if so what did they do :)
-
I have seen a person having a heart attack at the gym that I work at which was very distressful when it happend.
-
Older guy in my gym was doing the flex hamtractor really fast at the weight sstck came up and out of the guide hole...he then used his hand to guide it back in the hole forgetting there was 200 pounds of stack above his hand. Never seen fingers that pointed in that many directions at once. Tried to sue my insurance but my insurance company didnt cover stupid.

his passing must have raised your cortisol levels and ruined your day.
did you sue?

Seen a guy die at the gym once.
-
no, gym injuries are a myth. It's all mental.
-
Not really an injury but...
at my gym there was this pretty small guy (height and mass-wise) and my training partner and me were picking on him all the time.
He always used to look how we were training and try to mimick the workouts.
After we were doing dumbbell pullovers he took a dumbbell, SAT on the bench, put the dumbbell above his head and leaned backwards. He almost flipped over completely, hurting his head and his shoulders for sure. He then made a few hardcore comments while we were laughing our asses off, then after a few minutes he was gone...
-
No I didnt sue the guy who had a heart attack.

Every now and then, someone really does train to failure.
-
A long time ago I saw this guy doing a shoulder press with 45lb dumbbells and he dropped one on his foot, lost his balance, and fell backwards into another machine, proceeding to knock it over onto someone else...lol

Every now and then, someone really does train to failure.
lol
-
Saw a girl running on the treadmill slip and fall. Poblem was, there was a wall directly behind the treadmill, so when it shot her off, she had nowhere to go. She just kind of laid there for a minute, feet butting the wall, with the belt of the treadmill sanding the front of her body.
She finally got up and she was skinned and bloody on her face, shoulder and knees. Her boobs took some abuse as well!
Ordinarily, I would have felt sympathy, but she was a bitch, so we (the staff) had a good laugh.

It was a fucked up seen. I told the story on this thread:

I was at John Terrilli's gym in Newtown Australia! This guy walks in and you can see he is all pumped for a big workout. He does some light warms ups and then turns around and cracks his head againt the shoulder press supports and blood is pissing every where! Needless to say he didn't finish that workout. That was the first and last time I ever seen him at Terrilli's gym.
Another one at City Gym in Australia. Not really an accident but funny. This young good looking cat that is a real ladies man is doing smith machine incline chest presses and as he reaches his last rep and all of a sudden his girlfriend appears and start pushes down on the bar on his upper chect and neck area and starts beating him in the head his her free hand. She must have waked the poor buggar 20 times. SHe was screaming you don't cheat on me you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then left. I walked over and helped him get the bar of chest. He was a real cool about the whole thing although a little embarrased. He even did a couple more sets on the smith mahcine

saw a dude try to barbell incline 3 plates on one side of the bar and 2 on the other, took it off and BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM M, plates everywhere and the bar flipped over and landed on the floor, dumbass was in outer space when he loaded the bar and didn't realize it, lucky he wasn't hurt.
-
I did see a very close call once. An obvious novice lifter was setting up to do front squats, he had 45's on each side, when I was watching this I was even thinking man this is a train wreck waiting to happen, when he takes the bar off, he immediately gets off balance and one after the other the plates go sliding off. One of the plates hit a guys shoe, but some how missed his foot. My gym closed and now I work out in a College rec center, so I see alot of stuff like that.

One time a guy was doing pulldowns and forgot to put the pin in.he gave a mighty pull and cracked himself right in the forehead.he was a bloody mess after that.
seen a dude have his heart rate race up and he was taken away in an ambulance.
seen a guy get light headed and fall down.one of the trainers in my gym asked if I would help walk the guy to the front of the gym so he could sit down.
...it turned out ok for me because the guys wallet was hanging outta his back pocket ;)
;D

When I lived in NY, there was this Rico Sauve mexican guy who would come to the gym in board shorts and sandals. He had his hair slicked back like Antonio Banderas and would leer at the women in the gym. Pretty much a douchebag.
He was doing bent one arm rows with one leg on the bench, one leg perched backwards and outwards on the floor to balance. My training partner at that time was Dave Visher, a second string linebacker who played for the Jets. He was 6'2" and well over 300 lbs and was doing incline presses with 140's and at the end of his set sent them flying forward and a bit to his sides.
Unfortunately for Rico Suave, his sandaled foot was directly in the path of the dumbell flying out of Dave's left hand. I even yelled out "Oh Shit!" but there wasn't enough time and Suave's foot was made into puree. That shit would have hurt wearing Doc Martens, I can only imagine how it felt with sandals.
My wife laughed and had to go to the locker room to compose herself. She hated all the mexicans who would just stand there and openly stare at the women with creepy blank looks on thier faces.

So, you get a D.

how do you consider a moron getting a 140 pound db dropped on his bare foot not an injury?

"Have you ever seen anyone injure themselves in the gym?"
He did not drop it on himself, it got THROWN at him, which is an offense, not a selfinflicted injury.
Dave, please write
"dumbbells getting thrown at people is not 'hurting themselves'" 1000 times for me until monday. Otherwise i might have to give you another afternoon in class and an E in english.

I'd consider his choice of footwear as accomplice to his injury. Thus, he's brought it upon himself.
BTW, I went nowhere near the injury for fear of teh Aids.

