You can't compare MLK to Obama...not even close. But you are right, it the context of accomplishments, community organizer doesn't compare to mayor/govenor
get off of Obama's jock
-
haha MLK, another fantasy lib
Did MLK speak from a teleprompter
-
MLK was a great man, but was he qualified to be president?
-
and I don't know if I would brag on Obama's record as a community organizer. There were more violent deaths in Chicago last year than in Iraq.

I didn't know the role of community organizer was to stop violent deaths.

Obama did it for 3 years after college.
He also served 11 year in state and national senates.

a distiguished period of time in which he voted "present" 130+ times..guess the decisions were above his pay grade...and you really shouldn't count his US senate time...he has done nothing but campaign.
Look I am not a McCain fan...and sure he voted with Bush 90% of the time....but Obama voted (the few times he actually did) the Dem line 100% of the time.
Tell me which one is true change from the usual washington ways?
-
MLK was a great man, but was he qualified to be president?
Would have been the best we've ever had...by far. ;)
As I stated previously, the Civil Rights Movement, as well as the Woman's Suffrage Movement...these are both the result of grassroots community organizers. Those were the people that did the hard work and made sacrifices for little to no pay and virtually no recognition.
-
So foreign policy experience isn't a factor?
-
So foreign policy experience isn't a factor?
For whom?
-
I'm asking if you think it is for anyone. MLK obviously didn't have any and you say he would've been the best pres. ever.
-
I'm asking if you think it is for anyone. MLK obviously didn't have any and you say he would've been the best pres. ever.
Yes, yes I do believe MLK would have been the best president ever. And no, he did not need foreign policy experience. ;)
Is there anyone in today's presidential race with zero foriegn policy experience that you are comparing to MLK? ::)
-
That's been the theme today. Try to keep up. Libs have bashed Plalin (she's just the vp candidate in case you don't know) on her experience. Evidently you don't think this is relevant. I believe it is but have faith she'll get up to speed quickly.
You should step back for a minute and read your posts. Palin has got you liberals spewing venom. She's definitely in y'alls heads.

talk about delusional and misinformed. MLK is a piece of shit.

it disgusts me that this 'man' has a holiday in his name. what a sad country this is.
-
I gotta disagree. MLK=great. But he had no foreign policy experience, and that's my point. If the libs think he would've been a great pres. then what is the problem with Palin. She's running for VP by the way.
-

WAKE UP CALL... OBAMA ISN'T MLK!!!
TO MAKE THIS PARALLEL IS TO CLAIM HE CHEATED ON HIS WIFE LIKE MLK DID. JUST BLAME THE CIA, RIGHT?
-
I think that what not a wise move from the writer. For one, you pissed of anyone who did that job and their moms/family etc.
For two, she neglected to mention his time as a law professor and lawyer etc.
Finally, not like I am some lawyer, but with a career background as a fisherwoman, housewife and local sportsreader I'd lay off talking about others jobs. Someone like Romney or even McCain could have swung that no problem.

I guess he never did anything either. Hi Palin!
There is absolutely NO COMPARISON WHATSOEVER between MLK, Jr. and Obama. MLK, Jr.'s cause was much more impacting that what Obama could ever dream of.
-
For two, she neglected to mention his time as a law professor and lawyer etc.
Sorry what did this do for my country? A professor that was far left, like 82% of the usual college professors, plus a civil rights lawyer that tries to rewrite the Constitution when in court. No thanks. She was right, that is why she is stomping the ground with Obama, and why the GOP is leaping up so high. Her previous jobs as Mayor, and Gov. give her a whole host of more experience than Obama. Obam dealt with daily "things" she dealt with debts, budgets, problems, corruption.
-
Comparing Obama to MLK?? LOL . . .

I am comparing past jobs. Like Obama, she did 'regular' work before going into office. What is being a housewife, fishing and reading some hockey scores on TV doing for the country? Nothing. Neither do many jobs so no diss. Mine doesn't for sure.

I don't need to answer that CQ cause you just did. You named off the things that are American hobbies, and past times, they may not "help" the country but they are as American as apple pie.
What hobbies does Obama have? Windsurfing, and protesting.

