Yah, haha! Now he can say "Those who claim I charge $20 for taking a photo.. it's utter bullshit!!"
-
only a tool would want a signed autograph from him.

i never understood why grown men want an autograph of someone.
-
I actually wonder if he still uses aas

Serious question: does anybody know if any other luminaries of the bb world charge for their autographs at the Arnold or Olympia?

if theyre not, they're stupid
lou is showing the way, if everybody else followed it wouldnt be the norm and everybody would earn from it.
more money into bodybuilding. more support for the sport.
-
or meet them, see them, talk to them, train with them, or read about them
i can imagine people want to get on a picture with a pro, but just buying a stupid picture with "for Butch, train hard. your brother in iron Ronnie Coleman" is just plain pathetic.

Sergio Oliva charge $20 for an 8 x 10 and I think it was around $50 for a poster. And Louie at those comic conventions sells a few hundred pictures in 3 or 4 days. So he isn't doing to bad there and he gets paid to be there. Not bad money. Adam West and Burt Ward went to those shows back in the 80's and they were getting $20 a picture and told me at one show they would sell 1000 pics.

Thanks, Onlyme

maybe Butch wouldn't train hard if Ronnie didn't tell him to?

That is pretty damn good for 50 y/o, show me ANY other 50 year old that looks that good (Robby does not count).
I actually wonder if he still uses aas
Lou goes on one big cycle once a year-usually during summer.

$20 bucks in the 80's would be equal to $50 bucks today, and Lou aint selling 1000's of pics.... he might make some spare change but he is not making much from it.
-
Does he have to pay roayalties to Marvel or Universal?
-
"Louie, one day you'll have a back like they've never seeeeeeen before."

Hi alex!! ;)
-
That is pretty damn good for 50 y/o, show me ANY other 50 year old that looks that good (Robby does not count).
LOL why doesn't Robby count? Because he's also over 50 and looks better? ::)
-
Louie looks very good there-especially for his age. I don't think he's on a big cycle there. Check him out during the early 90's during his Mr. O comeback weighing over 280-290 cut. That's what he looks like on a big cycle. He may be on a small replacement dose now of test, but that's about it.
-
Chem, what would you say he weighs in at there?
I agree...probably on HRT, like Zane is. Some test and a few grains of thyroxin per day.
-

Exactly! ;D

250#, which is small for 6'5

Lou was training in contest shape at Gold's Venice at 315# when preparing for the 92? Olympia.

I am sure he isn't selling a thousand autographs at a BB expo but at that one huge comic book convention (i can't remember the name) I would think he would sell 1000 or at least close. Those guys are hardcore collectors and people like that spend money.

I would agree with that. It's also funny that bodybuilding's pinnacle competition does not compare to a comic con. It reminds me of poker champions who win more than Mr. Olympia.
-
A very good friend of mine, Ron Garney, is now one of the top artists at Marvel.
He goes to these conventions and fans line up around the block to get his autograph.
You are right...these people spend the money at these things.
You can go to any comic rack and find Ron's work...he is penciling Spiderman and X-Men right now.
Funny note: we used to bounce in bars in college...and the less educated bouncers would tell Ron to give up the art work and 'get a real job'...you know how the rest of this story goes....

How much money does your friend rake in? Is the price structure roughly the same as Lou's?
-
No, he is paid by Marvel, so he doesn't charge individuals at Comic Cons. He does do independent projects but am unsure of his income there. He is one of Marvel's top guys and makes great $.
-
There are a couple guys on here that draw comic. Sexual Mustard is unreal and he too does work with Marvel I think. I saw his website but I forget what it is . very impressive
-
Rock on!
-
Very cool Chick.
My father took me to a flea market when I was 14...gave me 5 bucks...told me to meet him back at his car in an hour (this is when you could walk around as a little kid and not get moilested).
I found an old guy selling tools...on the corner of his table was a stack of comics.
I asked him, "how much"
He said, "5 bucks, kid".
So I took one...he told me to takle the stack cause he wanted to get rid of them
In that stack was Spider man #1...which I still have today as one of my prized possessions....

Cool stuff, mike. How long has your friend been doing spiderman? Read those comics when I was a kid. Great memories.

Which "Spider man #1"... The first appearance of Spiderman was "Tales of Fantasy #15"
The Spiderman tales did so well that they launched "The Amazing Spiderman" in 1963... If you have that book... It's a great find and almost impossible to come by.
If you have a "Tales of Fantasy #15"... you're blessed by the gods.

;D
;D ;D ;D

He looks literally retarded. Look at his sneakers. Dead giveaway
-
Lou does look great for a guy close to 60 though.

Ron has been with them for nearly 20 years...yeah, I still have all of mine, thankfully.

Yeah...in a funny way, probably best investment I ever made...

Not in great shape....had it appraised at 11K...mint condition is much more....I know a dealer who has 15 of them!

I would guess about 235-240 at 6'5".

I doubt there's much demand for a washed up old assholes like Lou.

You mean 'Amazing Fantasy'...that I do not have.
I have Amazing #1, still something I would never, ever part with. I have all Amazings up to #300. Other than my house and practice, my most cherished collection. :)

When I'm in Toronto, I sometimes stop in at comic/collectible store, The Silver Snail, just to see the neat stuff for sale. Some of it is incredible. They have some of the rare(r) comics framed and hanging on the wall. If I collected them, that's what I'd do. Chicks hate that kind of shit. ;)
/do you think what ones you'd grab in case of fire? I have nightmares about that.

If you're lucky, you can get this guy's autograph at The Classic - for free! 8)

We have a great 1926 World Series ball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. I am taking pics of it tomorrow and will have it up on the site. If you know anyone who collects this stuff contact me. If they buy it I will pay you a commission. We have everything right here. Just trying to dump stuff now cause it is getting to be too much. A lot of artwork and jerseys, bats, balls etc. Hollywood stuff I have not put up yet.

A lot of people do that if they can get the money. I think at BB shows not too many people are interested in paying for an autograph from a BB. It is the BB's who have made a name for themselves outside of BB that have a little more power to charge money. That is why Lou does it. Lou is not famous for being a BB or in Pumping Iron. He is famous around the world for one thing and that is being the Hulk. He is milking it for all its worth which is something not many people can do. People make fun of him charging for an autograph but if he can get it why not. Over the past 30 years how much money do you thnk he has made selling his autograph. I bet a lot of money. And it is all gravy money too.

Hey, Chick, aren't you getting a part in the upcoming Mr America movie? whenever that is

I'd pay for autographs from any of the Golden AGE guys...Draper, etc...not todays guys, though...although I'd still be very respectful.

Sheeeooot...Chimpy, I dunno....that would be a catastrophe...I have about 900 total...I'd grab photos, irreplaceable stuff like that...and my cat, of course. She's been with me for years...very dependable...moreso than any woman has ever been for me...

Maybe he charges not so much because he's a bodybuilding celebrity but because he is/was a TV celebrity and feels he should be recognized (via monetary) as such. :-\

Lou usually has a fair line going at Comic-Con. Keep in mind that 99% of the people there have no idea that Lou sued his brother or that his book was whiny and hard to read for more than 10 minutes. When you see him there the first time, he cuts an imposing figure, so of course you're going to go up to him. I first met him 10 years ago at Con, and was really excited to tell him how great he looked at the 92-93 Olympias. Of course, it only took about 30 seconds to realize he had no interest in talking, and just wanted my $20.
