it must suck not to be able to have a porsche or beamer, but still have to wear a suit and tie to work in a mid 90's Ford explorer. Geez. Are u kidding me how depressing is ur life
-
What does it matter what you drive to work.
Bet that 90's Explorer is paid for???
-
One of my bosses in a place i used to work at drove a Ford Explorer that was over 10 years old and even had some rust on it, and he made about 400k per year.

lol you've fallen for the trap.
I'm always looking for older reliable cars namely Mercedes and BMW's. I'm not interested in American autos. If you can have a nice older car and have a new one that is great. If that is all someone can afford instead of riding a bus, who cares?

everyone can't be a 500 pound benchpressing multimillionaire like you mate.

it matters. IT MATTERS BIG TIME.

the ride is you! you are the ride!... some shit like that! hahahaha

absolutely.

you do realize many smart business men drive, relative crap to work and have 2 or 3 + luxury/sport cars they drive when they aren't at work right?
-
Last thing you want to do is drive a car worth 75k to work when your employees are making half of that.
I'm guessing the OP means workers when he says "business people", not owners.
-
you do realize many smart business men drive, relative crap to work and have 2 or 3 + luxury/sport cars they drive when they aren't at work right?
Why would you buy a 60K or such car to run into the ground on the daily commute grind?
Run the miles on the 2nd rate vehicles, keep the nice ride for the weekend.
-
Everyone is different. My family's always had sick cars, but i know a lot that are in the same league and drive regular cars.
-
I had a friend that drove his old beat-up truck into a dealership and was looking at the BMWs. A saleman asked him "Shouldn't you be in the used car lot?" and laughed at my friend.
My friend got another salesman and bought a BMW and a new truck.
-
Never ceases to amaze me how people 'define' their life and success on the car they drive. As if having a BMW makes your life longer or better than driving a Honda or Toyota. Another sad person hoping to fill the void with consumer goods.

Not really. My sis would go to a thift shop when she was making $60K yrly. This other lady showed up every week to shop in a Range HSE Sport. They were getting designer s##t off of the rack for like $10.

warren buffet drives an old ford truck and he can wipe his ass with bitches like you
-
My mom back in the early 80's had just bought a new Mercedes 450 SLC which at the time was THE car to have for a status symbol (at least in LA). The very first day she took it to work, when she left someone painted on the windshield. 'You Fuckin Bitch" She had to ride home the whole way with that. I remember her crying and my dad going out and cleaning it. I thought it was funny how someone knew just from the car she was a bitch. I thought you had to live with her to know that. But, anyhow she ended up buying another car and driving that to work and the Benz was put in the garage at our cabin. My dad later sold it to help pay for her medical bills. Back then driving a nice car was the thing to do if you were successful. Nowadays it isn't as important but having toys and other nice things is. A successful person might drive a so-so car to work but at home they will have a nice car to go out in.
warren buffet drives an old ford truck and he can wipe his ass with bitches like you
Absolutely.
-
warren buffet drives an old ford truck and he can wipe his ass with bitches like you
im not too clued up on american cars...but im sure buffet drives a lincoln town car.....if the lincoln town car is the limo then it must just be a lincoln ..... a smart 90's car...
he also still lives in the same home he purchased about 30 years ago for about 30k and he is now the richest man on the planet estimated worth is around 56 billion
-
Have you ever thought about the fact that some they just dont care what they drive?
Like sammi the blacksmith he does not care about cars at all.
Just as some people they dont care if they are fat.
Wear a suit and tie to work does not mean you get paid a good salary, they can be
wearing a second hand out of fashion suit with a huge family to feed
Take a closer look at his watch, shoes, the quality of the suit, bodylanguage, calculate if he is a poser/scammer
and then pass judgement about his car.
Personally I feel driving a nice car enhances the quality of life, same as staying in shape.
And I think: wearing a tie and suit= slave
-
warren buffet drives an old ford truck and he can wipe his ass with bitches like you
Exactly, a lot of super rich guys drive old pick up trucks. I think the founder of walmart Sam Wal drove an old beater truck until the day he died.

A good salary perk if your mgr in car buisness is a demo either free,or u pay the tax and or insurance, the dealer i work for gives a good deal at lest tissue cost or below on leases so it saves u about 100 to 200 per month so if u drive a 328 bmw it would cost sat 350 and basically zero down as a customer it would be 500 or so a month with a few g's out of pocket.
-
camel jockey:
even 150k a year does not justify driving a "nice" car.
here's what i think a nice income breakup is:
housing/food/living expenses: 40%
car: 25%
savings/investments/retirement: 20%
vacations, toys, blow off money: 15%
i might even go with vacations, etc at 10 percent with an extra 5 going to savings, etc.

