Putnam is a perfect example of where bodybuilding is today.
-
coach at his best on stage against putnam at this level
who places higher?
-
I can't believe a guy with a back that bad actually has a chance at winning

It looks like he has somewhat narrow scapula. Its going to be tough for him to look really wide from the back. Coach on the other hand, should have competed- great back!
-
.
is this a back?
Makes Lee look like Dorian Yates from the back.

me back in '91. 5'9.5" 226lbs.
amazing detail
not too many bodybuilders have that sort of separation in the back, I can even see the separation between the teres major and minor :o
If you had 20lbs more muscle at that level of detail you would have become a professional, no?
-
What frog? Hazbin, you look good there. But are you in the process of falling down to your left? That would be bad.
-
:-X
thick as fucck shoulders and spinal erectors
I bet you can shoulder press and deadlift a tonne of weight

Freaking shredded :o

Thick as a cock
-
How come a guy like hazbin had so much detail and so much separation but a lot of the recent guys have "blobs" for muscle at around the same bodyfat?
What makes that difference? does it have to do with the more mass?

Insulin and loading on insulin.

that was a long time ago. i don't know what i coulda done to turn pro. i think one thing i did wrong was never competing at the nationals two years in a row. i think you have to be on the judges mind from the year before.
after 1991 i only competed every 2-5 years.
-

lol, no. i was told that the legs would look bigger if the knees were pointed outwards. on second thought maybe i was falling over! haha
-
Punam is another guy who`s waaaaay overated.
Hazbin kicks his ass easily!
-
Nope. Needs more width up top
-
Putnam's back is just flat out embarrasing. You couldn't win some state shows with that back. How he gets so much hype is beyond me.
And he has that marhsmallow conditioning to go along with that pathetic back.

Fixed.
-
Pootnam looks like a deformed dwarf - zero aesthetics - Ben will be rotating in his grave :'(
-
I just don't understand this guy's logic. Would you be proud to show up looking like hammered crap, the worst you've looked in years for a show, and accept a pro card just because the rest of the field looks like crap, too? He's WAY off. Embarassingly smooth and off.
After his loss last year, where he was closer to 3rd than first, the guy said he was going to come back the next year improved but stay in the same weight class. He was right at the cutoff for that class in weight. So let's get this straight: Your BF is around 2.5-3% for that show (his 2007 show) and you are right at the cutoff limit yet you planned on coming back this year IMPROVED? How so? You weren't going to be able to put any size on your non-existent back unless you put on weight. Period. Fear of moving up to the heavyweight class caused this guy to regress. When you enter into anything scared of competition/not being in yourself, well, who's the real winner?
Anyway, this guy's nickname should be "The Gift" if he gets his card. Screw Phil Heath. His "Gift" is of a different kind, though....
-
Rob (240) ur making some great nationals threads here (keep it up thx!)
Hazbin = looks wayyyy better (from the back at leasts) than Putnam
same with coach
-
No, it went down with the rest of him.
Too bad we can't say the same about his wife.....
-
.
Did he bring up his back?
short answer...NO
long answer....HELL NO
;)
and yes, Coach's back does look MUCH better
-
maybe Peter doesn't like deadlifts, rows, chins, hyperextensions, pulldowns, pullups, hammer strength rows, or pullovers?

there's a video clip of him training back...and it seems like he loves using machines. You know, the opposite of what has built great backs of the past ::)
Maybe he's on to something ::)

WTF, he has the weird Branch Warren post-lat tear thing going in the first pic with his shoulders nowhere near parallel in that pose. WTF happened?

::)

::)
you should show this tiny tit how to really train, musclecenter.
-
you should show this tiny tit how to really train, musclecenter.
Musclecenter would humiliate Putnam in the gym, Peter would give up faster than a Muslim on all you can eat ribs night.
-
:-X
thick.
-
Punam is another guy who`s waaaaay overated.
Hazbin kicks his ass easily!
highly agreed.
I couldnt understand his popularity from the biginning.
-
The LHW class this year was extremely dissapointing.
Putnam came in with the worse tanning in the whole show,
A fat ass,
The most pathetic back to have graced a flex cover
If he had nailed his conditioning he would have won easily due to everyone "missing it",
Solution:
Get away from the Venice scene, stop hanging out at Max Muscle Venice and training with Bob
-
Putnam's back is Gary Strydom approved!
-
Putnam has a hot wife and thats about it

There's some truth in this statement...

"i think one thing i did wrong was never competing at the nationals two years in a row. i think you have to be on the judges mind from the year before."
Haz, I tend to agree with you 100% on that statement and have said it many times to friends who were entering their initial pro qualifier.
I wonder if anyone has ever kept statistics on that "as yet unsubstantiated fact"?
Haz, you were in great shape in those shots you posted. Can you tell us the events you did enter and how you placed in each and those eventual pros you competed against? Did you ever feel that you were placed lower than you deserved? And did you complain publicly? And what made you decide to hang up the old posing trunks?
Thanks, Haz

Putnam knows his back is weak and he said that he will be really hitting hard in 09 to bring it to the next level...He has hired Gary Strydom as his back trainer and believes with his help, he will get to the promise land...
-

hey Stunt,
i did the Canadian nationals in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007. i never figured out the last week preparation, always looked better a week out. my body is pretty beat up, so i couldn't really train legs the last couple shows. everybody thinks they should place higher i think, but i was never good enough to win anyway. heres a pic of me last year with Ben Paskulka(sp?) he is pro now.

one thing that is opposite this theory is i remember as of 1980 nobody ever won the mr. America after their third attempt. it was usually a dark horse (not being racist) on his first attempt.
-
Haz, are your the competitor in the blue or in the black? I'm assuming you are on the right side of this photo because the other guy appears to be too young.
Haz, your statement ---- one thing that is opposite this theory is i remember as of 1980 nobody ever won the mr. America after their third attempt."... is 100% correct and something we all noticed back then and even earlier.
That same idea became known as the "Teufel Syndrome" and was often discussed when one or more friends were planning to compete at three or more attempts in the same contest. We talked about it frequently and came up with the following possible conclusion .......
Usually the same judges judge the same contest each year and if they notice someone on stage who had been there the previous year or two years, they tend to say to themselves .... "He hasn't improved too much since last year." Or, "He doesn't look as good as he did last year." and that judge judges that competitor based on his "feelings" rather than how the guys actually appears among his fellow competitors.
We had a saying... "You have to be a hell of a lot better than you were last year to do a little bit better this year!" And in most of our cases, that proved to be a valid statement.
Thanks, Haz. ALways great to communicate with someone on this board who knows what the hell they are talking about and refuses to throw a temper tantrum or make caustic remarks against the guys and gals who work so hard to be up there.

i'm on the right. no legs, havent trained them in years. i just compete now and then to give my liver a break from all the booze i drink when i don't train.
the legs used to be pretty good when i was a kid, but i didn't realize it so i busted my back trying to make them grow.