IMO, I would say teaching is also pretty "American". With no teachers, there is no decent next generation. Always a profession I admired, I helped at my kids school class a couple of times and could have strangled some kids. My sister-in-law is a college professor, and the stories she tells.
BTW, I like this rational debating youandme 8)

Teaching, I would call that American as well, but it does not send that thrill or connection to others, because unlike you, not many people have the ability or have had the chance to connect with someone and show them new truths or push for ideas. Haha maybe people think of teaching and have flashbacks of that mean math teacher.
Also teaching is so cliche, what did he teach? Law - that does not associate itself with reaching across the isle to the independent voter, who worries about too much law, and too much government.
All I know is when I think Palin, I think of a more down to earth person than any and all of the candidates in office, and runing for office.
Women have a sixth sense,,,,I would not mind at all to have that in the White House when it comes time for hard decisons.
-

All good points, but I still think teaching is a very important job. Basically all jobs should be respected, why is why I felt the diss was rude. Personally, I have snickered at like trash men in my younger days, but honest work is honest work I really shouldn't have done that :P
My thing is, I think more *quality* ppl need to go into teaching, so the education system can pick up. Hence why I think the job deserves respect. I am not dissing fishing or being as housewife, as strangely enough my husband actually fished while I was a housewife lol, but in the end doesn't help ppl per se.
Good and great teachers make a world of difference to many kids lives - hence ours as less chance they will be stealing our cars or soaking welfare tax dollars etc.

What did MLK do for pasty white people like myself?
-
What did MLK do for pasty white people like myself?
He tried to teach White Americans the meaning of behaving in a civilized manner towards those different from yourself and standing up for the rights of those being treated like 2nd class citizens. MLK tried to highlight the importance of supporting the less fortunate, the underprivileged, and those not being paid a livable wage for a hard day's work. If you open your eyes, learning to treat your fellow man like a human being worthy of equal dignity and respect, it makes you a better human being. It is worthwhile whether you are black, brown, yellow, or "pasty white" as you call yourself.
-

get off of Obama's jock
And that was the point. When Palin was announced as the VP pick last week, the Obama camp and many on the left belittled her accomplishments, specifically that of her being the mayor of her small hometown.
Palin simply threw it back in their faces. If a small-town mayor and 2-year governor isn’t qualified, then Obama CERTAINLY is not qualified. And he’s at the top, not the bottom, of his party’s ticket. That's why Obama has been so defensive of his "community organizer" credentials.

hahaha
How is Obama "defensive" of the job he held for three years fresh out of college? ::)
Palin slung a lot of bullshit in her snarky speech...let's see how she handles the next two months. Will she run and hid or begin doing interviews. Obama was on O'Reilly last night and will be on This Week on ABC this Sunday. Will Palin sit down with Wolf Blitzer? Will she sit in the hot seat of Meet The Press? Or will she give stump speeches and run back to Alaska?
-
What did MLK do for pasty white people like myself?
I also assume you are joking. Read up on him.
His ideals of peace, love, forgiveness, nonviolence, family and the way people should live are ones if we all lived by, excuse the cliche, the world would be a better place.
-
hahaha
How is Obama "defensive" of the job he held for three years fresh out of college? ::)
He's defensive, because he took a pot shot at Palin's qualifications. She shot back with the line about "community organizers", and now his feelings are hurt.

As for Obama, O'Reilly has been asking him to come on the show for MONTHS; he finally made his appearance yesterday. Palin's been on the national stage for a whopping SEVEN DAYS. How the heck is that running and hiding? She'll get to the interviewing in due time.

No need to read past this racist bullshit sentence. What planet are you from? I expected this type of stupidity from a Black Panther or KKK member.
Wow Benny you hit the nail on the head.

Are you saying it was civilized at the time? Hanging people from trees strictly due to race? Denying people equal rights? Bombing churches? Adults ganging up on little kids walking into school and shouting obsenities at them?
I guess we all have our definition of civilised, but in my mind things like above don't apply for me.

I am saying that people like you like to lump White People together. This is called STEREOTYPING something you & Benny should have learned from MLK.

This thread makes me miss the days when you were spouting your conspiracy theories about 9/11.
Get off Obama's nuts, Rob. Salvage whatever credibility you have left and show some damn objectivity for once!

Obviously you need to work on your education or your manners - one or the other.
Unlike you, I am not race obsessed, go through all damn 7,000 of my posts and you will see that.

Manners perhaps, but I tend to tell it like I see it. Now if that offends you....tough shit!
Race obsessed? Nah, just race "aware", many Black people helped me be more aware.

