Full C-Span Debate:
-
Palin said she isn't going to answer the questions the way the moderator wants, she'll just speak to the American People.... WOW!!!
she's nutty
I hate how she tries to act cute.
she can F/O
-
LOL i need to go to the gym but i cant stop watching.
-
Palin said she isn't going to answer the questions the way the moderator wants, she'll just speak to the American People.... WOW!!!
yea i almost swalloed my tongue, fucking amazing
-
I missed the first 10 mins... had a business call... what kind of prick calls me right when the fucking debate starts!!!!!!!
-
honestly i thought this about the presidential debate as well but does anybody else find this shit mind numbing?
-
honestly i thought this about the presidential debate as well but does anybody else find this shit mind numbing?
yup
-
Palin said she isn't going to answer the questions the way the moderator wants, she'll just speak to the American People.... WOW!!!
Brilliant, Biden tying McCain/Palin to Exxon Mobil... Huge score imo
-
i'm starting to feel bad for her, u can see her expressions she hates where she is.
-
Palin is just going in circles with no real content.
-
i'm starting to feel bad for her, u can see her expressions she hates where she is.
who cares :D, I want to see a meltdown ;D ;D
-
fuck she is a retard
-
Yes!!!!!! Gotta Score Binden on the Energy part....
-
I didn't like biden's views on Global warming.
-
Gotta love the warning from the moderator to palin "well talk about energy later" after her 3rd response getting energy tied in...
-
funny how she say they support a timetable... are we that dumb, what happened to all the Bush/McCain talk of any timetable being a sit and wait for the enemy.
I see them on so many issues just trying to take the majority opinion which has been Obama's position as their own. LOL...
-
I don't get why mccain and palin under estimate Israels capabilities.
also the pres of iran isn't the leader it's the ayatollah.
-
It is me or is she incoherrently babbling?
-
the theme of the debate will be palin completely flaking off the questions and going on a tangent about what shes done.....the shit was over before it started
-
it looks like palin is reading off a sheet, she keeps looking down. her responses are robotic, it doesnt seem like she knows what shes talking about.
-
she did it again on foreign policy...she doged the response with a cute smile and agreement and yet another tangent
-
Do they both have cue cards? She's shuffling through stuff as the question is being asked and on this last thing, she almost word for word repeated McCain on Obama meeting with our enemies. I don't see Biden doing that ???
-
I cannot see how ANY repub/conservative can stand behind McCain/Palin.
-
it looks like palin is reading off a sheet, she keeps looking down. her responses are robotic, it doesnt seem like she knows what shes talking about.
I just saw that too! wow...
-
she's speaking too fast either wearing a earpiece or memorized everything she is saying.
very odd.
-
I feel like my mom is lecturing me lol
-
I feel like my mom is lecturing me lol
lol
that's an insult to your mom.
-
She's saying we shouldn't point out the errors of the last 8? WHAT, then says we'll learn from them? Right, we'll do that by not pointing them out ::)
-
lol
that's an insult to your mom.
It's the tone and patronization ;D not the content.
Shes coming across like a mom.
-
It's the tone and patronization ;D not the content.
Shes coming across like a mom.
yea, she kills me.
-
I cannot see how ANY repub/conservative can stand behind McCain/Palin.
Basically by swallowing a big load of shit. McCain absolutely sucks as a Republican candidiate. I just feel Obama's an even worse choice for President.
I'm also able to see things clearly - Biden's coming across much more polished, and Palin's in an endless cycle of right wing talking points. At least she hasn't had a major meltdown, which is what a lot of people expected.
-
Oh my god...she said it is apparent she is a Washington outsider...jeez.. :o
-
I just saw that too! wow...
they keep showing an angle where you can see her flipping through a booklet of paper, how is this allowed?
-
Is she getting text messages or something. She looks down to her right seperate from looking down at her cards. She comes up with a response to the General in Afganistan like she knew it well. A comment from the general today... Very odd.
-
"he'll know how to win a war =) "
she got my vote.
-
they keep showing an angle where you can see her flipping through a booklet of paper, how is this allowed?
no kidding, I thought they were to have blank paper and pen to note with.
-
How many times is she going to reference greed and corruption on wall street....Fuck !!!!!
-
Bingo, she got tripped up by Binden pointing out McCain's bad Iraq policy and she stumbles while she's looking down to the right of her podium. She is getting some text messaging or something.
-
The ERECTION over Palin is returning ;D
-
How many times is she going to reference greed and corruption on wall street....Fuck !!!!!
LMFAO ;D ;D
-
would someone cut her mike
world view, hahahaha
-
What the hell is she reading!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
wow, how much of a back stab!!!! "can I call you Joe" Biden: "yes"
Why did she do this?
So she could use the line, "Say it isn't so Joe"
Wow, shoot a guy in the back...
-
What the hell is she reading!!!!!!!!!!!!
there are two things. Questions asked, she looks down. Response, she looks to the right of the podium.
-
How many times is she going to reference greed and corruption on wall street....Fuck !!!!!
yet again...WTF
-
Look at that, go back and look after this is all done. While Biden talks, she looks down to her right reading something!!! Biden looks at her when she's talking, she's reading something!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
nice choke up, joe
-
Look at that, go back and look after this is all done. While Biden talks, she looks down to her right reading something!!! Biden looks at her when she's talking, she's reading something!!!!!!!!!!!!
she has a list of bailout keywords to stimulate more rambling..."maverick" "greed corruption on wall street" are def. two of them.
-
oh my god, someone has to clip all this reading together lol..
-
shit, Biden should have showed up with a jammer.
-
shit, Biden should have showed up with a jammer.
dont you hear that ascending static every 10 minutes?
-
she just gave 15 small stump speeches tonight.
What is your biggest flaw?
"Me and mccain plan to..."
-
economic freedom and national security
heh ??
What about Civil Liberties??
-
it may be just me, but it seems biden is being asked the questions first,at least most of the time, giving palin time to shuffle through/read her sheets/come up with an answer. maybe im wrong since im multi-tasking but thats what ive noticed.
-
Just caught the last 1/2 hour. Looking at that little bit I thought everyone did a good job even the moderator. Tough to call IMO. Biden is a very good speaker. But just to set the record straight, both were looking at notes......alot.
-

