Title: candidizzle--Fructose
Post by: SilverSpoon on July 02, 2008, 01:23:55 PM
You seem to be anti-fructose.
May I ask why?
Dan Duchaine used to be very anti-fructose, as he claimed it would make it very hard for one to lose fat around the middle.

On the flip side, Rheo Blair advocated a very high fat/protein diet (the grandfather of Atkins style dieting, and a legitimate nutrition genius, imho), but thought that his finest protein supplement was the high fructose protein supplement that was not out for very long.

A fairly well respected supplement company, Healthy 'N Fit, uses fructose in a lot of their products.

What is your opinon?

small amounts of fructose on a low carb diet can be beneficial because it will help preserve muscle glycogen and it will lower circulating insulin levels

thats why the high protein hgih fat guy liked it, i imagine

someone on a normal bodybuilding diet has no use for fructose or fruits, since all carbohydrates can fill liver glycogen, while fructose can only be used by the liver, and the liver is very small and spills over very easily...

Hit medline and search for 'fructose insulin resistance' for example.

Dude, at the dawn of the internet days (1997), Getbig was one of the first places I ever found that had decent information.

I then thought I knew it all, so I stopped posting for years.

Now I'm back.  I never stopped training, but now I'm re-committed to the original notions of this "sport" we all seem to love/hate.

McFarland knows who I am, where I'm from, what I'm about, so it's all good.

Candid likes to stay in the Anabolic halo at all times, he believes fructose may prevent the immolation of his body fat and hinder the anabolic frenzy going on within his body after one of his brutal workouts.

Okay, this leads to yet another question then.  If someone is on a "normal bodybuilding diet", what carbs do they eat?
When does one go (in your mind) from being on a low carb diet to a "normal bodybuilding diet"?
Because, I must say from my anecdotal experience, that since Dr. Mauro DiPasquale first came around the block, the "traditional" bodybuilder diet became much less used, and fats became favorable.

I am not looking to refute you, or necessarily to debate you.  Just looking for a healthy discussion.

BTW, many now consider palm and coconut oil to be favorable fats.  See:  www.tropicaltraditions.c om

normal bodybuilding carbs = low fat slow digesting carbs like oats, beans, ezekiel bread, maybe some brown rice, maybe some whole wheat bread...

i think low carb is good for naturals who are trying to boost testosterone levels, and i think low carb is good for FAT FAT FATTY'S with lots of weight to loose...i think you go from

i think for a lean body bodybuilder the high protein high carb low fat diet (witth supplemental omega-3) is gonna be the best choice

I had eggs, bacon and ezekiel bread for b-fast.
Had a can of tuna (in olive oil) with Ezekiel toast for lunch.
Just been sippin' on Isopure (50g) now.

i dont know if i would combine eggs bacon and carbs...saturated fat lower insulin sensitivty and insulin stores ingested fat in adipose... so youll have more insulin meaning not only will the fat get stored but also theres a chance some glucose spills over into adipoe as well..

I'm pretty lean right now at 198 or so.
I need more muscle, to be honest, as I am 6 feet tall (probably 6'1" actually).
And by "pretty lean", I mean under 12%.

then i think you are best suited for high carb high protein low fat diet ! (as long as your training hard, you are sensible with your portions, and you dont eat starchy carbs too late at night)

a lean person needs to eat starch in order to avoid cortisol production and to keep thyroid out put high

plus, a lean person produces much less insulin

and,

as long as you are training hard, much of what you eat will be stored in the muscle as glycogen and youll burn alot of fat around your workouts because of this
