Title: 400 Pounds flat bench, 50 reps without stopping....
Post by: Moosejay on June 25, 2008, 07:36:55 PM
Is what Sergio Oliva claims he did in his recently self-published autobiography.

Anyone here believe this could be possibly true?

I'd have to agree. I was not sure at first because it is, after all, Sergio, however, I don't think ANYONE could ever do this.

How does the rest of the book read in terms of believability?

Seeing as Ronnie Coleman benches 225 for around 75 reps, and is more than likely FAR stronger than Oliva at his peak....I gotta call bullshit. Major bullshit.

Horrible.

Oliva does himself absolutely no favors.

He contradicts so many things he has said in the past, as though he has forgotten many truths.

He calls racism, for instance, when Arnold beats him in the 70 O, when Oliva had won the past three and beaten white guys.

Terribly written, grammar is horrible.

Wish I could say something positive, but he is VERY disingenuous in this 'book'.

Did he use a ghostwriter?

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to waste my hard earned money on something else.

50 reps at 400 would give Segio a 1 rep max of 900 pounds, in the 60's.

If ANYONE buys that bullshit they are retarded fools.

 10-12 reps MAX with 400

No way. Not even 20.

If DW did hit 23 reps he would have video taped it and posted it....

I would be surprised if he could get 15 reps with that weight - maybe 10 or 12 at a push but 50? Ha - we have another world-record claiming liar on our hands.

Sergio is a true legend and the very defintition of "freak of nature"...but this is Bullshit with a capital B. I could believe 10 reps at this weight but not much more.

The best I have seen was Aussie, Rod Sylvia press 400 for 20 reps and he was a world champion bench presser at the time, single rep about 650 from memory.

I have always been a Sergio fan but that is delusional.

the race card is the favorite excuse for blacks....something isn't given to them, must be racism

Racism or not..he DID beat Arnold a few times only to get stiffed..imo.

I'd be surprised if he got more than say 5-8 reps per set with 400-405lbs. Jeremy Hoornstra who is nearly, if not the best 242lb class bench presser in the World right now only gets in the 20-25 rep range with 405.

As much as I like Sergio and I don't like calling bullshit on claims that are even close to being true.  I gotta say this one is way off.  Kaz told me he had done 405 for 28 was his top so I doubt Sergio was stronger than Kaz

Is that how Sergio got the label "THE MYTH?

Wonder what his bwt was at that time when he rep'ed out the 400? Of course with advance Weider training he might have done it back in the olden day's.

1.)Wonder what his bwt was at that time when he rep'ed out the 400?

2.)Of course with advance Weider training he might have done it back in the olden day's.

1.)Two weeks out from contest.

2.) He used the pre-exhaust and "muscle-confusion" principles.

Why is anyone even discussing this bullshit?

I heard the book totally sucks and the 400-50 reps is only one indication why.

It was hardly professionally done...much like Tom Minichiello's..'Bodybuilders, Drugs and Sex....'

Guess I should not have posted it...it seemed so incredible that I thought it MAY have been true.....

Let me guess he did it while he was home alone in his basement  ::)

It's probably true.  If it's on paper, it's truth.  Beside, I usually rep out 400lbs for 30 reps, as a nice warm up for my chest routine. ::)