Yes - Gwen was VERY VERY fair.
When Palin heard Qs asking for her flaws or to make a judgment on Bush - and she didn't even answer the original question - Gwen never challenged her.
If Rush complains about it, he's a little bitch, joe. Gwen threw softballs. palin recited speeches all night and gwen never stopped her.
-
She had the guts to point the spending finger at Obama/Biden after what Bush just did WITH McCain's support!!!! WOW!!!
-
All Sarah Palin did is dodge questions and over labour her answers.
-
Wow, closing statements by Palin, what a drama.
-
Yes - Gwen was VERY VERY fair.

exactly. When biden ripped her a new one on every other response, the moderator moved to another question.
-
She didn't have any major gaffes, but yes.
The uncommitted voter ratins had Biden beating her handily.
Palin didn't answer many of the questions asked of her. She looked into the camera and gave 15 small stump speeches.
This election is easy. If you like how the economy is, vote Mccain. If you want change, vote Obama.
-
Who are these analysts on MSNBC saying Palin wiped the floor with Biden? Unreal.
-
Gwen was taking heat for her obama book. She kissed ass all night.
It's refreshing for Joe to say it was fair moderation.
-
in quality of answering questions to those with a basic functional understanding of government and politics... yes.
in terms of charisma and appealing to the lowest common denominator... I have to disagree. I was expecting a much better showing on his part, and frankly a bit more of a dumbfounded demeanor on her part. I hate to admit it, but whoever worked on her did a good job.... not a perfect showing, but she did much better when you factor in the general intelligence of the populace watching.
frankly I was a bit pissed with the outcome.
-
Who are these analysts on MSNBC saying Palin wiped the floor with Biden? Unreal.
its like that on every network dude......fuck this mainstream media, fuck em all...i mustve been watching a whole different debate.
-
I thought that she nailed it.
-
There is not a big winner in this debate and I'll tell you why. Because after the terrible interviews with Palin, the bar was set very low for her. So for a lot of people, she's going to look outstanding. On the same hand, Biden didn't have any crazy gaffes which I so worried about. I personally thing Biden won the debate, but with the bar set so low for Palin, it's going to be even at best.
-

The economy problems have to do w/ the over extended credit not the president.
-
Except for the question about what would happen if you became president, that was pretty unbiased I felt.
-
biden really didnt do good job at all.
palin comes off like a little girl who is picked up by a big music corporation and manufactured into a pop star or whatever.
does anyone think that a month ago before she was coached on exactly what answers to give and didnt have cheat sheets to look to for answers that she wouldnt have been destroyed in this debate? what a joke, its all so fake.
-
"I may not answer the questions you (biden) or the moderators want to hear. I"m going to talk right to the american people about what I want to talk about"
-Sarah Palin, who then fulfilled this promise by ignoring most of the questions and giving memorized speeches each time.
-
I was very impressed with Biden, he did exactly what he needed to do just like Obama did in his debate. If anything Palin just rallied her base abit, but i don't think she won over any more votes.
-
Dubai
-
tim russert would have been a much better moderator. this debate was a complete joke in almost all aspects.
-
The economy problems have to do w/ the over extended credit not the president.
6 years of Bush white house and republican Congress didn't stop it.
Also, Mccain will keep hanging $4billion in tax breaks to oil companies. Obama will not.
Mccain will keep bush tax cuts. Obama will not.
If you like how things are, then by all means, mccain is your man.
If you aren't happy with the economy, Obama is your man.
-

I agree with this, it wont change much in terms of current demographics.
-
I thought that she nailed it.
Enlighten us as to what exactly she "nailed". The only thing she impressed me on is that she didn't get destroyed.
-
I dont think she did terrible... She dodged questions which is going to hurt her...
-
I thought that she nailed it.
Ok...she made it through with her cue cards and extensive coaching...so lets vote McCain/Palin. Could see this coming. Papers will have it dead even in the morning because she didnt jackup 1 of 20 times. Excellent odds for a one-heart-beat-away President :-\
-
she agreed with dick cheney that the VP has no supervising body.
Then, she said she wants to "ENLARGE THE CONSTITUTIONAL POWER OF THE VICE PRESIDENT!"
Then she said she won't be doing any more mainstream press interviews.
So, let's review... I'm not going to answer any more questions, and I want a helluva lot more power when I get into office.
-
So this is what a Liberal circle jerk looks like.
-
She didn't have any major gaffes, but yes.

