i swear i've seen at least 7-8 geeks this week alone doing the hardcore "put the bar in the corner of the power rack" t bars with 25 pound plates for "a better stretch" ::), even if you stack the damn thing to the limit it's only roughly 200 pounds.

Easy squad, you can add more 25's and next thing you know you got a glorified pipsqueak that thinks he's Ronnie Coleman in the corner.

it just looks so fuccking stupid, you see these clowns doing it and it just makes you laugh.

I use 25's. Whats the problem? First off, has NOTHING to do with the stretch all mighty guru. Its the CONTRACTION. You can pull it back further. I personally use 3 25lb plates, THEN put on 45's. This allows me to pull the bar closer to my stomach for a better CONTRACTION. Get it?

i wasn't the one who claimed the better stretch bullshit, i was talking about what these clowns say and you seem like exactly the type of little pusssy who would do those. :D

AHHAHAHHAHA!!! They claim a "better stretch".......classic horseshit. The only reason for the 25s is so they have more than 2 plates on the bar......done and done. A better stretch is pure horseshit.....anyone that says otherwise is full of crap. I've loaded a bar with 45s and the "stretch" was just fine. Most never use a full ROM anyhow.....all horseshit so pussies can feel better about their cubscout level strength.

It looks fucking gay. I use 45's like a real man.
-
i prefer the 35's, i'm no ronnie coleman
-
exactly.
The stretch is'nt gonna change cuz u have a smaller plate ???
-
these "guys" wouldn't ever even consider just loading the bar and doing regular barbell rows. ::)
-
I think the 'stretch' thing is BS, but I can see the validity for wanting to pull the bar for a better contraction. Never tried it, though. I remember Flex Wheeler doing those on the YouTube video where he was getting ready for the 1998 (I think) Arnold Classic.

Can't wait to do barbell rows tonight!!! Golds NEW HAVEN BABY!!!!!

it's funny, my gym is one of the very few that has one, it's a shitty Nautilus Nitro one though, it's decent but it's not the old classic one like in Yates video.

when you do 5 plates i fear the other end might lift off ???

just have someone LIGHTLY put one foot on the empty end.

I just ask some old lady to put a foot on the end.

Good shit none the less. Nice for a finisher after some heavy rows and chins/pulldowns
-
It looks pretty dorky with the 25's, especially the pink ones - nonetheless everybody shall do as they please.
The only way you can make them fathom the error of their gay ways SF, is loading the bar with 100's from top to bottom and then rep out nonstop until the gym closes* 8)
*tip: if it's a 24h / 7 days a week gym say goodbye to your life ;D ;D ;D

Haney (world class back) used to do the t-bars with the 25's (at least in pics).
-

the good thing about the machine is that it keeps your triceps out of it unlike a heavy dumbbell.
-

Yeah Dexter Jackson does them that way too. I just prefer 45's.

My Gold's in Arlington has one of those. I'm not gonna complain, though. They don't bust my balls for using chalk!
-
when you do 5 plates i fear the other end might lift off ???
stick a dumbbell over the end of the bar. i definitely crotched myself doing t-bars once. not fun. :-X
i occasionally use 25s on the bar both for the stretch and the contraction when i'm going light. sometimes you don't feel like doing them ronnie-style. i've also done regular barbell rows (pendlays, really) with 35s for the same reason.
-

I believe I have seen tony freeman use 25's as well......

After NOT having any pullover machine I love having the option training here. Plus if I was a memeber back in November Golds Orlando wouldn't have ripped me off for 50$ for the week pass

i was just in Orlando two weeks ago, ate on International Dr.

exactly, its for the contraction not the stretch, when i use 45s it hits my chest before i can even get a decent contraction, so i also use 2-3 25s first and then 45s, its help ALOT
-

I trained at Golds orlando, believe it or not it was called Dr Phil's I guess thats a part of the city. I went to Orlando in November ate at some of the Disney hotels, top notch, some of the places require reservations months in advance. I think the highlight of my trip was the food ;D
-
hey guys i think using 25's gives a greater range of motion actually.
just a thought.

yeah we ate at the Hard Rock Cafe at City Walk in Universal Studios, pretty good, they had a Bob Marley caribbean food place that we wanted to eat at but we didn't get a chance, stayed at the Clarion, had a lot of fun.

Oh man this brings back memories, the Polynesian hotel in disney has a restaurant Ohana, damn good. They have all you can eat skewers of beef, turkey, pork and sausage. The turkey was the best I ever had in my life.

I gotta agree here. I do 'em both with bigger plates with a good stretch and contraction, and I do 'em with the 25s pulling just with the elbows and holding the contraction for a good pause. Absolutely two different exercises.
-
I heard Milos kicked someone out of his gym the other day cause they were loading more than one 25 lb plate on the Tbar row (he didn't want his trainees looking bad)
-

true...
dont you hate when i put your foot in your mouth? ;D

I was wearing a "will flex for food" shirt when we went there on business. The waitress brought over more waitress' and refused to give me my food until i complied. Luckily, my boss did it for me. haha.....
Shoulda went to the brazilian BBQ! that place was amazing!

maybe they came early

The smaller plates being used on t-bars, were started by dante.
Its for a better squeeze at the top.

