I SWEAR that Dream Tan hides your cuts.  2-3 coats of Pro Tan work a lot better, IMO

Totally agree.  Dream Tan smooths people out like nothing else.

I was at a show this weekend where bodybuilders were melting all over the stage from Dream Tan, and there were guys that you knew were shredded, but you couldn't see a single striation on them.  Dream Tan has negatively affected placings for so many competitors...I strongly recommend people to stay away from it.

People use it a lot in montreal, if applyed correctly I think it looks great and doesn't hide cuts

the thing is that dream tan is so thick that you only have to put a tiny tiny bit on the skin and rub is over the largest region possible
Title: Re: is it DREAM TAN that BAD...!!!
Post by: ripitupbaby on May 06, 2008, 12:49:48 PM
It can be "okay" if it's applied as a very thin top coat over a lot of Pro Tan or some other color that sinks into the skin.  The worst thing a competitor can do IMO is rely only on Dream Tan for color.  It will never get you dark enough unless you get it on really thick, and it doesn't absorb into the skin, so putting it on thick is just a recipe for melting on stage.

You look darker in the first pic..without the tan applied. Some guys look better dry...like Cutler for example.

Dream Tan is banned at some contests in the UK - the competitors have to use ProTan instead which is markedly better. I'm not sure why it's banned though - I just read it somewhere - I think it depends on the federation or the actual location.

Because it gets on everything at the venue and it's a bitch to clean up.

Ah yes, I thought it was something like that - I've actually seen venues that allow it but to compensate they line the walls in the changing areas with polythene.

Dream Tan is the only thing I sell in my shop and its the best way to look like a million bucks onstage.  The person who applied it was a complete idiot and didn't know what he was doing.

Here's the best way to use Dream Tan.

1.  Put a few drops of mineral oil in the Dream Tan and mix it good.  This gives you a much better sheen and keeps it thin so it doesn't cover up your definition

2.  The morning of the event, put on the Dream Tan liberally...just slab it on, bath in it, etc.

3.  Put on a sweatshirt and sweatpants.  Don't use any good ones as they are going to be ruined and go on with your day.  This allows the Dream Tan to soak into the skin good and blend nicely

4.  One hour before the event simply take off the sweats and have someone touch it up with more Dream Tan.

That's it.

sami were you using the red/bronze or the brown?  After seeing countless competitors on stage they seem to prefer that color.  It helps if you pre-mix the oil into and let it sit for a bit before applying it.

Dreamtan is the worst shit in the world to use for a show...guaranteed to cover up any definition/ I actually had a guy arguing with me some time ago that it was soooooooo god that his buddy used it to cover up his tatoos...couldn't even se them..!LOL

Nothing like a pasty, dull hue to make you look your softest on stage.

I have to disagree with you.  Dream Tan applied correctly can show more definition than Pro-Tan.  Its just that too many people have the idea that you can apply it 1 hour before an event without doing anything else and they usually end up putting it on too thick.

Its more to do with inexperience with the product in the US as most contests here forbid it.

The best thing to do is to call the promoter first anyway to check all the details of the show not just for tan products but for everything

Being that Protan is alcohol based...nothing that applies like a paste and has a pastel golden hue can do anything but make you look smoother and softer...just a matter of the wayb the light bounce of of reflective surfaces...doesn't absorb.

Like I said...there's a reason the pro's don't use it

I use Hawaii Tropic Dark Tanning Oil for shows.

Also not a good idea in the future...too thick. Will make you look smoother than whatever condition you are in. Posing oil is much lighter and will allow you to sweat through it...

Dream tan is a make-up whereas Pro Tan is a tint.

The difference is that Dream tan sits on the skin (as all other make-ups) and Pro Tan is soaked up by the skin and thus doesn't sit on it.

For that reason, Dream tan can hide cuts. If it is applied too thick, even slightly, it will reduce separation by basically ''filling the gaps'' between the muscles.

It can be used effectively but it has to be applied very thin; even the slightest excess will blur definition. Plus, the fact that it sits on the skin can create the illusion of water retention.

As Stavios mentionned, it works better on some guys than others. The only guys it works well with are those who have super deep separations (e.g. Flex Wheeler at his peak... tremendously round and separated muscle bellies) but even then it can hide definition if abused.

A lot of guys like it because contrary to Pro Tan, it washes right off (since it doesn't penetrate the skin). And for some reasons, the color it provides is very popular in Europe.

But there is no doubt that it can reduce the look of a physique.

That explains a few things.  I was going by the instructions in Perfect Posing.  I also noticed in your World Class Physique DVD that you cheat when you're doing your side relaxed poses.  I tried it and although it makes the waist much leaner, it hurts like hell to do it

Kegdrainer, until you step onstage and actually compete you have no idea what you are talking about

I learned how to pose from the Perfect Posing instructional tapes which I followed to a T including the use of Hawaii Tropic Tanning Oil.  Apparantly Chick says its too thick and from the night show I did, I had way too much glare so I have to agree with him on that.

I'll have to reconsider what I use but as far as Dream Tan is concerned, I feel if applied on correctly and very thinly instead of doing a rush job, it can make you look awesome.  A lot of people buy it from my store but mostly international.

In the 80's, I used this combination:

Tea
Baby oil
PPT hair dye-brown color...not made anymore

Mixed that together, hit the tanning bed

Finished with a coating of a cosmetic called 'Indian Earth' powder (do not think its made anymore).

I was rarely the best bb at the 60 shows I was in...but I ALWAYS had the best tan.

since you know jack shit about me i will let that slide.  i have been involved in bodybuilding promotions and shows for the last 8 years.  Your competitive record is nothing to clap about.  Your best pics on stage look like a prank, like you had some vendetta against the promoter and you got up there to embarass the organization intentionally.  Watching some posing tapes?  Please...you should be working with someone who has won some competitions, and maybe knows how to critique your form as you practice in front of a mirror.  This is how you get better at posing.

Why don't you try going to the gym and lifting some weights before you talk shit.

Vince how about training with weights.  Have you tried that.  No oil or anything will make you look any better.  Seriously, are you fucking blind??  The absolute last thing on the list (of many) you should worry about is what you put on that covering around your fat.  Try training.  You have NO muscle.  My down pillows have more muscle than you.  Hope this helps.

There's Dream Tan #1 and Dream tan #2.In most parts of Asia dream tan #1 is banned because it gives a strange golden/greenish tint under the lights.Dream tan #2 on the other hand gives a more natural tanned colour. But both if over applied will hide all your definition as it is patroleum based and will sit on the surface of the skin.
There is ano brand that i can't recall which is Australian made and used a lot by Lee Priest. Will try looking up the name and website for it.Fabulous stuff and doesn't blur you out!

i usually end up using 2 bottles and then some. i'll brush the first one or two coats on for the base. spray it the rest of the way. no shower between coating days- i find i lose too much of it. maybe some PAM backstage the morning of.

Honestly Goodrum what drug do you take in the morning.  NOTHING on earth or has ever been invented could help you look good.  NOTHING!  The only thing you have, is the natural ability of looking like shit and sucking dick.  You really need to realize your place.  And the last one is on stage.  Is it true that you only enter BB contests to see if you can catch a glimpse of the guys backstage?
