Freedom of speech? He needs to sue the school and get rich.

I don't agree with what the dude said, but it's bullshit IMO. There's too much pc crap today. THe school was probably worried about it's own image.
-
THe school was probably worried about it's own image.
Or run by the same sorts he's talking about.
-
Fuck that, whats said on the field stays on the field.
Whats said in the heat of battle isn't necessarily going to be pretty. Its football, not foosball.
-
are black guys really that upset if someone calls them negro in the heat of the moment?
i bet 95% of the time its said just to hurt the black guys feelings and not because the person is racist.
its like calling someone fat, ugly or smelly.
p.s. honky has never and will never be an insult to me - i find it quite amusing.
-
They all call each other that. Why can't a white man call them that.
Its true isn't it? Are they a "Gringo"? Are they a "chink"? A "kike"?
I'd be more offended if someone called me something I wasn't.
Never understood it either. It's like they are ashamed to be black.
LOL
-
exactly - its only an insult if they let it be.
honkey is used in the same way - yet has never had the same effect, as whites do not find it offensive.
if blacks started seeing 'negro' the same way they would feel a lot beter about themselves.
they should be happy - they have 9" cocks, have great muscle genetics and never get a sunburn :D
-
I'm guessing who's black and who's not with this topic.
LOL!!

ohk, I just assumed it was football related
"It was revealed Thursday that the reasons for Burnette's dismissal stemmed from an inflammatory comment he wrote about Barack Obama on a public website."
Thats a very silly career move.

yea here was his apology
Clearly I have made a mistake and apologized for it and will pay for it. I received it as a text message from an acquaintance and immaturely put it up on facebook in the light of the election. Im not racist and apologize for offending you. I grew up on a ranch in a small town where that was a real thing and I need to grow up. I sincerely am sorry for being ignorant in thinking that it would be ok to write that publicly and apologize to you in particular. I have to be more mature than to put the reputation of my team at stake and to spread that kind of hate which I dont even believe in. Once again, I sincerely apologize.
-
Why should his personal opinion matter to his football career?
Lame.
-
Freedom of speech? He needs to sue the school and get rich.
you have freedom of speech, not lack of responsibility for following school rules. If it is a rule in your team not to said N*****, don't post dumb shit on your facebook account.
-
FYI i voted form obama 8). But, that is the lames obama joke i have ever heard. is it even a joke?
-
they should remain White House into Black House now....;)
hey, no blaming me for racism, ok....i just couldn't resist the joke in the context of this thread:)

no, they openly say it like its acceptable where im from and from what i hear everywhere. where to me its a racist statement, but black people arent racist..... its as obama says "black anger" which makes its acceptable
-

any proof they said it openly? no, i thought not, word against word. Now writing it down can be proven. ;)
-
Dear world: "Obama is a ni##er". (only censored out of respect for Ron's board).
Gee.... if I were a college football player, I'd be fucked. ::)
Truthfully, I don't care what color his skin is, he is a socialist who will fuck over this country.
honeslty... obama knows very little(i wanted a dem. to win over rep.), but the dem. are a change and i agree with putting obama in office. the rep. have had too much power. 8 years is long enough, you have to mix it up. "absolute power equals corruption" proven through history... that being said. even though obama knows very little its usually the pres. administration that calls the shots. the pres is only the speaker for them
-
So every TV station questioning if he's a Muslim and thus assuming he's a terrorist is ok but some dude expressing what he thinks get him kicked out?
Now THAT'S racism vs white people freedom of speech!
-
Never understood it either. It's like they are ashamed to be black.
No it's not, I personally am not ashamed to be black, and futhermore wouldn't want to be white in any way shape or form, and also don't know any black person that feels differently.
-

of course everyone takes pride of what color they are... more power to you, but there is differently a double standard here in the usa towards whites and i hope that changes, but it wont with the liberal media. honestly its ok to make fun of whitey, but if whitey makes any kind of remark towards other races its racist???? so funny.. i hate the band creed but they wrote a song about this called "one"....... .
-
As a white person you just insulted me! >:( Who can I complain to/ sue/ get fired?? >:(
Hey I don't, and for some reason some whites pin it all down to us "wanting to be white" and being "ashamed" of being black something I must always counter as that is not true. I love being me 8)

have pride in who you are and what you are...... not taking that away from you. you seem to be educated... im sure u get more blacks that rag on you then anyone for trying to being "uncle tom"... seen it several times with friends of color that have education

