Title: what does your family think about your bodybuilding?
Post by: ASJChaotic on November 22, 2008, 10:55:09 AM
well, mom and dad are really surprised that I can get my ass out of bed and to the gym
I'm such a lazy person, I see how that is a surprise
as far as food goes, they think I'm gonna have poisoning from eating so much tuna
mom doesn't understand why I don't eat her home cooked meals when I'm supposed to
when I eat a little less for dieting or whatever, they always notice, and point it out and ask me why
LOL

tell us how your family, deals with your bodybuilding
your spouse, girlfriend, even friends

My wife is ok with it. I get up early as fuck and get it over with. She isn't very supportve of all the $$ I spend on supplements. Plus, she worries about all the stuff I take.

Years ago when I was a kid livin at home and doin nothin but "bodybuilding" my Dad saw me gettin bigger and bigger and said, "son, just know that in our family we have back problems....they will catch up with you like they did me, your grandfather and your uncles."

Two years later I blew out my back.

I'm not a BBer.  I lift weights 4-5 times a week and I don't eat a lot of junk.  Other than that, it doesn't come up.  I'm in better shape that most 32-year olds I meet, and that's about it.

IMO, unless a guy bring it up constantly and can't stop talking about BBing to his friends, it's usually a non-issue.  Some people are in better shape than others, some eat differently than others.  When you see that Pud flexing his arms nonstop or using any excuse to pull up his shirt... well, you never wanna be that D-bag.

My first two years of training I was the typical idiot with poor form, but learned the correct way and that's when I got hurt...while using proper form.  Good form or bad form the back was gonna give.

I think my parents and family are just happy that I'm trying my best to live a healthy lifestyle.
I exercise regularly, eat good food, don't do drugs, prefer not to drink (maybe a beer every now and again) and want to look healthy, fit and strong.....I don't think anyone can really fault this.

I also don't go overboard, for instance if I'm visiting my Dad I'll eat whatever he's prepared for dinner or maybe for that weekend. Or if I go eat out I'll just have a nice steak or some fish with vegetables.
But the rest of the time I'm following my own diet.

And if I'm holiday for a few weeks, with family or friends....I'll just train really hard before that, then consider it as some good time to take time off and recover...and come back stronger.

That was definitely one of those "hindsight is 20/20" and "listen to your parents cause they've already been there" lessons I wish I had taken to heart.

Mum and dad think its stupid a waste of time and retarded and i am destroying my body, damaging my health, and making myself look stupid.

Sisters think i am huge and kinda like knowing they have a big, big brother. Will make fun of me and say im too big take up too much space always in the way jokingly. Wee sister Bronagh will comment when i get bigger she notices.

Both think i eat a ridiculous amount. Though i am not as obsessed or spending as much time at it anymore mum and dad dont like it at all and wish i would do something else.
we should all take up chess and make the family proud goudy  ;D

I dont drink or do drugs.

The only problems they have is me training and doinhg the door. Other than that i dont give them a lot of hassle

I don't either, never have had those weird "hi mom, I'm at the bar, I can't drive home, come pick me up"
or "at the police station, busted for crack"
or "hi dad, I'll fix the wall tomorrow, just let my car be parked there, sorry I was too drunk"

Most of them don't really show interest at all. They mostly admire my disclipline, dislike oiled BB'ers on stage, confuse BB'ing with fitness and that's about it.

BTW, in Afghanstan (no I'm not from there) BB'ing is the most popular sport. It's an honour to have a BB'er in the family.

Proper form BS, it's about learning what exercises to avoid as you age, and getting away from ego heavy weights. Either do them with less weight, find substitutes, etc.

I don't really talk to them about bb'ing now.

I can't because I can't find a zero carb isolate here. I know how keto works, have done it before...just sticking to low carb for now...

ok...perhaps you are more "carb sensitive" than others...?

I just try and keep it under 50g carbs a day. Seems ok for me.

True.

Theres a few carbs in your shakes, peanut butter, and from veggies and salad.

But for the most part, it isn't that hard to keep it under 50g a day.

I don't really talk about bodybuilding with anyone because it's pretty boring. My dad doesn't really care(which is fine), he never asks how the training's been going or anything. My mom thinks it's awesome though. She always asks "what are you training today?" or what I weigh now etc... my grandmother is the same way. It's pretty cool.

Once you switch back to "mass gaining" you will regain the muscle very quickly.

Im not a bb I used to b one back in the days.....just that I still  look like one.

Diecide..with the real health issues I have been going through over this past year (Sarcoidosis - autoimmune disease of my lungs and heart, and Thyroid Cancer)...do you seriously think I would put shit like that in my body?  That would be pretty stupid of me.  Not only would it probably effect all my medications that Ihave to take on a daily basis, but I also have to have my blood tested constantly for all my thyroid levels (my thyroid has been removed so I am on synthroid for the rest of my life).  And like Danielson said...I definitely like looking like a female and wouldn't do anything that would make me change like that.  Hell I'm depressed enough about having a puffy face from the prednisone (I've been on since March for the Sarcoidosis).  :-[