Is that a shocker?

palin's response: 'they want to raise taxes' ::)

Did Palin show her tits?
-
any question:____________________
palin's response: 'they want to raise taxes' ::)
The moderator had not yet brought up taxes.
But...
Palin said "Can we get back to talking about taxes..." and went on to talk about taxes.
She was very vague, all sizzle and no steak.
-
She didn't have any major gaffes, but yes.
This election is easy. If you like how the economy is, vote Mccain. If you want change, vote Obama.

I thought Biden did fine. Palin did very good considering what we've seen her do in interviews. but I think she has some help. I didn't see anything wrong with Biden's performance. I was worried he would launch into a bunch of bogus stories and hero gaffes.

tim would have been very good, but I don't think this was a joke at all. You want joke, it's the Charles Gibson/Stephanopoulos moderated debate. That was a joke.

who was in office before bush? oh ya clinton. these credit problems go back way into his term when the market was going well.
And they go back to Bush1 before that.
The point is, when you have 8 years to fix a problem, you fix it.
You don't spend the 8 years bitching about the last guy.
No, you complain the first month about the mess, then you devote your time to FIXING the problem.
I voted Bush twice. I'm disgusted by the group of whiny, blaming bitches the republicans have become. They act offended 24/7 and blame CLinton for everything.
Man. The. Fvck. Up.
If you don't have the balls to fix a problem you were handed 8 years ago, you're not going to do much in 4 more. Give the job to someone else to try to fix it.

Palin shows obvious talent for understanding rhetoric; as you say, whoever is working on her is doing a fucking great job. She is like a rough diamond being cut.
Hey Matt - you thick fuck - Palin DIDNT get demolished, she DIDNT look dumb, she came across with 100% MORE charisma than Biden. Where are your explixit predictions now? wanker!
Oh and yeah, Biden was obviously giving much more than stock answers too? :o
You are certainly quite the deluded gollywog.
-
and did anyone count how many times the term "maverick" was thrown around? fuck that was annoying.
Biden destoryed mccian in the final 10 minutes for calling himself a maverick.
Didn't matter. The CNN audience rating had a significant DROP every time she used the word maverick.

Here's one just in case u didn't see it ;)
-
Biden answered the Qs tonight and was solid.
Palin dodged questions but saved face and didn't make any major gaffes, and looked spunky and good.
The moderator delivered predictable Qs and didn't stop Palin when she refused to answer the Q.
Momentum unchanged.

Are you dense? I'm not defending her. I'm a white supremacist you thick fuck.
My point is that your observations are flawed, they are the product of Obama mastubatorial fantasies rather than objective critique.
ergo and as implied: your opinion on this matter is worth fuck all because you are a biased coon.
Understand?

Republicans always whine about Dems wanting to raise taxes or as they put it they are a "tax and spend party" but they never like to admit that they are the "spend and spend" party. They want just as much government but don't like to raise taxes to cover for it so the spend the country into financial disaster and debt.
Palin is a puppet and anyone who can't see that she has less intelligence than a roving band of bricks should indeed vote for her.

This is absolutley true. Biden answered the questions. Palin said she would say what she wants despite the questions. ::)

They're not the "spend & spend" party - they're the "borrow & spend" party. Like an 18 year old kid with their first credit card.
-
6 years of Bush white house and republican Congress didn't stop it.
Also, Mccain will keep hanging $4billion in tax breaks to oil companies. Obama will not. And the cost will be transferred onto the consumer if tax breaks are gone.
Mccain will keep bush tax cuts. Obama will not. Yeah, when you need to spend another trillion, they have to tax people.
If you like how things are, then by all means, mccain is your man. Or give it to Obama who wants to socialize the gov't with money we don't have.
If you aren't happy with the economy, Obama is your man. Dems didn't want to regulate back in 01 when Bush wanted to.
-

She didnt suck but she did that same damn thing McCain did. JUST ANSWER THE FUKKN QUESTION! Respond to the healthcare issues. Talk about your taxing. IF your opponent brings up your shit RESPOND... kills me man.
-
Dems didn't want to regulate back in 01 when Bush wanted to.
Dems had no say in this.
Republicans owned the congress and the white house - majority.
They could vote in anything they wanted, and didnt'. They could have fixed anything Clinton broke. They didnt'. It's 8 years later, and all we've gotten was a pile of complaints.

