I believe that Shawn was the most complete bodybuilders of not only the 1990's, but of all time. Definitely one of the most symmetrical. He competed in the wrong era though. He could have beaten Zane, Columbo, Dickerson and would beat Gutler today. Possibly Yates too in 1994 and Coleman in the early 2000's.

As a bodybuilder, his is one of my top-10 physiques of all time. Incredible. Sometimes his quads could be slightly "square", but this is nitpicking to the extreme.
I read a comment somewhere that Ray's wheels could have been his "crazy bodypart" (ala Platz) if he wasn't concerned with proportion, etc. I agree. And like Tom, Shawn was a natural squatter. He just never went bananas like The Golden Eagle.
Ray was born out of time, no question. He is an uncrowned Mr. Olympia.

Shawn looked incredible, however i always thought his front lat spread looked strange...almost squashed up.

Shawn and Lee Labrada were both VERY impressive. They both NEVER tried to chase the monsters around them for size and were unfortunately penalized for it.
Shawn was WAY MORE complete than 3 time Mr. Olympia Frank Zane, or Chris Dickerson. His 2nd place was respectable, but it was a slap in face that he could never be #1 because of his lack of bodyweight and height.

Actually his career makes more sense then any other pro: He won a low pro show then the Arnolds, second best show, then focused on the Olympia. So you can say he won only 2 pro shows or you can say the only show he didn't win was the Olympia, afterall taylor, cormier, and Charles are all multiple show winners and they aren't considered as great as Ray.

Well, if you have seen the DVD 'Inside and Out' and many of his interviews he always explains he thought he won in 1994. Infact he said he was so depressed after that contest d because he thought he won no doubt. Apparently he 'retired that night'.

how about..from the front...biceps (long, unpeaked, unexceptional), triceps looks small. pecs sat way too high giving apparent lack of thickness on lower pecs. Abs disappeared. Thighs blocky.
from the rear his rear lat spread and double bi was excellent..no doubt. abs and thigh was better than front double bi but the blocky legs were evident. Side chest exposed his pecs as too high again.
i admired SR's physique but always believed he got the right placings. far from the best, most complete BB in my book. That belongs to Dex, Arnold, Labrada and Levrone.
Arnold for his era, labrada for completeness and presentation, levrone for his earlier years until his legs went and Dex these days...arguably the best front double bi ever- along with the Oak.
