huge beyond belief

Remember back in the day how you were supposed to have the same size arm and calf to be considered to have good symmetry? Like Dennis' overall physique a lot, but in that pic his arm looks like it is about three times the size of his calf!

Yeah thats the Greek Ideal , your arms , calves and neck are all supposed to be the same size , hence why Cutler pointed out he has flaws , he has a nice physique but he needs to improve and he will the calves isn't his main issue its the lack of back size for his large frame .
-

Yeah, kinda like your girlfriends snatch

because he is 4 feet wide

Steve Reeves is the only bodybuilder I can recall who meet the Greek Ideal his neck , calves and arms were all exactly the same size , coupled with a 29" waist and a 52" chest and perfect proportions his physique is unmatched even to this day.
-
WELL. if ya like the greek idea of the male physique, you might want to just take up fitness modeling.. you would see plenty of 15 inch calves and arms... that is pretty rare and limiting (the greek idea)..

15" huh? try 18 1/4" I'm guessing bigger than yours ;)

People post that disgusting drug bloated gyno creature Coleman and are awestruck...I'm like that about Reeves, Park and the old school.

Dennis must have taken helluva drugs!!

Sadly that ideal standard died a long time ago in elite bodybuilding.
The sport is ruled by massive freaks not ideal physiques.
It is fun and kinda crazy at least.
Wolf is a future MR O in the next 2-3 years however.

Geezus christ get your head out of your ass already with this "Greek Ideal" nonsense. People thought the Earth was flat too. Steve reeves had a great build but to say he was perfect is nonsense

Wolf is in better condition there than Cutler was at the Mr.Olympia.
Just a shame about his 'structural flaws'.
-
Big dude, all around big dude. His high lats actually give him a unique look. If he can thicken the up He'll be allright. Mike Francois had high lats when compared to dorian but was thick for sure. Wolf has to get his calves up for sure.
-
Wolfs high lats do give him a unique look. His back isn't that bad really, just could use a bit of thickening up. Rear lat spread though, you wont find a wider guy than Wolf.

I beg the differ : THIS is the best we've seen yet !

If a BB has the combo of Size,Proportion,Coditioning he should win but this rarely happens anymore its polotics,It disgusts me

Steve Reeves is so overrated. Are there any better photos of him? The ones that people keep posting don't prove him to be anything exceptional

not by todays standards. but in the late 40s/early 50s, he was like the ronnie coleman of that era.

You can find wannabe underwear models in the city that pwn Steve Reeves.
::)
People say Dennis' high lats and long torso work against him, but to me they look a hell of a lot better than some greek 'ideal'. ::)

He's not close he has calves that lag well behind his arms I'm not sure about the neck but its safe to assume its bigger than his calves , he had superwide clavicles and a narrow waist & hips and that makes for a nice physique but he is lacking .
-
I think long torsos are more desired by the public. Dunno if that's relevant to the discussion or not.
No man wishes to be stocky and have equal proportions in regards to everything. Most people would rather be tall, have a long torso with a ripped stomach and big chest, with decent shoulders and back.

His lowerback is kinda weak too. I don't think for a second that he doesn't do deadlifts, but maybe that's just how he's built. Some people always have weak calves; Ronnie being a prime example. Calves can be brought up though, as Sean Ray improved his calves throughout the 90's.

A long torso is a preference but not by the judges I'm not saying he can't win despite that however is main problem is lack of back size for his large frame when he improves on that he will be Mr Olympia his other flaws would be overlooked for his strengths

You're right.. If he improves his lower back, and overall back definition, then it'd be enough to overlook his shitty calves.. Like with Ronnie. ;D

Lemme just be the first to say that the Grecian Ideal is a load of dogshit.....I think their "ideal" sucks and needs to be completely rethought. Steeve Reeves is a twerp.

Do you know these measurements on Woolfe?

Really? Well they sure as hell like the IFBB drug addicts and second raters who couldn't quite make the cut.. Gay4pay is very much a revenue stream for today's musclemen and they aren't after no Greek ideal..
Maybe they just like looking at men in tiny little trunks, oiled up and tanned..posing to wolf whistles and cheers.
This whole 'sport' is reliant on gays.
-
Do you know these measurements on Woolfe?
No but you can tell his calves are obviously NOT on par with the arms

It doesn't matter how big they were it only matters how much development detail they had and if they were in proportion with his quads and judging by this picture I'm not sure his calves are bigger than some members on this site
-
Looking at those pics, there's no way Steeve Reeves had a 52 inch chest and 29in waist - lying about your measurements was obviously the thing to do back in the 1950's - as well as every other year for that matter.

it said in MD he does deadlifts towards the end of his workout...only does between 225-315 lbs though, i think he may need to work closer to the 405-495 range to give his back the thickness it needs
-
Thanks for clearing that up ::)
Still not convinced - that is not a 52in chest and certainly not a 29in waist.

Don't seem like particularly outrageous stats give the size of his chest, lats and ribcage.
Did Reeves claim to have these stats all his life or are they at his biggest/best shape?

At his peak which was around 1947-1950
-
Well ND I don't see anything in the pics to make me think that those stats are false.
Ultimately it doesn't matter what his measurements are..the physique looks superb
-
In one of the muscletech dvd's Cormier says his chest is 52 inches. Is Reeves that big?
-
Most of these bodybuilders today are loaded with drugs and look terrible. I give them credit because not many can go day by day doing the same they do but its looking worse and worse every year. It doesn't even look real anymore. I think that the ideal build would be something around Arnold, Bolo Yeung, Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren. Any of those classic bodybuilders too. I would like to have a build like Dolph or Van Damme.
-
Arnold and Coleman both had 58 inch chests (they say). Katz was 60.
I don't see why it's not possible for them both to have 52 inch chests. Cormier's measurement is smaller than many much older bodybuilders.
Maybe Reeves added an inch or two to his stats but guys like Park had 50+ chests back in the day too. I don't think 52 inch chest and a 29 inch waist are stats that instantly scream 'bullshit'.
Whatever it was his chest, lats and shoulders were very big and tapered down to a tiny waist..that's evident.
Here's an interview with Reg Park. 52 inch chest. It's Cormier's problem.

Is it written down in some old texts or based on statues, art, etc?

Actually If I'm not mistaken it was based on statues

I don't think any modern bodybuilder could be called the Greek ideal due to the overall size. Reeves perhaps but anyone bigger than that is something else, even if parts are in proportion.
Doesn't Nasser have pretty good proportion within the three muscle groups? :D
-

Dennis Wolf is 5'11 just like you. I take it you are a great fan of his as a result?

Sure it's aryan perfection, but us white's are the lowest class of monkey's in the sex field. All those 4 loser's don't have anything inside their posing trunks.

Yeah no bodybuilder would be the greek ideal anymore. The calves let them down. A pro with 20+arms is common, but a pro with calves the same size as arms is pretty rare.
-
Does anybody actually care about the Greek ideal??? Id gladly take 18inch arms with my 16inch calves anyway and not give a shit about wether its the Greek ideal ::)