Hahaha, when I went to get my Beemer, I drove into the lot in an 88 Ford pickup that was beat to hell, just to see what they would do.
-

I agree with what you are saying here but it's a matter of perception. Save it for when you can actually enjoy it.
Like Hereford said.
Why would you buy a 60K or such car to run into the ground on the daily commute grind?
Run the miles on the 2nd rate vehicles, keep the nice ride for the weekend.

I bought a new 320i in 1984 and rode into the lot on my strand cruiser bike. Put it in the trunk and drove off. I promise you everyone was looking at me. The thing was I was there to buy a jeep CJ7 and the guy talked me into the BMW. He used to be a quarterback for the Rams Vince Ferragamo.

I purchased my car online. It isnt good for ethnics to visit dealerships. They try to give out BS deals such as $3000 down at 12%-15% vs 2.95% with $2500-$3500 in additional rebates. USA is a wonderful place.

haaa ok..... i understand what ur saying..... i dont know of "20/20" or "dateline" im scottish and i dont watch TV anyway.....
if u get any asian guy that knows enough about business and send him into a car dealers..... yes they might try to start him off with a shit deal.... but its down to the individual to walk away with the right deal....
if an asian guy walks away with a shit deal its not because hes asian he got a shit deal its because he doesnt know business and has'nt done his homework....

not driven with thousands in refurbishing done and in mint condition, i'm talking about the way an average person uses their vehicle.

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. So many times in my life I've met people who earn a shitload and have the same unostentatious car for years. Yet they've nearly always got a fantastic house that, in a good/normal market, will appreciate. Contrast that with the guys who live in a piece of shit but have a year old Merc or top of the range Beamer on the drive.

Yeah.. I bought an Italian croc leather belt at Century 21 for like $15. Of course it's good to shop around.
My point is that if you're a professional in the finance field you should pay attention careful attention to your attire.

a 70 Hemicuda was on auction on tv a few days ago. got up to 380k. the owner didn't take the reserve off, it's being re auctioned.

It's funny to me how some people put so much into materialistic things.......good to see people like that. Fuck what anyone thinks.
I think the same thing sometimes, but then when I go to the BMW dealership that is walking distance from me, and see the brand new M3 in coupe or sedan...I gots too have it...
Luckily I have a car that will last.

Back in the 1980's my grandmother had a 1980's 300 Series. She wrecked into the back of a guy that pulled out in front of her onto the interstate (after hunting) in a big truck. The Mercedes saved my mom, aunt and grandmother, and absolutely smashed the guys Truck from tailgate up to the cab.

Reminds me of the story of Sam Simon the co-creator of The Simpsons walked into the Mercesdes/Rolls Royce dealership to purchase floor mats for his Mercedes ask the sales man assistance and he snapped " I don't work in the parts department " he bought the mats and a $400K Rolls Royce and the salesman lost a healthy commission

I know a real estate broker in town who just sold his office to a bigger company for a few million. He drives a mid 1990's Jeep Cherokee.

When I was a teenager I use to work at a car wash on the weekends and this guy use to come in all the time with his Ford Ranger pick-up very unassuming dressed in jeans & a t-shirt , the guy behind him said " You'd never know huh? " I said " Know what? " he said " He's worth $30 million dollars " and this was back in the late eighties , he own one of the biggest building supply companies in Rhode Island , nicest humble guy you ever meet too.
-
I'm the type of person that will drive a car into the ground and I don't care what people think about it. I drove a Chevy Celebrity until it had 175,000 miles on it. I would have done the same with my last car, an Olds Alero, but that lemon crapped out on me at 119,000. I drive a Scion tc now and will drive it until the repairs become too costly. Once a car is paid off you should drive it for as long as possble. It is such a bargain to do so.

stories like this are great. That's the difference between rich and wealthy. There is no need to call attention to yourself. Only when it's necessary. Not like you are going to take the Chevette to the golf course. :D

Theres this guy who lives right near me who owns this really nice restaurant right near the beach and this kitchen company who were the first people in Australia to bring over ceaserstone, some shit for kitchen bench tops or some shit.
Anyway, i always saw him drive this old Holden Commodore, must have been 15 years old or so. I thought it was kinda cool how he was so rich yet had just a normal, old car.
So one day i walk past his place and his garage was up (id never seen it up before) and inside his garage is a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Aston Martin DB9 and his old piece of shit car. It was werid as id never seen him drive his lambo or Aston before...
Either way, if i had the money, id buy sick cars. But i come from a family who has always had nice rides and just loves cars in general.