One more.
When I first started training, I was at a little aquatic & fitness center that had the OLD benches. You knw, the ones that you had to lower the weight directly onto the rack, becuse there was no guard behind it.
Anyway, dud is doing bench w 225. No problem for him, he usually repped with 365. As he was going to rack the weight, he sneezed and missed the rack, didn't let go of the bar and when the weight crashed to the ground behind him, just before the crash, there was a audible...POP!
He dislocated his freakin' shoulder!
He stood up screaming with one shouldr about 4 inches lower than the other. Nasty!
Fortunately, there was an orthodontist (yes, teeth!) in there that put it back in for him and drove him to the ER. Now, I don't know what kind of orhodontist he was (well, that's a lie, he did my braces!) but he was damn good at re-inserting shoulders!

D K gets a bitch slap for being a retard and trying to ruin a fun thread >:(
-
there was this one tool bag, round 20 who always squatted heavier than he could handle, went up to 4 plates and went down 4 inches, should have stuck around 4 plates...u know the drill, had his knees wrapped headphones blasting and the funny thing was his dad was always his workout partner....well one day i turn around and look across the gym and the bar was on the safety bars and he was lying on the floor, the tool bag got rolled out on a stretcher, not sure what he did exactly but he was back in there a few weeks later squatting with only 2 plates ;D
-
if so what did they do :)
-
i see a lot of skinny dudes at my gym, 120-140 soaking wet, they look like an injury. does it count?
-
Back around 91' a guy at the Gold's Gym in Honolulu had a heart attack while benching and yes the bar came down and crushed his neck. He died. Back around 1980 or so a guy in the Original World Gym named Buggsy (an older chubby guy) used to bench with such a high arch his friend (Tony Nowak) would pretend like he was climbing under him. He ended up dropping the weight on him and it hurt his back really bad. The worst thing that has happened to me would be when I pinched the end of my nipple off

I once saw this older guy crack his melon open. The guy was attempting to do lower back hyper extentions on a freakin roman chair...lol....people are so clueless. Sure enough he fell over with the piece of equipment and he belted his head of the floor. Blood everywhere and totally unnecessary.

Any stories about people getting injured, or injuring themselves, or accidents or whatever.
I haven't seen much myself. I saw a guy fall on his ass in the smith machine, I dont know what he did just heard the crash.
As for the guys wearing sandals, they deserve to get dumbbells dropped on them :D

bump for more stories about injuries and accidents in the gym

i saw a kids wrist give out or something while he was doing incline DB press...The weight fell on his mouth..knocked 2 front teeth out and busted his lip
-
if so what did they do :)
Blutard the biggest injury was you being born you sack of shit.
-
I've been taken out of a gym in an ambulance. I dislocated my knee, couldn't pop it back in and a trainer called an ambulance. I didn't know he had called until the EMTs showed up. They told me they weren't allowed to mess with joint dislocations and would have to take me to the ER so a doctor could reset it. I'd dislocated that knee before and it popped right back into place.....this time I couldn't get it. While in the ER a random doctor saw me, told me to grit my teeth, grabbed the joint and popped it in and said, "Bill him."

I've seen guys induce micro trauma in their muscle fibres while lifting weights.

Dude I have more than I can remember, I worked at a gym all thru college:
We had a father/son dynamic duo; the dad would push the kid so hard it was actually sad. Poor kid would get his ass handed to him for 2-3 hours after school while his fat ass dad tried to relive his glory years thru his son. Anyway....the injuries:
-Dad was making the kid deadlift 450lbs (the kid was only 15-16 years old, but strong kid, looked like he was 25) kid tries to get it and missed, tried again and missed, tried a third time, misses and stands up. About two seconds later he just falls straight back and smacks the shit out of his head on a weight tree. Needless to say he was taken away in an ambulance. We talked to the dad, but he didn't care. No shit - his response was 'if he'd of breathed he wouldn’t of passed out'.
- Dad was making the kid squat 405. The kid asked his dad if he could try it next week b/c he knew he wouldn’t' get it. Kid goes down and falls forward, luckily the bar rolls over his head literally about 2 inches from landing and breaking the poor fu*kers neck.
-Jackass kid was going for 'Max Barbell Curls' with his buddies, tears his bicep.
I have so many more it's not even funny. Now that I look back I think like 50% of the members were retarded.

This is the typical "Son beats father to mush with a baseball bat" story in the making. All the neighbors will say "He was such a good boy, strange how that could happen".
-
No doubt dude...it was pretty sad.
I'm all about having kids exercise and stay active, but dude was only 16 years old and his dad is pissed b/c he can't get 450 deadlift? Get a grip.

George Farhah (sp?), the pro, was training at my gym for a while a few years ago.
Did not see it happen, but he was doing tricep over head extensions and the cable snapped, bar came back and cracked his skull. Had staples put in his head, not stitches, STAPLES! Took a pic after and saved it on his cell phone. Was talking about suing the gym but never heard anything about it after that...
Dude gets shot, gym equipment busting his head, maybe he is invincible!

Watched a guy at a gym a few years ago do calf raises on a leg press, but he had unracked the safety spots. Few reps in, his toes start to slide off, and he doesn't take the time to readjust them. Sure enough, sled comes flying down and leaves the guy with his knees behind his head and a couple hundred pounds landed smack on his ass.

ouch! :-\

a thread like this is always good for a few laughs.
seen anyone injure themselves lately ? unfortunately i havent >:(

if so what did they do :)
I saw a guy leaning all cool like on a barbell rack, you know the pose 1 arm fully extended the other flexing as he turns up his can of Amp, legs crossed. Well his hand slipped and he and the rack came crashing to the floor. The best part is how quick he recovered.
