just not conditioned to do high rep deadlifts yet.

you need to understand that there are many muscles of the body being called to work at once (not least of which the stabilizing core which will has a tendency for less endurance than the legs, etc).

the only way to condition your body to do 112 reps with 225 is to keep practising high reps (over 100 per set) with various movements aimed at getting ALL your muscles (including all important core) conditioned for such an assault.

in any case, deadlifting 225 for such high reps is a tremendous demonstration of strength endurance and will power (fucking nuts if you ask me. not into super high rep weightlifting and don't plan to be).

props to the lunatics taking up this challenge. considering the initial claim was, in fact, a lie, it's pretty impressive that there are people out there stupid motivated enough to take it on.

cool...

i think mm's conceding to you anyway. one thing about magoo (as opposed to abeles), he backs his talk, and if he says you're in front, he means it.

i reckon both of you will probably go back and forth for a while, but if someone is serious about this, they need to spend some time doing rest pause training for 100+ on exercises like deads, rack pulls, good mornings and weighted situps, alternated depending on recovery abilities (supplemented or otherwise).

i would forget about everything else for a while so as not to impact on recovery. thing about the high reps though is that you'll be able to recover and progress with a greater frequency.

if one of you guys were dedicated enough to this challenge, either one of you could get 112+ reps by february.

both of you could improve your technique to become more economical, with a shorter rom and more rest spots along with more efficient breathing to create better circulation and clear lactic acid.

it would be interesting to see how this type of training would affect your body composition or whether you would lose much absolute strength (if you are a well trained strength athlete you will definitely lose some). there would definitely be some physical and psychological adaptation and your conditioning would definitely improve.

What is your 1RM on deads and GMs to "almost parallel"?

I did a single with 460 to parallel yesterday.  :P

Wow good mornings lol I didn't think anyone did them anymore and thats some serious weight for that exercise .

westside brought them back into favour and most p/lifters realise they can help enormously with your squat max.

in fact, i can think of no greater assistance exercise to help your squat.

The best I've hit at that depth in the video is 525.. I tried 545 and almost ate the floor because it rolled forward onto my neck.

I pulled 675 once and have hit 650 a few times off the floor.. since then I've stalled out with 675 right at the knees. I come off the floor fast but seem to get stuck.

Personally, I wouldnt begin training for high rep 225 DL's unless I was just a "recreational" lifter. If you are a BB or PL it serves no purpose to be able to pull 225x100+ and would only take away from your progress over time.

I think I will make a vid soon but Im not going to specifically train for this. I will not sacrifice absolute strength for this.

i absolutely agree, which is a good reason why i personally would not go near this but, hey, it appears to be a worthy challenge to some. ::)

i've always believed deadlifts are a great movement for heavy weight and low reps. nothing will build your absolute strength like deadlifts or rack pulls. actually rack pulls are better imo. regular and longterm super heavy d/lifting can cause back problems but it takes all types i guess.

I'm a Strongman competitor so every time I compete/practice I sacrifice absolute strength, unfortunately. I have no problem throwing this in on an Event training day. I have done DL for reps competition before and it really drains you but thats part of what I do. I will train for a car DL for reps, or a loading medely, but 112 reps with 225 to beat some internet claim that cant be backed up, dont think so! Though there are prizes involved and thats good motivation.

i don't think any of us are aiming for 112. that's just not going to happen.

however, it's always fun to push yourself and after going for 1RM for so long, taking the opposite approach has been, dare i say it, enjoyable.

That was impressive, but you looked like you had at least 20 left in you. Remember you can rest standing up.

Yeah I cut it loose after a minute... I was going for a minute limit... again just for kicks.. and resting in the top isn't that easy. You're still supporting the weight. I noticed that I get alot lower on heavier pulls. I think I could get 60 total or a little more. I'll do it again for 3 minutes and go for broke.

I'm not sure why everyone is giving me props for 40 reps...magoo hit 50 within the time limit.. but at least no one is calling my lifts shit this time!  ;D

dude those are pratically stiff legged deadlifts with a microscopic knee bend.

the first 1/4 of a deadlift should be all thighs wich should start at about 45 degrees, then the following 1/2 is a combination of thighs and back finished off by the 1/4 back.

think of the first 1/4 of the lift as a squat!

A deadlift is meant to build the entire body, what your doing is pratically cutting off the lower half of the lift.

whatever you did was impressive , but thats not a deadlift!

the dude knocked out 225x40 in about a minute and does a single with over 650. i'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing.

wicked, my 50 is hardly more impressive than your 40. i rested for a while after 20, 10, and 10. though i have a feeling i might be able to match 40 and keep going if i really buckle down, i sure as hell won't get it as fast as you.

I think the resting doesn't take much from the overall impressiveness.  You just need to be mindful that the 50 were not consecutive and included a rest.  I think it was still a very good lift.

there's about six ways to do them. straight legged, arched back, rounded back, wide stance, seated, concentric-only...

all that matters is that you use them as a hip-flexion movement. when the weight gets heavy it's impossible to avoid a little knee bending simply because of the physics of the lift. otherwise you'd tip over.

that's also 155 pounds. here's a REAL deadlift. it was a world record at the time. notice how much back he uses.

hes still using his thighs and ass to move the first part of the lift even though its not as deep as the vid I put up.

the guy that posted his deads on this thread is starting the lift right out of the shute with 225 using his back.If he did the last few reps like that I would not have a problem with it , but starting right off like that to me is not much of a deadlift at that weight.

If the guy does 600lbs , I would think he would have to use some leg drive to move that weight unless he just always did them this way and built a exstremely strong  back. so I guess he did them like that just for speed or something.

ok I watched  a few reps of magoos, thats a great deadlift ...

the thing is, slayer, if you're using the deadlift to target muscle groups then sure, wicked's form may not be optimal in the same way that a powerlifter's bench form won't work for someone trying to target his chest.

however, if your goal is to pull a heavy bar off the floor, then hip depth is pretty subjective. my hips need to get activated a little to make the lift, but i'm also pulling a lot less than wicked. given a choice, i'd rather be able to rip 650 off the floor but have it look more like a stiff-leg deadlift than have "perfect" deadlift form and be stuck in the low 500s.

Lifting style is due to body shape. eg this guy has short arms and thigh and long torso which allows him to get low at the start of the deadlift.
