[ Q ] You wouldn't put Ronnie's injuries down to some kind of nerve impingement?
No, he had a muscle tear in both the triceps (one side) and in the lat muscles (same side) and that is very visible to me because I'm a f@cking expert on muscle tears. And what you would have noticed is the whole muscular balance and symmetry of his physique was kind of droopy.
Once you get a couple of injuries like that it just affects the way your body works when you are training. It doesn't work the same anymore. It's trying to overcompensate all of the time and you run the risk of sustaining injuries elsewhere, further along the chain.

Classic lol

Now Dorian's a doctor...lol... hysterical.
BTW Did Dorian say what his specialty is: Neurology, Sports Medicine, Surgeon etc

Dorian is giving some of the best interviews the sport has had in years. A very straight shooter, but also very intelligent and well reasoned. His comments on many current aspects of the sport are right on the money!
-
great perspective 8)
-
Dorian has a good argument on this matter.
-
dorian is a very knowledgable guy imo,he knows bodybuilding like micheal jordan knows basketball
-
maybe ronnie just didn't like training as hard as Dorian?
-
guys like arnold, yates, gaspari, platz and afew others worked out so hard that other pros would watch in awe,on the sneak tip ofcoarse ;)arnold used to train a bodypart, back for instance, then grab a fresh bodybuilder just walking in the gym and train back again with the fresh guy and i heard hed bury that guy after he just banged out a 2 hour workout.haney stopped traing with gaspari in the early 80,s cause haney said richie was possesed cause of his mind boggling intensity, lee said after a month of trainin with richie he was burned out and had colds, headackes, achy joints and the whole business.i know lee beat richie onstage but it sure wasnt cause he trained harder, lee had better genetics and unfortunatly this is a geneticlly gifted mans game, providing the geneticlly gifted guy or women is doing all the other things needed to be a champ imo

as if doctors are "experts".. ::)
-
as if doctors are "experts".. ::)
hahaha, very true. The majority of doctors know about as much about working out as bluto does owning.
-
Dorian is very credible about the muscle tear.

In Arnold's case it was the other way around, many top bb were done training on any particular day, and when Arnold walked in,Arnold would say "im gonna do a quick delts and arms workout wanna joinm me"? and they would say yes ,not telling Arnold that they allready finished working out.....
-
Saying youre an expert on muscle tears is like saying youre an expert on wrecking cars.

Exactly. Most bodybuilders would've answered yes if arnold would've asked for a blow job.
-
Btw, The more i hear Dorian talk about training, the more I admire Bill Pearl.
-
Dorian Yates 8)
-
Dorian trained harder than Ronnie
-
Jay and Dexter train smarter than everyone else.
-
Dorian is the man.
-
I think Dorian is probably right. I would also agree his is an expert based on experience.
-
I don't buy the "nerve pinching" thing... a pinched nerve will cause the entire muscle group to atrophy, not just a portion or a head of the muscle like in Ronnie's case...
-
I agree with Dorian.

he is not claiming to be a dr "samson".
he is just stating the obvious - as in he has tons of experience with it, he "gets it"...

muscle tears are generally the same way each time. a torn bicep is a torn bi, tri is a torn tri - etc etc..
no car wreck is the same
hope this helps
-
Not all muscle tears are the same, far from it. A muscle can tear lots of different ways with variable degrees of tendon vs muscle vs musculotendonous junction. Also, if you look at the tricep...it can tear many different ways, being that there are 3 heads that join together forming the common tendon. Your somewhat right with a distal bicep tear. There is only 1 distal tendon and if its completely torn, the repair is very standard.
Sometimes there can be nerve injury as well, so even after a repair, the muscle still doesn't respond as well as it used to.
Though Dorian isn't a doctor, he does know a lot about muscles, muscle tears and extreme training.
Ronnie's injury certainly could be nerve related coming from the spine...or it could be muscle or tendonous tears, hard to say without studies being done.
-
Dorian is just very straightforward and logical. Kinda like Mentzer without all the philosophy and idealism. Question for poster above. How would a nerve impingement affect just his lat and tricep, but not his delt, bicep, and trap?

"Torn" means something went WRONG.....
and to be an expert at that......well,
Hope u get the idea.

Yeah ,
"hey judge thanks to my hardcore training i look like shit and i have no biceps.. but i train harder than Ronnie Coleman",
can I have my sandow now"?
Very logical.

... and not only that, how can nerve impingement affect only his lower lat and outer tri...

Well it makes pretty good sense, if he has an impingement in the posterior cord, it could easily effect both the lat and the tricep. The posterior cord is a part of the brachial plexus which contains the thoracodorsal nerve and the radial nerve both of which have roots in the C5 thru C8 vertebrae and supply both the lat and the triceps.
So to answer your question. yes its possible for a nerve impingement to just atrophy the lat and the tri :)

Agreed, but it would be the T2 and T3 nerves that would have been pinched (probably as a result of a herniated disk, which Ronnie admitted to having and having surgery for). It is possible for this to result in the lat and tri being atrophied; it would also result in the Ronnie loosing the ability to flex these muscles as looked to be the case.

no it would be in the cervical vertebrae most notably the C5-C8, not in the thoracic. ;)

In part two of Dorians interview, Dorian also states: I'm a fucking expert at getting knocked out"...part two will soon be in the MMA section...
