Title: Too much emphasis on the "last 10%"/ Dexter idea
Post by: Howard on May 27, 2008, 01:57:45 PM
I think it is fair to say that a  good basic routine and sound nutrition are the keys to making gain
 ( genetics aside).
It amazes me how so many young guys, spend so much time , $$ and effort on all the little stuff, like supplements and specific cable moves , etc
I read a response recently from Dexter Jackson to a young guy that wrote in about getting better chest.
Hard to say if it was ghostwritten , but it made a great point.
Dexter's basic idea was that until you had some actual muscle thickness and could push some decent wt, etc , the little stuff didn't really matter. Doesn't make much sense to do tons of cable crosses to "refine" a chest with little pec muscle.
Look at legends like Arnold, Ronnie and Yates. They all did basic stuff and busted their butts on it.
Same with fat loss. It is pretty obvious that a consistant cardio regime and strict diet will yeild better results than just buying some fat burner -thermogenic. I know that some of these products help, but it is obvious to me that at least 90% of the result would be from the cardio and diet.
Why do so many spend so much time and effort on all the little crap, when they should focus on what gets you the first 90%?

cable crossovers seem to be the chest movement of choice for homosexuals and 'under-armour' officianados

LOL< I have nothing against cross overs, but I am sick of hearing the bennefits of "twisting testicle flys" over "flat fart ones" , etc. Just lift the damn wt, get a pump etc

you guys are SO right, the chest muscle fibers definitely know the difference between when they are contracting while doiing cable crossovers compared to when they are contracting during the bench press.     ;)

If big words like "if" and "so" were used then yes, it was probably ghostwritten.

To be honest a "Professional" Bodybuilder would be the last person from whom I would seek advice, the average trainee in the gym probably knows more about the basics of training...

This is true, however for best fat burning results drugs are usually the answer, hence the term "All Drugs".

more weight is moved through the bench press than cable crossovers; more weight means bigger muscles

in the same way that you will get bigger doing bodyweight dips than dumbbell kickbacks

I always stress that too - that nutrition matters over anything else.  Not that I apply it consistently, but I do make it abundantly clear that it is most important.

Hey smart guy, would you give Dexter your racist thoughts if you met him person?  Hahahaha, probably not coward.

Hey smart guy, would you give Dexter your racist thoughts if you met him person?  Hahahaha, probably not coward.

First of all, my thoughts aren't racist.  Secondly, of course I would.  I've discussed these issues in person with people of numerous races so far and will continue to do so.  And notice how the only example like this is used when it is a white person going up to a black person.

hmm...are you subtly implying that Dexter (or other black men) would be more inclined to respond to controversial ideas with VIOLENCE, rather than engaging in intellectual discourse?  And I'M the racist?  LOL.

Please note that replies like that of emn1964 bait me.  I never bring up anything to begin with.  I (sometimes) reply to garbage like this.  So for those of you saying it is ME who brings these things up - SHUT UP.  I never do.

"I see dumb people."  :o :o :o

Did you not say that blacks have less intellectual capacity than whites?  And I did not say that Dexter would respond with violence, that was your racist thought, not mine.  The reality is that you would never have the balls to spew your racist and antisemetic bullshit to a black or a jew in person because you are a coward.

when is pointing out genetic differences considered racism?  Saying that blacks are better at basketball but can't spell,  and koreans kick our asses at math but always have dumb haircuts, and indians are good at physics but have poor personal hygeine...so i guess im a racist then?

while i'm at it, show me one area of the world where white people are still barefoot in the jungle with their cocknballs hanging out, blowing poison darts at wild animals to catch their dinner.

'isolation' exercises are good too.  You can go to muscle failure with them, just like any. So obviously they work the muscles well.

I stopped at cable crosses. They don't "refine" anything.

Howard you make a good point. I just had this skinny little dude (60kg) ask me what he could do to hit his lower chest. Dude has no chest so I told him work on the basics until he can see his pecs, then we can worry about the details. I get it everyday so Dexter or his ghost writers advice is spot on!

PS This is not ghost written.

I pointed out studies that graphically demonstrate the differences between brain sizes amongst the races.  Read that however you want - I'm just pointing out scientific fact.

And yes, you subtly implied that Dexter would respond with violence.  I notice examples asking me to bring up my opinions are generally geared towards black people.  Why didn't you say "Go up to Bob Cicherillo and tell him you think black people are superior runners" or something along those lines?

Is it that you subconsciously believe that white people can accept such controversial comments but black people cannot?  I want you to answer that.
