Boys and girls I am close to 75 years old. I was a soldier in Korea and won the George Cross and Military Medal. My dear wife Elizabeth died in 1998. I have a son Lewis who I have not spoken to since 1990. My doctor told me last week that I probably have a month to live and then the cancer in my lungs, stomaque and throat will kill me.
I am willing to donate my entire estate to a good cause if you can come up with one and I can change my will in time. My estate is probably worth 3.5 million of your yankee dollars.
I feel really happy and really pissed at the same time right now guys. please cherish each day as it comes.
Jim

give it to me my friend!

Put me in your will, I want money.
-
If you really fought in korea, do you have pics to prove it? or "no camera" back in those days?
-
I'd donate one half of it to some animal protection organisation like RSPCA or something like that.
What about your son ? Any friends ? Family ? Give 'em the other half..
-
I would find people who need it, and donate it. Find families in need. It's the holidays, times are tough, and your $ could either go to some group who would throw it on the pile, or to some families - for whom it could make a ton of difference.
-
The Jake fund is a solid cause.
-
the getbig social institute would be a good one, if someone is broke or in trouble with the law, we pay out of it.

I don't need your money Jimmy!!!
For I am a Billionaire, I have 16 Yachts and 7 Bugatti Veyron's and Mansions across the globe, mine is a life of decadence, however I always make time to post here!
Thanks for the offer Old Timer ;)

Damn man,
If you speak the truth, then I'm sorry to hear of this :'(
As a fellow former military member of ten years, I would suggest doing something for your vets

Jimmy, can you post a recent pic of yourself? Maybe holding a sign so we know it's you (the poster). 8)
-
Why have you not talked to your son for such a long time? Does he have family? If so, they can use the money.
-
What about giving to your namesake? What about it Jimmy? I'll care for the other Jimmys of the world.

Give it all to me...
I'll blow it all in style: hunting for Bigfoot and chasing lost treasure... and I'm a fellow Celt.

PS- seriously though, make peace with your son.

This is so true. Jimmy, there are people EVERYWHERE to whom just a couple thousand dollars would mean survival and a road to recovery for themselves and thier families. Even giving 1 or 2% of your worth would be a huge sum for many, many people.
Good luck with your illness. I hope you make a recovery that baffles your docs.

Lol, and next thing you know is that you get emails from George W. telling you to send in 3000 bucks so you can get 3 million in reward.

Give Moosegay enough for anal reconstruction surgery.
maybe "moose" likes being loose for his husband, Danielson.

After my wife died I moved in with a 32 year old aerobics instructor called Karen. Lewis hated her on sight because he thought I had been giving her a plundering while still seeing his mom. Lewis is a funny guy and I swear he is still a virgin. To think that asshole will get his hands on my Lucre makes me spin in my grave.....
Please guys give me a charity to donate to...
If you're serious - and although it has already been mentioned - you can never go wrong donating to your local RSPCA shelter. Good people doing good things for animals who have no voice. :)
-
nothing pisses kids off more than their parents donating their inheritance to animals.

There should be a getbig Hall of Fame built.

im all for donating as much as possible to animals, its scandelous how they are being treaten in this world.
-
why?
Would you rather donate to a charity that aims to stop cruelty to animals?
Or cruelty to Children?
-
i dont see why children should be ahead of animals in this?
-
No, no, no we are getting off track. Getbig Hall of Fame. We just need to decide on a location.

Just make sure your priorities are straight. Posting on Getbig and outing gays is serious shit compared to making peace with your son.

Good post
It would be interesting to see the same people who'd rather donate to an animal charity be in poverty themselves, they take too much for granted.

-
i dont see why children should be ahead of animals in this?
Neither do I. There is a terrible, erroneous, belief in some human beings that they are something markedly different and superior to other animals. At its worst, it is an excuse and justification for extreme and abhorrent cruelty.
-
Jimmy, if your are being sincere and honest about a sizeable donation, I strongly recommend a donation DIRECT TO St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Check out their website at http://www.stjude.org/stjude/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f2bfab46cb118010VgnVCM1000000e2015acRCRD
You other GetBiggers might want to check it out too. Any little bit helps.
But please remember that there are many "Fund Risers" who solicit donations for various charities and it's perfectly legal to keep a percentage of those donations in order to keep their fund riser business in operation. So I do recommendation that donations be made direct to any charity of your choice, such as St Jude's.
Not for Profit Corporations are guided by a Federal Publication called 501.3.(C) if I recall correctly and you can find that on the net. Also it is wise to check the net for government guidelines for those who intend to make donations of any size to a charitable organization.
Best of luck to ya, Jimmy.
-
There is a terrible, erroneous, belief in some human beings that they are something markedly different and superior to other animals.
We ARE different and superior to other animals - not in all ways, not all of us and certainly not the worst of us, but still.
Are you saying you feel inferior to animals (at times) ?
-
The Human Fund. Make the check payable to George Costanza.
-
Are you saying you feel inferior to animals (at times)?
We're all animals. You already presuppose a distinction that you aren't justified in making.
-
We're all animals.
Not to me we are not. We are all organisms, but humans IMO shouldn't be categorised as animals. Plants are not animals and they are their own kingdom. Animals aren't primary producers, but they can move and hence have / are their own kingdom. Humans are a step above animals - not physically, but mentally. We have the faculty of thought that lets us think and shape the environment in ways that no other animal is even remotely capable of.
That puts us in a league of our own - we simply share the same biological traits that animals have, give or take depending on the context.
-