See I am not sure if its avoiding or just getting caught up in your repetative talking points. I fundementially disagree with Obama on every issue and think he is snowballing the american people and they will find out too late once they get him in office.
I actually trust biden more than I do obama. With Biden what you see is what you get.
-
Gwen Ifill did a SUPERB job as moderator tonight. Hats off to her for how she handled the debate.
Thought Sen. Biden did well (he bloodied up McCain real bad). Gaffe-master he may be, but the guy's got a H U G E heart. I love when politicians show that side of themselves.
And Gov. Palin probably pissed alot of Obama fans off tonight. And, whether you like her or not (240/Hugo, but I'm not going to mention any names ;)), her performance tonight in the debate will re-energize the Republican party at a very crucial moment in the campaign.
The lead that Obama has over McCain just went "bye-bye" tonight.
-
this would be better if there was a 3rd party in the debates.
I don't believe we have seen a real debate yet and we won't see one.
-
Palin easily won! Biden was all "facts & figures". Too bad most of them were untrue. Palin talked about the future and her record. Biden lived in the past.
and her personality shined through. She was clearly more likeable and NON-WASHINGTON DC.

this would be better if there was a 3rd party in the debates.
I don't believe we have seen a real debate yet and we won't see one.
I think a third party guy should be a serious contender to be in the debates. If they're at 3% fuck that. Have a serious campaign. These thrid party guys show up in the last month as a spoiler and want in the debate? If guys like Nader wanted to be serious, they should be serious and have a real campaign and demonstrate the support.
-
swing voters vote on wittiness and likability, not the person they want owning the nuclear launch codes.
I dunno,
I think that strategy would be ok minus the economic problem, but with the economic problem people want answers since it directly effects thier bank account.

I think a third party guy should be a serious contender to be in the debates. If they're at 3% fuck that. Have a serious campaign. These thrid party guys show up in the last month as a spoiler and want in the debate? If guys like Nader wanted to be serious, they should be serious and have a real campaign and demonstrate the support.
yes you have a point to.
-
Biden was all "facts & figures". Too bad most of them were untrue.
Which ones were untrue? Please list them.
-
The debate was ridiculous. My worry is that people will think Palin improved considerably from her poor interviews and will in turn get the impression that she somehow did well. Truth is, Biden annihilated Palin to the point of absurdity. Palin can't even pronounce "nuclear" correctly, I keep thinking we as American voters are on an old episode of Punk'd that we are dumb enough to even consider this woman as a potential candidate for higher office.
Biden seemed almost amused that he was expected to debate against such an ill-qualified person. And oh yeah, is anyone getting really sick of hearing the word "maverick" at this point?
-
FOX text poll with over 100,000,000 votes in so far;
Biden 12%
Palin 86%
Dick Morris said she hit a homerun.
Guliani said "She gave the best debate he's ever seen" (paraphrasing)
Most importantly, Karl Rove said there were at least 10 FACTUAL inaccuracies that Biden said and at least 6 that were arguable.
-
Palin easily won! Biden was all "facts & figures". Too bad most of them were untrue. Palin talked about the future and her record. Biden lived in the past.
and her personality shined through. She was clearly more likeable and NON-WASHINGTON DC.
I want you to post all of his UNTRUE's... Man up with your facts, or STFU.
Palin talked about her Record of what?
Cutting Taxes in Wasilla? (wich factcheck.org disproved)
ABout John McCains record that she has only been following for 5 weeks?
WHAT ABOUT
The 27 million she got from Hiring Jack Abramovs lobby company? (isnt Jack on a Long steel bar vacation?)
What about abuse of power where she is about to get impeached for breaking the law while Gov?
Even on CNN.com RIGHT NOW they are showing her "barack voted 94 times to raise taxes" as a TOTAL DISTORTION
She completely dodged id say 25% of the questons and any time she didnt know she tied in talking about Energy and she is a GOV not a OIL EXEC, does that mean Jeb Bush is a guru on Fishing since he is was the Gov of FLA?
She talked about that pipeline she is building rember that? FACTS ARE, she passed 500million of Alaska tax payers dollars and it HASNT started yet and the contract doesnt have a Date it needs to start by!!!
Her entire babbling tonight was memorized, she got corrected several times by Biden. How the hell is she going to argue McCains record with a Man who has WORKED WITH HIM THE PAST 26 years!!!
Sarah is a douche and anyone who supports her to be VICE PRESIDENT needs to smack their mom for not swallowing them...

If anything, history teaches us that we must look back and see where we went wrong before we can move forward. Palin seems to want to ignore the travesties of the past 8 years and blindly move forward like everything is okay. You approve of this?
Biden was all facts and figures, you say. Is that a bad thing? I don't know about you, but I prefer a VP who knows their economic figures as opposed to somebody who starts every sentence with "gosh darn"

The fact that people can even think that Palin won or fared well highlights what's wrong with this country.
She won absolutely nothing. She could not directly answer the moderator's questions and had to resort to other changing the issues to taxes, change with McCain and other nonsense.
We're talking about an administrative position here, not whom you'd like your neighbor to be.
-
More importantly coach she looked like a MILF again! ;D
I didn't notice :P

She was winning a bake sale at a race car track.
She didn't asnwer Qs, and admitted she was just there to give a speech.

I also loved the part when she (in her own way) told the mainstream media to f**k off. Like it or not, she may come off all cute but deep down I think she f**k you up if you cross her.

You'd be shitting a brick, joe.

she pissed on the MSM the last 4 weeks, and mccain lost 5+ points nationwide as a result of their constant exposing of her.
Piss on the for 4 more weeks. See mccain drop another 5 points. She'll make FOX viewers happy, but the rest of the country will only know what the TV tells them.