It's the Los Angeles way... People in LA are absolutely defined by the vehicle that they drive.
I'm not really sure why that is though.

Being a businessman and not having a nice car isn't that bad. But imagine if you were some 170 lb midget twink like this?
Im barely 5'7, 170 lbs - so i got fucked on aize, (thanks random dna sequencing)but i am capable of getting some decent poon. Pretty good looking, but just turned 21 so this scenario may come out to play one day.
Say your downtown in club/bar and u and ur girl are drinking at bar, and some drunk, 6'+ 230lber tries to mess with u/hit on your girl right in front of you knowing u wont do shit... What the hell am i gonna do? "Hey bud u wanna take this outside"? I mean give me a break i know where i stand i am in no means a fighter or have an aggressive dickhead attitute, but at the same time i dont wanna let some jackass punk me out in front of my girl. Where can I go from here to save my pride?
Pussies like this need a nice car much more than anyone successful.

I also have a 1995 Audi S6 avant, it is pretty much stock, but I did chip it and put a short shifter in it. Another super car from the mid 90's. My wife who makes a ton of money, drives a 1995 honda accord and I am sure she will drive it until it dies.

Go further save more.
If they really want to save money and drive cheap
they should sell their cars and drive a

Especially in this time, you can only laugh at people driving a big SUV because 50% of their salary goes into the car. Stupidity at its finest.

yeah..driving a nice car always means you made it in life...tell my douchebag brother that---drives a brand new SUV but had to file bankruptcy, and live with my parents for two years cause his wife divorced him--hey, but at least he looked successful--

very true...i lease a new car just for a business tax break, but the day i am not a business owner, i will be getting a 15 year old honda

Boonstack seems upset that he dropped $30k+ on a new Evo and is now dirt broke.
-
My criteria for cars:
1) I buy the highest safety rated ones I can
2) I buy the highest reliability cars out there.
Doesn't really matter what they look like or the "status" level. Unless, as others have already noted, you buy a car as a collectors item, they all lose value as soon as you write the check. But what's the point of buying a car that folds like an accordion in an accident?
On a body building note, Steve Michalik, former Mr America, was just about crushed in a car wreck years ago, while still an active competitor. Maybe Pollux or ND has a pic of the car after the accident? It was in all the bodybuilding magazines at the time. I read it pretty much ended his career.

Short: You buy Toyota or Honda.

Just because a guy like Warren buffet doesn't drive a cool car, doesn't mean you're a douche if you do. Some people like nice things. Like a new car with a warranty and the lastest features, safety and otherwise.

it must suck not to be able to have a porsche or beamer, but still have to wear a suit and tie to work in a mid 90's Ford explorer. Geez. Are u kidding me how depressing is ur life

No, but the OP wanted to talk about how he gets his jollies laughing at people who drive anything that has a value less than $30k, and the thread turned into examples of why he's a dumbass for doing so.

Boonstack seems upset that he dropped $30k+ on a new Evo and is now dirt broke.
The fact that he parks it in Caprini Green is what really amazes me. Must not be too much left of it.

Land rover is own by ford, so I drive a American suv.

The typical millionaire next door drives a Ford Taurus.
I've known many folks that earn 2/3 to 3/4 of a million/yr and drive 10-15 yr old vehicles.
It's the assclowns that earn $9/hr and drive expensive automobiles....they typically park them in parking lot of the apartment complex they live at.

The most admirable rich people are those who have common material items. Then they can use the $ in better ways.

He will have to be, especially if he gets divorced.
He was interviewd once. The girl asked, "Why are you driving a 20K Altima?"
He said:
"I was sitting at lite in my Altima. Jay-Z pulled up to me at the lite in his 310K Bently.
"You wanna know the difference btw me and Jay-Z?" he asked the reporter rhetorically.
"290 thousand dollars!"
Exactly.

Buffett isn't all that nice. His grand daughter did an interview in "The One Percent," a documentary created by Jamie Johnson, the heir to Johnson & Johnson about the growing wealth gap in America and how the top one percent controls 40%+ of the nation's wealth.
After Buffett's grand daughter interviewed in it, he disowned her from the family. Wrote her a letter saying she wasn't his grand daughter anymore and that she wasn't part of the family. She even showed the letter on film and there was an article about it in the NY Times.
I don't know why someone that lives so modestly would have a problem with their grand daughter talking about how she believes the ultra-rich have too much money.