Hmm. No, humans are just another branch on the tree of life (sorry, that's awful!) than animals. I suppose, in my time, I have found more dignity in 'animals' than I do people that it has become my only charity. Speaking for those that can't, etc. Look, TG, I tell people to find/choose a charity (one, any one) and donate - providing it has to be one you strongly believe in and one in which you're willing to make a commitment - you can't go wrong. Simple. :)

Well that's a very common argument. Many people say the same thing - often the poorest and least well educated will argue it the most vehemently ( not saying that about you.. btw). The fact is that to me it is an extremely simplistic, primitive and arrogant point of view.
There is simply nothing to suggest we are anything other than a highly evolved, intelligent animal. All these other notions of being something wildly different from, and superior to, other sentient beings stem from religious nonsense about being God's chosen 'project' or a totally overblown trumpeting of our faculty for reasoning.
The human race really does need to be dethroned. This false assumption in our self-proclaimed superiority and 'uniqueness' is used to justify unspeakable cruelty. One can make an argument for humans being the most advanced/intelligent animal - albeit an extremely destructive one - but to claim that humans aren't animals..to me that's absurd and not a position I would relish trying to seriously justify.
-
Can't ask for more than that.
Word/Mot. ;D

If you had said 'organism' instead of animal, you'd have nailed it. My argument has / had no religious overtones cause I'm not affiliated to any religion. I'm saying that while we have in common all the major biological traits with animals (which are closer to us genetically compared to other kingdoms like Plantae or Fungi), we are also in a whole league by ourselves based on our mental capacity.
The most highly evolved animals don't come ANYWHERE near us, when it comes to being able to think, reason and act. Biologically, we are animals but in our case, that isn't all there is to it. We are actually integrating and blending with our latest technologies and evolving into something very interesting.

Hmmm. Take away ready access to say, running water, or some other component Kiwi, and you'll see how evolved we are. Humans never cease to surprise me regarding how 'animalistic' we can become under certain conditions - war, famine, disaster, etc. - and nicely skewer our worldly pretensions to stewardship. :-\

My dear Dr Chimps, I never said we are immortal, invincible super beings that are capable of sustaining ourselves without needing the basic biological necessities that are food, water and such.
If you read my post, you'll notice I say that biologically, we are animals but that's not all there is to us / it. And we are also far from having perfected our emotions, living conditions, culture, environment etc. But that doesn't mean that we aren't above animals.
I don't get it - no one is going to argue that an elephant is superior to a human being when it comes to strength. But people always protest and call it arrogant when someone says humans are superior to animals, which we are because intellectually we are.
-
The most highly evolved animals don't come ANYWHERE near us, when it comes to being able to think, reason and act.
I am not denying that we have an advanced faculty for reason that has allowed us to accomplish great - and terribly negative, destructive things - I just don't agree with this argument that we are in a 'league of our own' or something other than animals.
The fact we have been able to impose our environment on other animals still doesn't mean we are anything other than a highly evolved animal. It's really only your assertion that we are something 'other' than animals that I disagree with.
Again, even if we have the most advanced reasoning skills...I don't see why that means we are anything other than the animal with the most advanced reasoning skills? No justification for such an elevated view of ourselves. Even if we are so superior..I fail to see why it gives us the freedom within our personal morality to cause undue suffering and pain to other sentient beings.
-
.