No offense and thanks for the compliment but totally wrong. Never had that happen in my life ???
Grief I get, racial slurs etc are from a tiny tiny segment of whites normally online or when traveling. Uncle Tom, which I will call someone if I think is needed, is a whole different ballgame then being educated or successful. Never been called it in my life, as I have never been tomming. Also, in my experience all that is really more an American type thing, doesn't happen so much other places...could be wrong, but that is what my experience shows me.
-
definately not just an American thing...there are countries where American racism would be considered kindergarten talk
-

isn't uncle tom a racist insult cq?
Depends who from, would need to live it to explain it.
definately not just an American thing...there are countries where American racism would be considered kindergarten talk
Not just, but pretty prevalent there in my experience. I've lived in 8 countries and traveled to dozens and bar none USA was the most I experienced racial issues, like tenfold. Never actually even felt vibes anywhere else personally.
My father says the same and due to his work he's been literally all over the world and would get it more anyway as he is darkskinned + male. The only other place he said he felt some vibes was France, and he got [non threatening just curious] stares in rural arears of Iceland, Norway etc where black folks aren't exactly the norm.
The term Uncle Tom is an Americanism though for sure. It may have spread a bit, but it's an American phrase...same with the shootoffs - Uncle Tomohawk, Uncle Banana etc.
-

I am not proud to be white (i think its stupid to be proud about your skincolor, like its a huge achievement or something to have a certain skintone), but not ashamed of it either. Having said that, i wouldn't mind it that much to be another race.
-
That is very much the case. For a black to call a white guy names it's ok. For example having a movie "White men can't jump". How about if a white man made a movie "Black men can't spell" or something along those lines. It would be racists.
How about having the NAACP. We have the KKK and we are racists.
How about all black schools.
How about all black entertainment channels.
Whites are the minority.

The KKK is a terrorist group that burned and killed black and prevented them from voting. They wanted to keep them in "their places". Historically Black colleges and Universities were because black could not go to school with whites, but also a "package" deal to provide education for blacks. Also One learns different aspects of History (for instance many slaves that were sold in the US were muslims, or that Am slavery was different than Latin American Slavery), and if you are white you can get scholarships. The Valedictorian of Morehouse is white...
Black Channels, well white channels are that , they just don't call it white, they call it, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc. Majority of cable and non cable channels are white.
But let me ask you this. If someone came to threaten or kill your family would you shot them if you had the chance (guns in the house)? I would and I bet the majority of people on Getbig would. That's what should have happened to the KKK, they should have been shot a long time ago.

hey, to be honest I'd rather be black that white. here are the advantages:
A: Physical advantages
1. no need to tan - always "tanned"
2. on average much better muscular genetics that white (especially arms)
3. on average a bigger instrument ;)
B: Socioeconomic advantages:
1. black guy in a white merc looks better than a white guy in a black merc (honestly)
2. from what I see, there are more doors opening to blacks that to whites in civilized world today
3. increasingly more white gals are keen to hook up with successful black dudes (its like a new fad now)
4. beautiful black gals still wanna hook up with successful black dudes:)
the only disadvantage would be that i'd have to pretend i also like rap/hiphop/r&b, which I find totally revolting...but hey, a small price to pay i guess given all the advantages :)

The question I have about this whole thing is whether the 'Horns would have "made an example" of a starter...it's easy to throw a backup "under the bus" but what if Colt said it?
-

You can't just make a team rule not to use a word. I'm sure there was no such 'rule'.
-
The cool side of all this is that soon, us whites can start complaining about the powers that be and shit. Mark my words, this is the worst thing for blacks in the long-run. They've lost their niche as the ex-slaves being discriminated against by 'the man'. Now the mans black and we can start talking shit.