What if brokaw asked Obammers about Iran and he said "Tom, I'm here for the USA, not you or Mccain, so I'm giong to take the next 90 seconds and talk about the economy"?
You'd be (rightfully) calling him a coward.

Love her? Love to hate her? She smoked him and she has Americas attention! I was at a debate party. Even Obama/Biden backers agreed she made him look silly.
Did you watch the debate or are you really that fucking dumb?
lol smoked him ::) She catered to the dumbasses and pleased certain repugs by not fucking it up. But she by no means won a single issue.

Her 'candid & approachable' routine not only destroyed Biden on the homo issue, it also carried her with ease through the rest.
You just cannot concede you were ABSOLUTELY wrong in your prior assertions that Palin was going to get raped by Biden; you have been shown up for the clueless fuckwit you always have been.
That is the funny thing here, your fucking hubris, my silly dune coon friend.

All Sarah Palin did is dodge questions and over labour her answers.

The homo issue is immaterial. In the matters of foreign policy, Afghanistan, the economy and even demonstration of understanding constitutional law Biden smoked Palin.
Spin dune coon jokes as you might, you're still British and cannot vote in an US election. ;)
Someone should inform Yaroni.

How did Palin win at all on the homo issue. She stated she was "tolerant" of alternative lifestyles (ie. gays), but then went on to state immediately that she did not approve gay marriage. So how exactly is she tolerant? Because she doesn't gay-bash? That's like me saying I don't like black people, but I tolerate them, so I should get a pat on the back for being tolerant and restraining myself from committing hate crimes.

Guliani should be ashamed for lying to the American people like that.
Karl Rove also said that Palin had a few incorrect statements as well.
However, Rove is the same guy who said that Tim Kaine (The governor of Virginia) would be a bad pick for Democratic VP due to his political background, when on every level he is more qualified than Sarah Palin.

What do you mean exactly Joe?
How many times do I have to explain to people that if McCain was the same McCain from 2000 I'd vote for that guy in a heartbeat... Unfortunately, he sold his soul to get his neo-conservative base to back him.
It's disgusting.
I'm a real independent.

Times have changed bro, and dont compare Kerry or Gore to Obama. Obama has taken the Dem party to a whole other level. Kerry & Gore didnt have an economic crisis on their side like Obama does, and a failing war like Obama does. Once again times have changed..
-
I'm chill about what you said... I'm not chill about how I think John McCain has changed over 8 years.
I am dumbfounded why he voted for that bill....
-
Heres a view from outside the USA, but i frequent there on work, this election has nothing to do with anything except race if Obama was white he would be winning easily, the economy is in tatters, your losing the war on terror and still half the population think they dont need change, bullshit, you rednecks just wont vote for a Negro the world is sitting back dumbfounded that someone as stupid as Palin could even be considered as vice president. Your judgment is blinded by racism. The economic downturn has hurt the world economy as your foreign policy of interferring everywhere means everyone suffers. Thank god that in the next 20 years that the Chinese and Russian economy's will come on to a point that the US will only slightly influence world markets next time this USA merry go round gets played out.
I for one don't believe its a recession in whole but more a correction in the market, and now your going to bail out the speculators who got you to this point by buying out the bad debts and leaving the same guys in administration, unbelievable.

WHAT?
McCain. Tu talked about how mccain has changed.
I am commenting that I cannot believe that a guy who wants reform could have voted for that shitty bill.
I know he is all about non partisian cooperation, but im sorry. a turd is a turd. If you say you are against earmarks how can you vote for that?
-
She didn't have any major gaffes, but yes.
The uncommitted voter ratins had Biden beating her handily.
Palin didn't answer many of the questions asked of her. She looked into the camera and gave 15 small stump speeches.
This election is easy. If you like how the economy is, vote Mccain. If you want change, vote Obama.
stop the bullshit you are not voting for either one.
-
in quality of answering questions to those with a basic functional understanding of government and politics... yes.
in terms of charisma and appealing to the lowest common denominator...
So you'd rather have someone who will lie to your face, dodge the truth and avoid tough questions but does so with personality?
-
they should throw palin without protection in the hell thats iraq and see if she has still such a big mouth.
all that wartalk in their comfortable chairs. it would be nice to see them be given the taste of definite death.

So you'd rather have someone who will lie to your face, dodge the truth and avoid tough questions but does so with personality?
I don't think I insinuated that in the least... as I said before, I was disappointed cause despite her ignorance, she struck a chord with the ignorant masses with her overwhelming charisma and her fluff retorts to the serious questions she was asked. personally I can't stand her and her smug smirk while biden answered his challenges with very coherent responses... I could tell the soccer moms with little to no understanding of politics where creaming their wal mart underwear with great enthusiasm by the performance of the so called underdog.... all she had to do was appear to hold her own against biden and while I think her fluff answers were bullshit, you have to think how it was perceived by many who watched the debate. just stating the obvious, I wasn't fooled and admitted straight up my aggravation over how things went but the sad fact is you got millions of soccer moms out there who thought she handled things great... just by not completely embarrassing her ticket due to some extreme coaching and ass kissing.
dont take for granted that everyone like a lot of us here who follow politics closely were not convinced in the least by her lazy and nervous showing... but you have to admit she played right in the hands of a good percentage of the masses. biden needed a superior win and his dry demeanor and in depth responses just were no match for her ignorant charisma.... all she had to do was hold her own to a certain degree and I think she achieved that... while biden could be considered a failure due to his experience and failure to eviscerate her which I was expecting/hoping to be the case.
-
Her kid as well as Bidens are in Iraq. Thats probably close enough.
The Saddam Fedayeen will trace them and chop of their rotten heads.