;)

Haney went both ways :-X
-
Not jsut about the better stretch, which I believe, but being able to keep your back as close to parallel as possible when doing so; better form with a bigger ROM also. Being 5' 6" I use 25's for all back exercises ;D
-
i use the 25's too...primarily so you can bring it up further (less plate in the way)
-
I only lift tractor tires.. all yall are acting a fool with your 25lbs plates.. I also believe that Bob Chick called Dex on the 25lbers in the road to the olympia web vids.

I trained with Toney Freeman, and yeah he swears doing them w 25s. He really doesnt use a lot of weight for anything that I noticed. He also claimed to have put another 2 inches on his arms using only 25-30 lb dumbells.
-
What are these 25LB. weights that you speak of?

he would have put 3-4 inches had he trained with 10-15 pounders......

me too :)
-
best part is watching them bang it against the ground every rep..wtf is that about? ??? They're basically doing closed grip deadlift heave ups.
I watched 2 dudes and some fat girl do them a few feet away with the two guys telling them it's a lower back and bicep isolation exercise.. a lowerback and bicep isolation size? I started laughing what I thought was quietly and apparenlty they heard me. The "coach" asked me what I thought about what he said.. and I told him keep doing what he's doing. I'm not strong enough to mess with t-bars.. I've got my hands full with this. (pointed at the 6 45's on the CS row). ;D
I don't get where these people get their training advice..even MD and M/F isn't THAT bad.
-
hahah, and all the clowns doing them still don't get a full ROM, it's just an excuse to slack off.
-

BINGO . . . Greater range of motion.
Platz used 35's for deadlifts for this reason, so did Ronnie Abston.

Frank Zane was the first person to really advocate using 25s for a better contraction... Tony Freeman has since picked up the cause...
Personally I am a big fan...yes its a pain in the ass to load up the bar with 25s but the extra ROM that it provides is great... the trick is to position yourself to where your damn near paralell with the floor...with your head slightly tilted up facing the mirror...
I am also lucky to have one of those old school t-bar machines at my gym...the one that you pick up off the floor... so im sure thats a factor...

I use the smaller plates when doing stiff legged deadlifts, just so i can get a better stretch. I can see why some would do t bars with the smaller plates, so you can pull it in further.
-
The stretch is'nt gonna change cuz u have a smaller plate ???
actually, it does, if u stand at the same height as when using a larger plate.
not defending anyone here, just stating the facts.
-

Lol...they're beside the 350lb bells in the corner. ;D

the only reason to use 45's is if you need to jump up 45lbs per set OR you are such a beast that you don't have enough
room on the bar unless using 45's....neither of you fat fucks could rep a half full bar of 45's.....
Mon of Steel is so fucking short and stubby, using 45's he must have about 1/8 inch ROM....fucking BEAST!!!

Squad, why all the hate on your fellow lifters bro? :(
They are putting plates on a bar and doing a traditional back exercise.
Who cares what size plates they use and long as they don't damage anything or fart too loud when lifting.

I no longer do any T bar or reg bentover rows, (except DB's with 1 hand in support of my low back.)
I love Hammer back machines, really great feel and work the back, NOT your ego.
Some may think this is wimpy lifting , but my lats say other wise.

translation=you put 8 25's on the bar, deadlift it for one rep and call it a day.
haha! Today we had 2 guys, one overweight and one extremely skinny one, and one girl coming to gym. The girl just sat there at an ab machine (didn't do a single set) watching while these 2 guys started simultaneously punch the punching bag, trying to impress the girl. It was quite obvious that the only punching they were used to do was hammering their keyboard after a lost battle in counter strike. Then they started talking about "back kicks" and continued by demonstrating to girl how they're supposed to be done.
It didn't really come as a surprise what followed after the punching&kicking session was over, of course it was time to hit the bench press, and hit it hard! They loaded the bar with one 15kg (33lbs) plate for each side. First in turn was the fat guy. He did about 5 reps. Then it was the skinny guy's turn. He struggled and finally completed 2 reps. The girl (might have been the skinny guy's girlfriend) was obviously very impressed with this, as she said "Wow! I'm proud of you!". The fat guy did one more set, but obviously the skinny guy felt that the one monstrous set of two reps was enough for the day, so they left.

Agreed Mars, Big Howie is thick as a slab of iron and destorys vage by the dumptruck load.
Thanks guys. I sincerely feel that taking advantage of the new , effective equipment is the key to having a long, happy life in serious training/bodybuilding.
Heavy benching, deadlifts. t-bar rows and squats, etc are tough, old school movements. The reality is they can also cause nagging injuries over the years. This "hardcore" is only free wt movments nonsense make no sense in terms of building muscle.