There are many blacks who are ashamed of their race, it's well covered in society.
Where do you think the term "house negro" comes from?
Self-hate within the black community is rampant.
Visit Greenbelt, MD and you'll see what I mean. ::)

It's merely in reply to dozens of people assuming I "want" to be white, which is indirectly insinuating there is something wrong with being black.
I don't assume whites "want" to be black - so why people assume I want to be god knows, so merely point that fact out. I personally don't get the obsession some have over race anyway, merely mention it when it's brought up.
Black people don't have to worry about getting a tan.
Haha, I do I am really really light skinned, have to tan before shows, pain in the ass >:(

CQ,
All bullshit aside. How long do you think people here could live in the carrib. where blacks are the majority and whites would experience racism for the first time? I'm not talking some stupid comment in the grocery store but on a daily basis. I lived there 16 months and a lot of white people just couldn't handle being skipped in line, ignored by Govt employees, accents getting instantly thicker, no one who'll listen to a complaint, customs and duty annoyances, etc...
The people I knew weren't racists, per se. They just had a hard time living in a place where everyone was black.
I had a little 'issue' down there. Can't really go into any detail, LOL! At any rate, it was politely explained that I shouldn't worry about it. The guy said something like 'I know you're from America and don't understand but this is a black country, we'll take care of you'. I didn't understand but he was right and there was no issue went away.

About 50% of our population is imported, so we actually aren't the majority per se, unlike many islands.
The tiny tax haven/offshore banking islands are very different from most Carib.
The free healthcare, free college, childcare etc - is only for locals. We never give citizenship nor the right to vote unless married. Permanent residence is only open to multimillionaries who will not seek work, and even then has restrictions.
All imports can feel like second class citizens regardless of race, and all locals get preferential treatment regardless of race. That is our divide... local vs. non - not race. A black American still will be paying for his health, while a white local will get all expenses paid trip to the US as they have a freakin backache.
Most of them are super cool people and are being paid buckets of tax free money so that tends to make them overlook anything
Plus we only import high level people, degree required, no criminal records - tax lawyers, investment bankers etc. Aspects like racism tend to not be as prevalent amongst those types so it really is not a biggie here. Most of them are really nice, I have many foriegn friends.
The occasional ass has an issue with living in a black governed place but we boot them out and that's the end of that.
-

can you imagine the uproar if whites started kicking blacks out of any country because they have issues staying in a white governed country ::)
cq sounds like you think racism is fine as long as its black on white. :'(
-
Racism is definitely more of an issue in this country than in many parts of Europe. When I visited England, everyone shared a similar culture, dress, speech patterns, etc. I saw people mixing even better than they do here in the northern US.
My guess is that slavery was stopped later in the US and the Jim Crow laws held us back. Then there is a subculture of some degree of anger, resentment and black pride in some black communities that is understandable but certainly not productive.
-
As far as genetics go, its more mixed IMO Black Americans often have better genetics for arm development and often have a small waist but not so predictible with other muscle groups.
Though the "member" generalization is partially true, certainly not always.
-
FP,
Racism is never right, LOL! My point is that most of the people here that really talk crap have never had to experience racism as a minority. That's one of the reasons I never get twisted over stupid things people say/write. It's not that I believe most people are racist or ignorant, just that they see things from a majority perspective. Sure there are some ignorant dumbasses out there but most people aren't actually bad. Like the whole Obama thing, a black president conflicts with the cultural identity of many Americans. Race being an issue doesn't necessarily make people racists. :)