interesting, this was written on october 1st
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/6034733.html
Thursday's vice-presidential debate has the potential to be a smack-down or a train wreck.
Either way, it could be great TV.
Across Houston, Republicans and Democrats will gather as they usually do for important showdowns: They'll be mingling at cocktail parties in River Oaks and at such hipster hangouts as the communal art and work space Caroline Collective. They'll be huddled in front of televisions at the homes and offices of fellow political junkies or watching while munching on sliders inside the bar at Reef restaurant in Midtown.
"It used to be you'd ask your buddy, 'Where are you watching the game?' " said Armando Walle, Democratic state representative candidate in District 140. "Now it's, 'Where are you going to watch the debate?' "
The reason for all the excitement, of course, is Sarah Palin. When Republican presidential nominee John McCain picked the Alaska governor to be his running mate, she became an overnight star. The pro-gun, anti-abortion mother of five ignited the conservative base. She thrilled Republican women. And during her speech at the Republican National Convention, she dissed Barack Obama, the Democrats' presidential nominee, as if he were her most junior staff member.
But a lot has changed in the past month. Palin has blown some important TV interviews. On Saturday Night Live she's been satirized by Tina Fey, one of America's funniest women. Some Americans now can't tell the politician and the comedienne apart.
All of which sets the stage for Thursday night.
On Friday, an estimated 52.4 million Americans tuned in to watch the McCain-Obama debate — and Thursday night's crowd could be larger.
Traditionally, Thursday is a good night to watch TV; Friday is not. Besides, last week, nobody but McCain knew if he was even going to show up. Also, there's the allure of seeing a potential train wreck.
Both VP candidates, Palin and Joe Biden, the longtime Democratic senator from Delaware, have had their problems. Palin's inexperience has come out in recent interviews, and Biden is known for gaffes and verbosity. Factor in the high stakes, and who wouldn't trip up?
It may be the ugly side of human nature, but regular Americans, political pundits and academics who make their living dissecting just such media events can hardly wait.
"There was some underestimation of how much this election will become the mini-series of the season," said Robert Thompson, professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University. "It's been the most exciting TV on, from the beginning of year till now."
He figures Palin will try to get through the debate by memorizing eight or nine mini-speeches. If she can do that successfully, he said, the 90 minutes will be as boring as some people deemed last Friday's debate. "The only chance for anything interesting is if the moderator, Gwen Ifill, can ask her questions that can't be answered with a push of the button and recitation," Thompson said.
Cal Jillson, a political science professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, said he's heard Palin's debate preparations haven't gone so well.
"It's asking a tremendous amount from a former mayor of Wasilla and a governor of less than two years to get up to speed on foreign and domestic policies," Jillson said. "Even if she is really talented."
Thompson will be glued to his TV set, but with low expectations.
"Is Palin even competent to run for this office?" he asked. "She is making (former vice president) Dan Quayle sound like a Rhodes scholar."
If that assessment seems harsh, more than a few pundits say that despite his extensive and widely acknowledged foreign policy expertise, Biden will bring his own baggage to the podium.
"Biden has 36 years worth of Senate knowledge — that's his plus," said Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist. "His minuses are that he's verbose, gaffe-prone and he can be somewhat presumptuous."
And, Sabato added, arrogant.
Here, political junkies will probably cocoon with like-minded partisans and have a big time yelling at the TV.
City Councilwoman Anne Clutterbuck will be rooting for Palin.
"I think she's terrific, and I'm real excited about her," Clutterbuck said. "She's been involved and successful in local government, and I recognize the dedication and hard work that goes into that. ... You don't have to be in Washington all your career to be a competent leader."
Peggy Hamric, a former GOP state representative, will be rooting for Palin, too.
"She's just a breath of fresh air," Hamric said. "Palin's a typical American woman. She's Main Street."
Political scientists doubt Democratic women, even disappointed Hillary Clinton supporters, will cross party lines to vote for Palin.
While Clutterbuck and Hamric hope they're wrong, Sissy Farenthold, a lifelong feminist, says she won't be voting her gender. She thinks not only that Palin has poor judgment, but that McCain exhibited poor judgment in selecting her as his VP. "He wanted to invigorate the conservative base, and he thought he might appeal to women," Farenthold said. "All I can believe is that he's not thinking about governance, he's not thinking about the issues. The whole thing is just amazing to me."
Thursday is her birthday, but she is so intent on watching the debate she may simply stay home. "We'll see how the day unfolds," she said.
Jillson, the SMU prof, will be watching the debate to see if it's a game-changer.
If Palin collapses to the point that Americans lose confidence in McCain for picking her in the first place, Jillson said, the campaign is toast. Otherwise, the vice-presidential debate probably won't matter come Election Day.
"Normally people don't vote based on the candidates for vice president," Jillson said. "Probably our focus will shift to the next two presidential debates."
Thompson also says he doesn't expect much comic relief, and says Palin probably has "15 mini speeches memorizes so she can avoid any mishaps."
-
swing voters vote on wittiness and likability, not the person they want owning the nuclear launch codes.
It's Nuculear Rob....Nuculear.
Can there be a ruling that only allows you to have control over our nuclear launch codes if you can actually pronounce the word "nuclear?" I don't think Palin stopped saying "nuculear" until around the 5th time enunciating the word.
I don't know that I could pick a winner for the debate.
I know I can certainly pick a loser......the moderator. Palin stated from the start that she's not going to answer the questions as Gwen wants her too, but is going to speak to the American people. Gwen let her walk all over her.
Biden clearly showed he has a better comprehension of "politics." Palin played her role perfectly.....repeat what she has memorized.
I'm pretty sure Palin could have started talking about her family pet or what movies she's seen recently and Gwen wouldn't push her to stay on topic for one moment.
The people that trained Palin won the debate. They pushed the "Obama book issue" just enough to make Gwen pussy foot through the debate, fearful that any mention of "answering the questions" could bring negative publicity to her.....
Most boring debate I've seen.
-