Hang on Kiwi,
It's one thing to say we are superior to other animals and a totally different thing to say we aren't animals at all and something more special.
-

-
Even if we are so superior..I fail to see why it gives us the freedom within our personal morality to cause undue suffering and pain to other sentient beings.
Very true, but that's one very small part of a much bigger whole. For all the people that cause pain to animals for whatever reason, there are also the millions of those that adopt pets and treat them no different than a family member. The worst of us aren't and shouldn't be the indication of our level of worth as humans.
BTW, I just realised this is Jimmy's thread, so maybe we'll pick up this argument elsewhere - this issue pops up all the time in the usual cyclical fashion.
-

Enlist is no more to be. And I'm working on it, to answer Q no 2

Right! Abu Ghraib, etc. Exactly why I prefer the animals around me. I sometimes chide (tut-tut!) my church-going friends by telling them if they want to communicate with/see God, just to sit on a park bench for a stretch and watch the animals as they go on with their day. It's all there right in front of you - not secreted in some edifice. Academics call it immanence. :D

True. I wouldn't say we were arguing..perfectly reasonable debate in my view. We aren't a million miles apart; just disagree on the use of the word 'animal'.
As for Jimmy, if he really wants to spend his money he should buy Ron a mega servers. Been a lot of hanging on tight in your absence.

Thats utterly ridiculous
You wouldn't be saying that if it was your own daughter or close family who needed help
-
INtelligence is not a marker of superiority. Humans so called intelligence has cause so much suffering for humans (the atom bomb) and for all species one has to wonder if it is intelligence at all...I think what makes us superior is our ability for compassion and empathy for each other, even strangers and for animals...It is a biological mistake but one that truly makes us special and superior.
anyway this is JT's thread let him decide what charity to pick.

If this is serious i am very sorry for you.I could use some of that cash and put the rest to a good cause,as my stepfather has esophagial cancer and all other sorts of problems and my mother is having a very hard time paying the bills as his business is suffering greatly without him.My father is building a home for him and his wife and my 2 half siblings and is running out of money fast and he has copd with emphysema. My business is slowing down as well and i am a big hearted person who would donate most of that to cancer funds as i have a lot of friends and family who have died from cancer.I also have a daughter and i would like to have a little security towards her future, and my fiance and i are looking to get married but cant afford to.I am a very hardworking person but have fell upon hard times in the last few years and i would only use a few hundred thousand towards my family issues and the majority would go to the charitys. It would be nice to help my parents out.Any way i think i have said enough.I hope you enjoy your time left.take care.

Mr. Thompson,
I believe I have a charity that will use your funds appropriately. Its called the Lollipop House. It is an organization that helps violent sex offenders (note: this charity involves those who violate animals against their will; primarily house pets and livestock) become productive law abiding citizens. The Lollipop House was started by former heavyweight boxer C. Lang, once known for his intense anger, which stemmed from himself being a victim of a horrendous animal sex crime as a youth; the raping of his doberman by the neighbor hood drunk. By using rehabilitation techniques based primarily on The Viking methodology of self-controlled power these individuals can control their urges and use them to develop new outlets such as crocheting, kayaking, self-induced vomiting (bulimia), bodybuilding, powerlifting, etc....
Mr. Thompson even a small portion of your funds can help establish Lollipop Houses all across North America.
Good luck in all your future endeavors

Im sorry to hear about your health problems and your son. As to great causes, there's City of Hope. They do research and treatment of serious diseases, including cancer. Hello,
I recommend you look for a good research lab near you that is working on cancer treatment and give as much as you see fit. You will be directly helping everyone in the world who is currently(or will at some point) suffering from the same ailment you have.
Remember doctors are not always right.
Good luck,

Christians children charity or something. Buy your way into heaven. or something meaningful like a golden, diamond-covered casket, with a tombstone of Ben Weider getting sucked off by Shawn Ray.

I know it sounds far fetched that these individuals can be rehabilitated but the statistics speak for themselves: the Lollipop House has an 83% SUCESS rate!!
Society can not afford to abandon these misguided souls.

You could always pay off my student loans. ~20k. That seems like a good charity. ;)
If you're serious I'd give it to the Gates Foundation, they seem to be one of the few charities that actually do anything with their money.
-
Jimmy since your stricken with Cancer, i think the perfect organzation to leave everything to would be The Jimmy Fund-Dana Farber Cancer institute...(jimmyfund.org)...It seems so fitting...Its also the Boston Red Sox's #1 charity they give to...
And if you have an extra sofa change rolling around and you want to help out a lost soul who is trying to change his stripes, shoot me a PM ;)
-
Or you could go rent the movie Brewster Millions to get ideas on how you could have your son go on a wild goose chance in the hopes of getting some of your money... ;D

You should give the money to Dorian Yates as compensation for crushing his balls with a pair of pliers.

