Is that Mike Katz, god he looks like shit. To think him and Arnold were a similar age, Arnold looks about 20 years younger albeit the plastic surgery and hair plugs...lol

Mike's kindness and the fact that he has accomplished more for himself and on behalf of others than anyone I know transcends the supposition that he may not look like he was when he was a world class bb.
-
1) Competing in master's at 40, on same stage I started on 25 years earlier...Katz was MC at both shows
2) At 22, 1bout 188 pounds here
-

Fair call, but that is a big statement! It is not as though Katz is out there trying to find a cure for cancer or something.
He was a Pro who used steroids and then went on to judge....can't say 'it' is that amazing!
-
sorry...this should have been the photo in the first pic above....

Well, Hank, I am simply juxtaposing the fact that there is usually a certain decorum to saying something nice about someone.
Remember, when you say something not nice, would it not figure that there should also be something good to say, too?
-
Great pics. I like how Mike Katz is totally rocking the Peter Boyle Young Frankenstein-era look. ;)
-
I agree, but unfortunately the world we live in isn't sugar coated. Opinions, thoughts and ideas can be both negative and positive.
In my opinion Katz was a pretty ordinary human being who hasn't really made a great impact on the sport.
Great photos by the way, you have had a very interesting life!
-

Got any of a young Bob Chick?
I do, Hank. They go along with the scoresheet at top of thread. Will scan and post...you will be impressed...

Thanks, Hank. I have lots more cool stuff to post and share. Guess we can thank the fact that I am unable to work for a while, and am going NUTS with not much to do!!!

Always a smartass; usually with respect; rarely malicious. :)

-
hahah Bob looks better at 15 than Vince did when he won Mr. Raccoon Skin Cap 1763.
-
Bob, you look awesome at 15. The conditioning is unbelievable!
-
Genetics and all this was 10years before he took an illegal Drug.A time to be proud I guess.

-
Bob, you look awesome at 15. The conditioning is unbelievable!
Believe me, I remember himn vividly then ...he was only 15, me 17...and he looked like the physique of a 19 year old.....and the 1-3 placers looked equally impressive
-
Thats quite a bulge Chic is sporting there. See what abusing roids does. ;D ;D
-

Classic 80's look, that was the best era in bodybuilding.
-
Thanks Mark.
Yes, I agree, I enjoyed the 80's the most.
-
moosejay-looking good
-
Thanks, Lamperpighterx, much appreciate your praise.
Mike
-
15 years old?
What a beast.
-
Bob, you look absolutely unbelievable in that shot.
Only 15 years old, truly remarkable.
What was your training regime like back then? Your diet, protein intake etc?
I still cant believe how massive and ripped you were at that very young age!

I couldn't believe it either, Hank, and I stood right next to him in the lineup at 17 and he smoked me and most others older than him.

I trained 6 days a week, bodyparts 2X a week, 20-24 sets per bodypart, reps at 8-10
No dieting, no cardio, no supplements....school lunches and whatever mom was making for dinner.

Chick, who was inspiration back then?
Again, amazing physique for such a young person.. Now when you speak of 'genetics for bodybuilding', i will accept that 'you know' what you are talking about!

1981- 15 years old

Chick, you had to be juicing in that 1981 pic..there is no way a 15 year old could carry that much muscle at that BF level....be honest.
-
Great pics Mike.. thanks for sharing
-
Very unlikely Chick was juicing there....stringent drug test...and I estimate out of 100+ entrants at that show, maybe 10% were sauced.
-
Great pics Mike.. thanks for sharing
My pleasure and honor, AVBG, I will have more up tomorrow as my energy permits,
Mike
-
Not juicing at all! Look totally natural.
Probably rates as the most amazing pic of a 15 year old ever. Way to go Chick, you must be very proud of that time in your life!
-
damn chick you were hopped up roids at 15!!!!
-
Good stuff, Moose! You were one hell of a great teen bodybuilder, Bob. Did you play any sports while in school?
-
damn chick you were hopped up roids at 15!!!!
No.
By saying this you are negating the potential of every 15 year old out there.
By thinking a 15 year old cannot look like this without juice, speaks that you yourself do not think that doing so would be within you.
-
And Moose, just keep posting. Photos like this are rare.
You are really adding something special to this site.
Keep it going, you are an amazing resource, with fascinating stories. You come across as a really honest and 'down to earth' person. I would like to see photos of Frank and his family/house/gyms if possible.
Best wishes for your health.