-
Biden's biggest mistake: saying it was ok for Palin to call him Joe... she then went on to only use his first name for cheap shots... How fucking Robert Ford of her... ::)
-
One, I watched first 5 minutes, and then went to go listen in another room. She sounded like she had a ear piece. She kept saying runon sentences too fast, no pause in between. In sort, she never really answered a question
On the Early Show, they asked some Washington U student memorable moments during the debate. One girl said, "When Palin did her closing remarks and said 'Ronald Regan, a American Hero'.
Another girl said, "I think Biden was unprofessional when he smiled at Palin..." then they cut to commericial
Seriously i was was waaaayyy more analytical than that in College
My mother said to leave Palin alone, and I believe women support Palin because she is a woman. Period. No matter the fact that she is way over her head. They fear that she represents a notion that women can't compare to men. but, Gwenn, Hillary are all proof that women are just as smart, if not more qualified than a man. It's just that Palin was a bad pick, and she just a worse, female version of GW.
-
Here's what I think about Palin's performance:
1. substantively she relied on rhetorical tricks like the # of times Obama voted for tax increases, she should have applied that standard to Big Mac as well.
2. She thoroughly overstated the importance of taxes and tax cuts to the economy. Reminder: taxes aren't that important to our economic situation. They just aren't.
3. Style-wise, she spoke as if she was wearing a wire. There was no natural tempo to her speaking style.
4. It was rather difficult to take many of her unresponsive answers seriously.
5. ...especially when I kept picturing her with a cock in her mouth.
I told my wife that last one and I ended up sleeping on the couch.

Whaaaaaat... next time bring her a Palin wig and plastic M16 :D

Times have changed bro, and dont compare Kerry or Gore to Obama. Obama has taken the Dem party to a whole other level. Kerry & Gore didnt have an economic crisis on their side like Obama does, and a failing war like Obama does. Once again times have changed..
We were addressing the relevance of polls.

Well, if she's going to act like a dumbfuck hick soccer mom, then I have no problem seeing her in a spreadshot or working over my shlong.
She used to get paid for speaking on television as a broadcaster. She knows what she's doing behind the mic.
So what do we get? She purposely mangles nuclear as nucular...isn't that quaint? She's as fucking stupid in her elocution as The Uniter.
She repeats BS about tax cuts even if she's asked about...well, not tax cuts.
'Say it ain't so Joe'...with that moronic twang in her voice she cultivates an image of an actress in a dinner theater playing the part...
Take this woman seriously as a political world leader?....that's rich. I haven't laughed like that in some time.
Imagine this woman VP candidate lapping at my nether regions like a starving dog on an ice cream cone? That I can do.
-
Here's what I think about Palin's performance:
1. substantively she relied on rhetorical tricks like the # of times Obama voted for tax increases, she should have applied that standard to Big Mac as well.
Exactly, I think she was wearing a wire...no pause, no period, and a herky-jerky speaking style. She didn't have a natural flow, and of course she choose not to answer the questions the way they were formatted. Her handlers worked with her, and found the best way for to deal with her significant lack of knowledge.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... RIGHT ON...