Jim
I'd donate to The Brights, in order to help the world get rid of organized, dogmatic religion:

jimmy, that a really kind offer. i can think of 2 things you could give money to.
1. Rangers F.C. They are desperate for money as Celtic dominate them off and on the park with, 3 titles in a row, on a great winning run of 11 games, still in the champions league, record profits every year. You could help rangers keep the wolves of receivership at bay.
2. The SNP. As a true Scotsman, I'm sure you share my dream of an independent Scotland. As you know there will be a referendum in 2012 to help us get full Independence. Your funds could go a long way in funding the SNP's educational advertisements regarding the benefits of full independence. Freedom once again shall be ours.

Not sure this adds up Jimmy... the 8 years... but whatever man. If you're on the level then I hope you had a good life and make the most of your remaining days.
1. Make peace with your son. He's your blood and he's going to spend a lot of time thinking about you long after you're dead. It's the right thing to do even if you can't find a selfish reason to do it. Tie up those loose ends as best you can so you haven't left a bunch of shit in your wake (wake...get it?!).
2. Throw your own funeral. No one else wants to plan that shit, it's a drag. Something zany, something traditional, whatever. Get it all planned and paid for, and obviously get all your other affairs in order.
3. Are you sure there isn't something you always wanted to do, whether it costs money or not, but you just never got around to it?
4. Bugger an Englishman. Doesn't matter which one. Most of them have it coming.
5. I like dogs. Cats not so much.

pose in peace.

I love it Panda!!!!!
Funny how being close to death makes one realise how silly football is. Of course if the Gers had a chance of league leadership my views may be different!!!!
Have a great life my celtic supporting Fenian Papest friend. ;)
Seriously son, look after yourself, Jim
Thank you Jimmy, it has been a pleasure getting to know you a little on here.
Take care, i'm sure you will leave this life as you lived it - with pride and dignity. 8)

Hello Tapeworm,
You picked up the point. Lewis thinks I have been banging Karen since before his mother died. This is not true. I got 55 pm's last night and most asked me to make peace with Lewis so I phoned him and we will meet next weekend. I feel like a massive weight has been lifted from my shoulders but I have decided to help the needy with at least part of my legacy. My short life is worth living again.
With best regards
Jim
Glad to hear it Jim.
-
I think that is wonderful Jimmy, and I bet your son feels a hell of a lot better.
-
I never got how Mooesejay was all right wing and at the same time gay...weird.
Homopublicanism is not in any way a new phenomenon.
Reactionary? Like law, order & 'mentoring' youths in thongs? Chances are you're homopublicandiassed.

Hi Jimmy.
We all harbour all sorts of theories about other people. Most of these theories are false. The trick in having a good life is to not possess too many false theories about those who matter to us. Always be prepared to accept that our notions are wrong and therefore we should be able to forgive others for apparent trespasses. Too many people believe false things about others and then react to those beliefs. Before dying it is always a good idea to discard as many false beliefs as possible. Especially those relating to our family, relatives and friends. Otherwise, we take our false beliefs to our graves.
Good luck with your son. Nothing should be more important to you.

Speaking as someone who didn't have a Father growing up(my Dad died when I was 7 months old) I have to say Jimmy that what you say about your flesh and blood is deplorableand you should be ashamed of yourself. Blood is thicker than water or Pussy my man.
I'm sorry for your illness and wish you the best but you should NEVER talk shit about your own son. that shows me your character right there.
As for your money.....I don't give a shit what you do with it. Give it to Karen who fucked up your relationship with your son.

Jimmy i hope all goes well with your son especially as xmas is coming up, i wish good luck with your illness and am sure you can prove the doctors wrong

In your situation, I would go on a massive drug bender.
Reconcile with the kid, sure. Once you finish that, move into the bunny ranch and have them install you a liquid viagra tap next to the bed. Then you can live the rest of your life cornholing dirty hookers.
If there's anything left when you die, leave the rest to the bunny ranch with specific instructions to use that money to pay for freebies to any Scots that come in the door.
If you're gonna go out, go out with a bang.

It would be noble to donate it to Habitat for Humanity. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I do believe they serve a noble cause.
They provide housing for people who need it but can't afford it. I'm a free-market advocate, but it's either this or the rest of the people pay for thier housing in taxes. In other words, everyone would benefit from this, not just a select few. Everyone in general, the economy in general, and especially those whose houses you ultimately get built, houses that wouldn't have gotten build had it not been for you. Look here:

There are a 1001 worthwhile charities for you to choose from. Whichever you choose, they will be grateful for your help. I hope you enjoy the time you have left.
-
if this is real then you should give 100% to any charity that will benefit greatly from the donation. Feed starving children, homeless, homeless vets, something that will help those that are much less fortunate than the majority.