Doc, what about the people that are of the minority and racist themselves? Shouldn't they show more empathy and not engage in those behaviors towards other minorities or even the majority?
Aside from guys like this who publicly show their racism, who on here has been a direct victim of racism? Who has engaged in racist behavior? I'm not trying to stir up trouble, I'm just curious.

i think its natural for a people who were enslaved, victimised and owned in every aspect to want revenge/retrebution - or at the very least harbour resentment towards the people who did that to them.
the problem occurs when they feel the need to have more than the oppressors to make up for past misdeeds. Thiscan lead to dangerous precedents where conflict is inevitable.
also i would like to think that the oppressed realise that freedom was given back, after people realised how wrong it was - it was not taken by force.

White people do not have a monopoly on racism, Cap. :)
Direct victim? I guess it would have to depend on what your definition of 'direct victim' is. By the strictest standards it would have to mean someone denied an opportunity and used race as an excuse but was also honest about the reason. I could probably say yes with no difficulty if the standard was lowered, LOL! Have I had people give me crap, make sweeping judgements and or assumptions based upon appearance? definitely yes! I've had people walk into the office, introduce themselves and politely ask to speak with Dr. Hammonds, LOL! I'm not saying that everyone that recognizes race is a racist, simply that people have preconceived notions about how society should be structured and that some of that perception is based upon being in the majority.
-
drkaje makes some good points.
Thats why affirmative action should be dismantled now. No racial preferencing is reasonable anymore. We must treat everyone equal. We gotta continue to get passed the whole thing. One positive about Obama is that it shattered the barrier for a black American to become the most powerful person in the land. Now, every kid can really believe they have the potential to become what they want.

Back to the original story....
How can they kick a player off the team for some racist joke about Obama? What are the legal grounds for this? Appears pretty shaky to me.

According to the Sports Inferno (link here), Burnette wrote: "all the hunters gather up, we have a #$%&er in the whitehouse."
Pretty dumb comment to make on the internet.

Of course its a stupid comment and if I heard that 'joke' I'd definitely raise an eyebrow with a glance letting the joke teller know that kind of crap isn't appreciated here. But, to kick someone off the team for that? How about what that idiot pro player said something to the effect that he was black so didn't care about the national anthem.

If we (al of us) suffered for every dumb or insensitive comment made here the internet would come to an end.
The kid's ignorant, bug fking deal! People need to lighten up and he's still entitled to have/express an opinion. If he tried to harm the president elect or recruit people to do bad it would be a different story.
I mean come on! Now no one can ever make a racist comment because there's going to be a black president?! One very important job in the world is changing hands, racism isn't ending and people haven't suddenly lost the right to have stupid opinions.

its on the coach, u have to understand texas fb is about 90% black at least, i wouldnt have let him go but keeping him could bite them in the ass in more than one way

Josh Howard. He's an idiot, but I doubt his contract could be terminated because of his dumb comment. On the other hand, this kid's scholarship agreement probably has a pretty broad provision that allows the school to terminate his scholarship. Even if it doesn't, the coach can kick him off the team for any conduct he considers detrimental to the team, program, etc.
Now, what would I have done? I really don't know. I don't know this kid's history. I don't know what kind of training or directives his players have received about public comments and behavior. It is the kind of kind of statement that warrants some kind of punishment, which could be as simple as a reprimand.
-
On a side note, i found out yesterday that a girl i know, knows this guy.

I really can't criticize what the coach did, because I don't have enough information, but I don't think should be a national story. They should have punished the kid in some fashion and then everyone should have gone on about their business.

Absolutely. You get to say whatever your team and school allows you to say when you're a member of a team.

The cool side of all this is that soon, us whites can start complaining about the powers that be and shit. Mark my words, this is the worst thing for blacks in the long-run. They've lost their niche as the ex-slaves being discriminated against by 'the man'. Now the mans black and we can start talking shit.
I'm willing to bet there's a former Texas backup player who would disagree with your comment. ;)

BINGO!!!