Bro...please...it would be another 6 years before I would start any supps.
I routinely went into Natural shows, as well as regular NPC competitions.....the only "juice" I had working, was orange at school.
-

Sure did..football, baseball, wrestling

Thanks Hank. Yes, I have got some really good ones of Frank, his house, his home gym, his work shop where he makes his musical instruments, and much other stuff of other luminaries from nearly a 30 year span since I was 14.
Will keep posting, a little each day,
Mike

my bad chick, strong work then, i sincerely take that back, wish i had the same genetics.....
No problem, bro....
Genetics were excellent when it came to response to weights....and I was consistant as possible..never missed a workout
-
chick do you still maintain that same consistancy in the gym today with all the traveling you do? the pic of you by you new escalade would tell me yes, but with your genetics i imagine you will hold alot of size if you weren't training as consistant as if you were still competing
-

Well if you were natural you were the best 15 y/o BBer in the history of BBing......... I still cannot believe you were only 15....much less all natural. Well I believe it, but you are a gentic freak.
-
You went from having this incredible physique at just 15 years of age, to this 'absolutely awesome' build now! I saw photos of Arnold at 16 and you just blow him out of the water.
I tell you what Chick, if you were around in Arnold's day he would have nothin on you!
I never believed genetic freaks existed, now i do. Chick you have the most incredible stucture.
-
Sure did..football, baseball, wrestling
did they drug test ;D Just kidding buddy.
-

-

-
My pleasure...more to come
-
chick,
how big were your arms at 15 years old? hard to tell since your not standing next to anyone and their lean.....come on tell the truth no adding in extra inches either ;D
-
Well, amazingly, I have had a very blad slew of various health problems...all hit me at once, including heart and ortho, but I am happy to dsay I am making forward progress.

Larry Tyler was a good friend of mine.............could have gone really far if he wanted to.
He had Jeff King, and Rich Roy in his corner as well as Aceto and Matt Dufresne..............gr eat times and he`s doing good today but no longer trains.

-
Moosejay, I'm really enjoying your old pictures. I notice you said you trained at Yeagers Gym and you competed in Illinois. I was judging and competing in Illinois around that time (still do, in fact). I probably saw you at some of the competitions back then.
-
Melanoma...caught it early...very curable when such
Yea, extremely high success rate at curing it when it's caught early. Great to hear you got it sorted out fast.
-
Yes...I always have...but I now embrace life with more thirst than I ever have before...
-

Again...thank you all for your kind words.
All at once, I was diagnosed with melanoma...had heart surgery, and fell on ice and wrecked my arm where I have had to have wrist sx, rotator cuff total reconstruction, and one more wrist surgey to go...
I mean, I am well insured...but it is not fun hemorrhaging business money...losing tons of patients, time, and growth from my marketing business.
But...something always tells me I will rise again.
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems...
-
didnt u say u had a tanning bed?
Yeah...could be the prob...gave it away...
-

Yes...Steve and Mark Yeager...I loved that place...is now a Poerhouse...I still get out there to see friends and whatnot...competed a lot out there...Illinois, Illinois Srate, Collegiates...probably went in 10-12 shows while at National College in Lombard...
Mike
-
Alkso did several shows at Glkenbard East HS...promoted by Yeager's Gym....in the 87 Novice Illinois...Yeager's had about 30 entrants rep their gym...inc me...out of about 100 competitors...Diego Martinez was a huge guy back then...if you recall.,
Phil Rhode trained there...former AAU A class winner...Paula Duvic trainbed there...top NPC women bb...many many others...Phil Claussen....many coming to mind...
-
Yep, I know all those people. I trained at Hamarz Gym in Chicago Ridge with Chuck Sanow, John Gust and Jill O'Connor. I won the '86 NPC Illinois and guest posed and was the head judge at most of the shows in the late '80's and early 90's.
-
Yup, I know Chuck and if that is the case then you def judged me quite a few times....used to also train at Grove Gym In Downer's Grove and Chicago health Club as well in Oakbrook .,..man I'd give anything to go back to those days....
-

I knew Rich Loresch pretty well and I did a couple seminars at Grove Gym. Rich helped set me up with some guest posings and got me into judging shows back in the late '80's.

Yeah...I used to go in Loresch's shows...his gym was not much to it...but kind of place you'd be happy to have a hard workout in...if it was in existence today I'd still join...
-
Bob, you look awesome at 15. The conditioning is unbelievable!
best 15 year old bb ever...some one put this up next to Arnold at 15, please
