Is it me, or it this utterly pointless. It always seems to be the guy blasting the 60's, who really focus on rolling their shoulders back. I'm pretty sure this isn't great for your rotator cuffs. I never roll my shoulders and my traps are pretty decent...strange? ;)
-
I finally agree with you. I hate it when I see guys do it this way. The movement is just like when you shrug your shoulders when you say "I don't know".
-
it's those gear-using libs.
-
Do it - rolling it is old-school ... fellow trainers will admire your hardcore attitude 8)
-
Kevin Levrone always rolled his shoulders while shrugging. Dumbell or Barbell.
-
Then Levrone suffered rotator cuff injuries that you have not heard about...or he was very lucky.
The best way to activate trapezoid muscle fibers and avoid 'working your joints' is to bring your shoulders up and back, and then straight down again. The motion varies a bit person to person, but circular motions can be very destructive.

Doesn't mean much. Most pros have horrid form, half reps, etc. They don't grow because of their "technique".

Rolling the shoulders simply doesn't hit anything better, therefore...pointless.

they grow because they receive unlimited supplements each month. Imagine how big you'd be if you could eat 5 tubs of creatine each month, Croatch!

lol yep thats it....... unlimited creatine ! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Battle for the Olympia 2000: Kevin Levrone's segment - he roll shrugs. ;)

For sure, but it doesn't mean much. I'd be sure that it leads to more injuries, than better trap development...that's the point.

That'd help you crap your brains out....

Tell that to Levrone...and he wasn't doing no 60's in M3.
-
Levrone would not be able to argue with basic anatomical science and biomechanics.
-
Total waste, traps to ears all the way up and all the way down, dont dip your chin to your chest
-
Agreed. On the way up, if you bring your shoulders back just a smidge, you will involve more posterior trapezoid and middle rhomboid fibers.

Battle for the Olympia 2000: Flex Wheeler's segment - dips chin into chest. ;)

Levrone shrugged while rolling his shoulders with 500 plus pounds in his DVD, He had some of the best traps in the sport. He never had shoulder problems that Im aware of. He did behind the neck presses with 400lbs on the smith machine too. Most people would have joint trouble from those two movements. Levrone did what worked for him and he came out ok.
-
Yes, but those results are anomalous, if, indeed, he did come out without injuries.

Rolling your shoulders is probably the worst thing you can do to your shoulders. I see these high school kids that pop dbols like tic tacs at the gym doing that shoulder roll.

wrong nder. rolling your shoulders is the best. shrug and pause at the top and roll.

DEbols like tic tacs?
Really? They are available in such quantities...and they are real??

Levrones traps would have been a lot smaller in M3 if he took less drugs.

Let me guess, you had your hardest shoulder workout ever when someone in the gym asked you which celebs you HAVEN'T met while you where holding some dumbells.... ::) ::)

WRONG, there sarge,, ask any physical therapist or trainer that is the WORST thing you can do. You have any idea how small your rotator cuff muscles are? You are supposed to try to bring your shoulders to the bottom of your ears.. Keep rolling your shoulders and see what happens ::) ::)

No monkeydong, nice try though. it is because I had nice big and very strong shoulders. Nice try, but someone like you shouldn't respond to a thread that involves discussing training since we all know what you look like. Stick to what you know about, planting flowers and Goodrum trivia.
-
hahahahhaa, "monkeydong". ;D
-
Doubt this man ever did shrugs, let alone rolled his shoulders. But he did deadlift plenty.Look at the 59sec mark.

Kazmaier did PLENTY of shrugs just like most powerlfters do, in his training manual he said he alternated heavy low rep workouts with higher 25-30 rep stuff.
-
I don't shrug. I'm going for the health look.

i fuckin eat alot of food bro........i just alot of cardio as well
-
I have seen experts divide the traps into trapezius I, II and III. You can hit the lower traps by bending forward more. Just shrug straight up, the torso angle makes the difference.

hahahhaa, that didn't answer my question.

Thanks for the great observation

Did you read what I said?
pause 2-3 seconds at the top and roll ::)
-
shrugs are a bullshit ego movement
if you want to hit the traps properly do overhead dumbell flyes.

Exactly.
Doing bent BB rows will hit the lower portions, when doing shrugs it's best to do them straight up and down. i like to hold at the top for a 1 second count.

Bingo. The shoulder girdle is one of the weakest links in the entire body. The shoulders should never rotate one tiny bit during a shrug movement IMO.
-
I tilt my body slightly forward, backward and straight up and down when I shrug to hit more of the muscle. The Trapezius muscle covers half your fucking back, not just the part that joins to your neck that everyone wants to look good.

Kevin lookin good doing shrugs. Thats some heavy weights!
-
I found doing dumbell upright rows works the best for my traps more than shrugs. I always did my heavy shrugs as the last exercise.

Correct, Pandaemonium.
I'd rather have a Knee replacement than a torn rotator cuff

Holy shit.
Now, those are traps and neck muscles.
-
???
for overhead dumbell flyes you keep shoulders and elbows locked out. Start with the weights fully overhead and lower to the sides to horizontal and raise back up. the traps function is analogous to the pecs, so just as you isolate pecs with flyes you isolate traps with overhead flyes.

you are right. i see no benefit with rolling the shoulders. i do like behind the back shrugs though
-
The question of rolling shoulders during shrugs is moot. Shrugs are a waste of time and energy. Deadlifts and bent rows provide all the trap work you need.
I'm pretty sure that most people do shrugs just as an ego exercise to be seen holding heavy dumbbells.
-
Croatch might have the best set of traps I've seen on a natural

Yes!
Shrugs are a great exercise.
Saying shrugs are unnecessary because bent rows work traps is like saying barbell curls are unnecessary because dumbell curls work bis too.

Isn't it more like saying not to do barbell curls because chins works them too?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA before I even opened the thread I had a quick response.
Rolling shoulders is completely useless!
I always get on my friend about it, he reads to much Muscle & Fitness ;D

You're a little smartass, smaul... ;D ;D ;D
I think you got my point.
Fuck yeah, you're right and i was wrong. ;D ;D
Let's admit our failures and make getbig a place of love and harmony. ;D