Maybe 240 and the Bigfoot guy should investigate.

ding ding, we have a winner.
You are certainly quite the deluded gollywog.
u didnt watch the same debate...biden had figures and actual facts...palin = energy producing state...blah blah..

translation: "I make 20K/yr designing $300 websites and playing Mr Mom, despite having an MBA from a third-rate school, therefore I am willing to vote a black guy with zero experience into office as president".
we know why you arent voting obama...
-
She is so far in your head it's disgusting.
She doesn't follow your "rules" because she is a Maverick!
you= mentally illequiped to participate in a political discussion of any sort
-
I also loved the part when she (in her own way) told the mainstream media to f**k off. Like it or not, she may come off all cute but deep down I think she f**k you up if you cross her.
amazing
I really think that people should take an I.Q test before voting...
You really get sucked in by that kind of stuff...
i think you are dumb

illequiped = ill-equipped = irony

McCain. Tu talked about how mccain has changed.
I am commenting that I cannot believe that a guy who wants reform could have voted for that shitty bill.
I know he is all about non partisian cooperation, but im sorry. a turd is a turd. If you say you are against earmarks how can you vote for that?
Agreed... Earmarks that wouldn't have been put in if McCain had stayed out of Washington.
That 700 Billion dollar bill would have passed as originally wanted... 700 billion and fix the problem... free up the credit markets.
McCain goes to washington and all of a sudden the Republicans are swayed to start asking for more... Which gets the liberal democrats to start say, why can't WE ask for more... so they do... it goes from 700billion to 850 Billion... and McCain was the catalyst.
-
I think Palin won this one. She did a great job. She is "Main Street" America and really brought that home yesterday. That's part of the reason I like her. We need someone from outside the beltway who doesn't bring the business as usual approach to D.C. I loved how she attacked the "paying taxes is patriotic" nonsense.
Biden did a good job too.

beach...you know i respect you and your opinion a whole lot...you are the only con that i actually take serious here...
But this is some bullshit...you watched the debate just like i did...she talked crazy talk yesterday..she had very little facts...that patriotic rhetoric is easy to spot now...come one man..im dissapointed
-
your picking the vice president of your country not nominating actors for academy awards, your all losing money on your assets and retirement funds and were here debating whether a soccer mum can run a country in its biggest crisis ever, what hope have you guys got.
The 700 billion bailout wont help do nothing but stem the market for a little while, before it goes again, The bailout would have to be 3 to 5 times larger to correct the market place and neutralise.

Thanks mang. :) I respect your point of view too. I agree in part and disagree in part. I agree that she didn't always answer the question being asked. She actually admitted she wouldn't answer every question. I agree that at times she wasn't specific enough. There were also times when she seemed to be reading too much. She also stared at the camera too much. Made her look robotic at times.
That said, overall, she was engaging, smart, funny, had a good grasp of issues, and had great poise. As she said during the debate, she's only been at this for five weeks. She went toe to toe with a man who was been in D.C. for thirty years. I thought that was pretty impressive.
After watching it I also listened to part of it on the radio and had the same opinion. She was just better than Biden overall.
Biden did better than I expected. He didn't put his foot in his mouth. He was confident, even when wrong. :) I think part of the reason I don't like him is I don't like his policies. That did admittedly color my opinion a bit.

I'm sorry Beach... I disagree in a lot of ways.
Is she likable, certainly... She's definitely "down home", but to not answer those questions because she didn't feel like it, wasn't about her answering what she "wanted" to, it was about her answering what she knew... the questions she didn't answer and I'd say it was easily half of them, were simply questions she didn't answer because she didn't have a clue about them.
She was given the format of the debate ahead of time and could only muster out prepared statements.
Those questions were questions being asked by the American people... You think it's ok for a VP candidate to decide to not answer questions which are important to the American people?
He answered with factual statements, even if sometimes incorrect. She certainly didn't debate his correctness on many of his points, which is what she SHOULD have done had she had any idea what the heck she was talking about.
Myself and my buddy waited for a good 30 minutes for her to actually answer a question, and the question she answered was the one about climate change... Aside from that it was the same rhetoric as I've always heard.
I didn't find her impressive at all, and the fact that the hard line conservatives are applauding her mediocrity is astounding.

You are making a pretty big leap here. First McCain was initially asked to come back to help get this turd passed. McCain never even challenged the bill. He continually nut hugged Bush and the Democratic leadership to show his unwavering and misguided (in this case) bipartisianship.
Wasnt it the Blue Dog democrats that didnt back Pelosi on this bill as well as Republicans becasuse its just fundementialy bad in the long run for our economy?
Also did you forget Pelosi's BS speech? Im sure that didtn have anything to do with the rejection of the bill either.
How that bailout working so far btw? We will have to re-open this thread in 6 months that is if we can all still afford internet access :)

That's not a leap at all... It's well known that the bill would have passed last week with no changes in money and simply adding in some oversight.
It wasn't until McCain said he was coming back to Washington that the far right started talking about adding provisions which then made the far left want more money.

So what you are saying is Pelosi's joke of a speech and the Overwhelming opposion by the people had nothing to do with the failure of this vote? It was Squarely on McCain??

No... They were at fault all to their own.
However, as I said, he was the catalyst for all of that crap in the first place... had he continued on his merry way the Right wing would not have had any balls to go after what they wanted, and in turn, the left wing wouldn't have felt they should "intercede" and do their stupid shit as well.
He was the catalyst for it's first failure... That's all.

We are going to have to agree to disagree. He was originally called in to bring the repubs for a massively unpopular bill. Harry Reid sensing a potential boonf or MCCAin backtracked and made a big deal out of it,but Bush but wanted it so bad he called them all in. Bush called both canidates to the table. Pelosi pissed off a lot people in that speech which made an unpopular bill even less appeasing.

That's fine, I'm simply relaying things the way I saw it.