What did MLK do for pasty white people like myself?
He freed many 'pasty white people' from the bondage of slavery, ...the disgusting legacy bequeathed by your forefathers. The kind that enslaves minds, more securely than chains do the body.
He freed 'pasty white people' from the kind of slavery that leads to incredibly foolhardy bouts of hubris, injustice
...and the stupidity of following other suicidal white people off a cliff because their legacy won't allow them to follow a Black man to prosperity.
He also freed a lot of 'pasty white people' from dogmas that suppressed their own inclinations & desires.
After all, ...you know what they say... Once you go Black... :P
...and he paved the way for Vanilla Ice and the Beastie boys. ;D

Wow I would have expected to hear this kind of racial profiling from a LAPD officer or Elijah Mohammad, Rev. Wright, Malcolm X, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama or some other race hustler.
Get this straight you sound racist...Many White people and their forefathers had nothing to do with the oppression of Slaves in America and many more were at the forefront of Civil Rights.
Remember this before you open your mouth and stereotype people. You didn't learn a damn thing from MLK.

pssst: Perhaps you might want to re-read what I have actually written.
While doing that, please take care to go over every single word slowly and carely, pondering the meaning of each word, so that you can comprehend what I actually wrote, and not continue to jump to an incorrect assumption.
Thank You

Terminal Power,
I'll even make it easy for you by highlighting specific significant words and phrases within my post.
[1] The word "many" does not mean ALL. There were many who were freed, not ALL
[2] 'pasty white people' was the phrase calfzilla chose to describe himself. Having not met the man myself, I will not call him a liar. I don't know very many people who would refer to themselves as a pasty white person if it were not true. Maybe calfzilla should hit a tanning salon, or get a bottle of spray on tan or something?
[3] My use of the word 'your' was a specific reference to calfzilla, and not a reference to all white people (pasty or not)
[4] Here again, the words 'a lot of' means just that... a lot of, not ALL. Clearly the presence and contributions of certain posters on this board reveals the fact that MLK had little effect on them and as they aptly demonstrate on a daily basis the mental bondage they still endure.
Hope That Clarifies :)

I wouldn't, ...not even with Coach's 10 ft. Bible! ;D

Actually we ignored it because it was irrelevant.

Perhaps it has. I do appreciate you going to that length to explain. While I don't know 1 "pasty white" person who has been freed as you explain I will take your word for it.
Thanks for the effort put forth, I do appreciate it!

Carl Rove stated that The Governor of Virginia wasn't qualified to be VP because he was only a councilman and mayor of the 105th largest city in America and then the Governor of that State.
So how is Palin more qualified than that guy whom Carl Rove said was not qualified?

Take your pick.

Take your pick.
Well if cheney is any example, ...the job of the Vice President (of which Palin admittedly had no clue about as little as 6 weeks ago) involves:
- controversy
- lying to the American public
- starting wars
- war-profiteering
- destroying the careers of those who disagree
- punitive partisanship
- pillaging the US treasury
- shooting people
Hmmmm.... so far, as far as I can tell, ...she needs to shoot someone to complete the list. :D

Energizes base; scares liberals; attracts women voters.....NEXT!!
Again, you miss the point. It's a classic case of pot calling kettle black. The Dems are in NO position to yak about the GOP's #2 not having enough experience, when their #1 has even less than she does.
Why did the Dems leave perhaps the best overall pick (H. Clinton) on the shelf, especially after bragging for MONTHS that a Clinton-Obama/Obama-Clinton ticket would be unstoppable?
Qualified for what? ...to step into the presidency in a moment's notice if need be?
...or to distract press and public attention away from Obama and onto McCain?
BOTH!!! ;D
-
the clip of rove bashing kaine for not having enough experience was hilarious.
Palin has about 1/4 of kain'e's experience. That one did backfire on rove. Not that it matters. if you're laughing at cable news 'gotcha' moments, you're already nota swing voter. you know if you support the repub machine or not.

Exactly!!!
Rove ain't running for office and neither is President Bush. Obama, however, is; and his snide comments about Palin's tenure as a mayor CONTINUE to munch his hind quarters.

I dunno, but I think perhaps Hilary's conduct throughout the primaries may have had a lot to do with that.
-

The only people bragging about that ticket as "unstoppable" were repubes like you and Hillary supporters after it became obvious she would not win the nomination. ;D
Hillary is smart and capable, but comes with TREMENDOUS baggage. The repubes wanted her on the ticket because they know it would galvanize the base better than even Sarah Palin has. There is a visceral dislike of Hillary by many, and Obama didn't need that distraction. He also did not need the potential distraction of BILL Clinton on the campaign trail in the last two months before the election.
